Yann Pissenem (and his trademark €600 Vetements T-shirt) is the embodiment of what has gone wrong in Ibiza and the subsequent assassination of everything that Ibiza used to be: authentic, inclusive, raw, unique. His argument about the "couple" dancing and feeling "proteced" inside a prive sums it up perfectly. Every year one step closer to Vegas.
His whole company group and clubs is the biggest money making scam on the island. It's insanely unbelievable how he gets away with selling 3x the tickets of the capacity of his venues and no authority stops this. Besides making it impossible for people to enjoy themselves, they are cramped to a point where just moving your hand is impossible, it's also a major safety concern. If an emergency happens, people won't be able to escape safely - there will be casualties... :(
@@andrewfranke7669 It´s seems like you're missing something. They are the AUTHORITY. The presence of prostitutes every night in front of Ushuaia is a clear sign. Family of politicians and of course, the endorsement of friends of the Consell.
I saw a girl on the floor who had lost conscience right outside the Ushuaia entrance, she was there for minutes and minutes, around midnight getting out of the Calvin Harris dj set, her friends were in panic, nobody was doing anything, no ambulance nothing. they must do better regarding these situations too.
Ibiza was amazing in the 90's and its gradually become Marbella over the years with greedy promoters and VIP social media muppets. Sorry if you missed it guys but remember, the revolution is always better at the begining and that is long gone 😊❤

A really nice documentary and feel compelled to comment on the island. Having visited the island for the past 20 years, I’ve noticed a significant change since Space closed in 2016. Personally, it no longer feels as free and underground as it once did. For many years now, I’ve observed that VIP culture is increasingly taking over the island.
I remember the first time I went and we weren't allowed to bring our cameras into the clubs (This was before camera phones). We need to bring back those days
Everytime I visit Pacha, more and more of the club becomes VIP. I remember having so much fun in the rabbit warren it used to be. It was still amazing come 5am and the real ravers were left but for much of the night the "dancefloor" was unreachable. Pikes is the best venue on the island now in my opinion x
I've been visiting ibiza every year since the early 2000s and I'm sad to say my visit last month will most likely be my last. It is extortionately overpriced.. everyone just stands with their camera phones out, rather than experiencing the moment in the moment. The health and safety in ushuaia is non existent.. I have been clubbing for over 25 years- I went to Calvin Harris last year and there was so many people crammed in that I actually had an anxiety attack and had to leave. Never experienced anything like it. Maybe I'm getting too old now, but for me personally, ibiza circa 2000-2005 will never be topped
It ain't about music, feeling and "the moment", nowadays it's all about visuals and destroy the spirit with the smartphone in the air, all we needed was a PA, DJ, Drinks and good people, location didn't matter
I m the same. Went to Ibiza for the first time in 2001 and it was incredible. Really grateful to have been there back then. I know times change and the younger generations need their time but I honestly see videos now and it just looks boring. DJs used to watch the crowd dancing but now the crowd watch the DJs dancing. Been to Ibiza 9 times now. Last time being 2017 and I m not sure I d go back. Don’t want to spoil my memories of it
First time I went was 98 and was amazing. My last visit was 2013 and you could see the change then. I’ve no intention of ever returning. So sad to see the change and the look at me VIP crew.
Class. Unhtsterical, balanced and well informed. Was happy to help Laurence last September @ Ibiza Trance Event. great to see it finally come out after the Covid hiatus.
I mean if you spend 250k you are rich buddy even if its a credit card . This doc is awesome! I went to Ibiza in the early 90's for peanuts and it was..... dammmm!!!! I don't remember lol
Yeah so great Blog. Thanks for this video, I've been going to Ibiza 10 times myself, starting in the 20s. Party Party Party... and I've been to many places, at spring breaks, festivals, concerts... but that's all just the little finger of Ibiza. Ibiza has a different magic that you can't describe - you have to experience it. I'm now over 30 and hope I'll live there one day. Still feel that energy.
I don't understand this movie. Ibiza was 20 years ago!!!! You don't explain it with covid!!!!! because prices in 2010 were already abstract to outsiders!!!! There is no balance here, there are only blinded people €> Only creators. They want to do something about it. In 10 years no one will go to Ibiza because only a sheikh from Dubai will be able to have fun in an empty room. This is no longer the club center of Music. This is the island of tiktok.
@alt3rnatywa excellent comment. Very true. The island were its cool to be seen. Its been like this for quite some time now. I started to spot it around 2009/10 it all went pear shaped and never recovered.
