Exactly! Not only that, the whole package is nice and extremely street-able. Plus the exhaust sounds great and if you want to keep that "looks like stock" under the hood but boost the performance it's a home run.
I drive my 2013 MR everyday. I don't do much of racing but in the canyons and on odd track days. I love it. Paddle shifting is something that grows on you. And boy do those gears change fast...
Yeah, I'm sick of hearing it to. People always praise muscle cars and Japanese cars for being incredible bang for buck performance but then bitch that the interior is cheap. No shit... the money goes into making the car as fast as possible not into the fucking cupholders or dashboard.
because the evo has been around since the 90's, so theres no reason to charge 40,000 just for the powertrain, and you'd think you'd get more luxury for the weight. yea, the interior isn't horrible, but its nothing special and sets the bar for basic, which narrows who will enjoy and like it.
Drake5153 no matter all the nit picky stuff, you shouldn't be coming to a car like this looking for a nice interior ...period. Your paying for pure performance and rally/road course pedigree.
my dream car is this car not to fast not to slow i dont care if it cant beat other race cars i want this car not to race i only enjoy the sound (sorry forspam)
I just got an Evo X MR and I'm in love!!! I traded in my IX MR and can say the X is a lot faster through the corners, thanks to the AYC. I think the best Evo ever is probably a EDM/JDM evo IX with AYC.
Drove the STi and The Evo before purchasing a 14 GSR a month ago. Got the touring package (Sunroof, leather seats, all that good stuff) and i absolutely love it. All i have is a catback exhaust, intake, and Accessport tune and im making almost 300 at the wheels on a stage 1 shelf tune. The STi is nice, but as every single comparison review out there will tell you, the STi is more the daily car. It's not as rough on the road, its more quiet, and comfortable. But the Evo in terms of performance, there is absolutely no comparison. The AWD is better, the grip is better. taking a corner in the STi and in the Evo are like night and day. The Evo runs rings around the evo in terms on handling and performance. I didn't come from a BMW so i don't mind the rouge ride. So if you want a comfortable daily thats AWD and fun to play with, get the STi. If you want an all out race car that can corner better than cars 3x the price (Evo X can corner better than a F400) then get the Evo.
I want one so bad after watching you tear up the canyon roads in that beast! The exterior color is beautiful also. I must own this car. It looks so bad-ass from any angle! Great video, man!!
I do remember the last generation EVO MR having a close ration 6 speed, but there were a great deal of complaints from owners complaining that the 6 speed was not strong enough to deal with certain horsepower ranges. This was a conversation that I was constantly engaged in as I was deciding between the EVO and the STI at that time. This theory was reinforced by the fact that Mitsubishi has continued to put the 5 speed in the EVO since then, and now use paddle shift 6 speeds in the new MR only.
Cool Video. I'm an enthusiast & own a Gray 2011 Evo X GSR. To answer your question about the 5 speed, the model you drove was the Evo X GSR (Grand Sport Rally). Mitsubishi asked pro rally drivers which transmission they liked better for rally, the 5 speed won, so Mitsubishi followed their advice. Plus the 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) of the Evo X MR (Mitsubishi Racing). Mitsubishi said it can't handle the abuse of pro racing, they said for racing get the Evo X GSR.
I like the STI, I currently have a 1996 WRX STI type RA and it is a blast since this beast was set up for rallying, its undercarriage was reinforce and has metal plates protecting crucial areas. It has a reinforce gear box/ short gear ratios/ no air bags/ no insulation/bigger turbos/ momo steering wheel/ quick steering and etc. But I drove an evo 3, 5 and 6 also, and they are beasts on the touge, they're rather finicky to tune but once u get them right goddamn... They will smoke every cars.
It's a sedan but you're paying for engine power and lots of other stuff. You can go to the supermarket with your mom and you can smoke kids with their Hondas at night. If that's not a perfect mix, I don't know what is.
keep it stock, periodic maintenance will see it easily clock over 300,000 miles like some of the members on the evo forums :) If you want to keep it for a few years and sell then feel free to mod that bitch :D
I always get so jealous when I watch these videos and see people commenting that they just got a new Evo. I've wanted one ever since it's release :( A friend of mine got a Ralliart a while back and let me drive in it just over a week ago. It was such a nice car and I want an Evo so much more than before now.
BigLeprichaun The ralliart is nice, but for only a few thousand more, the Evo is just a lot more car. Just keep saving and searching around for a good deal. I drove a '96 camry for like 5 years before finally getting my Evo lol.
