I’m making a wood sign for outside. I painted the sign with Rustoleum 2x ultra cover paint & primer. Would you recommend HTV or permanent vinyl? I don’t know which will hold up best outside. Also, should I use the polycrylic sealer? And if so, when? After paint before vinyl or after paint & vinyl. This is my first outdoor sign & it’s a gift, so I want to make sure the vinyl doesn’t peel off after a month. Thank you!
This is exactly what I wanted to know too (almost word for word 😄) & got quite hopeful as to what the answer would be but then noticed there was no reply as yet 😯
Yes you can use polycrylic to seal 24 hours after you've painted your wooden blank. And apply your permanent vinyl 24 hours after you applied the polycrylic.
@@Craftyjan Thank you for that, that's really helpful. I didn't mean to sound rude about there being no reply, I was just really happy to see someone else had the same question as I did. Thanks again 🤗
Great video. I have a wooden growth chart that I need to put vinyl on. I haven’t sealed the wood as I need to be able write the kids names on as they grow. Which vinyl would you recommend please
My wood is an old cabinet that we want to label. I will try permanent and hopes it sticks I guess. No way of coating the whole cabinet. What about sanding it a little to help adhere?
What are the challenges between using a heat-press and a regular iron? Is it temperature settings that makes it more difficult, or something else? I have a smaller iron about the size of the mini-press you use in this video that would work well for the wood sign I'd like to put vinyl on.
Yes, you can use a household iron with Cricut Iron-On Vinyl. You can find step by step instructions here: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009378254-Everyday-Iron-On-Instructions#:~:text=Note%3A%20If%20using%20a%20household,up%2C%20onto%20the%20preheated%20material.
HI was wondering if you can help me? I tried using HTV on a wood sign but when I removed the backing it left little yellow marks on the wood, any idea why this would happen? Thank You!!
Interesting idea. The only thing I politely mention out of care and safety precautions relates to paint fumes once they're heated. This isn't a good idea, and this is why I will never put a painted sign in my laser engraver. Heat and paint release toxic fumes - chemistry 101. I see so many young influencers who've described adverse lung issues after years of creating these creating gorgeous projects. Maybe post a disclaimer to let your audience know. I think you're very creative and talented, regardless. God bless.
This is THE video I was looking for. Thank you 🥰
You’re welcome 😊 Glad you found it helpful!

could you add another to show how to use Infusible Ink sheets
Thank you for this video! So helpful. I couldn’t figure out why people used HTV vs Permanent.
Glad it was helpful!
Are you able to mix the two on one wood? Can you layer the 2?

I used Cricut brand vinyl in the video :)
Great content. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoy it!
Can you do layers of iron on vinyl? Thank you for your video!!
Yes you can!

Is it OK to add another coat of polyurethane after the project is completed? If not, how about Modge Podge?

Hi Abbi... I want to know... Is it okay to have your wood sealed for Iron on vinyl? Thank you so much. Like always ur videos are very helpful.
Yes, you can seal the wood for iron-on vinyl before or after adding the HTV. I find sealing before best.
Is there any sealers that you need to worry about melting? Ie modge podge
I did not experience this in my testing but if you are concerned go with the polycrylic. :)

Can you please send me a few images and share the process you used so I can better assist you?
How long should you wait to add the vinyl after sealing?
24 hours is best!
Do you have to seal the wood if it’s going to be for indoors?
Sealing the wood will make it easier to keep clean and dust free but you don't have to. Just make sure it is not in direct sunlight :)
Im thinking it might be better to seal for a restroom application due to moisture but not sure, Thank You for replying!!@@abbikirstencollections

Yes, proper ventilation is so important. Thank you for your care for others!