Carl Cox was as quiet as a Hindu cow during the destruction of nightlife and music scene during the pandemic tells me everything I need to know about this 'superstar DJ'. How come so many successful, influential mainstream DJ's that say they bring people together through music for creative passion and positive energy but followed the 'science' and government propaganda did nothing but remain silent whilst others did not. Obviously if that will affect their income, personal reputation or status then by remain silent is exactly what they did....i thought it was a community of peace loving free thinking individuals. These 'superstars' did nothing to use their powerful cultural influence to speak out about the global tyranny through their own cowardice, or most likely on the music industry payroll which is totally controlled by wealthy powerful social engineers, elite global think-tanks and agenda driven corporations. Imagine being a maverick, cultural and anti-establishment club owner or record label wanting to show love, peace and harmony but you open and profit your clubs because you served the WHF and WEF agenda because you choose to conform to this agenda for personal profit whilst many with a backbone lost their livelihood because they did push back against the regime. The complete lack of self-awareness by the people interviewed in this video is a total embarrassment. These ego driven morons avoid responsibility like Dracula avoids sunlight.
This is a great doc about the evolution of Ibiza, very good job telling what is back on the island. Ibiza is not only clubbing, with the right kind of balance there is place for everyone out there
First went in my early 20’s & still going in my early 50’s….. yes it has changed but so have I’ it has something for everyone……& I still feel 21 again every time that plane touches down……. 💙
I'm Italian, I went to Ibiza when I was a child and I totally felt in love with this Island, since that year I return on the island every year: for the vacation with my family, for the party, for the seaside, for 3 days or for 2 weeks. This documentary is really interesting because in the last year in my opinion the costs and the prices are literally too much expensive. I trust in a solution where government will equilibrate the richest and exclusive parts of the island with the best solutions for local people. It isn't possible transform Ibiza in a rich island for large pocket people! This isn't Ibiza! I love Ibiza for her soul and for her heart, when you wander the streets in the middle of the Island you feel a sensation without comparison: freedom, carefreeness and a little bit nostalgia of the past. For me Ibiza is all of these sensations, Ibiza is magic and no money can ever buy the emotions of this island!
One of the most important new documentaries on music, tourism, economics, social issues, government and balance. From this we can learn a lot about how to manage and how not to manage tourism and the dependency on/off it. Let's learn from this and make our society better. Thank you
Wished I’d caught Ibiza from 1987... First trip wasn’t until 1993, still amazing, as was 1994 when Manumission @Ku took off... Can’t believe that’s 30 years ago this Summer!
‘We need to protect brand Ibiza.’ That comment sums it up for me. I have been to both Ibiza & Berlin. The difference in terms of a true clubbing experience is like night & day. The Berlin club owners are clued up. They could charge more but they see the bigger picture. They appreciate its about the dance floor & the variety of characters that make it special. Everyone together, equal, no class or status, no egos, no Gucci wearing TikTok twats. Just real ravers, real vibes. Berlin is still underground & will remain so. Ibiza had the magic once. No more.
Lived on the island for 4 years. In a nutshell sadly the locals who staff the bars, the shops, the restaurants work long days, aggressively hunt for accommodation they can afford and most of them are having to share rooms with people to pay the rental costs. Ibiza makes 100,000.000 in 6 months, they need to help the locals. So many expensive flats bought by the super rich who only come to the island and be in their house/villa for 2 weeks a year….give so little to the economy. The ones that come in their yachts eat and party on their boats and then will have a few nights out at the super clubs. The local shops are suffering like clothes shops. The unique shops that make Ibiza so special are on their knees. The massive cruise ships arrive for the day and the tourists just buy a fridge magnet, they don’t spend back on the ship for lunch or dinner. The government wants the island to be for the super rich, they want it to be a luxury island. You can’t compare Berlin to Ibiza. Berlin is a capital and has many revenue streams. Ibiza it’s clubbing and yes to a smaller extension health and well being. I hope a solution can be met as the locals are wonderful people, living in paradise but surviving on very little money….ibiza really is a special place.❤
@yannipissem has lied through his teeth! In main club room YOU CANNOT see from every part of the room the show! Furthermore he should provide concrete explanation regarding his outrageous prices (18€ for a Red Bull / 14€ for a bottle of water) and the fact that he oversells the club to a point where YOU CANNOT EVEN WALK FREELY within the club! HiIbiza is clearly killing the vibe and what I wrote is sadly the truth
10000% facts - this is beyond talking about not having space to move in the club or dance. There is also a major safety concern here. IF something happens in that club people will die.
Went to Hï for the first time last night and I was disgusted with the place. The tackiness is off the charts. Everything that guy touches is pure trash.
I did 10 summers in Ibiza it was almost religious for me to go there and I have some amazing memories, my problem with Ibiza's evolution isn't all the new legislation it's the pickpocketing, scamming, overly agressive policing and the change in music/club culture. You only need to go to the top of the West End and try to avoid the prostitutes whilst hiding your money to get a glimpse of the underlying problems. I remember the first time I landed in Ibiza and it was everything I hoped it would be, fast forward a few years and the amount of people crammed in especially at Ushuaia and Amnesia makes it uncomfortable. Whilst it is likely profit maximization it's trashing the image of Ibiza. You can't dance in a sardine can, but you can hold up a mobile phone which is they way it's gone.
