As soon as the condition shows "Normal" I change the oil. It works out to about 2 or 3 races, depending on the length of the race of course. I may just change it every race.
@Wolfe-Racing just a warning, not sure if its true. I read online that someone didn't put a whole lot of miles on their car but they liked changing oil after every race as a fun ritual, but his engine wore out fast and then changing oil and overhauling, once done, didnt last as long as it should. So his theory was that the game tracks how many oil changes youve done and goes off of that data to trigger your engine to be "old and high mileage"
@@ant7018 That makes sense. I only changed it when it was needed, but I've done it a bunch of times on that car particularly, since I've driven it so much. Thanks for the heads up.

Probably didn't help that you literally pinged it off the limiter for a whole few seconds mid corner there for a while... Shifting late up in rpms for prolonged periods it was gonna happen at some point
This has now happened to me twice in 2 weeks on sport mode. First time is was in the lead and lost. Then at bathurst when i got punted off. Very very frustrating. Had nothing to do with oil or engine life as i do them as soon as it says normal
Same here. Oil is changed as soon as it's no longer "Excellent." It may be the number of miles on the engine. It's pretty high, as it, and its Gr3 cousin are my favourite cars.
All these people talking shit don’t know what they are talking about. No matter how much you you change your oil eventually the engine has to be rebuilt. But I’m not sure that’s what happened to you. I’ve had 2 cars that needed their engines rebuilt and it’s a LOT of miles. So obviously you change your oil otherwise you’d be down on power for having bad oil. Unless you put a ton of miles on the engine I think it’s possible you broke it or it was a glitch. I was always hoping they’d bring back over rev damage. Since the update it seems like you can break the transmission so maybe you can break the engine again. I was in older versions of the game and it’s why the symbol is there. I didn’t really pay attention to your down shifting… but it could have been from going over a curb or something. Who knows… PD is trying to be better and better than their competitors and their competitors your can damage an engine pretty easy.
@@MrGivmedew I tend to ignore the shit talkers. No time for that. I think this may have been a bug. Or maybe I hit a sausage curb too many times. I’ve hit quite a few but I don’t think they accumulate from race to race. I dunno. But it made for an exciting finish to the race. 😊
I did it right before the race. I never let the oil condition go below "normal." The engine does have a fair number of miles on it, since it and its Gr3 cousin are my favourite cars. But it was a fresh oil change. Crazy.
Changing your oil will sustain your engine for longer but not forever. When your oil is not in excellent condition, you lose performance slightly. Your engine will still blow after thousands of miles either way mate.
And frankly I'm glad it did. It means PD coded this level of realism into the game. I love that. It's why I've been playing Gran Turismo for 25 years. :)
This game is VERY FORGIVING with high reving so that’s a slippery slope hypothesis. I think when you went over the Apex you must hit the bottom end on the apex. Thats the ONLY visible way I could see your engine faulting. This is insane.
Agreed. From what I've been able to find out, you can't blow an engine from over-revving. Only physical damage will do it, but I'm not even sure your car gets damage from going over curbs, even the big sausage curbs. Perhaps it does?
You were on the rev limiter far too much. Im not sure if you keep up with oil changes in GT games but you should... Its my guess that you caused excessive heat by overworking that rev limiter and the engine finally just said 💩💥🔥😒
Lol this hasn't happened to me but i think this is so cool to happen, I was hoping that they would have the chassis redg work against rammers lol Make them spend the coin to repair that car they wreck to gain positions.
This is a bug thats been around since month 6 or so of the game. The game registers heavy contact engine damage, for whatever reason, when on track for no good reason. There are alot of comments about "you over revved it" "you didnt maintain it" these are not features of GT7 -- you cannot damage an engine, or even change its oil change interval, thru driving, and ignoring the oil change just decreases power, nothing else Actually amazing to me how badly misinformation has permeated this fanbase
Your comment - and your video - got me thinking, so I did some checking. I can't find anything on a bug that causes engines to blow, but I did find a few articles written by reviewers that touch on the damage model in game. It seems to be, as you say, more cosmetic than anything, with engine damage, worn oil, etc, only affecting power output. If it is only a bug, it certainly keeps the races interesting. As for misinformation, this is usually caused by a lack of information from the source. If PD hasn't been specific about what the oil life, engine status, etc, actually do, people will fill in the blanks themselves. And it's way more fun to believe that these things have an affect, rather than it being a bug, so that's probably why people think that. Either way, thanks for the info. I was honestly wondering how my engine blew during a race.
Found this: "GT7 will feature engine wear and tear which you’ll need to keep on top of with oil changes and engine refreshes." It's super vague, and doesn't actually state that these things will affect anything in game, but gives the impression that they will. I'm guessing this is why people think this way.
@Wolfe-Racing np, and yeah PD isn't the best about info. Also let me be clear - not shitting on you in any way with that vid. It's just an example. You're great man and I wish you all the best

