Guys, I will make a video about how to repair an extremely sensitive and tiny piece of technology, but I'll constantly keep my camera out of focus? Okay? good.
@@ejaazhussain2324 i was very careful to put the white things back in facing the same way they were, and my right analog stick is pushing to the left constantly. i have to push it to the right to stop moving. i really hate ps4 controllers, i never had to take apart a ps1, 2, or 3 controller to clean it out, they were apparently designed to keep dust out much better than the modern controllers.
I did not have a drift problem, but at full amplitude of my left stick, I did not get to maximum speed. I cleaned the forward axis sensor as shown here, and that solved the problem. Now, the DIY is not for everyone who has not got a minimum of dexterity, and you also need to invest in getting some proper tools too. I highly recommend you purchase tweezers used by those building models, a set of small headed cruciform screw drivers and a tool to pry open the two shell parts of the controller's body. All those who ended up with an out of control dual shock have most likely messed up their axial sensors. Either because they did not put the little disc holding the contacts properly, or they have damaged it, or they have not snapped it back in place fully. I have cleaned the two joysticks both axis, and my controller works perfectly. The most arduous part is to reconnect the touch pad to the PCB as you have to feed the connect ribbon through the holes. All the rest is a walk in the park.
All i did is opened green one for me its orange took of little disc clewned the inside of green and put back disc and closed green (dont rip it off the green one)
This worked. Like everyone else says, make sure you put the white disc back in the same way it came out and not upside down. I paid attention when I took mine out and got it back in right the first time. Controller works great. I was able to get rid of the upward drift. Thanks
Im having severe upwards drift and cleaning the right joystick with rubbing alcohol and compressed air has not worked. I am going to try this tutorial as a last resort. Can you please specify what you mean by the "white disc"? And what part of the video does it show it?
There was a drift on my analog stick. After watching this video and fixed my controller, I can happily say that the drift is no more there... ...because the analog stick is completely dead
PL8YR oh ok, my problem is when I move my right joystick to the left, the sensitivity is slower than when I move it to the right, is this called a drift too?
Alright! Few tips to clear it all up. First! Be very, very gentle to not snap the green cover of the sensor completely off the motherboard! You will probably damage your controller permanently that way. Second! Be sure to put the sensor wheel you find inside, the right way up! It's that flatter edge of it, that is supposed to go up! If you turn it the wrong way, the issue will get Much Worse and the controller will become Completely Unusable. Three! If you did all that correctly, but can't push and snap the green cover back into it's place, see what is causing it. On one side of that green box, there are three small, plastic pieces, that are supposed to snap into their individual holes in the metal plate. The lowest one is probably the one that can't fit. It's a pretty flimsy plastic, so you can probably bend/completely break off the very tip of it. That green tube shape. There is only one per sensor, on one of the sides. If you bend it correctly or break it off (with a small screwdriver or something similar), it should let you put the whole thing back together. The video did not help me with getting rid of the drift, because one of the sensor wheels is rusted and that's what is causing the problems, in my case. I ordered the part from the internet already. But still. Thanks for the video explaining how to take the controller apart! Really helped me along the way!
Thanx mate.. I had my white things in upside down.. its confusing as it looks like there ment to go in that way. As the bottem of the green thing is flat also
Honestly, this was probably the best tutorial out there. I successfully managed to break my sensors and have now wasted $50 dollars on a brand new controller. Preciate the love!