I wanted to go to Beefa when I was 11 when I first heard of it in 89 I think . Yes 11 I fell in love when I heard what was coming out of Chicago. I used to go to school talking about it and playing house music while my mates was listening to the dirty dancing soundtrack . Sadly I was too young so I missed out on warehouse raves and when I got the chance to go to beefa in the 2000,s I said nah , the beefa I wanted to go to does not exist anymore it's way to commercial. I wanted the t shirt wearing dancing sweating house heads who's vibration was raised by the music and we didn't care where we danced coz it was all about the tunes rather than looking good or cool. Long long gone .
I prefer Berlin. It's more techno. It's more genuwine. It's more authentic. Greed has no limits. I don't see how Ibiza as a collective would say "We have enough money - Let's allow any wealth class to purchase tickets and rent hotel rooms and join us." Ibiza looks alot like Vegas now. Sad state of affairs.
Two different places with two different atmospheres, the only thing they have in common is electronic music. Ibiza is an island with amazing beaches, an old town, scantily clad girls and boys showing off their bodies. Even if you don't go to those clubs, it's interesting to go. Berlin is a city with a lot of alternative places, undergrounds clubs, but you can also find that in London, New York, Amsterdam or Los Angeles. Ibiza is unique, there is no other island like this one, although many want to be.
@@comunidadaerea2400 I would doubt that, on any given weekend, you have the same density of interesting DJs in any of the cities compared to Berlin. Many interesting DJs are also Berlin residents that don’t show up in the other cities as frequently.
As the saying goes: "It's all gone, Pete Tong'. VIP can't keep on holding the roof up forever. Ibiza needs normal tourists that spend 'normal' money on a drink and create the vibe on the dancefloor. VIP is BS anyway, it is a tiny drop on a boiling plate. When millions of people start to avoid Ibiza, the dancefloors will be empty and VIP will get bored rather fast. Eventually the prices will come down automatically. That will happen sooner than anyone thinks. There are other places on the planet that can easily compete with ibiza and are far cheaper.
Berlin can easely compete with Ibiza. Clubs are cool and undrground. Prices are getting more expensive. But nothing compared. Last month i payed 22euros entry to Berghain.
@@TheJuanshouse only regarding club culture i would agree without knowing it in Detail. But, Ibiza is more than club culture, it has that balearic feeling, the weather, the landscape, the beaches, the sea, that's the whole package, what makes this island unique. But those money- hungry people will destroy it sooner or later, as i mentioned, tighten the screw far and far will end in tearing off the head.
@@markbirdage4809 I agree. I love Ibiza. It’s so beautiful. The beaches. The small towns. I’ve been around the island. Been fortunate to stay there for longer periods. But I also love Berlin. It’s a great city. Diverse. It’s cool. Has lots of history. I love both places. But clubbing is more fun in Berlin at the moment. Berghain is doing everything right.
Great movie. I like that it also shows how the clubbing started on Ibiza. My first visit on the Island was in 2006 and so far I’ve come back eight times. On Ibiza I’ve discovered House Music and Hippy life. Since my first visit I fall in love in Ibiza and had there my favourite holidays in my life and created the best memories which will stay with me forever. My last visit was in June 2024 and I was interested if the Ibiza still has the same vibe after pandemic. I’m the party goer so the clubs are a big thing for me and unfortunately I have to say that party experience on that holiday was the worst I ever had. I’m really sorry to say this because I love Ibiza, but this is sadly true. The clubbing experience I had before (mainly between 2006 - 2015) was superior compared to what is happening now. Previously most of the nights in most clubs been a really unique experience. Each night was like a show (Manumission, La Troya, Matinee, SuperMartXé, La Espuma) with lots of dancers, acrobats, decorations and so on. My favourite club was Amnesia, especially when club won the multiple awards for the best club in the world. So when I went there it feels like I’m in special place with unique atmosphere. Another great place was Privilege. Also that time the parties been much more wilder/sexy and to see for example a topless dancer was a usual thing. Currently there is nothing compared to what Ibiza had to offer in terms of clubbing experience. Luckily the music is still great, but that's pretty much all. I understand that the prices went up but what the clubs has currently to offer for what they charge is very little. So you pay let say 65 euro to get in and what you see inside is let say three professional dancers (if you lucky) and poor decorations. There is no show, pretty much music only with a few lights here and there. For that I don’t need to go to Ibiza. I know that the music is the most important part of the club, but this is Ibiza - people expect more than just the great music. For example, what happen on night out to Amnesia. Previously they had lots of professional dancers and great shows. Now, very poor experience. The place where used to dance at least few dancers now I can see VIP people only with no show. Another night I went to HI Ibiza. This club won recently the award for the best club in the world. So the expectations been high. And you know what - this club was one the worst party experience I ever had. Club was massively overcrowded with no dancers at all (at least that time when I’ve been there), very poor overall decorations. I left after about an hour. These are only a few examples of how clubbing went massively down in Ibiza. You pay twice more for three time less experience. Also I saw much less hippies on the Island, which is a shame. To be honest I still love Ibiza for the great time which I had there before and this Island always will be in my heart, but after my last holiday I’m not sure if I will be rushing to comeback there. That Ibiza vibe which was so special in the past is not there anymore. Many club owners think only about squeezing as much money as they can from the club goers with not giving much back.