Guys stop sending misinformation ffs, I have a car with over 21000km (used for farming) and I have NEVER changed anything, everything is red in the garage but you just lose some Hp, it has NEVER exploded in a race
You're right. People have proved you can't blow up an engine by over revving it. Heck, the last Daily Race A proved it, with the NSX banging off the redline for half the main straight. 🤣 PD made it seem as if the oil and engine life are somehow relevant and important. As you say, you lose about 2 hp when the oil gets bad. Maybe a couple more. That's it. Kinda lame, actually.
@@Wolfe-RacingTrue. you can lose more hp if the engine starts to wear out too but it never explodes during a race, my Tomahawk X with both oil and engine at critical has lost around 200hp, on a normal car it would be much less probably Tbh I'm not even sure if it actually matters while BOP is active, I've never tested it and since my fully broken car is the Tomahawk I don't know if I can test it, but I'll probably try one day for curiosity, I wanna try by myself because with all these misinformation I don't trust much people's takes
@@nyanv4n1ll4_4 That's good info to have. If I host lobbies again on Sunday, I'll put out a message to the Community to let everyone know. If you join, let me know and I'll set up one of the races to allow for the Tomahawk. Run it once with yours and once with a rented one as a test. And I get you on the misinformation. I thought it was related to engine and oil life, like so many others, until this happened and I did some checking. I blame PD though, as the way it's worded gives the impression that oil and engine wear are related. They never actually state that, but it's well word-smithed to give the idea.

@@kevinsalazar7008 No. I just did it with the livery editor. About 150 layers of 3 different flame decals at 10% opacity. Looooots of duplicating, adjusting size and position, rinse and repeat. ;)
This happened to me like twice 😂
Damn, that's crappy luck.
What was the oil condition before the race?
Brand new. I had just changed it. It was down to "normal" and I always change it when it is. But that car has a lot of miles on it, since I race it a lot. That might have influenced the randomness, perhaps?
How many races can you do before changing oil?
That never happened with me and I play since 2022
Never did oil changes?
I never let it go below "Normal." Changed it right before this race. The car has a fair number of miles though, since I drive it a lot. That might have contributed.
I change oil as soon as it says "normal" 😅
In Everybody's Golf, which I've played regualarly with friends for many years only one time has my ball gotten stuck in a tree and just once my golfer missed the "auto" gimme putt that you have no control over....
The fact that the ball got stuck in the tree is impressive enough. Well done!

I’m collector level 19 and I still keep up with maintenance even though i’m new😂 maybe being max level just makes you forget abt that stuff idk
I still keep up with maintenance. I change the oil when it gets to Normal. But apparently miles driven and the number of oil changes make a difference as well. I guess race engines blow sometimes.
Check the mileage you put on the car, during races no doubt, flat out. Now, hopefully you did oil changes. But! I have a SF23 that needs an engine replacement after 1000 miles+ racing. It happens mate, especially in race cars.
That car had 1774 miles on it at the time. All oil changes done when the condition dropped to Normal. I guess, when it's your time to go... the reaper waits for us all, including our engines. 😆
@@Wolfe-Racing 😅🤣 Damn just when my back spasmed I read the comment😅🤣
Its worst when you race though, send a report to Honda, think Gran Turismo messed up the real driving simulator😅😎 Usually reliable, according to my local Ricer

How many miles are on that car any how
At the time of the video, there were 1400 kms on it.

