We cremated dad last Friday 🥹 For 5 years I travelled to London 2 days a week to take care of him. Often staying a week here and there. I miss him so much. An Islington boy was dad. Now we are in the process of sorting out our childhood home. The pain is real 😢

Beautiful story! My Mom and Dad married at 18 and 19 in the 1930's and were married 63 years and my Dad passed away a week later. The last words my Father said to me was, "I love your Mom more today than the day I married her, I need you to tell me you'll take care of her." What a legacy to come from a loving relationship. My parents had 8 children and I was the last one. Watching your videos bring back my life to me that I lived as a child and young girl.

What a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing. I’m watching this in 2024. I know it’s been a while but I am sorry for your loss. My husband and I were Pen Pals too. We wrote letters in the late 80’s. No cell phones or email at that time either. We wrote for a year and a half before we ever met in person. We just celebrated our 34th wedding Anniversary 9 days ago.

Just seeing this in 2024. It brought to mind my mother’s final days and how those long-told stories suddenly were filled with greater understanding and love. ❤ A long life well lived holds its own arc of grace. Something we don’t see until the end when we begin to weave it into a new set of stories for the next generation to repeat from their hearts someday.

I found you recently on youtube and love watching your sewing and gardening ones. Although I am not a gardener, I am a crafter and quilter. This morning I started back from your very first video and have just finished watching the one “Remembering my Mum”. It has touched my heart especially because my hubby and I have the same sort of “love story” on how we met. It was during the Viet Nam era, a friend and co-worker was writing to several servicemen. She would send them “care” packages and give them the scoop on local news back then in the 1960’s. She kept trying to entice me to write to the newspaper (or whatever it was called at the time over there). Finally after several months, I submitted my name and address and I heard from 20-some of which I corresponded with most of them. My husband wasn’t much of a writer but I loved to write letters and most got pretty long ones. He, though quite the opposite of your Dad’s thinking, asked if he could meet me when he came home on leave as he new the area I lived since his grandmother lived in the same town as me. There are quite a few more coincidences in our lives that we discovered later, but he told me much later he has 7 other girls, some he new from his school years to visit also, but he didn’t get a chance to visit another after we met in person. We celebrated our 53’d this last August. So your mum and dad’s story is very close to my heart! thanks for sharing all you do. I am loving your current videos and looking back at your earlier ones.

My mum passed away two weeks after yours did. 2017. As gently as she lived. She was beautiful inside and on the outside as well. She sewed and embroidered beautifully. Smocks and pretty dresses and the borders of some of her sarees. She sang. No...she performed for my brother and I. We thought it was normal for all mums to sing like that. She threw beautiful parties. Baked delicious buttery cakes and even pizza. She was fun, loving, thoughtful and had many friends. Even the local garbage collector would visit her. The gardener would too. She fed them all hot sweet milky tea and an egg with buttered bread. "they need the energy", she used to say. She spoke 6 languages including Burmese and Japanese. I miss her but am glad i was blessed with her presence for do long. You're quite a lady. You bring out my better side. Xoxo

I'm watching this 6 years later. My grandparents were married 67 years and 4 days when my grandma died just a month after your mom. My grandma knew that she was going to marry my grandpa the first time they met. They were roller skating and my grandma spotted my grandpa and told her friend that she was going to marry him. She was 17 and he was 18. Just over a year later, they were married. My grandparents had 8 kids with my mom being #5 of 8. My grandpa is now 92, and struggling with his loss of independence due to late onset dementia.

Hi Kate. It is September 15, 2024, my younger sister Michelle’s birthday. As always, I watch your videos after my breakfast. (I’m watching from the beginning). This is a sad day for me because Michelle passed away January 21 of this year and I am trying to figure out how to celebrate Michelle at this first ever event after she passed (she was 63). Listening to your story about your parents was uplifting and a great love story. I confess I still cried and am so sorry for your loss (belated). Near the end you said Don’t be sad; it was a good life. It made me perk up and realize that Michelle, too, had a good life and I know she would not want us (her 2 kids and 5 siblings) be sad today. So we shall tell stories of Michelle always laughing, tending to her garden (she was a Master Gardener), and watching Hallmark movies. Thank you for your beautiful story of your parents meeting. So beautiful!

Kate - I have watched this video several years after you sat down to share such a lovely story. I am a palliative district nurse and have always been so privileged to be witness to the depth of love and caring that couples and families share. When people ask me why I do this work I often tell them it is because we, as nurses, get to see the very best of people at the depth of the most challenging of times. As a daughter I have also lost my parents and continue to miss them to this day. Thank you for sharing such a heart felt moment and a lovely snapshot of your parents.
    well done.....

Lovely story. My parents also knew each other since childhood. Daddy died from Alzheimer’s in 2017 he died in my arms, Ii told him it was ok to go and I promised to take care of mom. He then gave his last breath and passed away. I now only take care of my mom and she misses him daily. She is 82 now.

I am sorry for your loss. I read somewhere that the greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother. My parents were young during the great depression. Married in 47. Dad served in WWII and mom was a "Rosie the riveter" at Republic Avation in Evansville, Indiana. They were married 44 years. Mom was widowed for 23 years and passed at age 90. Aren't we lucky to have had wonderful loving parents.

My father managed a skating rink in the mid 50's. He also played the organ. My mother was in her early 20's and she ordered some skates. She went in to pick them up. The person said you have to go to Ernie. She asked where he was, and the man said the one playing the organ. She went over to him explained about picking up her skates. He said he fell in love with her at first site. He also told himself, I'm going to marry her. Well, she's waiting for him to stop playing. He didn't want her to leave, so he kept playing for a while longer. Then he stopped and got her order. I'm not sure how soon after that they had their first date. But they dated for a year. He asked her to marry him. They would have a date. It took him 5 times to get her to the alter. She kept backing out, but he didn't give up. He passed away in 2008. My mother is still living. My sister and I celebrate their anniversary every year, and we go to the cementary. They would have been married 64 years. I was the first child and I came along 14 months later.

I loved the story of how your parents met and married. My Dad died at 92 and I brought my Mom down to my house, she was 90. She lived with us in a little suite we fixed up for her until she was just shy of 97. Dad died on the night of their 69th anniversary. Dad served in England and France during the war. For some reason I decided to backtrack today and start watching some of your first videos. I'm sat at home with covid finally, and have some time on my hands. This is a lovely and peaceful way to spend it. As I was watching your videos I noticed the dates and realized that it was getting close to the time my mom passed away in early December of 2017, so I was curious to see what you had posted around that same time. Imagine my surprise as this sweet and poignant video began, posted only two days after her passing. As you might guess I listened with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. I have often felt that we are kindred spirits - I always feel so at ease and relaxed while listening to you, and am left feeling quite connected to you as this video ends. As I'm sure you must know, you were a blessing to your mom in those last days. I will think of your family every year going forward, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing your world with our world, my faraway friend ❤️

A very lovely story about your Mum and Dad. I am sorry for her passing but glad they had 73 years together. I lost my mom not long after yours on Jan. 24, 2018 and she was 92 as well and I am 63 as well as you. Thank you again for sharing your story of their love, I am listening on Valentines Day
