It’s January 30th, 2024. You’ve been describing what my life has become this year unexpectedly. At first I was stunned and so sad. Now I’m coming slowly into my own. I discovered your channel a month ago and wept for the sense of hope you instilled in me. I love all the things you love, but have always been quite passive. I’m 72 and was married for just short of 51 years. One of your first videos I saw seemed to indicate I was destined to become one of your UA-cam friends. I have five loving cats and rooms full of fabric and intention. I had an old sofa of my mom’s reupholstered in Lime Green Velvet last September after repainting walls and giving away a lot of my old life. I only buy used furniture, clothes, etc. and my entire yard is a big garden. I play in the dirt all summer long. Thank you for being out “there” creating a home for me. I think I can Be in a world like yours. I admire your gentle way and kind heart. You give me hope. Judy Walsh, Stillwater, Minnesota
Wow! I keep seeing that more friends out there, like me, have just discovered this most wonderful, kind, exceptionally gifted woman & her little piece of heaven on earth❣️
October 12, 2024 and have been introduced this past 4-5 months and have been spending (finally) today on a binge watch from Vid1 moving forward. How I wish I lived down the road from you! I feel being near could heal my soul and broken will. Your voice is comforting and nurturing. ❤
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story! How dear! I live in what I call my cottage! It is a small home compared to most these days but I adore it and I have my sewing room in the back!
My favorite things are my kitties, nature, hearing you say hello UA-cam friends, animals, your video where you have a subject and just talk to us., of course quilting , needle point and cross stitch.
When I grow up(I’m 55) I want to live in my last homely house East of the sea!! Hopefully in North Carolina where I can quilt and read and garden and raise chickens!!❤️❤️😃
I’m 72 and I’m living in my last homely house, in Alabama, I’m sure! If i move from here it will probably be in with my son in San Francisco, who has now finished an apt in his basement level for me....eventually! I knit daily! I loved all of the Harry Potter books! I recently found you from watching Arne and Carlos! Now I’m a keen fan of both you and them!❤️❤️
Aren’t we blessed to have such wonderful UA-cam friends? A&C are truly inspiring, and I have watched them for a long time. Kate is a new friend - like you, introduced by A&S. the content is so wholesome, and so un-materialistic, which sits right with me! A big ‘hello friend’ from the Midlands, UK
Kate you chose the perfect name for your channel when I’m watching you I feel like a best friend, nurtured and welcome in your homely house. Thanks for sharing your lovely stories with us. I’m binge watching😃💕xx

Gosh, I thought the name was intriguing! Now you've told your story and read part of the Hobbit, I think I have to go back and read it again. It's been many, many years since I've read those books. Thanks for the reminder!
I’m playing catch up. Thank you for this video. You keep saying you want to keep them to 10 minutes. I could sit and listen to you all day, in fact at the moment you are talking me through my ironing. 😀 thank you 😊
Hi Kate from Victoria, Australia. Watching you wind the ball of wool takes me back to my younger self watching my Mum do the very same thing as one of us girls sat in front of her holding the skein on our arms moving leftbto right to make the winding easier. Such a lovely, gentle memory. Ta muchly, Lovely One. Blessings from Mim. P.S. Just a thought......We have just come out of lockdown, over 100 days, and the contrary thing is, that now I can go shopping, apart from food shopping, I really am not fussed. Must have something to do with having the choice. Take care.
I love it!!! My roots are in the UK, however I was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada. My dream is to someday move to the countryside there and spend my days doing all the things I love. You inspire me.❤❤❤
I’m reading some of the comments, and it was you I found first and then I check out Arne & Carlos. I am enjoying all the things you have your hand in, gardening, knitting, quilting, beekeeping, life loving. Thank you for your content. ♥️🧶 🪡 🧵🐝 🏡👩🌾🪴
Hello Kate. I love the name of your home. We say here, (US) Home Sweet Home. I asked my friends one time what they actually did to make home sweet.? No one had an answer. I work on it every day. funny.
It’s strange, some homes are just houses, then there are the houses that are true homes. My parents house was a happy place - you could feel it Welcome you as you entered.
I read The Hobbit for the first time when I was 10, and have ended up re-reading it and the Lord of the Rings trilogy every 5 years or so since then. I couldn’t get through the Silmarillion until last year (I’m 53 now) when I got the audiobook, but I love the world-building and the mythology and language that Tolkien created. I’ve lived in apartments all my life, but finally was able to buy a house 3 years ago. Turning it into what I want - which is very much along the lines of that description you read - has been quite a learning experience. Very much still in progress, and I hope to have many years here to work on it. Thank you for this channel, and the cozy atmosphere you’ve created. ❤️
Never “knew” one could roll a ball of yarn like you just did!!! Always put mine on the backs of two chairs facing each other...but then can`t do it in a comfy position like you! have come to you now from Arne and Carlos!
