This explore was a fun one, going to a movie theater has such a nostalgic feeling. Make sure to stay til the end to see the awesome projectors left behind ! Also, When's the last time you went to the movies? and what was the film?
Dead Silence back in 2007. I remember I didn't like direction that horror films were going at the time which is one of the reasons why I've stopped going to the theaters.
Hi Dark Explorations! The last time I went to a movie theater was either 2004 or 03. There was a widow I worked with at the x.she had every Wend off if I was off we would go to this huge mall in south Florida. We shop eat & then watch a movie.i now live East TN & I no longer work because I'm on disability due to my illness.i want to say the movie we saw we didn't want to but it was the only chose we had was I think the name was boogie man with the guy from Seventh HEAVEN . I remember in the 1980s in my birth state of Vermont there was still drive in theater.my brother would take my sister & me.i remember watching Rambo & Crocodile Dundee. My 1st ever movie in a theater was the movie with the black man singing blue bird on my shoulder. I'm no longer into going into a crowd even before the covid.people are nasty & rude. I walk with a cane & people would push me. I prefer going for rides & exploring new places .as a child I grew up on a dairy farm & my dad would make time to go for rides.we would sometimes pick up my grandfather & go. If we asked where were going he would tell us where the car takes us.sometimes we would find ourselves in NH in some place with nothing but fields & 1 weird place to eat.my dad loved spending time with us & making memories. afterwards before going home( always we had to be home by 4 to take care/milk the cows) we would get ice cream.thank u for helping me remember the good x's. I hope u have a great day as well & stay safe 🙂😊🏚📽🎞🎬
I know i was just about to say surprised they werent stripped down, those signs are vintage by now. Unique and original items like these are no longer made unless probably commissioned or something.
Not sure! Stadium seating 1990-2010+ (Lounge seating started after 2015). Many popcorn blockbuster movies in 1990-2005 with James Cameron Terminator 2 to Titanic or Batman last 3 or all 4 of 4, Forest Gump, etc (like he mentioned in video where George Lucas' Revenge Of The Sith was summer 2005 Star Wars final Prequels show)!
I feel like people need to buy these properties and restore them in a way and salvage as much history as they can. That would be dope. Open them up again.
@Merraine there was a bank in Pasadena (Texas) that was like a landmark for Pasadena. It was a massive building and had beautiful architecture and an incredible interior, a piece of history for us and it’s been abandoned for years and years due to a health concern I forgot what exactly it was I think they used a material to build it that was found out to cause cancer. But anyway many many people wanted it restored because it was definitly doable but ultimately about 2 years ago it was demolished.
That would be awesome to do that, before the place deteriorates too much further! Problem is that thanks to the lockdowns, people have gotten so used to just streaming movies and watching them at home. So who knows if there will ever be as much need for these multiplex cinemas. Tragic but true, at least somewhat.
I would totally go to a restored vintage '90s movie theater like this, it would be cool if they had at least one room dedicated to playing movies from that time period while obviously having the rest playing the usual modern new releases.
But before that "there's a single light coming from the projection room, we're gonna have to walk up there" Yes we're going to HAVE to check out something potentially sketchy... this is why white people get fucked up in horror movies so much lmao

You keep saying "gross" yet that place looks pretty damn clean for having been abandoned for a while. . A piece of popped corn and 3 gummy worms is not "gross".
I agree. I've worked at a theater and this theater being abandoned for 13 years is cleaner than after 1 showing of Avengers at 7pm on a Saturday night.
It wasn't. I know where this is. It closed in March because of covid and the operator just went in and ripped the equipment out a few weeks ago and ended the lease.
And then once he noticed you were there, he walked up to you and said, I feel I have had a hair caught between my eyes and my glasses. I couldn’t get rid of it through the whole movie, I have been picking at it the whole day. As he is now face to face with you you look closer and realize it was no hair, it was a tick stuck to his eyeball! Enjoy the rest of the show!
This is sad. Being a little kid walking into the movie theater was so special. All of the lights, popcorn, and movie posters. Just an unforgettable experience from my childhood.
Its been closed about a year now. Also in the same lot there are open stores and a taco bell. So its not as empty as it looks there. Cops are always driving around too.