Yup, you haven't driven an Evo until, well, you drive an Evo lol... I bought an 09 Ralliart cuz I was on a budget at the time. I tuned it, beefed up the wheel size and tire width, dropped it, did everything I could to try and get closed to an Evo. On its last dyno it gave me 269whp. Then after 5k later, I decided to trade up for an Evo X GSR... Dude, bone stock, the Evo is still a completely different car. Those who call this car shit or whatever on UA-cam are just mad little wannabes with no money to afford one or simply underage without a license. Go get one when you get the chance, I guarantee you'll fking love the car to death ;)
Jaziel Cueto Haha again I'm so jealous right now. Problem is I'm only 18 and trying to get a job. I won't be able to afford one for quite a long time. Then to add to that, in Australia I'm not even allowed to drive one for a bit over 3 years. There is an Evo just about half a kilo from my house and it's being sold right now for $40,000. No mods, still only 30,000km, GSR and the perfect blue colour. *I should clarify that a brand new Evo costs $60,000 in Australia.
Essentially it is. The stock evo x's AWHP (again AT WHEEL.. i cannot emphasize that enough) is around 240-255 depending what type of dyno you're using. Some read lower and some higher. RRE uses dynapack.
It's true modern cars like this can make an average driver seem above average; however, put an above average driver in this car and you'll have an absolute nightmare to deal with at the track.
There are a couple reasons for the five speed. First off it weighs less than a six speed. Second Mitsubishi found that in higher power applications the 6 speeds tended to break more than the five speeds due to the parts being less robust from trying to pack another gear and set of synchros into roughly the same amount of space. They knew their audience and that people bought these cars to tune so they built a car that was conducive to that end.
I think the reason it has a 5-speed manual is because they intended the car to have the twin clutch 6-speed as the primary transmission and the manual is just an afterthought for the die hard manual trans fans. I too would like a proper performance 6-speed manual though.
Nice to see a review of the Evo 10 in the perfect environment for the car - a twisty, bumpy mountain road. AKA: Rally Car Territory. My Evo 10 has a similar setup with about 380 HP to the wheels and I absolutely love driving that car. Yes, the interior is plastic, yes the car has five speeds instead of six. Yes, that's exactly the way I want it because no other car can keep up with it on a backroad. (STIs are quick cars, but they don't have Mitsu's sophisiticated AWD and I've never seen one on the backroads I drive.) And the Golf R simply doesn't have the speed for this league.
To answer your question on the 5 speed, the 5 speed is alot more reliable and efficient than a 6 speed. 6 speeds are easier to break, and also its better to spend more time in a gear making power, then spending time shifting. Amazing video, thanks for a great review. I also have the same color as the one in this video. Check out the video on my launch. Thanks
The main reason you'd go with a 5 speed is because you have a really broad power range so stretching it across longer gears makes sense (especially when you factor in the turbo lag that gets introduced every time you shift).
I don't know if there is a 6 speed manual Evo X, there probably isn't, I'll need to do some research to find out. But I know for sure that the IX had a 6 speed manual available as well.
They used the 5 speed because the 6 speed isn't as strong. I have a GSR and yeah, it could definitely use a 6th gear, the ratios are decent, I just wish 4th gear was a bit taller.
The evo 10 is a calmed down bigger brother of the smaller more nimble 8s and 9s. In my opinion the 9 is the perfect balance of the raw feeling an 8 gives you and comparable comfort level of the 10. In the 8s and 9s they ACD ecu does a lot less for you that in the 10's AYC. But he is 100% correct when he says approaching a corner at high speeds isn't scary because you know it can handle it, then when you look down and see you're doing 80 it's like O____O
No one buys an Evo for the damn interior.. If Mitsubishi wanted better trim and all that, it would take $1000 away from the rest of the car (i.e. cheaper brakes, cheaper wheels). I doubt Mitsubishi wants to add even another $10 onto the cost of the Evo. Look at what happened to the Supra TT when a fully equipped one got past $55,000.
fucking lucky bastard. im so envious. congrats. i used to own an evo8MR and i sold it to pay tuition, but one day i will buy another evo no matter what.
And ps. road race engineer, they are the shit. I got my clutch done there and got many friends that go there that have and evo X or gts, they live up to their name. LEGIT.
I have no clue where you got that number but you can get a turbo back exhaust for an sti for about $1000 (Invidia N1 plus Invidia catless down pipe) How do i know? I have one.
tomei cat back is about 1000 or more after taxes, duty, shiping and handling, downpipe tomei is like 450 plus all the bs and headers are 995 plus the bs again. I don't make up bullshit

