    I left an 09 BMW M3 behind and bought a brand new 2011 Evo X GSR and put about $5,000 in modifications into it. The M3 was good fun but wasn't anywhere near as competent or sure-footed in the mountains and twisties.
    My GSR is semi retired in a climate controlled garage space alongside my 93' RX-7 Turbo. They get to play on perfect weather track days!

      GS Alien that’s the awd confidence right there. I found the e9x bmws were solid chassis and handled well if you drove it properly but I’ve yet to really drive a evo so I can’t compare the two. Kind of surprised to be quite honest you liked the evo more than the m3 but then again I don’t know what you put into it in terms of mods. Solid collection of cars tho dude

      AWD fucking sucks period. Have fun with three differential fluid changes and over $1,400 just labour on a clutch. Yea, and no EVO owner ever changes their own shit, they don't even change their own oil. FWD motor layout AWD electronic horseshit is the worst car to work on period.

    I drove one of these (a 2008 standard UK specification model as opposed to a 2015 Final Edition) back to back with a 2008 Impreza WRX STI on a track at the end of last year, and the Lancer Evolution was much, much better in every way. The Impreza may have been slightly faster in a straight line, but in terms of styling, interior quality, gearchange, easy of driving and handling, the Evo X was simply miles better.

    The Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X and 9/8/7 was always sharper and faster around the tarmac/asphalt track corners than the equivalent year Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Was always a great performance value much like the much more expensive Nissan GT-R was back in 2008. Comparing this Mitsubishi Evo to the newest Honda Civic Type R FK8 is always interesting because it’s a AWD to FWD comparison but there’s something to be said about these manual Japanese turbo-charged machines that abandoned their rally aspirations for utter track supremacy in a family grocery getter shape with 4 doors and genuinely useable rear seats.

    The CA-spec Final Editions had the best standard options of the lot. Though it's mostly cosmetic. Compared to the US, the Canadian FEs still had Recaros (leather + Alcantara mix) , BBS' (but with gold - lettered center caps instead of silver), 10"subs with premium (amplified) Fosgate head unit, and sunroof. Basically Evo MR bits sans chrome window trim, aluminum door still plates, and cup holder cover lid. Performance is 100% the same (Don't recall if the shocks are MR Bilsteins or regular MMC GSRs, though I believe even that is of MR fare.)

      @freshjive818 5 років тому

      If you want the best possible EVO experience then drive the early models. from my experiences the 4B11T hasn't been as much as a hit with tuners as the 4G63 with a few horror stories however the 4B11T is a newer build where as the 4G63 has been around a long time. Either way the lighter more nimble earlier cars will always drive and look better plus the early 5 speed was a much stronger box, stock for stock there is no contest.

    • @RealAnthonyJones
      @RealAnthonyJones 5 років тому +1

      @@freshjive818 there are alot of 4b11t builds running around. The 5speed in the x is good to 800hp which the majority of owners wont build for. Any evo from the 6 and later all handle extremely well. In the US the X outhandles the 9 because the US 9 doesnt have all the handling options from the factory. Every motor has horror stories. That variable depends on the tuner, not the motor.

      @@RealAnthonyJones in the UK the 10 has not been so much of a hit, it's not a bad car at all im not saying that but quite often there are complaints and people swapping for earlier cars, from what i have gathered aswell with my experience being in various EVO and JDM clubs that most have found they are just not as raw, designed more to fit the US market as mitsubishi were so desperate to sell cars for there dwindling US sales which made it a heavier car than its predecessor's, there are improvements in areas but there are also issues that shouldn't be there for a newer model which is frustrating and disappointing, one step forward and 2 steps back. Many people are still punching holes through the block having major problems with centre diffs, premature AYC failure (much worse than predecessors) clunky and failing SST's (however 5 speed is still good) over 90% suffering from bad shocks and bad build quality in general, it begs the question why buy a 10 over say a 9? if your from the US you probably wouldn't know just how good the 5 and 6 are and as for handling, every single evolution model handled extremely well but the 4, 5 and 6 will always have the edge due to there lighter weight combined with those sophisticated AYC differentials and were closer to the racing car they were bred from with the 5 having the best racing history, they look better, go better and have that rally history which adds a special factor to them. 1 to 9 were all fantastic models but the 10 was just a bit of a disappointment.

    I have owned most Subaru models mainly the rare jdm spec c and S cars R type r a ect . 90s to 2011 .
    I now have a Jdm import manual Evo x
    what a car is all I can say it needs a few mods and a map to come alive.
    whoever says it’s not playful is lying it’s an incredible chassis, it’s a heavy car that hides its weight like a magic trick,fit a nice big rear arb and turn the assists off and tell me another car that dances like a 10 this car was too far ahead of its time for its own good the recognition will come and values will rocket in these coming years 5 speed for me personally is the car to have.
    it was and still is the best car of that era it was never a GTR and lost its recognition due to the R35 being launched at this time which was a incredible car on a super car slaying level . Yaris GR is years later and is getting the recognition it deserves the X did not sadly but I think it will .

    Adore both cars but I'm an Impreza man (currently STi Type RA) having owned several of both during my years living in Japan. However, it does somewhat bother me that people stack an Evo up against a WRX; they should really be compared with an STi, and preferably a JDM car with equivalent power. An EVO is always going to be stacks better than a WRX in pretty much every area, as it should be.

    You're one of the UA-camrs in that weird area where you'd obviously easily get a job on TV were it not for the date! In 2019 you can't get a TV job even if you're the obviously excellent LindyBeige, who by all rights shook have a permanent BBC presence and easily in the 90's would have become a national institution! Horrid histories would have been his baby.

    What could other youtubers do to match this video ? First, try sticking more cams all over the car. Easy, having multiple POVs is a piece of cake (even though very few "London Boys" do). Second ? Well, sorry for being rude, but this is the difference between Jeremy Clarkson and Chris Harris (/May/Hammond): JC is a writer/author when CH is a driver/drifter: If you can't verbalize what it feels like to drive a car, then when your drift is done, you're out of steam. Should a 2015 car really be classed as old school? Are you saying this simply because of the engines character? Is it genuinely laggy like something such as a YB turbo in a Cosworth or a Rover T-series turbo in the 2-4-6-8 hundred series cars? Had Mitsubishi not developed forced induction engines a bit beyond the old school by 2015 just in the course of building whatever else was in their line up at that time? Love the vid by the way (as always). Keep em coming.

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  5 років тому

      In 2015 this was already a fairly old car. It drives like one too and that's not a bad thing. It does boost like an older car too - delivering boost higher in the rev range unlike modern cars which tend to give it up earlier

    • @jackthehat8593
      @jackthehat8593 5 років тому

      The T16 was not laggy at all. It had a tiny turbo that was on song very early in the rev range (boost threshold) that when you changed gear it was back on boost very quickly. The T3 turbo on the YBT was more laggy and had a higher boost threshold but wasn't that bad.
      Don't confuse lag with boost threshold.

    As for the question, if you could have the Subaru engine and 6 speed box in an Evo, that'd be perfect. The Subaru has so much more character and the gearbox felt unbreakable.