This worked for me. My controller was just 3 months old and I started noticing the left analog drift while playing COD Warzone. The drift became so annoying, I was so sure I needed to get a new controller, till I watched these videos and followed the steps, now everything is back to normal. Thank you. Note: after I coupled the controller back, I tested it, and it was worse than the initial state. It was as if the analog was pressed all the way to the left, and I couldn't do anything. Immediately, I opened it up again, and realized I had placed the small white stuff near the analog sensor upside down.... I flipped it the other way, and everything was perfect. Hope this helps others.
Heads up for anyone about to do this. Be sure to place those little white pieces back into the sensors EXACTLY how they came out. I accidentally placed on wrong and had to disassemble again because left was up. Also, you don’t have you use alcohol, a drug q tip is just fine, but even then you don’t have to open that sensor box, I just used an air compressor and bossed it.
There is an easier way of blowing into it with videos on YT . Pullingup on analogs blowing then pushing down blowing around. Then hold L3 and R3 down 30 seconds, Rotate clockwise both 5 times and reverse 5 Times then repeat Holding 30 seconds.
For anyone trying to pull out the section of where the white disk goes, be gentle with pulling the green part because I wasn't careful and the sauder part that's at the bottom of the green part can detach easily and can cause your controller drift to be worse and unrepairable
Yeup, this happened to me. I was trying to be super careful, but the green part wouldn’t release. I used just a little more force and that’s what happened.
That green part is soldered into the board correct? Atleast mine are on my ps3 controller. I Was afraid to detach those in fear of wrecking the solder joints. I may have to try and solder in a new analog stick if there's no luck cleaning the original.
This is a great tutorial, I fixed my controller and it feels like a new one once again... I think everyone is just putting the white discs in the wrong way because I had the same problem the first time and then I flipped them around the second time I took my controller apart and everything works so smoothly again (this isn't a sarcastic comment) Just turn the white discs until the joystick works again, after you clean it obviously
Switching the "white things" does have a set position they need to be in. There is a metal piece on one side that stick out, that side needs to always be at the top. Also, please do not use finger nail polish remover on your controller. Use actual rubbing alcohol as nail polish remover can damage the sensors themselves
Chris riddle thank you I’ve taken part my controller 7 times and fixed it on the 7th try cus I saw your comment you’ve saved me from buying a new one I love you and I will gladly give you my girlfriend
I've seen this video enough times to do this flawlessly yet I still find it comforting to come back and watch every time I open my controller. thanks buddy
Pro Tip: If at all possible do NOT pull off those green pieces unless you feel you absolutely need to. The little latches on them are extremely fragile and break easily. Alternatively you can just move the analog stick to the side and blow against where those green pieces are to clean them. I did this and my controller is working great now. Ruined another controller though trying to pull those green pieces off.
Tim, thank you for your tutorial. With your guide, I was able to fix 2 ps4 controllers with drifting issues. Side note- one of my newer ps4 controllers I ordered directly from Playstation, and when I opened it, the plastic bracket was held together with a screw that was too small. Someone at the factory used a piece of paper as a gasket to secure the small screw. Instead of putting the paper and screw back the way it was, I wrapped dental floss around the screw before installing it. It worked like a charm and was more secure.
Exunis well actually they kinda do, it’s either they make a hissing sound or reset sound. Kinda weird but either way I agree I guess idk I’m fuckin retarded
Worked for me, thanks!. The 2 white sensors in each of the green analogue bits can also be cleaned (carefully) and when you look at them closely you'll see they have exposed coils on them with one side raised. When putting them back in the green bits, make sure the raised part of the coil is pointing up/outwards with the exposed coils going in to the green bits. Be very careful with the green bits when opening, as they have easy to break clips on each side. When closing them back up, squeeze them shut from the bottom and clip them back in, so they are flush
Thank you bro , you just saved me 60 €! I did everything but it didn't function at the end , I saw your comment and did what you said about the position of small sensors , put it all together now it's working like new! I can't thank you enough bro , much love ❤