$40,000 Only? WOW it's cheap!! In my country, Malaysia, the price is RM300,000!! This car is very hard to afford it...lucky for those who already owned this car..
I recall reading the 5 speed is more robust and lighter weight than a six speed. On top of that how do you get buyers to pay more? Only offer a 6 speed in a twin clutch nicer equipped model.
love this review! finally
1. A car reviewer that can drive properly
2. Evo X review that is NOT the MR
Great job man! *subscribes*
that is a real car for real drivers
Thanks so much...nice words like that help me keep it going!
Why does everyone complain about the dam interior? Its a sports car not luxury like a bmw... mine is not bad and the navi makes it look way better
too much plastic
Wow you guys must drive cars with gold interior or something... all cars have plastic in the interiors.
Yeah, I'm sick of hearing it to. People always praise muscle cars and Japanese cars for being incredible bang for buck performance but then bitch that the interior is cheap. No shit... the money goes into making the car as fast as possible not into the fucking cupholders or dashboard.

my dream car is this car
not to fast not to slow
i dont care if it cant beat other race cars i want this car not to race i only enjoy the sound (sorry forspam)
vittorio midjo it surely a beauty
6 years late to reply but the evo X is a dream car of mine too, glad to see people with similar tastes!
That is spot on! I have at least a half-dozen friends that have swapped there 6-speed manual in their EVO 9 MR with a 5-speed unit.
I just got an Evo X MR and I'm in love!!! I traded in my IX MR and can say the X is a lot faster through the corners, thanks to the AYC. I think the best Evo ever is probably a EDM/JDM evo IX with AYC.
Nice video!! I bought me an Evo X a few months ago and have loved every minute of it since! I look forward to throwing some mods on it. :)

Exhaust, tune and a decent clutch/flywheel combo will put you in the low 12sec quarter with daily driving/winter driving fun. Love my Evo x!
I got mine brand new fully loaded a month ago and I love it.
This thing looks like a fucking MONSTER on those canyon roads
Ach limed Agree
I want one so bad after watching you tear up the canyon roads in that beast! The exterior color is beautiful also. I must own this car. It looks so bad-ass from any angle! Great video, man!!
Came to watch this video after watching it years ago. Now I have this car and other! 🙌
Congrats! It's a great vehicle.
Agreed!

Nice. But I'm not too crazy about the evo10. My favorite is the 9.
The Evo always delivers mind numbing badass fun on any road! :D
FANTASTIC review...

It's a really car
Great road test! I always look forward to your videos.
this is the best car ever my father bought one and im addicted to it this is by far the best Mitsubishi ever
I got a 2014 silver gsr a few months ago after wanting this car forever.
I fucking love it so far, so much fun, and its still bone stock (atm).
keep it stock, periodic maintenance will see it easily clock over 300,000 miles like some of the members on the evo forums :) If you want to keep it for a few years and sell then feel free to mod that bitch :D

How so?
Average driver burns the clutch in a month
I love how on over 3/4 of a full tank the meter said 100 miles to empty!
Im glad somebody put into words what i
was thinking.
There are a couple reasons for the five speed. First off it weighs less than a six speed. Your great man ! Top 2 reviewer for sure on my list
Nice review! Cant wait for mine to arrive.
its a race car, luxury don't matter
6:26 that expression says EVERYTHING! :D

That colour O_O
Thanks for the tip, i'll check that out
He's the Stig's American cousin twice removed...and he's real fast!
Best Car Ever
the nine its just so damn perfect, one day i will have one fq360, for sure!
Good review. Still can't decide between evo and sti