Greenburgh Multiplex Theater, Elmsford NY, closed in 2019. For some reason, that tour was really fun, kind of sad and a little spooky. Also, the theater opened in 1999. So, sadly, it only lasted 20 years.
Yes, thank you for the info, was also wondering what it was called & where it was at. Now-a-days, a 20 year run for a such a business is not too surprising, particularly with movie theaters closing left & right.
I love what you guys do, man.. you show off these places without all the clickbait and trap music and exaggeration, it’s just pure raw exploration and appreciation of these old abandoned places
The one thing I love about abandoned exploring is the quietness. Nothing is as real as a place that was once loud, now completely eerily silent. I started this years ago with the intentions of keeping it real and raw. I'm glad I could reach so many homes and entertain. Always more coming guys 🖤
I used to work as a projectionist, the reason they don’t have little rooms for the projectors would be because movies start within 5 mins of each other and it was very manual before digital projection so you would literally be running from one projector to the next manually starting movies or rewinding movies which has ended! I’ve also used the Christie projector model too! Brings back memories!!

I know streaming services have been booming like crazy in the past few years, especially during this COVID shit, but we should never let movie theaters die. Watching a movie on a small TV screen at home is nothing compared to seeing it on the big screen for the first time. Movie theaters are an experience, and I really, REALLY hope they start getting popular again.
Also they found a blood smite going upstairs where private meetings can happy and rich criminals do own beautiful legal everyday business like my beautiful favorite store Walgreens for example. Blood doesn’t just get there and if the place was to remain nice but there’s obviously random broken shit then stuff obviously happens. Blood looks dry but fresh. Also what’s up there that could cut so deeply or what happened to have blood on the wall 🩸 and for illegal business reasons nothing would be brought and left.

So this cinema is in Elmsford, NY?? It is a National Amusements/Redstone Cinema. That special red and blue patterned schell carpet was in most National Amusement/Redstone Cinemas. I would suspect it was custom made just for them as one identity (chain) has their own special carpet. By the way Sumner Redstone just died a month ago. He was 97..
I work as the after hours maintenance guy at a theater built back in the mid 80’s. The problem isn’t so much that it doesn’t get cleaned. Movie theaters are a low margin business and they can be pretty stingy with hours and wages. I only get four hours a night to clean and set up the entire place for the next day all by myself so you really have to rush, and if there’s something broken you have to fix then you’re in an even bigger hurry. Add to that all the people who are really nasty and throw and spill stuff all over the place but also sometimes do insane things like smear human waste on the walls or mirrors in the restrooms and you get an idea of what a challenge it can be. It’s pretty demoralizing trying to accomplish as much as you can in a large area like that in such a short amount of time. I have an assistant that works with me on weekends and you wouldn’t believe the number of them that just quit on me and walk out in the first hour. As far as when theaters are going to reopen, your guess is as good as mine. I’ve been laid off since 19 March and the main reason besides the pandemic that we haven’t reopened is that there is nothing to show. The few new movies that are out there either keep getting their release dates pushed back or the studios just throw up their hands and put them online to stream. At this point I’m not sure we’ll ever reopen again if we don’t do it by this fall.
Can 100% confirm people loved smearing poop on the walls in the restrooms. No idea why this happened *often* at my theater lol kids puking a ton (1 gallon of slurpie/soda + a gallon of popcorn in a stomach the size of a softball = vomit city) was also extremely common
Satoshi9801 Eh, it is what it is. I’m retired and do this job for a little extra money. I don’t mind working hard and I enjoy routine, plus it’s one of the few jobs where I can work alone without anyone bothering me and it’s quiet. Manager is pretty good to me as well, so that doesn’t suck.