@@ginjopowder keep doing it until they're lined up. I used a small jewellery screwdriver. Drop the sensor in the green housing bit (exposed coil going in to the green housing, with the raised part of the coil pointing outwards/ upwards) and use the screwdriver in the slot on the white sensor to turn it to line up with the tab on the sticks.
Worked a treat! I will note, however, that since this video came out (or maybe my controller is weird), the pieces are colored differently. Also my buttons never fell out, so there were less pieces and because of that, it felt easier than the video made it seem. If you're trying this BE CAREFUL! I recommend taking pictures as you disassemble so that you know whats supposed to happen as you put it back together.
Thank you so much! It improved my drift a lot, I don't know what to do to get it perfect but I can now play. I think a lot of people here are joking about the tutorial.
I followed your guide and the hardest part was opening the green cases. Trying to pry those open was nerve wracking. I had to apply a little bit more force. Really helpful stuff, worked like a charm afterwards. THANK YOU
Trying to help someone else out At first it didn't work for me, my character just spun around. Then i found that it's important which way you put in those little white sensor things. If you see on one end of the white sensors, there is small tags/fins those need to face down and the round shape up. Hope i could help. Tell me if you need better explanation
I apologize, for leaving you a hateful comment at first. This actually did fix my drift and I figured out why my controller wouldn't turn back on. I had the ribbon power strip in backwards, I think it would of helped if you showed the placing of that cord a little better or perhaps explained the connection more thoroughly. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO, IT DOES WORK. To everyone leaving hateful comments, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS.
It's because he's done it before and you haven't. If your pad has never been taken apart before and you aren't certain of what you're doing, it will be more difficult.
First time is always difficult cause you feel like you're gonna break it when opening it lol. If you take your controller apart a lot its much easier than the first time you do it with a new controller or one that hasn't been opened before.
And That's Why You don't do it the first time watching it. I replayed it like 2-3 times. Watched other related videos as well. Really sorry for you loss bro. RIP backlight lol
Well i read the comments they were very negative but i took the risk, it worked!! Yes it fixed my drift and it’s awesome but the blue light in the back of the controller doesn’t light up anymore, I think i broke the first cable that you remove when you take the controller apart, sucks but at least i can play now, was gonna pay 20$ for fixing it, thank you mr youtuber. Edit: i just found out that the light cable is also responsible of charging, my controller won’t charge anymore 😭
My controller works great now. Drift is completely gone. I followed everything step by step. These morons on here crying about their controllers not working probably put the white discs in wrong. Pay attention to the shape and how they sit. Thanks for the video. I was able to save my 500M edition controller
For all y’all who said it made it worse it made mine worse too, but when you remove the sensor to clean it, take out the white part and clean that by itself and when I put it back I was fckn surprised at how brand new it was no drift at all bro thank u you a real one🙏🏽
@@Nathan-pe9hx I opened up the sensors on the inside of the joysticks and made sure to dry them off eventually it did end up working you just have to be very clean and make sure to get everything , dry everything off when youre done.
Hey man I’m having the same problem, I don’t know if it has something to do with putting it back or what? Did you just make sure everything was very dry or am I putting it back wrong. I could really use your help thanks 👍
Thank you! I bought a brand new white DualShock off of Amazon and both analog sticks had drifting right out of the package. (Character would stop walking randomly) now it works as it should, I appreciate your time in making the video
B3RED make sure you opened it properly. It does take a bit of pressure to close tho just be careful. I found that pushing the sides of it instead of the top allowed it to close easier. It also won’t close if you haven’t aligned the white sensors properly
Its way easier to fix a ps2 controller. I was repairing my own at 12 years old without a problem. These days, there are WAY smaller components and more technical issues to deal with
@@saladking4758 i don’t know if it’s supposed to be so fragile but I didn’t want to risk peeling that little sensor piece back any more, so I peeled it as far as I felt comfortable and got an air gun and blew the inner round piece. Didn’t make a difference except I was able to control the drift alittle better, ended up getting a new controller, I may go back and peel them further back to take the actual piece out and see if it works but for now I got this new controller so I’m not too worried ab it

