  • Never owned a Ps4 before so this is the first time attempting to fix an analogue stick. I'm trying to just replace the sensor wheel instead of the entire analogue stick.

    Easily one of the most challenging/annoying peripherals to take apart. Glad I fixed it, but the way my sensor bar came apart made this a very trying experience. Keep note of where your sensor bar connects and that the connector goes through a hole to reach the connector.

    From my experience rather cleaning the inside of the Orange potenciometer does the most to eliminate stick drift than changing that small metal part

      Hi there. I agree with you. Off camera I did clean it and tried with the original metal part. Unfortunately that didn’t work. If you look closely at the thumbnail you can see why. There is small crack in the white plastic part which causes the issue in my case. Very hard to see.
      Thanks for your addition! I appreciate it

      @@SirCreepyPastaBlack Nothing much to it. It's just cleaning with an earth as you can see at 5:22. Do use pure alcohol as possible. Like 99% and not the ones you buy at a local drugstore with 70%. Those have too much water content for electronics.
      And maybe blow first with some compressed air. without opening the controller. Move the stick around and blow it along the sides.

    Thanks for the nice and detailed disassemble video. I just cleaned up the potentiometer's resistor with alcohol.Moving contact (this round metal thingy on the video you replaced) was cleaned using specialized contact cleaning liquid. That cured enormous sudden jitter I had.
    One of them on the same joystick was ok while other was severely oxidized, for no obvious reason.
    As for the fix itself, I believe that replacing moving contact itself doesn't have a lot of sense. After the resistor (that black circle you clear with alcohol) will wear off, cleaning won't help anymore and complete potentiometer replacement (i.e. soldering) will be required.

      I agree that at some point replacing the analogue stick is the best way.
      My potential meter was nog only dirty btw but also broken. The white plastic containing the metal thing had a crack in it so only cleaning didn’t help in my case.
      Thanks for you addition! It will help others as the DualShocks are getting older and older :

      Yeah it does need some blind finesse. Put the shells off put on each other and just plug it in blindly. But don’t force it!

    • @HomeLeHat
      @HomeLeHat  15 днів тому +1

      If you replaced the entire analogue stick and only the sensor. Then I would say there is something wrong with the motherboard. Probably that is something that isn’t cheap to fix

  • @NotoriousNickNorris
    @NotoriousNickNorris 6 місяців тому

    That disc is not the sensor. Nor is it why you get drift. That is merely the control contact to the other side of the potentiometer. The tip on that disc makes contact and rubs the other side. The wear it causes on the other side is the problem.

    • @NotoriousNickNorris
      @NotoriousNickNorris 6 місяців тому

      Cleaning is why you regained some control, but it was a temporary fix only. It merely bought you time. Replacing that disc accomplished nothing. You'd only need to address that component if it was struggling to make contact to complete the circuit. Then an adjustment is all that would have been necessary. Bend the contract point out a tad more.

      I think you are talking about the potentiometers the green boxes not the white sensors. The problem seems to be with the green boxes mostly if you clean it the dust can cause voltage interferences so cleaning helps only short term. The green boxes they eventually get tears or scrapes on the inside leading to voltage interferences causing drift. It’s an outdated technology and needs to replaced in new controllers!

  • @DaFullo
    @DaFullo Рік тому

    Oh hey nice video, haven't opened mine but had the same issue but the drift is not fully straight to one side but slightly tilted to other side as well does that mean I have to open and clean or possibly replace both vertical and horizontal potentiometers?

    • @HomeLeHat
      @HomeLeHat  Рік тому

      Hi thanks! I would first try to clean it without opening the controller by blowing compressed air around the stick. If nothing changes and it still looks upwards, then I would think you have a bigger problem than mine. Probably need to replace the entire analogue stick.

    Are you certain that it’s the sensor or the green boxes that get dust or tears or scrapes due to use? One of them causes voltage interference leading drift so which should be replacing the entire potentiometer or just the sensor?

    • @HomeLeHat
      @HomeLeHat  Рік тому

      Ah yes the sensor is just this way. The curve in the metal on top is designed this way. At 5:08 you can see two of the sensors side by side. As you can see they are both the same.
      And placing into the analogue stick housing they 'bent' parts goes on top and 'towards' the stick.