Theatres took a big hit with COVID. The Regal near me has been closed for months. Though I don't know if I'd go back since it also had cloth seats. Ugh. They always smelled musty.
The title and description are false, the theater was built in the late 90s and it didn’t closed down in 2006, it closed down in 2019. The Theater is called “Greenburgh Multiplex Cinemas Elmsford NY” *Update: This dude literally changed his description from 2006 to 2019. I guess he didn’t want nobody to notice.*
I would assume there is security and that the building is still looked after. I own several buildings like that and I keep security, power, heating and maintenance at them. And I would never allow a homeless swarm to gather there.
In my area, Rochester NY there was this theater called Cine 8 that shut down in 1998. For a long time it just sat there to rot. You could even see these promotion stickers for Mulan pealing off the front windows. I so...wish I had explored it before it got demolished.
This was the closest theater to my house. Had so many memories here. Just insane to see it abandoned. It closed in 2019, but still had that retro feel.
I was born in ‘85. This definitely brings back memories!! That color scheme alone takes me back!! What I wouldn’t give to go back to that time period again!!!
I went to this movie theatre a lot during the late 90's when it was new, through the 2000's. A few more theatres were built in the area after this one was built, making it seem outdated quite quickly. It was built around the late 90's, but was abandoned only a couple of years ago, around 2018 - not 2006 like the description says. That's why it looks rather clean (for an abandoned building). The town it's in recently approved plans to demolish and build a supermarket in it's place, which probably explains why the blueprints are there.
Ngl, I would be tempted to snag one of the silver screens for myself because they cost quite a bit and I imagine they would be throwing them away anyway.
@@ElderDoge i would of came around with a truck later and grabbed all those speakers from all the theater rooms and srll them, maybe keep some in my basement for movie night
This theater was demolished in January 2021. A new Shop Rite is now being built on the land. This was the Greenburgh Multiplex Cinemas. It opened in 1999 and closed on May 30th 2019. FUN FACT there was another Multiplex Cinemas about 2 miles down the road from this one which was demolished in 2016. It was the same size as Greenburgh with 10 theaters but a lot older. Very odd having two massive theaters on the same road. Both theaters had the same owner. Hard the believe there both gone now
Yeah I had placed this as VERY late 90s or early 00s, thanks for confirming. It was the stadium seating that gave it away, they didn't start doing that until the late 90s.
Yep I was thinking the exact same when I saw this. I mean damn the 90's wasn't that long ago 😂 Now if he was exploring a theater from the 60's or 70's that would be something

kristine elizabeth It’s still in business! It’s apart of the Regal chain of theaters. That company has no interest whatsoever in investing their profits into upgrading their older theaters sadly. So they’re left looking like this one, only still operating. Old equipment, outdated & uncontrollable seats... the whole 9 yards. Lol. The projectors will be the only upgrade you’ll find in the older cinemas.

Movie theatres are hard to repurpose. They have those sunken floors that need tons of concrete to fill. Wires to be rerouted, carpets to pull up, and new flooring to put down. Used to be a projectionist. It looks like not all the projectors are there. Seems like they sold the few that they could to other theaters and left the ones that needed work. They wouldn't be worth anything now since most theaters have all digital projectors but from the looks of the place, they went under far before the mass switch over to digital in the late 2000s so they definitely could've made some money from their ones in decent shape. Also I noticed their film pans are gone which are big metal pans that would sit next to the projectors and distribute/collect the film as it went through the projector. At the very least those could've been sold for scrap.
Heh you thought I was paying for that. Popcorn hits different different though that's the only thing I'll buy and a drink every once in a while. Candy? You know my pockets and oversized coat filled with skittles, starbursts, and sweet tarts