Please don’t keep your videos short. I love listening to you, you are the sort of person I can connect with . I enjoy your topics of conversation you are my little friend on my phone. I too was knitting and listening about your home and garden I absolutely love your imagination and energy that comes through. I wish you well with your You Tube channel and all your projects you have going on. I too was given The Hobbit by a very dear friend 🙂👍🪴🌸🌼🌻🌺🌳🌳
I love listening to you chat. You fill a place in my heart. Your home and your animals are all part of my dream. I have started that dream but still working on its development. Goodnight.

You are succeeding in creating a wonderful place to come spend a bit of time in peace. Thank you so much. I am inspired to do the same in my own spaces.
Amazingly beautiful description of the creation of your special home. The thought of being amidst your treasures created by your own hands,,,, brings one to tears,,,,,from joy! It’s a fairy tale in modern world! Rare, special, and divinely Blessed. You are a very clever lady! You have parlayed a way to have a garden created by many hands!very impressive! Blessings to you Kate, many all who gather at the homely house! 🕊🙏🕊🙏♥️♥️♥️
It is always lovely to listen to your stories, I love your way of living, your clothes, your quilts, and the ones of your mum. It's a welcome feeling. Have a nice day. 🥰
It's 5 years after you made this video. I just found you a couple of weeks ago and have been watching random videos. They are wonderful. First, I love England. My ancestry is primary from the UK on both sides. I am 72 years old and live in Missouri. You remind me of a first cousin of mine who was 31 years old they me and lived in Michigan. I spent a lot of time with her since I was about 18 months old. I was the youngest grandchild on my father's side which she was also from. My father was the youngest of 10. My paternal grandfather was 100 years older than I and I never met him. He was born in Kent and moved with his parents when he was 6. He spent most of his childhood in Pennsylvania and then he came to Hannibal in 1872. My grandmother was 98 years old and she was German whose parents came a few years before her birth. My mother's family go back to King Alfred and through the Plantagenet line. I grew up with wonderful vegetable and flower gardens. Sewing was natural art. I learn to crochet a bit. I quilt some. I stitch counted crossstitch and needlepoint primarily. You can never be bored. I read good variety. Less gardening because of the physical problems so your garden helpers were fascinating. Home canned goods are the best. When I visited my cousin in Michigan we spent a great deal of time doing all kinds of projects such as farmer's markets, cider mills, stitching projects, cooking, and painting. She is how I got interested as a child in porcelain painting and she was my first teacher. You remind me so much of her. And your creative home is warm and inviting which is how I always felt at my cousin's home. She has been gone for many years now but I have wonderful memories. There is nothing finer than being able to enjoy creating new things and doing a variety of crafts to be interesting. I feel I had a great gift with my parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins who were all engaged in art, crafts, music etc. So grateful I have found your channel and I have much to catch up on for this is 5 years after you made this video. Oh yes, we are cat people. I love your cats. They made our houses homes. Thanks from a cat lady.
O my goodness.... I stumbled across this channel and I absolutely love you, even after one episode!!!!!!!! I am going to binge watch for the next few days... You are like a new best friend and you do all the things that I like doing as well. From Rinatha - South African living in Canada
Thank you Arne and Carlos for directing us to this marvelous channel!! Kate, what a pleasure to watch your videos! I’m so happy that I have all your videos to catch up with. Your easy chats and welcoming manner, are so so enjoyable! Looking forward to many more from you. 🙏🏼
I love the story of why you call your home “The Last Homely House” when you hear the reason why and the description, I would imagine we all would name our homes the same! Thank you so much for sharing with us. 😷🤗🥰❤️
I love the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings also. But I do not remember the quote. It is a lovely quote, now I shall have to listen to the books (CD’s) again.
I love it, we are charged with creating the world we want to live in to the best of our abilities and seems you are doing a beautiful job of doing that.;
It’s a perfect name! A home is such a reflection of the person who lives inside. And yours is definitely that. Funny but I’ve never named my houses. I’m in my fifth and it’s the sweetest of all. 120 years old and solid as a rock! Small but roomy in its’ layout. Anyway…nice chat💕Cathy in Montana.
Hi, I am a new subscriber from Arne and Carlos and I am so happy to discover your channel. It is so restful and relaxing and I love it.. thank you, I will be watching them all
Hello! Another friend from Arne & Carlos! Aren’t they fun? From my experience, Kate’s videos should carry a warning, they’re addictive! I’ve watched so any, especially when I have trouble sleeping at night. Every one of her contributions if so full of wholesomeness, kindness, encouragement and a joy in sharing. What a very special lady!
