Glad you guys decided to do this. Watching the video before, it was indeed painful to see them eat it in a sub-optimal environment, and I'm not even Korean!
it was worse then sub optimal it was their store. there store ant anywhere near china, Korea, or Japan town. their not even in the same district let alone burrow. that's old takeout chicken their getting. these are master chiefs, give them it fresh. not an hour or so old.
I went into that video having loved and tried many fried chicken joints all over the US and a Korean spot in Chicago being my favorite never considered that run of the mill Korean chicken existed.
@@bloopblop5045 I think you got confused reading that. BBQ chicken is a pretty darn good Korean chain, well known in Korea. Point is they didn't have it fresh in the first video.
24:12 I love how he describes he can taste where it is from. There is a certain art of cooking with spice that compliments their flavors in different ways.
I LOVE that they gave Korean Fried Chicken the chance it deserves!! And love that these chefs show how much they honestly enjoyed it and not just tried to belittle it since it's not what they are familiar with ❤
I really enjoy these episodes! I don't know it's fascinating to see people who have a passion for their food explain it to others who have never had their food. It makes me smile because it's like bridging together two things that are similar and different. And I get to learn a lot.
Guys I love that you are doing these kind of videos, appreciating similarities in each culture is such an appreciation and shows great respect, thank you
Very high praise coming from them! Charles' restaurant is easily in the top 3 of all fried chicken in NYC. So nice to see this beautiful bridging of cultural differences and similarities.
6:30 That's a fascinating observation Southern Fried Chicken is about the sides to add on to the experience. Korean Fried Chicken is about the sauces. Huh, that never registered for me.
I like the soy garlic one best, but I also like the original of course. There’s one outlet in Hawaii so I was lucky to try these chicken!! In Hawaii we have so many cultures that a restaurant local style kind will have fried chicken, Korean kalbi, Japanese foods, Portuguese foods, Hawaiian foods and you can pick 2 or 3 choices for one “plate lunch” I hope you take these chefs to different Korean restaurants that serve other foods!! And other way around!! Would be so much fun!!
this was an amazing video! so many channels just go straight into the eating, but i learned something for the first time abou the history and how to make it...and im korean! great, great vid 😊
Korean fried chicken is just a whole different level. I love the crunchiness and the sauces!! Still love me some homemade southern fried chicken tho!!! But this cultural exchange is one of the best ever!
Not sure if you guys mentioned this in the video but I think it's important to know black American soldiers taught Koreans how to cook fried chicken during the korean war. American style frying. It's important to know the history.
no they didn't, koreans had a fried chicken dish called "kanggpoongi" since the 18th century, which is what the modern day korean chicken is based off, and if you think its important to know history, its a fact that "modern american style" fried chicken is from scottish immigrants who taught black southerners.
This is how you avoid dumb things like cultural appropriation. You share and enjoy. It doesn't matter who came up with what first. What matters is how you use it and how others enjoy. Excellent video, great guys, looking forward for future vids.
The reason why it doesn't matter to you, is because black folks are centered. If it was any other group of people, you would make sure they were properly acknowledged. But when it comes black folks it's not a big deal. I truly hate this planet.
2 things i think that can really bring a tear to my eyes are music and food. Its funny to think that if we remove 'vision' from the equation and focus on the other 2 senses we have - its all brings us as one. Keep up the good work my dude. amazing video as always. :)
As a Korean, I approve now because of you taking them to eat it fresh. This stuff is best in Korea though. If they actually want real Korean fried chicken then tell them go to Korea. Never forget the other classic dishes, although a lot of them are spicy. But there are many non spicy dishes for every spicy dishes. 치맥 comes from the two words which are 치킨 for chicken and 맥주 for beer.
@@travis1271 there are many options for some fried chicken. Although, they taste essentially the same. Rule of thumb is never to get them for takeout. Although puradak does market themselves as a better fried chicken chain, but to me all of them taste about the same.
That Korean fried chicken place, BBQ CHICKEN, their secret sauce is so fire..! I crave it sometimes. I bought some for my friends... LOL AND they got their families addicted to it too... LOL!
Korean Fried chicken just came out of nowhere. When I first had it. I was WOW. The South has some real competition. The problem. Nashville Spice or Buffalo Sauce is kind of the top. And nothing against Chinese Fried Chicken, but Koreans do a Handle With Care method. Chinese are quick style on the go and due to culture. They like Pop Corn chicken a lot more then full thighs and drums.

Its great when two different culture chefs learn from each other, makes them great world of sharing cooking tips that they might use in the end.

Love these videos man, food bringing every culture together is so wholesome
Take the Korean fried chicken chef over to try Charles’s chicken now. Got to keep the ball rolling
They have to
Yup. They have to do it now!
Thank you for this new and improved video. Koreans take a lot of pride in their food just like these two chefs. Food is love.
The sharing of cultures can best happen when meals are shared. The fresh Korean fried chicken made a HUGE difference in how it came across.

Might be location dependent but I've had the soy garlic and it's hella salty

The bald chef wanted to eat so bad! I love that