25 years ago people were renting balconies out to sleep on and sofas ,the clubs would give free entry to bar workers and guest lists if you knew someone you could get in big clubs free ,the vip was not the place to be at all ,many free parties at villas ,it was possible to work and stay the season easy.people would sleep at beaches at nite and in camper vans ,i lived on a eco site worked a few hours a day in exchange for food and a place to live after i left a job working for some very rich germans and having a house on there land and the eco site was way better with some amazing people ,anywhere that just caters for the rich is not work going to ,ibiza is a magical island and worth going to out of season to explore
The Pandamic did not only change Ibiza but the whole world. I used to be a plumber now im a project manager in that plumbing company. Clubs did close down and did open new windows. There are so many new Djs and Event makers now in the whole world and im one of them. I can feel the copetition and greed in many, but i am in it because of the vibes i get connecting with others throug music. I even hoste free underground raves and playing for free my self. Because i love everything around it. Telephones and VIP have nothing to do with music. I host and play more underground music and just laughe when i see and here this. I not want to go to ibiza ore any other music destination or music event to go to a VIP room. Im so proud and happy to say that i have experienced the early 90s on the dance floors. No mobiles no VIP just pure love and extace ❤ The gen Z not know how things used to be 🙏
That was an awesome watch. 18 or 81 you can go to Ibiza, went in my 20’s and went this year just after turning 50 (although somewhat quieter these days😅) Frustrating that it has become so expensive and that most people go for the social media picture or video nowadays, but at least I experienced it as I believe it should be experienced.
Poor are getting poorer and rich are getting richer. As long as this continues Ibiza will still be alive for the rich people. Every dj playing on Ibiza is supporting this progression, playing for the money nor the people nor the music.
Exactly !! Nobody calls out the DJ's but they are a responsible for that too for sure. It's the same excuse the police could come up with in tyrannical times.."we were just doing our job". Bullshit , it makes me puck when i see these creatures playing and the entitlement , the sense of self importance like if they were bigger than the dancefloor and music all together. It's just fck ridicolous and then people wonder where the vibes have gone? haha just look around it's a whole narcissistic shitshow from dj's to people and the whole thing.
@jayaz9113 as the legendary frankie knuckles said " the minute you think your bigger than the music, your finished " frankie boy seen this coming a mile away. The loaded air headed zombie now own/run/and party on the island now and the genuine die hard clubber has been turfed out to make way for the $$$$$$
@@notmaya1157 you couldn’t have said better than that! Few know and it’s almost like it’s not even “allowed” to talk about it cus we might kill the vibes of the “good vibes only crowd” haha And incredible what Frankie Knuckles said. I didn’t know about that, brilliant way to put it. Really true.
@jayaz9113 just double checked the quote my friend it is in fact. " the minute you think you are greater than the music your finished " he was on to something definitely !
I went back to Ibiza this summer for first time in over a decade and I thought it was sad to see the daytime party vibes are now all enclosed inside those big hotel beach club complexes. Much prefer the days of Bora Bora at PdB beach. Now that beach is way quieter. The authorities and their noise pollution rules obviously a major factor too. But it was only one section of the beach where you had the music and main party vibe, to get a quieter vibe people could still find it down the beach in either direction. And of course there are loads of family friendly quiet and music free beaches already in Ibiza for those who prefer that. Basically one of the key aspects that differentiated Ibiza from nearly all other holiday destinations and they chose to take it away. Crazy.
