My wife and I LOVED Danang. She is gone now but I will be back this coming month for another year of cheap food, wonderful people, and a great climate.
We are in Da Nang currently and love it! We've been full-time traveling with our 2 kids and we are considering Da Nang as one of our home bases after traveling to 11 countries in 1 year! Easy airport access, clean, safe, nice beach and affordable! Simply Amazing!❤😊🇻🇳
I can’t imagine anything worse than having to drag kids around with a ton of luggage and having to uproot once a month to experience “new countries”, I travel with just a backpack and that is challenging enough. I feel bad for you. 😂
Right on time! I'm planning to spend a month in Da Nang just a few months from now. Just the type of informative, practical content I needed. Thank you so much! And couldn't agree with you more about not tying yourself to just one location in retirement. That's exactly how I'm doing it. Your videos are top-notch...looking forward to the next one!
Watching this video takes me back over 53 years since the last time I saw it. Wow, things have changed especially what was called China Beach and was a recreation area for the US military during the war. All of the areas identified in this video are beautiful, areas where I use to always carried an M-16. I'd love to go back and see it now.
We just recently retired in the Philippines and got our citizenship under the SRRV program. We are in Da Nang now and we are going to explore Vietnam extensively for the next 90 days. We are definitely going to hop around and enjoy other SEA countries. We absolutely love Da Nang!!!😊
I really like this guy . His info is totally straight forward and genuine without a load of waffle and another agenda...keep it up..hope you get a lot more recognition for your work. Cheers!
@@iamjohnsaboe I really liked how you didn’t focus on only the beachfront areas to stay. I’m going to look into the other sections of Da Nang to experience the real Vietnam 🇻🇳 !!
This is some of your best work, video, info, editing and content. Way to go JS, you have me checking out all your postings. I was there last March, drove by you and couldn’t get turned around in time to meet you. Next time I will. Thanks for all you do for us retirees wanting to travel and experience the culture, people, history, food, geography and warm weather durning our cold Canadian winters. Michael Gale Hamilton Ont.
Hi Michael, sorry I missed you! Thanks so much for the kind words, it is very much appreciated! So glad you’re able to enjoy this wonderful way of life away from Canada. Cheers! John
My favourite beach location John in Vietnam is Danang. The Expats I meet are working with a real work visa, running a business or investing in one with a proper investment visa, married to a Vietnamese and have a Dependent visa or TT, Viet Kieu with the appropriate visas and The Tourist who comes and goes with a tourist visa. All contribute to the economy which helps Vietnam. Not so long ago people working or trying to retire on tourist visas were told to leave the country. I enjoy your videos and I enjoy Vietnam. looking forward to the next episode.😎
Wonderful to hear you have had such a great experience meeting expats here and others enjoying life in Danang! Thanks again for sharing and look forward to bringing you more videos from here!
I can not thank you enough for your video. We will be in Da nang for 3 days in February 2025, your video gave detail information about DN geography. This will give me an idea where to stay 🙏🙏🙏
This is really interesting city to explore. And thank you for your videos. I’ve learned more about them. I’m Thức. And I’m from Gia Lai province - Vietnam.
We're coming for 30 days this August and staying in My An. Thanks to your video, we are now excited to explore other parts of the city on foot and on wheels!
Thanks John for your best work. It makes me excited to go back DN .it is really good place for my retirement .I want to be your guide to experience food, culture ,history and he people there.
Just subscribed, liked and watched all commercials haha. I moved here less than a week and found a place in An Thuong 30, your video is great I enjoyed it much and learned a lot.
John, great advice! I am retired 4 years now and have been doing the "slow travel" thing, even during Covid a bit... I am settling in on a couple favorite regions and I think I will wind up in places that I like the best in 3 or 4 regions of the world. South America, SE Asia, Eastern Europe and my home, for visiting family in North America. I just arrived here in Vietnam after seeing Phillipines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. Da Nang has been high on my list for a long time for its affordability, mild climate and central location. Maybe we will run into each other in a couple weeks when I get to that part of the country. Thanks!
Thanks very much for sharing your experience. That’s really great that you’re taking advantage of your freedom and exploring your favorite parts of the world. You’ll never have any regrets!!!
