F*** Yeahhh The Wanderers & The Warriors two great old school classics filmed the same year 1979 2 Yrs before I was born My Mom saw both of the movies opening day when she was in College when 🎥 😎 🇺🇸👍🏽!!!!!!!!
One of the most underrated films ever, this is a classic, gets unfairly compared to the warriors which was itself a great film but this in my opinion is the better film overall, a true coming of age drama which never gets the credit it deserves, yet everyone I know who's seen this gem loves it
@@MrGurke-we9oe underrated is a wrong word to use, underseen would be more apt, as I say everyone I know who's seen this has nothing but high praise for the film, it's just not seen by nearly enough people, especially this side of the pond
I don’t think the film was marketed extensively in 1979. It played for a few weeks in movie theaters and was forgotten until 1980 or 81 when HBO showed it and it developed a following
Wikipedia stated the film sold well in Theaters upon release. But I do remember as a kid in middle school around late 1979-early1980ish it got very popular on HBO
They used to play it on Encore 20 years ago all the time, but it was censored. They didn't bleap out the cuss words, just muted them when cuss words were spoken.
The head of the Baldies, "Terror" was an opera singer and MIT grad that started his own computer company. He was an alternate on an OLympic wrestling team (heavyweight, 1976), too. Check out the Wikipedia mini-bio:Mini Biography Born in the Netherlands, he came to the United States as a child in the late 1950s. Erland grew up in Orange, New Jersey; Ridgefield, Connecticut; and Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ,,,
Great film greatsoundtrack :) one of those cool style films I be watching this on an l.a. channel back in the early 80$ as a kid fell in love just great work and music wanderers forever ! ;)
Tara was an MIT grad. Brilliant. Had a number of other roles. Died at an early age of natural causes. I can’t find the album soundtrack for sale or the DVD. Swallowed up. One of the best movies ever.

I saw this with John Bal,Paul Bal,Gerard and Big Tom Murray at the RKO on 181st n bway in Washington heights nyc 15 years old in 1979,those old sticky floors,Johnny C

Excellent film. I actually preferred the Wanders to the Warriors which was a great film in its own right but I think the soundtrack to the Wanderers tipped the balance for me. And yes the Ducky Boys were a scary firm even though historical reseach discovered they were a bunch of kids who hung around the duck pond near The Bronx Botanical Gardens 210th St.
Steve Mcniel Although there are a few different opinions the truth seems to be because they hung around the 'duck ponds' up in the North Bronx. if you follow link in my previous post a couple of the original 'Ducky Boys' and girls give us their reason. Like most films the reality is a long way from the truth lol
The Warriors ruined this film, commercially as it came out 5 months later, fighting in the movie theatre stopped the screening of this...I think it's better...by far
Now those were real street gangs with swagger and style, not like the idiotic looking clowns of today who claim to be gangsters. Even if they were thugs, those gangs back at least had camaraderie and code.
They're all losers, tbh. If you have the kind of mentality most gang-members have of 'needing to belong', you have a serious problem. But at least back then they kept their violence and trouble-making between themselves instead of driving down streets shooting people who have nothing to do with their bullshit.
Indeed they are all losers, but the so called gang bangers today are annoying scrubs who wear clownish attire and act like they don't have any sense whatsoever. I'm not in any way idealizing the street gangs of the past, but in my opinion they were the real deal.
Gushing GuG and most of them can't fight either. It's all about guns. I'd imagine most of them don't even know what a blade looks like now, let alone using their fists! The just want Glock 9's or whatever those are called...it's about killing someone stone dead now instead of just being the self-styled toughest kid in the neighborhood. The world has changed a lot

One of my all time favourite films, had everything and a great sound track.