It has changed considerably over the years to the point where the younger generation are almost completely priced out. I was holidaying in Ibiza every year since 2001 and moved there to open a bar/restaurant in 2012. Even by that point the change was evident. The rise of the daytime superclub of Ushuiai, tacky table service gaffs like Ocean Beach and then the transition from Space to Hi all signalled a changing of the guard in Ibiza along with changes in regulation which were more favored towards benefitting the daytime parties, funnily enough Ushuaia being owned by Matutes, Ibizas richest man. Everything changes i guess and things are ‘never as good as they used to be’ but in Ibizas situation, that definitely is the case… Bottle service and VIP can be found all over the world, Ibiza really must struggle on to retain or should I say regain it’s Island magic
The legendary magic no longer exists, that magic has been gradually eroded into the dirt over the last 15 years by gross over-commercialism and greed. Ibiza used to be a place where people went and revisited because they felt like they belonged there, now it's just a place to be seen, an Instagram poser paradise which just encapsulates the modern social media VIP culture. I experienced Ibiza and the clubbing scene as a whole through the late 90's through to the mid / late 2000's when you were surrounded by people caught in the headlights of euphoric moments, absorbed in that special energy which you lived and breathed, now those moments are just a sea of zombies on a dancefloor holding mobile phones in the air. I'm not going to pretend that if smartphones existed 20 years ago we wouldn't have done the same, this isn't about saying "we were better than you", it's just fact of modern life and the way the world is now, people don't party anymore, they just gather, all desperately seeking social acceptance. That island will always have a special energy, but the Ibiza experience itself is dead, its a place driven by business and greed rather than by real people all coming together for the same thing. I'm sure plenty will disagree with me but when you've seen what Ibiza has evolved into over the last 15 years it's literally a different place.
The island has changed so much during my 17 years here. The families who love Ibiza are being priced out, now all about VIP culture. Very sad.... And there's more to the island than just clubs!
First of all, thank you very much for putting of all the facts about the island together in this one video. Fully agree about the vital need to have continuous communication between government, authorities, and entrepreneurs, who invest money in event business on the island. Great point is that there is need to attract young ravers to the island for holidays. I was one of such young people, who now cannot get rid of the wish to come back to the island twice a year 😂 Basically all our important soul connections are being built when we are young. Also this is important to organize affordable events/parties for local people. Build affordable accommodation for stuff. And the most important to think about the options, how to attract young people to stay the island and to create appropriate educational environment so that young local people will not have to leave Ibiza.
@@TheJuanshouse Don't worry they will. It will be container boxes with airconditioning in the best case, shared by six people with a shared toilet outside. This is how it is in Mykonos and Santorini. But of course the tourist will not see it.
Great documentary, highly recommended. Ibiza has to go back to the roots without going back to the roots. There are many good ideas in the Heads of the interviewed people, now these has to become real and that's the challenge. Actually i can't see that much of a change especially regarding prices. Tighten the screw far and far will end up in tearing off the head.
Brilliant doc 🎉 Been visiting island every year since 2002, island has massively changed and cost through the roof. But world is dictating these clubs and prices , without best clubs and DJs on offer then people and DJ won’t come. It is only going to get more expensive.
@@djLovelyTime they aren’t though, they set the whole scene for this pathetic culture that is running rule over the island now. Goons prancing about doing selfies with £300 bottles of naff vodka etc. House music used to rule that island. I remember sitting on a sofa behind the DJ booth in Mambo watching Joey N bring the sunset in playing ridiculous music. No phones, nobody bothering us, nobody asking us to move, just enjoying it 3 yards away from one of the best in the business… you reckon there’s any chance of me getting behind that DJ booth now?
You can't beat the late 90s into 00s ibiza, and its slight lawlessness, bring that back😂 . A few beers from the supermarket, head down to the beach near Café del Mar, see the sunset. Then west end to get on it, pop in the ticket shop, hit a superclub for some Euphoric trance. Superstar DJs lugging a big bag of tunes with them. On more gear than all the punters combined🤣 then Into a supermarket for some lays for breakfast, then thinking it would be a good idea to go Space all day😮😅. These 20yr olds dont know what they are missing... Oh and it financially ruined everyone back then just as much😂
Got home yesterday from a "family" holiday, our 14yo son LOVED the vibe, we are going back in 5 weeks for my wife's 50th for a proper Ibiza holiday !!! (without children) ;o)
Been there only three times in the 2000´s, the nights i spent in Pacha and Space were epic, and every time i think to go back, i think, maybe i shouldn't go, maybe i want to keep my memories intact. im afraid that going back will ruin my image of what was for me, one of the best party moments i had in my life... The world is changing, and everything is changing with it, including the party scene.
I was there last week. My 7th time in 25 years. I also loved the early 2000's so very much. The Space terrace,Bora Bora,DC10,... I was totally in love with the island. That vibe is long gone. If that vibe was still going strong i would definetly go out for a couple of nights. Even though i'm 50 now. Right now It's all about the money ,the rich ,the fame, big business, phones in the air,no dancing... That real Balearic feeling is gone. But I guess were also getting older and times change. I'ts still a fun island to visit when it comes to the island itself. But I think this was my last time...maybe... And glad i was part of it back the.