I’ll recommend you to do the service on cars that you use often because it might make no sense but it affects your car’s performance
Eh but it does make sense. Oil gets old dirty and gritty. If you lubricate metal moving parts with gritty oil it wears out
@@ant7018 what I’m saying is that I doesn’t make sense in a racing game
@santiagoivanmagana4859 I know but gran turismo has nearly always had it that way for "realism" it makes sense to PD and players who like it
What’s the miles on the engine ?
I hear thats what can happen when the traction control is on
time to replace that engine 😂
No way. I'm gonna wait until it really goes boom! 🤣
Wow! Never seen that in 25 years of playing this game.
I wonder what his oil was like lol
Brand new. I changed it right before that race.
That is strange as hell. I some how under the impression your car is at prime condition when you goes into daily race or any national or manufacture race.
I have and issue when the car just keeps on running straight no gas no steering or brakes, I change control quickly to find out wasn't the control and happens when on first place
What that’s crazy
Probably didn't help that you literally pinged it off the limiter for a whole few seconds mid corner there for a while...
Shifting late up in rpms for prolonged periods it was gonna happen at some point
I would say it was your rig that was faulty, I had a very similar but intermittent issue with my rig recently only to find out it was a loose wire
After 100.000km if you catch limiters it gon do this happens on my drift builds 😢
Thanks for the info. :)
@@Wolfe-Racing yeah I thought that too. I covered 5500miles in my porsche rsr. After the first engine fail I rebuilt the engine then it done it again
@@bigdog66711 Do you remember how long you got out of it after the overhaul?

just change the oil when it goes bad… simple 💀
@@joey3789 Except I did. Right before this race. That’s why I was so confused.
I overhaul my engines with oil changes..
Who knows…
PD is trying to be better and better than their competitors and their competitors your can damage an engine pretty easy.
Had you overhauled your engine since you had the car
Not yet. It still shows "Excellent" condition, so I haven't worried about it.
Only 1.1k miles on it dang
Engines cant blow up they just decrease in power oil oil oil
Oil change????
I did it right before the race. I never let the oil condition go below "normal." The engine does have a fair number of miles on it, since it and its Gr3 cousin are my favourite cars. But it was a fresh oil change. Crazy.
@Wolfe-Racing
I have never had that happen. But I did find out that if you do an engine swap that car won't be allowed to compete in sport. 🤔
@@kevinsalazar7008 I believe that. Putting an LFA engine in a Yaris would make it a bit over classed. ;)
@@Wolfe-Racing
🤣 Absolutely!
I did it with a GTR GR.3.
Probably because you had a 1000 miles on the car...
@@Wolfe-Racingsame here mate. Since the ps1 lol.
@@leecooper2471 Hell yeah! I cut my teeth on GT1. The graphics weren't great, but the physics were amazing, even back then.
Its my guess that you caused excessive heat by overworking that rev limiter and the engine finally just said 💩💥🔥😒
800€?? Vertical stand sold seperatly...😡😵💫
Thats because ur using traction control for gr4 car.
Lol this hasn't happened to me but i think this is so cool to happen, I was hoping that they would have the chassis redg work against rammers lol
Make them spend the coin to repair that car they wreck to gain positions.
and i thought this game screwed with me man
It's definitely been doing some weird random stuff lately. I think the new physics update might have broken a few things.
Could be because you need to change your oil.
This is a bug thats been around since month 6 or so of the game. The game registers heavy contact engine damage, for whatever reason, when on track for no good reason.
There are alot of comments about "you over revved it" "you didnt maintain it" these are not features of GT7 -- you cannot damage an engine, or even change its oil change interval, thru driving, and ignoring the oil change just decreases power, nothing else
Actually amazing to me how badly misinformation has permeated this fanbase
@@Wolfe-Racing it will degrade HP over time. You'll just lose power. Was a feature starting in GT2, iirc
@Wolfe-Racing np, and yeah PD isn't the best about info.
Also let me be clear - not shitting on you in any way with that vid. It's just an example. You're great man and I wish you all the best
@@ForeverDriven2121 Thanks very much. I appreciate that. And I also appreciate clearing up the confusion. I honestly wasn't sure how my engine just blew for no reason. Bugs will do that.

PD made it seem as if the oil and engine life are somehow relevant and important. As you say, you lose about 2 hp when the oil gets bad. Maybe a couple more. That's it. Kinda lame, actually.
@@Wolfe-RacingTrue.
you can lose more hp if the engine starts to wear out too but it never explodes during a race, my Tomahawk X with both oil and engine at critical has lost around 200hp, on a normal car it would be much less probably
Tbh I'm not even sure if it actually matters while BOP is active, I've never tested it and since my fully broken car is the Tomahawk I don't know if I can test it, but I'll probably try one day for curiosity, I wanna try by myself because with all these misinformation I don't trust much people's takes
