  • If you’re preparing for your private pilot check ride, you NEED to watch this video. While the major news is that the FAA just released the long awaited ACS for Flight Instructor Airplane, the fact is, they released a total of 15 new or updated ACS documents, including the Private Pilot ACS. What are the changes?
    Warning: The information provided in this video is for demonstration purposes only. The information and results cannot be used for an actual flight. To plan an actual flight, you will need to use the information in the Pilot’s Operating Handbook, and the other documents associated with the specific airplane you fly.

      You are very welcome. At the time there wasn’t much online about the updates (the CFI ACS was new and had bigger changes, therefore got more press). I was afraid they might catch people by surprise. Glad you found it helpful!

    Gave up on getting my private. Couldn’t afford to wait 8 months for a checkride and tired of instructors not caring.

      Sorry to hear that, but I fully understand. I tried for 3 months to get a check ride, in 3 different states, but had no luck. My written test expired, and I had to re-take it. I know it lasts two years, but also had the passing of multiple family members during this time. Perhaps it's just not in the cards!

      @@Rance120my condolences for your loss. I’ve tried off and on, work and family permitting, to finish my private. Spent the last 18 months really going after it. But after the 9th instructor and the wait time for a checkride, ran out of money once again. The industry as of the last few years just doesn’t seem to care about anything but the cash flow. Maybe one day we will both be able to make this accomplishment happen. Best of luck.

      Wow, 9 instructors is crazy! Thanks for the kind words, and best of luck with getting your certificate.

      I’m very sorry to hear that. Check ride scheduling is definitely still an issue. We’ve had students traveling to the far ends of neighboring states to complete a rating-which is a bit extreme for a Private Pilot. Plus it starts getting VERY expensive. I’m also sorry your instructors didn’t care. The current situation seems to bring out the best and worst. I’ve run into CFIs that bend over backward for their students, and I’ve seen instructors that are truly only sitting right seat to build time. I’m sorry your experience seems to be with the latter group. I hope things change at some point and you get to finish. Best of luck!

      That’s terrible! I went through 3 instructors back when I started flight training in 2016! The first 2 instructors were awful. Luckily the 3rd one was great. Even though I just spent around 15-ish hours with him, he did a great job in training me, and preparing me for my checkride!
      It was then, that I swore to myself, that if I ever were to become a CFI, I would dedicate myself to my students, and never, EVER behave like these people!
      It took me over 100 hours to get my private, because of all the “starts and stops” and the 1st 2 instructors who were only interested in “building their hours” for the airlines! The 2nd instructor even told me how much he HATES doing this job! Imagine that!
      Now I’m about to complete my CFI / CFII and hope to start instructing in a couple months. I’m excited to begin this new journey and hope to do justice to my students’ training, unlike some of those awful instructors who only look at this job as a way to their end goals!
      If you are not interested (or good) at teaching, and don’t have the patience and understanding required to be an instructor, you should not teach, period! 🙄 Find some other way of building those hours!

    Been waiting for my check ride to be scheduled for 2 weeks, I hope I don’t have one of those 8 month wait horror stories

    • @ScottKoonCFI
      @ScottKoonCFI  2 місяці тому +1

      I hope not, too. There is definitely an issue getting them scheduled. And, with the weather in Minnesota this winter and spring we’ve also had a fair number of scheduled check rides get canceled. I have been speaking to our local FSDO. They are aware and have been supportive, but this appears to be a nation-wide issue. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy check ride!

      Thanks for the comment. It sounds like you’ve had a bad check ride experience. If that’s true, I’m sorry to hear that. Do you and your CFI have a plan on how to move forward?

    • @Advent2k2
      @Advent2k2 2 місяці тому

      I had an examiner that would fail student on purpose just to for him to earn extra money. Until FSDO finally caught up with him and took his privilege. I was wondering if he fail me for that reason because he fail me for something that wasn’t on the PTS

    • @ScottKoonCFI
      @ScottKoonCFI  2 місяці тому

      @Advent2k2 Wow. Very sorry to hear that. I’m glad the FSDO stepped in and stopped it, but that still leaves you (and the others) in a bad place. Did you retake and pass your check ride?