Praise to the makers of this film. Many important aspects were presented well. The housing shortage for employees and locals, just like in Mallorca, is causing a lot of social unrest, and rightly so. A problem that the government of the Balearic Islands must address, otherwise it will become a major problem for everyone. Personally, I found some of Yann/HI's statements to be very absurd and far removed from reality, and it is only thanks to the Matutes family that he can spend money without limits. But creativity is not made with money, but with thought. Ibiza is becoming arbitrary and interchangeable, and people then go to Hungary, Croatia or other places, because there they have the same video walls, the same DJs and the sound system is just as good, but you can have a great week with 4,000 euros, and in Ibiza it's 3 days and you've also spent 4,000. The development, as correctly recognized in the film, that 30-year-olds suddenly discover their love for IBIZA is unlikely. Ibiza will have a problem if the 20-year-olds stay away. Ibiza has always been expensive, but now it has simply become antisocially expensive. Not a good development.
Well, I was expecting to actually learn about the evolution of Ibiza, which is what the title was promising. Unfortunately it felt like the history was fast-forwarded. Hippies were mentioned, but it would have been nice to hear some interviews of those hippies - I guess there are some still alive, no? It would have been nice to hear the interviews of the locals who have lived decades there as well to understand the evolution over time. It would have been nice to hear a bit more about the history of Pacha as it was (and still is) an essential piece of night life. Flower Power was mentioned, but it would have been nice to hear about also the tracks that were popular back then. A lot of time was spent repeating the COVID-19 theme, but since this wasn't supposed to be the documentary how COVID-19 affected the Ibiza, this part could have been squeezed shorter. The sharing of the income that the tourists are spending and the high prices is a real issue and almost a daily topic in the newspaper Periódico de Ibiza. It's important to raise the awareness, but given the context of the document, it would have been enough to keep this message shorter as well. Audiovisual material had good quality and the story was easy to follow-up. The interviews of club promoters and DJs were interesting and Carl obviously knows a thing or two of the evolution of the club scene in any given location. Since AlphaTheta / Pioneer DJ were involved, this could have become a hardware advertising video, but luckily that pitfall was avoided.
The 90s… what a great time to be alive, im 40 now but I feel so blessed to have caught the tail end of it.. the electronic dance seen will NEVER be the same again….. I feel sorry for all these millennials, they have no idea how good it was back then…
There is still some magic in Ibiza if you know where to look but when Space closed and Carl Cox stopped playing on the island that magical underground element is just gone and it’s never gonna come back, sad to see!
Very interesting inquest. Since 2002, i go to Ibiza for summer holidays, in my opinion the point of view is: in which way do you want to enjoy Ibiza ? Party prices are every year increased a lot, but you can find also today some locals and places that remember the native Ibiza spirit, at low prices. For the future, it is clear that the island will have less tourism in order to advantage VIP people that spend lots of money preserving the annual incomes. But, instead of any consideration and evolution, Ibiza is Ibiza. A magic island.
I went in 2017, unfortunately too late in the year for Pacha, still had a great time. Saw a Spanish rock band in some hole in the wall bar, it was great, and the hippie town market was awesome
30:43 I have to give a shoutout to the young woman with the Spy Bar Chicago fan. I used to go to that club back in the 2000’s. Great times. Overall, I enjoyed this documentary.
i bought a one-way ticket there for a couple summers late 90s , found a used bicycle, rented an apartment for the summer, had pure ecstasy time there, can't believe nobody hit me, lol no bike lanes, hope that's changed - no phones back then, if you wanted photos it was daytime 35mm cameras, nobody taking photos on the dancefloor, sound was just as good , but i really want to experience the new upgrades Pacha has done and what will happen to Privilege? there was always just a handful of USA peeps there, loved getting the fresh squeezed orange juice, beach Salinas daytime, stayed in great shape, somehow found some time for sleep
There's something funny about 'There's no VIP without a dance floor'. I've recently been to a couple of venues worldwide where the VIP took about 75% of them room, leaving the remainder to bar and a small dance floor. I also know from experience that when large-scale culture-related businesses shift their focus from community and inclusion to profit and exclusivity, it is only a matter of time till they collapse fast. It's a very unsustainable business model which relies on the idea of an ever growing source of funding.
Such a great documentary! I still love Ibiza. The world change and we cannot always look back in history but understand how it transformed to what it is today good or bad. Ibiza is sooo much more about clubbing. It has everything. Anywhere in the world you could have great food, great beaches and amazing clubbing all in one!
Thanks a lot, nice documentary. A bit more facts and numbers over anecdotes only would have been great, but overall great job and interesting to watch.
Been in Ibiza 10 years ago & loved it. repetead the Experience now and it was horrible! Finding an accomodation was impossibile and we paid a lot of money for a horrible house. Prices were incredibly high and even water can cost up to 10 €. People waking adound like zombies & no safety everywhere. All places where more crowded than normal and moving was just a nightmare. I am deeply disappointed & will never go back if things remain the same . So sad and such a shame !!’
interesting documentary ! thank you. As a fan of electronic music and in particularly prog house, never been do Ibiza before. I want to visit hopefully next year. I understand that Covid was in particular tough for people that worked in the industry but I wonder if that 2 years period helped SOME djs/producers to spend more time with their families, maybe slow down on partying and travelling and focus on more their physical/mental health and extended the careers?