this comment needs to go to the top so everyone knows how misleading his videos are. That's why the Power was on because he filmed shortly after it closed down in 2019.
That would explain why there were still projectors in the upper hall with lenses intact. Those lenses are worth THOUSANDS. Back in the early 00's I was about to go into a lease to restore a theater from the late 80's that closed in 2000. Landlord took me up to the projection hall to "impress" me with all the projectors still in place. I walked up to each one and said "Well, these are nice, but they're worthless without the lenses." I declined to pick up the lease. Turned out the former owner helped himself to the lenses when he walked out on the lease.
I used to be a manager at a movie theatre not too different from this one. It had 9 screens and one main lobby/concession area. This brings so much nostalgia back for me. And yes projection 'rooms' are actually just big long hallways, generally. This makes it a lot easier for a projectionist to work and monitor each screen. The main office is where the managers would monitor staff/the lobby through the cameras, count money and open/close out tills. Our theatre had two big safes. We had to balance the $14,000 cash safe every night before leaving. It couldn't be off by even a cent, we had to make sure it was exactly $14,000. On busy nights you'll do lifts from tills so you'll take their cash and leave their floats (about $200) so that they aren't holding onto too much cash. It was a very bustling type of work. There's coin and paper money counters, similar to what banks use. Movie theatres, especially 90s and early 00s still went through a ton of cash so handling a lot of it was part of manager and supervisor jobs. My theatre also used head sets to communicate. So a manager and a supervisor would have one, multiple concession staff would have one, a projectionist would have one. Any time something was needed or something went wrong: You'd hear it on the ear piece. The theatre you walked into that had lights, where you said it's how it is right before showing: those are actually the cleaning lights. House lights/Tivoli lights (The little ones along the floor to guide you during the movie) are what they use for pre-show for people to be seated, and after the show. The concession area will forever be greasy, doesn't matter how often they mop. I had shoes that I called my butter shoes because they forever were greasy. And a pair of dress pants that were also my butter pants. (I often helped in concession when it was busy) The projectors being left is crazy because they look like they're digital so they would be expensive. Although looks like they had swapped from film maybe recently before closing because i see some of the plate stands still there. The theatre I worked at only had 2 digital projectors and otherwise was still using film when I was working there. That was a piece of history that I feel really nostalgic for. There no other type of panic you feel when a plate stops spinning properly. We once had to have a projectionist sit there and manually spin the plate to allow the film continue playing for the rest of the movie. He was a good kid!! I told him we could cancel the film and he said he would just do it. I've never been big on going to the movies (Though I do miss it now because of Covid restrictions) but I loved working at one. The behind the scenes was really fun. I can still remember all the smells. This was such a cool video to stumble onto. Thanks for sharing! It's sad to see it left abandoned and vandalized. Hopefully someone can pick it back up and bring new life into it. I love movie theatres, I hope they never die out.
I love the production logos (Paramount, Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros, etc) on the walls. That's neat! Now THAT'S how a movie theater lobby should look like.
The projectors definitely should have been taken or auctioned by the company. Those are worth a *ton*. That window you looked it had the piping for it in the ceiling (many made so much heat that they are cooled from outside on the roof). Worked at one for 10 years and the old non digital projectors made so much heat it was insane. Can 100% confirm that was butter/oil on that floor and that NEVER comes off. We mopped, bleached, de-greased that every night and it never leaves that tile. Literally fuses with the tile for eternity. You basically just slid when you worked back there like you were on ice. Insane seeing the exact same popcorn popper my theater had still there. This makes me equal parts nostalgic and sad knowing Covid will probably kill the last theaters.

As a former motion picture projectionist, I will clue you in on a few things. . . The projectors you saw upstairs in the PROJECTION BOOTH were left behind as they were 35mm film systems. The motion picture world has migrated to digital now. The whole movie is now shipped on a hard drive (same as your computer uses) where as a 35mm film would weigh between 200-300 pounds. What you saw upstairs that said CHRISTIE were just the lamp houses (light sources). There were a couple of projectors. Those would have ran about $35,000 per screen to buy the lamp house, projector, lens turret, and lenses. The golden lens you saw was called an anamorphic lens (cinemascope) and compresses the image so a wider picture can be placed in a regular 35 mm film frame. Basically a wider picture. The theatre left all sorts of salvageable that were worth literally tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars behind. The seats, the popcorn machine (32 ounce was about 2-3,000 dollars each, Ice machines, not to mention the neon studio trademarks on the high walls. Those alone were probably $500 to $1,000 or more EACH to purchase. The safe(s) and counting machine in the office . . . All in all a major waste, but in reading the comments, it was clear, there were several problems. Overbearing AC units, Poor seating and worse, Piss poor management and staff that sounds like they were to "busy" to help customers. . That alone is a good reason for people to not bother coming back. All in all one monumental waste of money and effort. Generally a good video, but that abandoned popcorn and gummy bears were not "chill'in" the were rotting. . The lights and some power were left on for security purposes. . .And you couldn't turn the auditorium lights back on as they were controlled by an automation system. . It would have had to cycled through to turn the lights back on unless you found the override switch. . One last thing. Roof hatches are usually alarmed. . don't go on the roof.