Excellent vid! Stayed at the Hilton by the river and walked all the bridges. Used Grab for the first time for cheap get around town mobility. Only caveat was the humidity/heat sweating like a hog when exploring on foot. I'll be back soon.
Me too.we t to Saigon and it was worse, 96 and humid as hell. Almost unbearable for me. Will go back next year and go to Hanoi, where it’s much cooler. 👍
I was stationed at Da Nang Air base from Jan 1968 to Jan 1970. Made several trips to that beach, to us it was known as China Beach. I would LOVE to go back there now, in these current times, so different from when I was there! But at my age, I have mobility/walking issues, just don't see me being able to properly get around. But thanks for this video of Da Nang, I really enjoyed it!
Wow! John your ethos fits with mine for numerous reasons. What a damned good discovery finding your channel. Thank you for creating vlogs - now to find time to watch back all those other videos. Take care and all the best.
New sub. Excellent video. Just returned from a week in Da Nang and Hoi An. Explored a few of the districts you covered. Although the beach is spectacular it also naturally draws loads of tourists. Prices for food, drink and accommodation are higher here. I’m looking to spend 3 months per year in beautiful Da Nang. I would prefer the west side of the Han river area. Loved it! Bamboo 2 bar is a great location with riverfront and bridge view, cheap beer, good food and great background music. Beer Garden nearby is good too. More locals. The city is very clean, the traffic is not outrageous, the air quality is good. I love Da Nang! ♥️
"Why would you want to stay in the same place?" EXACTLY! I just lost my job in Michigan after 30 years at the same company and now anxious to slow travel south Asia. I just got back from a month motorbiking in Vietnam. Going to Thailand in a few months. Thanks for the inspiration!
Here after Kuala Lumpur metro guide video. The detail and style of video with map markers is so cool and made it easier to watch than other UA-cam videos yapping all day. I had great time staying 2 nights in son tra near beach last year. The crowds were less and accommodation was surprising cheap compared to Saigon and Hanoi. Your weather advisory for November was spot on as we landed da nang in rain and Hoi An was flooded. I had great time walking entire dragon bridge and going to cho con market and ended up on river cruise with lot of Koreans 😊. I loved Da Nang and want to spend more than 2-3 days here. The combination of sea front, river front especially walking spaces parallel to the river and proximity to airport and Hoi An makes it an all rounder. Thanks for bringing back my memories and all the best for the channel. Wish you make more videos in neighbouring countries as well. 👍🏾👍🏾
I've walked the bridges & yes it's amazing. I have a horrible sense of direction even while using google maps. So I feel like I've walked around the entire city. I've definitely walked all of the neighborhoods listed in the video. keep up the good work
Was very helpful, got 6 days in Da nang and staying at that Hilton garden inn , hotel looks amazing but little out the way .. hopefully easy to get down to bars in the nights :)
This was exactly what I was looking for! I'm going to Da Nang for 2 months to work in the education system and m create some new traveling experiences! Thanks 🍻

Great video and info... We have been traveling Sth East Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam) for the past 17 mths and found Da Nang one of the most affordable and livable cities we have visited... We stay in Da Nang for 3 mths at a time now and do a month or so in another country whilst renewing our visa... Enjoy 🍻
Fantastic John! The only video I have seen that gives you info you need. I noticed you didn't include pricing which is easy enough to look up myself and I would like to surf or get in the water so I would like to have seen a bit on the water quality. Very comprehsive review, amazing job of editing and content all round. Thanks again ... Kev
Thanks much appreciated! Prices will fluctuate and possibly drop in 2025. Putting prices in and then not being accurate pisses people off. Can’t help you with surf quality. Not as good as Indonesia but it does attract a bit of a surf crowd. Thanks again!
New subscriber here, excellent and informative video. Absolutely agree with you about having multiple options and slow travel, there are many benefits to the lifestyle, even beyond variety, I just landed here yesterday after 6 years in Thailand, to avoid being a tax resident in that country, I really like the vibe here in Da Nang, it’s friendlier than what I was used to , and the service is pleasantly better as well.
Wow! That was an amazing video! Very thorough, well researched, and executed. You may remember my formal channel, Focus-Asia Pacific when I was living in Danang and Saigon from 2018-2023. Really enjoy your content...makes me want visit again!
