Great Video Jesse! Are you and the guys from southside seeing any oil leaks from the oil line that feeds the PTO crank bearing or from the oil reservoir oil line connections on boost sleds? We found a lot of oil spray all over side of engine, belt guard, and crossmember under exhaust. Me and two other guys here in Michigan are experiencing this right now on our Boosts. We ruled out oil lines not rubbing, and its not the oil line pump in bottom of sled.
The boost definitely takes it top end for sure. But just my observation and jessie please correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like if you were in the twisties that the 9r has better instant acceleration. For me that would be what I want since I like killing trails. Looks like 9t would be a monster on the trail
The lower gearing and 1.6” track on the 9R is what’s giving it the grunt and decent holeshot. If you go to a taller gearing he’s not going to holeshot as good and it will be worse for the 9R. If you clutch the 9R sure it will get faster, but so will the BOOST. I was waiting for these videos to make my decision and for trailing and drag racing it’s a no brainer…BOOST!
I might argue that because the 9R has so much bottom torque when you have lower gearing you may be doing more spinning off the line vs moving forward. Dropping a 1.6 to a 1.5 or at least in that direction, it might help the spin and be a huge help mid and upper mph range.
Polaris should have just done a 1000cc since 850 and 900 is very close but not knocking the 9r. No replacement for displacement... until you tune up an 850 Boost.
Great content, data driven commentary, fantastic entertainment as usual... but... let's see what we all REALLY want to see... an honest comparison between worked over boosts and worked over sidewinders! Step by step through the clutching and tuning for both sleds.
thank you! and i would like that too but its tough to get that set up. especially because i dont have a buddy with a winder that wants to mess with it! BUT one day well get it done!!
Great video as always !! Do you think Will from VSP is gonna make a tune for the boost this season. ? I’ve seen couple videos of bikeman performance ( Torque link ) tunes and they’re pretty impressive ! Would be cool to see same race you had in this video but the boost tuned..
I don't think that's going to happen. 9RXCR much more likely. The added weight of turbo components isn't really the XCR's mojo. In fact, I'd like to see the XCR lose a little weight if anything!
i would call Velocity sled Performnace. I just ran his (Will) clutch kit this weekend and wow. I wish i had it when we did these runs because i know for a fact it wouldve eaten everything and been way out front. And not just speed it was more responsive and better all around
Interesting video as usual. It looks like in a drag race 660’ competition the 9R would be a force. I wonder how a stock 850 would do against these monsters
Yeah this isn't surprising. 9r shoots out, and boost ends up rolling by. I guess for people who bought the 9r was this silly monster boost killer then it surprising, but anyone who has been around anything boosted this is exactly the outcome to expect.
for sure i agree 100%. i do think so different gearing and clutching it would have been closer but i think at the end of the day the boost will overcome the 9R
@JESSEJAMES322 maybe, but do gearing and clutching to a boost, and see what happens. It also low elevation. So your only seeing limited boost. Tune that boost so it running what it actually capable of putting out and it not even the same ballpark. Have you done a 9r to an 850 that would be probably a more apples to apples, or if you could find someone with an 850 with like pipes and a head.
Great video.. If Polaris made the 9r in a trail sled and if I were looking to buy a 2023, I’m not sure which one I’d choose. Probably the boost but I like the 9r as well. That said, I’m not sure it’s worth the money, time, and hassle to buy a 9r engine in place of an 850. Seems like a lot to deal with for an extra 15-20hp. If I still owned my 2019 850, I’d rather just spend the cash on a turbo and exhaust for the 850.
Big difference between trails and lake racing. I can promise you I could beat your Thundercat on a 10 mile trail run using an ancient 6000 R-XC Cat, and even more so on a 650XCR. Unless your definition of a "trail" is an endless railbed!
Awesome footage guys, love seeing these comparisons and definitely looking forward to the 850 NA match! many thanks to Bruce for making this possible 👍🏻🇨🇦 Keep ‘‘em coming Jesse👏
thanks for following along as always!! this was a fun one!
What EPI weights were in the Boost that was out front? Stock clutching except for weights?
EPI Belly Busters 84 grams. Yes all stock

Your buddy putting the stirrup on was classic. I bet he was shouting Yeehaw too 😂
hes a jokster thats for sure!!! he did pull us all damn weekend so hes got bragging rights!
Does the 9R have any more vibration at idle or running than an 850? Thanks for the Great video..
not that i noticed no. Vibration at idle comes from stiffer motor mounts
Bearing on top changed..and seal on my 850....3800 miles.....bearing was toast
It's going to do just what you thought it would do. It's the trail shredder. Corner to corner. Love it!
that it is for sure!!!
Great video JJ. It’s amazing what some changes do on these sleds. Thanks for the info and not just the races and done.
little changes make huge differneces especially in the clutching world!
@@JESSEJAMES322 what clutch work did the guy in front have differently and what company do I go with?
Sorry if I missed it, were all the sleds out of break-in mode?
boosts were. 9R no
How much engine tuning was done to the 9R?
factory tune.
@@JESSEJAMES322, any plans to custom tune the engine?