I have been watching you for awhile now but just went back to view this video. I love your last homely house. Thank you for inviting me to join you and others on the long green couch. You are a joy!
I’m new to UA-cam I have only subscribed to three channels that are dear to me Arne and Carlos are also my new UA-cam friends I did meet you through them and grateful for their wonderful comments about you and your last homely house keep having fun and sharing
I’ll tell you what, Miss Kate, I love your channel. I love visiting” your cozy home and the cats are adorable. Knit on, my friend. That is exactly what I’m doing as I listen.
I've been coming to visit with you for the last year. This one came up from 3 years ago. I'm one of your visitors who loves to sit on the lime green sofa now and listen as I cross stitch. I hope you have a blessed Christmas. Keep well and thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
I was thrilled to run across this video today, 11/20/2022. I enjoyed listening to you. I will continue to watch your earlier videos while you're on respite. Be well and hope life is being good to you and yours.
Just found your channel absolutely marvellous, I too love Tolkien Harry Potter also Alan Garner and Susan Cooper too. Creati5 ia one of the joys in my life as I too live alone now. Listening to you is like sitting with a friend. Thank you.
Hi Kate, I am a new follower and am loving playing catch up with you...I love your channel, especially the quilting and cooking. This explanation of the name is wonderful. I too, love The Hobbit, Harry Potter etx. Not read Phillip Pullman yet but will put him on my list. Congratulations on your new baby granddaughter too😀 love and hugs Sue xx
Awwwwww that is such a sweet meaning to the name and how you have made it.....How delightful!!!! I'm new to your channel and I love your channel. What a great idea about the garden helpers!! love your chicken and your boating!!! Will check out your store....and more video
Lovey video. Bit of a time traveler moment as when this was shot, I wouldn't discover your channel until 4 years in the future 😂. Have worked backwards to this one and loved the all. Fabulous, real honest, warm and wonderfully simple.
I too am a Tolkien fan ( as well as Harry Potter etc).. i even have the Tolkien symbol as a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist, it is my way of showing my love of reading, The Hobbit was the first grown up type book i too read around the age of 11 or so :D
yes - it as the first book I read to myself - I haven't got the tattoo - but I'm not sure why - its exactly the sort of thing I'd do! ha ha!! the Deathly Hallows maybe? xxx
Having just discovered you (through your EPP video) at the beginning of 2021, I have been SO enjoying sitting with you with whatever you're working on, and whatever I'm working on here on our little farm in the foothills of the Pacific NW, and listening to you go on pleasantly about whatever is happening in your corner of the world (or teaching about some skill or another). After 2020, this introvert is a little more ready for the socialization of a spinning or quilting guild, but until it's safer, this'll do nicely. Thank you.
Love the chat. I was thinking you could do a chat whilst hand quilting. I love to hear stories such as your international students and your garden... Or about your rescue chick with no feathers... more please. 💝☀🌵
Hi, I just found you today and am so pleased. I love your videos and the fact that there are no rants and it's so calming, peaceful and homely. I can understand why you have so many followers! Karen in Reading x
I love the name of your channel and the reason behind it! I’ve never wound my yarn like that, what a cozy way to do it! Your channel showed up in my feed this morning and I’m glad it did!
Kate I agree totally with Ann Draycott. just new to your channel would love to have a chat back with my new friend... i watched you wind your ball of spun wool without help, im impressed. ive been spinning for 34 years and about 5 years ago I joined the Fibers and Fabrics group of very talented ladies in Townsville Australia. a beautiful elderly lady taught me to wind onto a toilet roll. Cut a slit in each end so the beginning and end of the yarn is secured. you can pull the toilet roll off and feed the yarn from the center of your ball. and just recently i had a light bulb moment that i could label the roll so i knew exactly the combination of yarn that i had spun. try it see what you think. thanks again for your chats..
Brilliant reason to name your house as you have, it's perfect 😊 and 10 minute videos are definitely NOT long enough 😂😂 could sit listening to you all day, especially with all the restrictions and loneliness this year, but maybe I'm just being greedy 😊 thanks Kate 💖
You're just Priceless! I also love Tolkien; all his works and his friend C.S. Louis. I abhor Duvets, so I still make my bed in layers. I'm really enjoying your channel; Thank you so much!
I love your home. It looks so cozy and welcoming . I would love to be sitting by you at this moment and have you teaching me how process the wool, dyeing, and drying. Most of learning to kniy from someone knows what they are doing , instead trying to knit from a book. I have taught myself to make the basic stitch. But I drool over the pictures of beautiful sweaters and socks and the beautiful stitches you can do wiith the yarn. I can knit basic and make a granny square. Purling is my demon . I have a hard time remembering when I need to switch from a knit stitch to a purl stitch . I have not even attempted to make the cables. Keep posting you are so interesting snf fun.