Good documentary. I love the Ibiza vibe but the prices and too crowded venues suck the fun out the experience. I have not been going after covid and I can just imagine how frustrating it’s today.
The best line in the movie: "No VIP without dancefloor... "
❤100 percent you will never fill a 6000 person club with millionaires so think on Ibiza
Can't fill a huge club with mediocre deejays anymore. Not on a consistent basis

What did you feel free to do before that you don't now?
"VIP is a looser concept" (Claim at "PIKES")
I remember the first time I went and we weren't allowed to bring our cameras into the clubs (This was before camera phones). We need to bring back those days
Im Berlin lots of clubs dont allow câmeras, even the mobiles 🙂

Everytime I visit Pacha, more and more of the club becomes VIP. I remember having so much fun in the rabbit warren it used to be. It was still amazing come 5am and the real ravers were left but for much of the night the "dancefloor" was unreachable. Pikes is the best venue on the island now in my opinion x
I also still enjoy Amnesia. Still has a bit of underground feeling and the VIP is upstairs so its not so in your face.

It was so lovely to see so many places on the island that we recognised from our 16 years visiting. Fantastic moving documentary
It’s not underground anymore so it’s lost its magic and vibe. Social media and camera phones have also ruined it
@garyashwood3804 the people with the camera phones are like zombies.
Well put, so sad but totally true.
@alt3rnatywa FACTS
Brilliant!! Spot on!!
Makes you laugh when they say "DJ's are the superstars now"
Chemical Bros literally made a song about it 20 years ago, love.

@@VoiceOfThe What was so special about 87 to 93? Best days were after that surely
Those were the years. This island is over for years.
Well put together documentary on the Ibiza scene👍
‘We need to protect brand Ibiza.’ That comment sums it up for me. I have been to both Ibiza & Berlin. The difference in terms of a true clubbing experience is like night & day. The Berlin club owners are clued up. They could charge more but they see the bigger picture. They appreciate its about the dance floor & the variety of characters that make it special. Everyone together, equal, no class or status, no egos, no Gucci wearing TikTok twats. Just real ravers, real vibes. Berlin is still underground & will remain so. Ibiza had the magic once. No more.
I find it sad how commercial the Ibiza scene is. For that reason, Berlin club culture is my number one.
The events that were off the beaten track were the best events and catered for people who wanted underground music.
Love it! Having been to Ibiza 16 times and absolutely love it, I'm super excited to watch this later. 😍
Facts
true :/
10000% facts - this is beyond talking about not having space to move in the club or dance. There is also a major safety concern here. IF something happens in that club people will die.

why did yall leave? 😮
Yann Pissenem strikes me as a bloke who says one thing and does the other.
Long long gone .
hahaha "Beefa"! never heard that one!😂

Amen. 🙏 Clubbers before business. Berlins model works. Authenticity over plasticity.
A social media person goes to Ibiza to show it to the world, a real clubber goes to Berlin!

Clubs did close down and did open new windows. There are so many new Djs and Event makers now in the whole world and im one of them.

I even hoste free underground raves and playing for free my self. Because i love everything around it.
Telephones and VIP have nothing to do with music. I host and play more underground music and just laughe when i see and here this.
I not want to go to ibiza ore any other music destination or music event to go to a VIP room.

That was an awesome watch. 18 or 81 you can go to Ibiza, went in my 20’s and went this year just after turning 50 (although somewhat quieter these days😅)
Frustrating that it has become so expensive and that most people go for the social media picture or video nowadays, but at least I experienced it as I believe it should be experienced.

Save you an hour. Ibiza is dead for dance music culture. Great for spending cash.
Ushuia hi destroyed everything
Crazy.

En 11 ans, j'ai vu changer l'île, et les drogues à même le passeo me rend triste. J'adore cette île, le mélange des genres, la musique à tous les coins de rues, le vivre ensembles, préservez là.🙏
Everything changes i guess and things are ‘never as good as they used to be’ but in Ibizas situation, that definitely is the case…
Bottle service and VIP can be found all over the world, Ibiza really must struggle on to retain or should I say regain it’s Island magic
Exctly. Build housing for the workers.
Music changes too, more mainstream and EDM
Brilliant doc 🎉
Been visiting island every year since 2002, island has massively changed and cost through the roof. But world is dictating these clubs and prices , without best clubs and DJs on offer then people and DJ won’t come. It is only going to get more expensive.
Thank you for this outstanding documentary!
Thank you for watching!