The 9r with stock track and gearing didn’t look any faster out of the hole. Response and quicker revs for sure. It has a 650 crank
for sure would be a 9R if thats what you're looking for. Its instant power and corner to corner you cant beat it
The lower gearing and 1.6” track on the 9R is what’s giving it the grunt and decent holeshot.

Exactly what I was thinking too. I got 300 miles on my boost so far. Love it
you have a very good thought process. and i do agree. i love my boost!
I might argue that because the 9R has so much bottom torque when you have lower gearing you may be doing more spinning off the line vs moving forward. Dropping a 1.6 to a 1.5 or at least in that direction, it might help the spin and be a huge help mid and upper mph range.
And a stock 850 has plenty for trail riding
there is never enough power

the 9R is not just 50CC more. Lightweight rotating assembly. 650 crank and some other goodies. i woudl also like to see a 1000!!
@@JESSEJAMES322 Ahh okay it does seem to perform better than just a 50cc advantage. Let's see what Polaris announces in about a month.

boosts are out. 9R is still in break in
Any time you can go over 100, it`s a great day!! That brought back good memories, thanks.
i agree there! Thanks for watching!
What was the max speed of the day?
I saw 115. have since seen 118 with Velocity Sled Performance clutch kit ad I saw that in a much shorter run
I was just on a website with predictions about 2024 polaris snowmobiles. They were talking about a 850XCR Boost.
i saw that. i would not be surprised to see that
I don't think that's going to happen. 9RXCR much more likely. The added weight of turbo components isn't really the XCR's mojo.
In fact, I'd like to see the XCR lose a little weight if anything!
Per polaris it’s 15 lbs difference. Order it with pull start and it’s the same weight as an ES NA 850
Them 9rs launch is right there with the boost but no legs up top like the boost
Turbo lag is just a gentleman’s way to hurt feelings.
Hey jesse any chance of a vr1 boost 129 1 inch ripsaw 165 studs

What mods do you plan on doing on the boost?
just installed a clutch kit from velocity sled performance and then he has some other goodies in the works that i will be running!
Awesome. Anxious to see how it works. I’m not ready to tune and void my warranty yet this year lol
you can rock a clutch kit though!!!
Exactly !
clutch kit was light years better then stock!!!
Thank you JJ....very good information...I like the boost
you and me both!
Good runs, I see Polaris is still optimistic on the dream-o-meter!
the Dream-o-meter has gotten closer actually. i read 4 off
The 1.6 on the 9r slows it down lots put the same track on the 9r and the rite gear much more top end.
The other 9r had stock track stock gearing. It just lost sooner. Lol
right the other 9R had the same track and the same gearing and same out come
Plus it's got to still be in break in mode

Boost the 9R
one step at a time ;)
Great job! Really enjoying your channel!

Dude that 9r isn't broken in yet. How many miles hours is on yours? If they are in break in mode you are no where near peak performance
we are aware. it had 100 miles on it that day.

a stock winder?

and i can run a 270 horse tune in my boost then what?! im not talking about tuned stuff! stock for stock it would be interesting for sure!
Jess had the 9R had one and one quater track it would be faster plus stock gearing like you boosts led. Christopher Ottawa canada
The other 9r had a stock track and gearing. Got smoked
correct. other 9R had the same track and gearing. COuldd have done some more with cluthing on that but that got beat worse then the one Bruce was on!

80 miles and we burn a full tank

boosts had longer legs in the end

Drag racing across a lake in not snowmobiling
for the purposes of seeing performance of a snowmobile yes it is. if you want to see the 9R go down the trail you can go to the video before that
The right setup that 9r takes the boost.
Lol. You must have ignored how the clutch boost ran up top. Without the gearing and track advantage the 9r would have lost from bottom to top.
I'm not so sure about that. Them boost were beating that handily.
i dont know about thatl might be closer but i do not believe they would run with the boosts regardles of set up