I retired from a job that made me travel around the world. I loved my job. Now I'm happy to stay a long time in one place (where I live now, in Thailand and my holidays are usually not much longer than a week. Then I want to go back to my home!
Stayed at the Brilliant Hotel in Danang, good view of Dragon Bridge, close to the Market and a gentle walk to the Centre of Danang. Staff there were excellent
I have came back to visit Danang - my hometown from USA. Would love to see Danang through your eyes. I was a reporter for one of the largest newspapers in Vietnam so I really like your videos. Have fun here in Danang!
Da Nang, one of the three major tourist centers of Vietnam, is a beautiful, peaceful and hospitable coastal city. Da Nang is definitely an attractive and ideal destination. You will go from one surprise to another on your journey of discovery. We look forward to welcoming you to Da Nang, Vietnam. 🇻🇳
Hello John , I have watched alot show about travelling destinations. I found your show very interesting, full of information and learned alot . Keep up with the professional standards and your show was a joy to watch. Cheers Sasha
Gr8 presentation and commentary in fact best I have watched on Da Nan best info ℹ️ share with least amount of waffle and blah blah 😂 A sincere Many thanks 🙏🏼
You know it makes sense what you’re saying I’m retired Union Carpenter. I lived in New York City all my life and I did on a home in Florida got divorced now I’m back in the city New York and I have traveled in Hong Kong Philippines, Thailand never been to Vietnam, but it does make sense and I’m definitely gonna try that, three months three months and see how it goes. Thanks for opening my eyes a little bit,,,,,,,🙏
I hope that works out for you! I see so many people just looking for a place to retire or stay put without opening up and seeing what else is out there. Safe travels and best of luck to you!
I felt compelled to write and tell you that you make a great video. Well thought out and the delivery is top notch. I am ex-navy and would like to travel in the near future. I will be watching your videos.
John, what you said about changing this mental blockade in your head, and instead of staying in ONE ( does not matter how " idyllic") place on your retirement, stay three months or even two , and then move to another interesting location. My plan for retirement ( very soon:-) is to make " slow travel loops" . One of those " loops" will be : Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malesia, Philippines. Second " loop" Armenia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Albania. Third one ( but not the last) will be : Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Costa Rica. Overall, this mode of travel makes much more sense than staying in one place ( for me). Btw. Great video , very informative , even though I was in Vietnam , also DaNang year ago.
Thanks so much! I Love your “travel loop” ideas. You’ll collect some of the most amazing memories and have a much deeper connection with humanity in my opinion than you ever possibly could by planting yourself in one place. Best of luck with everything!!!
@@iamjohnsaboe Thank you! I should mention that I will document my slow travel loop experience with my YT videos :-) . I created my chanel @backpackingbold , one year ago but it was more to learn how to edit videos , so quality is far from what I would like to see , and what I hope to achieve, starting full time travel life style and posting regularly. …and it makes me even more appreciate your videos quality and I see how much work and time it took you to create it.
Excellent video! My beautiful Vietnamese wife and I visited Da Nang last year (2023) A very wonderful place! Your description of Da Nang is the best I have heard. Thank you!
Excellent video!!! By far the best video that I have seen on DN. Very informative, comprehensive & a very professional bit of filming! I have been enjoying my retirement travelling in Asia the last nine years & DN is my favourite - it ticks many boxes & I have stayed here 3/4 months every year - including two years during the Covid period! Excellent job Sir - very articulate & eloquent!
You can definitely set up a place here but there is no retirement visa currently available in Vietnam. You will have to do visa runs every 3 months and possibly stay out of the country anywhere from 2-10 days.
Wow. Thanks for the video! I like the way you presented the city. I got my ticket to Da Nang for April 16 and this overview will help me a lot. I got 90 days to explore my options and than thinking about Thailand and Philippines. Best wishes!
RE: your comment, why would you want to stay an extended time as an expat in only one spot is perfect. 🙂 After watching you for quite some time, I begin my SE Asia journey starting with mainly Da Nang for the first year but I am choosing to move around every 30-days to find the neighborhood that I love the most. Having been in Da Nang for an extended time in the past, it’s the right type of a more quiet side and slower pace for me. Thank for your outstanding content. The timing of this video is perfect!
That’s great!!! I’m glad you are going into your journey with that plan in mind. And plans can always change too! Be open and be free! Too few ever get that!!!