Actually it didn't exactly "double as a security room". Those monitors are connected to cameras but that's because that's clearly the cash/count room. I worked at a theater for a long time with this kinda setup. So at night after closing and you count all the cash you're constantly looking at those screens because you never want to get caught off guard. The "security" room as you put it would have been located in one of those corridors and it would usually be the GM's office where he/she can watch the whole theater. And if it was a more upscale theater with private security then the security team would have their own little room/office. My theater just hired off duty cops to stand around, ushers would kick people out, and the GM would watch for suspicious activity. So if it was something minor like maybe a bunch of kids sneaking in or being too loud or maybe some teens getting a little too hot and heavy then they'd send the ushers via radio. And if it was something more serious like a fight or something crazy then they'd radio the cops.
I was head of security at a really large theater. We had our own office, and a fairly decent sized security team, augmented by local police on the weekends. it was a hell of a job.
@Stephanie LoganOh piece of cake. We have a random group of ragtag, rogue characters led my an ex mercenary we call for those type of jobs. There's a special phone in the GM's office that can only be accessed once the GM and assistant GM turn the special key at the same time. It's also measured by pressure so it has to be exact. Once said keys are turned, a red switch pops out from under the GM's desk. He later has to flip that switch which in turn makes the emergency telephone come out of the floor. I doubt coronavirus will take out theaters 🎥 . Eventually a cure or inoculations will come out & be given to the masses. Eventually things will go back in time. People in the 50s put bomb shelters in their backyard and that was the norm.
Another thing destroyed by the Internet. More job's going and a lot more. Each shopping mall that close and place like this. No body thinks about who out of work next time they download or buy something of the Internet.

I have worked at AMC for a while. The irony is, the projection room in this abandoned building is clean and pristine, whereas the projection room where I worked was cluttered, with grimy floors and a filthy break room. I would bend over backwards with fellow bussers to clean it up. Apart from messes, I hope the theater industry soon recovers from the harsh realities of a disease outbreak.
I hope they do but realistically if Mulan does well on Disney plus, that will really hurt theatres because everyone else will do VOD. Studios can't afford to sit on those movies forever though.

The fear can end when the threat has ended. That hasn’t happened yet so fear is pretty important. Once we have a vaccine (which is looking promising tbh), then we can “live our lives”. If you’re young and healthy, staying safe isn’t for your benefit - it’s to keep everyone else disease free. The elderly/those more at risk aren’t the ones spreading the disease - it’s us. Don’t worry, this will all be over soon. The sooner we all wear masks and social distance, the sooner it’ll be over. It’s as simple as that

Once she had to hold the phone up for an old man (as he was too weak to hold it himself) while the family facetimed him to say their last goodbyes. They weren't allowed to come into the hospital room. Thankfully the death toll has been steadily declining here in the UK (everyone here wears masks on public transport and in shops etc). When's the last time you went to the movies? and what was the film?
End of 2019. Doctor Sleep.
Mid 2019. Shazam

I used to work as a projectionist, the reason they don’t have little rooms for the projectors would be because movies start within 5 mins of each other and it was very manual before digital projection so you would literally be running from one projector to the next manually starting movies or rewinding movies which has ended!
Russell Hltn speakers are all along the walls of the theater rooms. Yeah didn’t see the front stage speakers in the video. Agreed those projectors are now vintage but so cool and still very expensive to just be sitting there!
The ice maker machine is pretty expensive too.
As a fat kid I just think about all the over priced snacks id be buying in there

@@HaniJIsmail , the title is correct in saying this is an abandoned 1990's movie theater.
No wonder it closed down, they failed to update it!
(I often helped in concession when it was busy)
The projectors being left is crazy because they look like they're digital so they would be expensive.
This place is so creepy...Imagine at night. I would be scared of people coming in.
I love the production logos (Paramount, Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros, etc) on the walls. That's neat! Now THAT'S how a movie theater lobby should look like.
Those look like neon tubes, would probably look amazing. Pity that they probably got smashed when the building was demolished...
Imagine, you’re done watching a movie in this movie theater. And you walk out and it’s late at night, imagine that
I'm 45, so I had the best of both the 80's and 90's....

In Malaysian theater, we don't have cops or security guards.
I was head of security at a really large theater. We had our own office, and a fairly decent sized security team, augmented by local police on the weekends. it was a hell of a job.
@Stephanie Logan 😂
You are absolutely right all the way .
It's all a bit complicated and procedures change yearly but that's how it was last time I worked. If all else fails then..... Smoke em' if you got em' and pray to God?