The main reason you'd go with a 5 speed is because you have a really broad power range so stretching it across longer gears makes sense (especially when you factor in the turbo lag that gets introduced every time you shift).
Mike Welch the owner of Road Race Engineering tuned this particular vehicle. I am the other Evo tuner at the shop.
I'm not sure about the X, but with the VIII and IX, the 5 speed gearbox was stronger and could handle more power and torque compared to the 6 speed.
Devil Slayer Gray the x is 5speed, there is no manual 6speed for evo's.
I don't know if there is a 6 speed manual Evo X, there probably isn't, I'll need to do some research to find out. But I know for sure that the IX had a 6 speed manual available as well.
The evo x gsr is a 5 speed but if u get the MR its a 6 speed
FaMe1xInSaNe x MR is 6 speed automatic
Damian Pedrosa the evo 9 mr is 6 speed bro
They used the 5 speed because the 6 speed isn't as strong. I have a GSR and yeah, it could definitely use a 6th gear, the ratios are decent, I just wish 4th gear was a bit taller.
it would be awsome if you have the body of the evo 10 with a nissan gtr 34 engine in it! THAT WOULD BE MY DREAM CAR :)
you should know the name of the engine in your dream car
who said i dont know the name? i thought it wasnt needed to mension, but especially for you..... RB26DETT....greetz.
Such a fun road
Love My Evo X
!!
Bro this guys ammo ..evoz r ruthless ..
Awesome review!
Awesome video!
im getting mine tomorrow im going to put a video up!!!
why doesn't he make more vids?
idk if its been said yet but the reason is cause of the EVO heritage look back 2 all the racing evo for rallying it was all based off 5 speed trany
The evo 10 is a calmed down bigger brother of the smaller more nimble 8s and 9s. In my opinion the 9 is the perfect balance of the raw feeling an 8 gives you and comparable comfort level of the 10. leather recaro seats are optional lol
awesome video!
thank you, very good video
Where can I go to get my car tuned and badass looking
fucking lucky bastard. im so envious. congrats. i used to own an evo8MR and i sold it to pay tuition, but one day i will buy another evo no matter what.

Beautiful car n color its awesome😍😍😍😍😍
wow! awesome evo mate! whats the name of the color?
Fantastic!!
this guy looks like vin desile in 2050 😁
5 speed stronger .. this is it
Just got a brand new (22 miles) 2014 white EVO gsr (base model) for 30,999. Out the door 34k. Man, I did good
can get 2015s with 15 miles 31k out the door but not bad
Vince the MR or GSR?
That's really good!
I prefer the 2014 because of the Recaro seats.
I can get a 2015 wicked white GSR 5,000 Miles on it for 20,000
Very cool car!
i find it funny that this car is for off road and it does soo good on the road
April 2016, where the **** are you? Cant wait for my final edition. >_
So...have you got one yet? ;)
I'm going to get one of these one day. It's been my dream for 5 years to get an Evo X.
one day i shall have one, well this or an sti, doesnt matter!
I love sti and evo
3000$ for 100awhp is a steal! a turbo back exhaust on a sti is around 3000$ lol
Nathan Daignault A turboback exhaust doesn't consist of headers, that would be a header back exhaust. Why would you choose the most expensive exhaust to prove the video. The Akrapovic exhaust for the evo x cost $3600 and that's only a catback. Try knowing what you're talking about before you try to make someone feel dumb,
Handmade Nameless Performance turboback with all their features was a bit more than 2K. And that's because I can afford it (would be cheaper if you just want performance) and it was shipped from South US to Northern Canada.
Next I will have my interior redone since this will be my winter car. lol
Nathan Daignault $3000 for 100 whp is not that good. I got about 150 whp out of my bmw for $2000
$40,000 Only? WOW it's cheap!! In my country, Malaysia, the price is RM300,000!! This car is very hard to afford it...lucky for those who already owned this car..
where I live it's only 30'459$
Goth Life you by Cerritos Mitsubishi? Lol
i bet those proxes r1r helped out a lot.
u r a good driver
Great car! I just wish that it came with a 6 speed manual versus a 5 speed.
0:41 looks at that paint scratches :-(
I recall reading the 5 speed is more robust and lighter weight than a six speed. On top of that how do you get buyers to pay more? Only offer a 6 speed in a twin clutch nicer equipped model.
Waiting on my 2014 evo x gsr cosmic blue. Basically fully loaded :D who is stoked now!?
Do you know more details about his cam setup?
@autoedit
Would be nice if you could manage to catch and test a STI. ;)
Also you should get a 2015 sti and a 2015 evo and do road tests
Dream car
I go for that 2013 subaru wrx sti!
Evos would like so damn nice if there was a coupe model, the sedan is also looks amazing
what color is the evo awsome paint
Can you compare the new 5.0s on the same road and compare the two ;)
Evos are tight
You need a better camera for that drone or whatever you were using for sky views