yup broke my controller. im really good with this type of stuff and was super careful. i broke my left analog completely, and my right analog drifts more than ever.
When I first watch the video I thought I might give it a go, then after reading your comment and many more, I might just buy a new one but with extended warranty this time. Thanks UPDATE 2/1/2020 : gave it a go and it worked!
so just finished trying this out, it worked perfectly, probably took me closer to half an hour and made sure to be delicate. Follow his instructions and it works. If not you probably had another issue. Didnt know dust can cause so many problems.
Thanks for the help! 😁 Super grateful 🙏 After following through with the tutorial I ended up snapping the motherboard and just throwing it all in the bin. We need more people like you 👍
From my experience, two misguided points to add. Don’t pull the battery cable when disconnecting the battery. You must pull the male end of the connection which has the cables attached. Secondly. When opening the green sensor box. You should only open one at a time. If you open both at the same time and move the analog stick, there is a possibility of knocking of the alignment of the analog stick.
Came back here to say Thanks, it fixed the problem. Those who are having trouble either you didnt do exactly what he said or you have a different problem
lmaoo big facts ive been doing this trick for a long time and it was always working, people probably not even gentle with it and snatching everything lmao

thanks heaps! spent $5 for a tool kit at Bunnings and took less than 15minutes to fix. Much appreciated my controller went from shocking analog drift to none at all 👌🏽
Thanks! Before, I used to have a lot of stick drift. Now, however, my stick drift is even worse! I load into a game to make sure I didn't mess anything up, and what do I find? Now my character is a living helicopter! I don't stop spinning and I cant even move anymore. Also now my controller doesn't charge, and I am currently finding a replacement. Thanks a bunch!
he left a few things and after struggling for a day here’s a few tips: -make sure you keep the original sensors in their original places -DO NOT use to much rubbing of whatever you are using to clean this might damage it - be extra careful with the sensor and when putting them back in make sure the two little dots on the back match up with the two little dots on the inside -it will be fine
What is the proper way to do this? I wonder if I put mine in wrong because now my joysticks are all messed up. Up on the left stick goes down and there is still drift
I hope I can save someone, but if you see the way he was taking those white caps out of the green crates, **DO NOT DO THAT THE WAY HE DID IT! YOU MUST BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL TAKING THOSE OUT!** If anything, he made his stick drift worse because those springs attached to the white caps are important for stick drifts.

This is a great tutorial, I fixed my controller and it feels like a new one once again... I think everyone is just putting the white discs in the wrong way because I had the same problem the first time and then I flipped them around the second time I took my controller apart and everything works so smoothly again (this isn't a sarcastic comment) Just turn the white discs until the joystick works again, after you clean it obviously
so switching the two white things of every stick or turning them 180 degrees. Cuz I need to know.
Lmao that’s how I broke my first one
The ribbon cable?
Switching the "white things" does have a set position they need to be in. There is a metal piece on one side that stick out, that side needs to always be at the top. Also, please do not use finger nail polish remover on your controller. Use actual rubbing alcohol as nail polish remover can damage the sensors themselves
Chris riddle thank you I’ve taken part my controller 7 times and fixed it on the 7th try cus I saw your comment you’ve saved me from buying a new one I love you and I will gladly give you my girlfriend
Should we be taking technical advice from someone that seems to struggle with focusing a camera?
no. i’m stuck wit a broken controller
no
I've seen this video enough times to do this flawlessly yet I still find it comforting to come back and watch every time I open my controller. thanks buddy

This cleaning method actually fixed my stick drift, what’s the generation for your ps4 controller?
yo_pieru dunno but it’s fucked now
Yo if your controller got worse that’s your fault brother
Jordxn7 really? Thanks for letting me know
Tim, thank you for your tutorial.
Placed mines back together, the drifting had gotten worst. Guess I'll buy a new controller after this quarantine ends.
Amazon is a thing you know.
Same bruh I was expecting it to be fixed but it got worst.
Quarantine isn’t gonna be over for a while, I’d just go buy another one if I were you

@@alesandro1268 No problem. Glad it worked out for you.

@@ginjopowder keep doing it until they're lined up. I used a small jewellery screwdriver. Thank you for spotting this! You have saved a controller from being wasted.
Worked a treat! I will note, however, that since this video came out (or maybe my controller is weird), the pieces are colored differently. Also my buttons never fell out, so there were less pieces and because of that, it felt easier than the video made it seem.

U have to be gentle with it , i open my controllers n do this all the time .