@@srbnsn but a bomb or a meteor would not wipe out every building of earth. Now a blackhole would’ve been some interesting ending but very unlikely tho 🤔
@@fotografosinistro You have not a clue what bombs could be made in the future or what size asteroids could rip earth to shreds. The possibilities of instantaneous, even universe altering events could happen are infinite and unpredictable.
The whole time you were looking for the stairway, I kept thinking... look at the blueprints. lol 😂. Thanks for the video. 😁

HOLY! This was a threatre I went to all the time! There’s a combo kfc/Taco Bell to the left and we’d always go there after the movies. A new theatre opened closer though so we started going there. It’s so strange seeing a place I’ve been to in this state...
As soon as movie theaters open I’ll be there with bells and whistles. This fear stuff has to end. Great video my man.
What I've seen isn't fear-- it's straight up paranoia. People need to grow a pair and go back to their normal lives,
You said it!
Young and healthy. Just live your life. It’s not a big deal for god sake.
It’s as simple as that
@@jamie.goodson it's literally a cold, it doesn't need a vaccine, it's not a disease, cancer is a disease, the fear is absolutely ridiculous and I play no part in it
@@beckynik-nik721 My housemate is a covid nurse here in London, working in the ICU (intensive care unit). On occasion she comes back home in tears having cared for so many people who have lost their lives to the virus.
I know you're scared and this is obviously a hard time for everyone, and it's easier for us to just think of covid as a simple cold. But unfortunately we have to face reality. As long as you wear masks and social distance then you've got absolutely nothing to worry about, you'll be fine :)
*sees popcorn kernel on floor*: ew that's gross movie theaters are so dirty
*practically touches blood smear on wall*: blood smear!!
White, purple, torqouise. Yup 90’s color scheme alright lol
Reminds me of old taco bell!
Haha i had ski jacket those colors early 90s in college
Erik S yeah I had a sweater when I was a kid the torqouise with purple collars on the neck and sleeves it was god awful lol
My toddler in The Sims 4 has a turquoise, teal, and purple room with white furniture and pink and purple lava lamps. She’ll get an indigo GameCube and matching computer when she’s older.
Yep, my inner 90’s and 2000’s kid is showing 😊
This was the movie theater I used to go to as a kid, a lot of memories there and the arcade they had and a huge candy wall that was in the middle of that open space. It is in westchester new york and it’s sad to see that place be so run down, I remember watching star wars and harry potter movies there :,)
Everyone is taking about how nostalgic this makes them feel. Makes me feel so old that I remember when movie theaters didn't have stadium seating and had curtains that would rise before the trailers/movie would start. Nice video though. I hope to return to the theater once this virus is shut down. There's just something about seeing a movie on the big screen with an audience. (Of course one with out people on their cellphones. )
Yuup... some movies are just meant to be seen or experianced in a huge presentation and atmosphere setting while being shared with others you know and don't know alike! 🤤😢
We are unfortunately moving towards a way more isolated lifestyle as humans. I agree , movies should be displaced with a huge crowd as everything in the room experiences the same emotions. I love theaters but the way things are right now, I really cant see myself going back
@@DarkExploration If this is our new life forever. I will probably never have a child. What's the point if there childhood would be very shitty with no school, no friends, no social life, being on the computer 24/7.Whats the point.....
@@lkjhb1 I agree with you. Humans are social beings and every ounce of that is being taken from us. Its reverse evolution. I cant even fathom how life will be a century from now. I'd rather take away technology from humans, than to advance into a all electronic world. This planet isn't meant to be inhabited the way we are . Earth is too good for us humans and we take it for granted clearly. I could talk all day about it. But I'll sum it up there. thanks for coming to my Ted talk😂
The projectors are there but they took and probably auctioned off the platters and audio racks and also the mini projector for the preshow. My dad worked at a theater like this. It was fun sitting in the booth watching the movies. The audio racks had a small speaker you could switch on to hear the sound in the booth.
I could probably thread that Christie even though it's been 20 years. Ah - the memories.
I’ve had dreams that take place in this theater
