I designed and produced these when I was Creative Director at National Screen in London in the mid-80s. The rotating logo was a very early example of 4K scanning to 35mm, and the rest of the sequence was rostrum shoots put together with it as a film optical. I mixed the track from the (German) master specially for cinema reproduction. Admittedly of its time, the sequence relies on the timeless (for the 80s) adage of "if in doubt, flare it out...".

I have copies of these from a now demolished ABC in Exeter on 35mm and also the Derann Super 8 release. Do you happen to know what the music was you mixed for these Chris?

They look fantastic, Mr. Wood. Would you please tell us more about them, like how long they were in use?

These look absolutely stunning now just as they probably did then. Was everything here besides the spinning emblem backlit animation?

What makes this one interesting is because of the 80’s like lighting and music.

I have finally tracked down one of the music tracks used here - called Push & Pull composed by Wolfgang Kafer and performed by Rhodos

Yeah, would have been. Same designs on the ABC MINORS club badges. These badges can still be found, and are becoming collectable!

Thanks! I designed and produced these when I was Creative Director at National Screen in London.... and I thought that the music was so important, it was necessary to bring the master 32-track tapes over from Germany to mix them adequately for cinema presentation. A lot of people thought I was bonkers but I reckon it was worth it...

Some of these adverts were shown in Australian cinemas- what an entertaining cruise down memory lane!

+Michelle Stone thank you for uploading these. Despite being quite a prolific cinema as I was growing up I don't remember these which is a shame as they are fab.

These designs are found on old ABC MINORS club badges. ( A Saturday morning kids film club) Now long gone, but the badges can still be found, and are becoming collectors items. 😊.

These must have been from after the 1996 buyout of MGM/Cannon Cinemas. I would be very surprised if they are from the mid-80s.

Hello these promos date from around 1985/6 when Thorn EMI were planning to sell Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment and the old ABC triangle was going to be revived. The management bought the company in 1986 but a week or so later the main backer, Alan Bond sold his share to Cannon. I remember them when they first appeared in the ABC Liverpool.

Thanks, Tony. That's really interesting and for the mid 80s, they are really before their time. By the way, did they revive and use these after the management buyout in 1996 or did they make new ones?

@@SuperTed19021 Hello.. these designs date from as early as the 1940s! They can be found on old ABC MINORS club badges. That was a Saturday morning kids film club. Earlyest designs are Art Deco in style. All these designs/ logos belong to ABC., unless copy right has changed. The club badges are now very collectable!!

    • @melcomepay6668

Some date back to the mid 1940s and are Art Deco period in style! Some changes to design made in the 1950s and 1960s. But the inverted triangle remained.

The later ABC logo from the 90s was on a star field background when I went to see Jungle2Jungle.
