It is a Hofner, just not a German Hofner. It a CT (Contemporary) series, Korean made. Other than being right-handed, the first thing I noticed was the black knobs instead of teacups.

Auctions can take a long time and then you have to pay 30% to the auction house. Pawning it is quick cash money
@@earthxmeltdown 30% is absolutely a lie on what auction houses take. Any of the big ticket items like this, the auction only would take single digits worth of collateral.

Vicious Veronica I lost it when I noticed that it wasn't even a Hofner, it's a Johnson with a Hofner stock. I know because I own a Johnson Violin Bass.
The only guitar players dominant hand I know is Jimi Hendrix, and that is because he was famous for playing the guitar upside down. Why in the hell would I know that Paul is left handed, or why would anyone besides some crazy obsessed fan for that matter.
the first bases paul played were all right handed. the reason why he used the violin shaped base is because it wouldnt look as silly when he played it upside down. it wasnt until later when he first began playing a left handed hofner.

True & also i have a hofner violin bass myself and i could tell right away that the bass she brought was either a rogue, oscar schmidt or epiphone viola bass copy & those copies were not around when Lennon was alive.
And the fact that he still owns his Beatles bass from the 60s. Legend has it that he still has the "set list" sellotaped to the guitar from the Rooftop concert in London in 1969.

Really! Why the hell didn't they ask the guy? And FYI, it wasn't one of the first. It was THE first and it was the ONLY Beatles contract that the group ever had. Brian Epstein only drew up that one contract and it actually expired AFTER he died. After that the Beatles never signed another contract together. John, George and Ringo signed a contract with Allan Klein BUT Paul didn't which add to the animosity between him and the other three. They eventually saw the sense in Pauls refusal because Klein was something of a crook.

Cheetah Chenko it's not like any pawn shop. You fill out an application and you're going on a show. This creates an enormous amount of exposure. He also had a authenticated on TV, and that's his prof it's real when he takes it somewhere else to sell. It's not a bad strategy.
Cheetah Chenko The producers find people who have really amazing things they're willing to sell and they get them on the show to show it off, thus giving the person and their product exposure and gives the TV show some high end credit. You could go into this with absolutely no intention to sell, it's all to give the item (and the show) public attention

That bass isn't even a German made Höfner. The Tailpiece isn't original, the pegheads are wrong - it's a 500$ Bass out of an Asian factory. I would be surprised if it even said Höfner on the Headstock.

Still if they take let say 20%, he is left with 480 000, so 130 000 extra. some people dont ear that much in 5 years of working their asses off.
Usually, auction houses add a percentage for the buyer to pay. I got a vintage Omega watch for about $500 for my graduation, ended up costing $650.
The house also adds a percentage for the seller to pay as well. So the guy with the Beatles contract got north of $500,000+ which is 150,000+ more then a pawn shop would offer.
My question is, where the hell did the guy get it ?

There is an interview where Paul said that he had two of these guitars. He has one and one got stolen. I am glad to see that the appraiser is knowledgeable about this.
Sold in 2015 for almost $600,000...
Sold for 600k, if it was at an auction they take between 20-30%, so there goes 120-180k, the guy pocketed 420-480k. Depending on when he came into the shop he could have made more with the 350k then he did by waiting to sell it (if he had a few years that is) and Rick straight up told him he would be looking to sell it for 500k. i dont think 350k was too bad a price considering it wasnt going to have a massive commision + it was cash in hand on that day

The first Beatle contract would have had Pete Best's name on it not Richard Starkey.
Barry Miles (Paul's biographer) has them signing the 1st contract Jan 1962, so that would have Best's signature They signed the 2nd in October 1962, that would have Ringo's.

Paul McCartney was a lefthanded man and this bass guitar is for a righthanded musician. The bass player of my group plays a good french copy of "violin" bass that looks like McCartney's one, but he often plays a Fender Precision standard model.

Epstein is not referred to as "the fifth beatle"; that title belongs ot Sir George Martin.
Brian was absolutely referred to as the fifth Beatle until his untimely death. I've just read a book about him called The Fifth Beatle!! Stuart Suthcliffe actually WAS the fifth Beatle until his untimely death and George Martin too was often referred to as the fifth Beatle. George Harrison said there were ever only two 'fifth' Beatles, Derek James and Neil Aspinall and George should know, he WAS a Beatle. :D