Ibiza still has unspoiled natural parts, its nice beaches is what attracts me. Lets keep this island peaceful and not a cashcow❤
keep? it is a cashcow, that's the problem.
Wow, how much that place has evolved since I was there in 2004. Space was really fun.
The end of Ibiza becoming St-Tropez begun with the closing of Space and the opening of Ushuaia.
Great to have a nice balanced doco on the rave scene, without the usual mainstream ranting and railing against "drug culture."
VIP focused rip off Island now, hope the owners of Mambo and people like Lineker are pleased with themselves.
💯 they've destroyed the pure energy with their toxic greed
@@djkmarie 100%… charging money to sit at a table, no thanks
Mambo and Linekars are such small players on the island.
@@djstuc this... social media, the desperate need for attention and showing off is what's ruined it all, it's not about the music now.
Totally resonated with me; Went in my 20s, fell in love, been back in my 30s (with kids) and will be back in my 40s...
great documentry! but lets be clear.. the magic has GONE!... something new on the horizon? ? lets see in 5-10 years time!
Don’t go back, you’ll be very disappointed. They turned it into a big business, they ruined the island unfortunately.
Not a good development.
what about all the drug dealers have they also packed their boats and sailed for the balkans? lol
I think Cyprus has the potential of becoming something like Ibiza I see a lot of similarities between them and their culture.
This is what the big bucks for CDJs go to... 🤔
Super nice!! 👏
😂
Great doc about an island we all love❤
I came from the legend of Ibiza Mr. Dwayne Muffin.✋🏻
❤
good doc! i just realized this on the Pioneer channel. would love to see more of these
The 90s… what a great time to be alive, im 40 now but I feel so blessed to have caught the tail end of it.. the electronic dance seen will NEVER be the same again….. I feel sorry for all these millennials, they have no idea how good it was back then…
There is still some magic in Ibiza if you know where to look but when Space closed and Carl Cox stopped playing on the island that magical underground element is just gone and it’s never gonna come back, sad to see!
I lived full-time in Ibiza 2009-2021, watched it turn into a VVVIP nightmare. I miss it but would not move back.
Great segments on origins. Thanks team pioneer. 🤙🏽😎🖤
I went in 2017, unfortunately too late in the year for Pacha, still had a great time. Saw a Spanish rock band in some hole in the wall bar, it was great, and the hippie town market was awesome
Attractive documentary, sharing the steak that makes the sizzle. Similar to Key West, FL. Tropical alternative state, turned vacation state.
30:43 I have to give a shoutout to the young woman with the Spy Bar Chicago fan. I used to go to that club back in the 2000’s. Great times.
Overall, I enjoyed this documentary.
Wow, how’d you catch that? Native Chicagoan here. 🤍
i bought a one-way ticket there for a couple summers late 90s , found a used bicycle, rented an apartment for the summer, had pure ecstasy time there, can't believe nobody hit me, lol no bike lanes, hope that's changed - no phones back then, if you wanted photos it was daytime 35mm cameras, nobody taking photos on the dancefloor, sound was just as good , but i really want to experience the new upgrades Pacha has done and what will happen to Privilege? there was always just a handful of USA peeps there, loved getting the fresh squeezed orange juice, beach Salinas daytime, stayed in great shape, somehow found some time for sleep
Same things happened to Glastonbury..
Full of influencers and VIP crew..
Its lost its soul now the real party people have been priced out
There's something funny about 'There's no VIP without a dance floor'.
Great doco. Thanks for the heads up Dwayne Muffin
The Legend Carl Cox🎉
Such a great documentary! I still love Ibiza. The world change and we cannot always look back in history but understand how it transformed to what it is today good or bad. Ibiza is sooo much more about clubbing. It has everything. Anywhere in the world you could have great food, great beaches and amazing clubbing all in one!
Great documentary!
Really enjoying the documentary and wish to DJ at Ibiza ,thanks pioneer DJ global.
Great doc and definitely a special island 🙌🏽
interesting documentary !
Cool documentary, thanks guys!
Best thing alpha theta have made in years! And no extra costs.
Vor vielen Jahreneinfach klasse auf Ibiza ❤😂
You go to Ibiza to show that you were there on your social media, in Berlin you go for the music!
Shoutout to whoever picked the music
Excelente documentário/trabalho 👌👏 . Como está Ibiza em 2024? !
Carl cox legend of space ibiza 🎛💃💖
Documental maravilloso... y necesario.
❤
Good documentary. I love the Ibiza vibe but the prices and too crowded venues suck the fun out the experience. I have not been going after covid and I can just imagine how frustrating it’s today.
Very good documentary ❤❤❤❤❤️
Great docu!
When i win the EuroMillions i promise to open up the greatest club in Ibiza with a 20 euro cover & 5 euro drinks ... I Promise 😁
...and free water fountains not $20 bottles water!
Might need to clear that with the club mafia first.