Why should you stay in one country? As a retired person you now have a lot of money and can afford to visit a new country at least every 3 months! Enjoy your life!
AWESOME VIDEO, thank you. My friends & I will be arriving in Da Nang on Jan. 31., for 5 days. I'll be retiring soon, and definitely considering spending some of my retirement time (3 months per year) in Da Nang. 😁
Great video and lots of good info. I like your minimalist vagabond approach! I lived in China for several years-looking forward to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand....
I'm glad I found your channel! I'm an expat by nature of my career. Formetly a frequent international traveler. Now retired, but still have the wanderlust. I've been to VN a few times, but not Da Nang. It's now on the list! Great video, btw. 👍

Thanks for your very kind words! Very much appreciated!!! Hope to see you in Vietnam soon!!!
I retired from a job that made me travel around the world. I loved my job. Now I'm happy to stay a long time in one place (where I live now, in Thailand and my holidays are usually not much longer than a week. Then I want to go back to my home!
Great to hear! You’re enjoying and appreciating every moment in your life.

Wow ! amazing job, John ! great editing and nice background music too 🙏😊👍👍
Thanks very much!!!
Beautiful Danang
Yes I agree!!!
I felt compelled to write and tell you that you make a great video. Well thought out and the delivery is top notch. I am ex-navy and would like to travel in the near future. I will be watching your videos.
Thank you so much! Very much appreciate your kind words. I hope you are able to travel soon and see the places you desire to see and experience!
I have watched hundreds of travel videos over the years, this series is one of the best. Thanks very much for posting!
Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate that!!!
Love your “travel loop” ideas.
@@backpackingbold thanks again and good luck with everything!!!
Great tour of Danang!!! Your high production quality gave me a vibe of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Very informative and enjoyable.
Cool!!! Thanks so much!!!
Excellent video! My beautiful Vietnamese wife and I visited Da Nang last year (2023) A very wonderful place! Your description of Da Nang is the best I have heard. Thank you!
Thanks, really appreciate that!!!
This was highly informative! Thank you, John!

Very well done ✌️
Thanks! Much appreciated!!!
YOU EXPLAIN A LOT PERFECTLY WITH DIAGRAMS AND STUFF, THANKS
Thanks, appreciate that!!!
Aloha, so glad I found your channel. Wow this is one of the best informative videos on Da Nnag. You have yourself a new subscriber
Cool! Thanks very much!!!
John, if someone was conscious, could they live there or nha trang for $1000 USD per month? Thanks.
Yes that’s definitely possible!
Hey thanks so much!!! Really appreciate the kind words and the sharing of your Danang experience!!!
Hello from Hua Hin Thailand. I'm thinking of moving my retired home base to Da Nang. Any comments greatly appreciated ✌️
Thanks very much!!! Hope you have a wonderful time in Danang and best of luck with the rest of your plans!!!
RE: your comment, why would you want to stay an extended time as an expat in only one spot is perfect. 🙂
After watching you for quite some time, I begin my SE Asia journey starting with mainly Da Nang for the first year but I am choosing to move around every 30-days to find the neighborhood that I love the most.
Thanks for the vid John. I'm going to Danang this coming May, haven't book any place yet, but your inputs are helping a lots.
My pleasure, hope you have a great visit!!!
Why should you stay in one country? As a retired person you now have a lot of money and can afford to visit a new country at least every 3 months! Enjoy your life!
Thanks for your feedback!
I agree 100%
I agree 100% too.
Try it first then talk, you’re not gonna last….
Because its tiring?
Great job! A very informative and detailed video of Da Nang.
Thanks very much!!!
Your attitude to living/retiring is amazing! Why stay in one place? Awesome!
Thanks so much!!!
Great suggestions
Love your work
Detailed and easy to navigate as you put up the zones , that’s brilliant
Great video

I'm glad I found your channel! I'm an expat by nature of my career. Formetly a frequent international traveler. Now retired, but still have the wanderlust. I've been to VN a few times, but not Da Nang. It's now on the list! Great video, btw. 👍

That Hyatt Regency is awesome but also plenty smaller, more budget friendly hotels
Yes absolutely!!! Last time I checked there was a room with 2 beds in My A for less than $9/night!😂