An absolutely perfect name for you & your home. I feel so much comfort, warmth and goodness listening to your chats 💚 I was introduced to The Hobbit in grade 4 when my teacher read it to us. I was was glued to her every word. That Christmas my mom bought me an oversized intricately illustrated edition that I’ve treasured to this day. My next love was The Lord of the Rings that I’ve read countless times. It means home to me in every sense of the word. From the beautiful poetry to each of the characters that I’ve come to know & love. That story is ingrained in who I am as I can see in you too. A true to life Last Homely House 🏡
Looks like I am in good company. Here along with a handful of other people who just discovered your channel. Thank you for sharing. I have watched a few of your videos and you are feeling like a long lost friend found :) Tina
Thank you SO much for being who you are. One feels safe listening to you, nothing can happen when you are around. I have more faith in you than in a vaccination! YOU ARE AWESOME!
I’ve just read you message, and hope that you’ve come safely through your difficulties. Like you, I so enjoy Kate’s company, and the way she speaks from her heart. Take care.
Two years ago we did a two week holiday for our 35 th anniversary. We had a lovely time staying in Local homes via Airbnb. We wanted to “live like a local” while seeing London, the Cotswalds, Wales, Scotland, Hadrian’s Wall, York and the areas around Dover. I’m betting you would be a very successful host in their program.
I love J.R.R. Tolkien! Also a favorite, I read twice. Was so excited about the movie but disappointed in the first "cartoony" one. But then! They made the wonderful ones, yessss my precious! Lovely quote, and as I'm back into my counted cross stitch at 65, must plan a chart of that! Thank you Kate! What a brilliant plan. I've been on my own the last almost 11 years. And it took me a while to rethink what direction I wanted to go. I wish I had known about the student/work exchange!

I first encountered the Hobbit in 6th grade (1967) when our teacher read us a chapter after lunch every day. Thanks for reminding me about this quote!

Hi, from S. Carolina in America! I’m rereading all the Harry Potters for the 3rd time! I ❤️ them‼️✝️🧡🪡🧵✂️💙📚
I love Tolkien also, I’ve read them several times the first time when I was 15. Tolkien was a genius.
I’m feeling low right now and your wonderful videos bring me warmth and comfort. Thank you for living and sharing your beautiful life 💗
I do hope, that despite these last months, you’ve come through your bad times. I do feel for you. Kate is so grounded, and a wonderful tonic!
Im working my way through your videos ! Im loving all the chats and learning interesting things ! ❤
Lovey video. Bit of a time traveler moment as when this was shot, I wouldn't discover your channel until 4 years in the future 😂. Have worked backwards to this one and loved the all. Fabulous, real honest, warm and wonderfully simple.
LOVE IT. im watching from beginning to end
Just found your channel and i'm so delighted
Just delightful.
Thankyou
I too am a Tolkien fan ( as well as Harry Potter etc).. i even have the Tolkien symbol as a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist, it is my way of showing my love of reading, The Hobbit was the first grown up type book i too read around the age of 11 or so :D
yes - it as the first book I read to myself - I haven't got the tattoo - but I'm not sure why - its exactly the sort of thing I'd do! ha ha!! the Deathly Hallows maybe? xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse ooh that would be an interesting tattoo
i am loving selecting a video and watching while i sew. you bring a calm i crave. than you for sharing
I have just found this channel thanks to Arne and Carlos. You have been such a difference in my life. Thank you
I love to watch your channel. Thank you so much.
Someone else who loves both Tolkien's world and Pullman's world! So glad to "meet" you.
Trying to catch up on lastHomely House East of the Sea. Very very interesting. Thank you Kate 😘
Arne and Carlos sent me to your Chanel. Now I’m a subscriber.
Lovely colourful wool
Brilliant reason to name your house as you have, it's perfect 😊 and 10 minute videos are definitely NOT long enough 😂😂 could sit listening to you all day, especially with all the restrictions and loneliness this year, but maybe I'm just being greedy 😊 thanks Kate 💖
My new favorite quote (and name of cabin or tree house? "In the wild area where the hens live."
you are the best friend ,i have been looking for you all my life and i,m 65 years old.i also love the hobbit i just found your channel.
Thanks for sharing Kate! 💓
Thank you SO much for being who you are. One feels safe listening to you, nothing can happen when you are around. I have more faith in you than in a vaccination! YOU ARE AWESOME!
This video was great! I love to knit and sew, also. You sponsor your own yarn! I am very impressed.
I love your podcast and am enjoying watching past episodes. I have had a hard couple of years and your friendly, cheerful demeanor is a tonic 🙂
I have thought about it - I think the house would have to be a great deal tidier than it is! xxx sounds like you had a terrific holiday! xxx
