Arctic Cat break-in mode boys. For the first .3 hours (18 minutes) the engine is limited to 6500 rpm, oil to fuel is at 4% extra fuel in the fuel air mixture. For the next 5.7 hours 2% additional fuel in the mixture and a fixed 30:1 oil to fuel so still running quite rich. So yes, if you're pushing it, it may bog. After Stage 2 is complete the engine reverts to its full capabilities.
Let's not forget the automatic clutch removal on polaris, or the disappearing chain case on the doo's. Or the exploding gas tank on polaris. They both had issues as well with their new sleds. The cat is not going to be prefect out of the gate. 9r has a few years under its belt, it was not that great when it first came out either. The bog is a break in, or mapping issue would be my guess. Hopefully cat figures it out and throws a fix out there.
Just had my 858 out out for 2 days in Mcbride. Had issues with bogging initially. Found it was the power valve cable binding. check yours, manually rotate the servo motor, if it is not smooth, bend the cable mount a little untill it rotates easy by hand. fixed mine right up/. it rips, no bogs .
Why does Arctic Cat always get compared to a higher displacement engine? Arctic Cat had the 800 its was compared to the 850, now cat has a 858 and its compared to a 900….why not put the 858 against the 850???? Seems like a fair comparison.
You're phrasing the question with a bias that cat is being treated unfairly. What if you asked why cat doesn't build something new to keep up, and compare apples to apples. No boost, no big bore, one can only compare what's available!
@@Roy-gi1lu It would make sense, if those would cost the same. Usually makes sense to compare sleds that are priced about the same and are on the same category.

Had my butt hole pucker at that 10:05 ish point. Nice sled management, solid job taking a breath and getting your thoughts straight and doing exactly what you know how to do while under immense pressure!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥👊🏼👊🏼
@fasterdura1772 would that go for the 600 catalyst as well? Between my wife and I, we put a little over 900 miles on the 600 last year. That bog was an issue the entire time.
I will take a bog any day over a blown out primary clutch. At least with a bog, you can still ride the sled. A blown out primary clutch…… you are done! The Polaris still does not impress me.
Trail riding is more Fun ! Friend of my moms, her husband helped me install my garage doors, he noticed 1 of my machines was a long track, I told him I hardly ever use it, told him I prefer trail riding , faster speeds, he & his son had turbo Skidoos , 3 years ago he died in an avalanche in Idaho , he told me mountain riding was safer , I disagreed , and I’m still here ! This comment needs to be pinned to every 858 video out there right now.
More oil equals leaner, hence the richer fuel mixture to compensate
how do you know he didn't already break in in?
Seen so many of these sleds still with a BOG after break in. The 9R was in break in mode as well and didnt have an issue.....
@@BullittOutdoors only if it's premixed in the fuel not when oil and fuel are injected separately!

I agree, because they know it won't compare
They will be comparing Cats 900 to the 9R and Cats turbo to the Boost in the next video… oh wait
In all seriousness the comparison should be 858 vs Boost. Flagship vs flagship only makes sense.

Love the banter love Snowmobileing in General Happy Riding Guys and Gals be Safe have Fun!!
The polaris machines bogged lots the for 3 or 4 years too
I've been waiting for this comparison. Thanks.
if anybody is wondering why its boging its because of the break-in mode and it'l go away after
I have 300km and over 12 hours on mine and the bug is still there so not related to break in mode
Everyone seems to fail to mention the $3500 price difference between these sleds. The 858 doesn’t have to beat the 9r. It’s 850 pricing
The 850 from polaris is 18K, the Cat was 23K, the 9R is 25K. its closer to 9R pricing then it is with the 850.
@@BenSeinenbase model 858 msrp is just under $16k use.
@ thanks. But we’re not comparing the base model. This is the snopro 165 and we’re up in Canada, so that what we pay up here.
@@BenSeinen the cat is an 850 class engine. Compared base model to base model the other 850s they're all similar in price.
@Cummins2519 This is not a base comparison. It’s a snow pro vs a 9R. Pretty simple. Cats flagship sled vs Polaris’ flagship sled.
when polaris makes a 900cc it is compared to 850s but when cat makes an 858cc its compared to the 900 always never the 850s
Ibexx clutching is the best. If you guys are going to do a clutch kit would highly recommend!!!!!
Love the video quality and the new digs!
🤘looks beauty out there for November
The 19 alpha will always look the best.

A least the cat will run compared to p.o.s.polaris and yeah recalls coming out there butt
What elevation were you guys riding at?
I’ve been wondering how the 9R and 858 would compare
Why do you have shit shocks on almost all of your sleds?😂😂😫

Hahahah thanks! I was definitely puckered up too!
I've seen too many clutch bolt/ primary failures. I'm all set with Polaris. I'll take the Alpha or a doo over a Polaris any day.
Amen 🙏
Bogging will go away after brake in mode.
I have 300km and over 12 hours and still bog once in a while.
@@hugogirard4125 Is it as often than in the early miles?
The bog is the throttle safety switch. Tighten the cable or unhook it.

Surely it's not fun riding in snow so deep!!Ya can't sorta get hammering
Run 94 octane or better , in that cat ,it sounds like my little Alpha when I put 87 ,went to 94 , problem solved .
The Cat had 94 in it.
@@BenSeinen how the hell do you know that?
lol. Look at the name. Its his 858

cant wait for tomorrows vid.. as I suspecred , the 9r was better out of the box
pliz drop the slomo
Excuse after excuse is exhausting…fair comparison should always be by CC’s it’s pretty basic.
Thanks for the real world comparison! So nice to get an unbiased review. Soooo much Cat delirium out there 😜
Kinda like doo and poo delirium?
The 9r is only 899cc…. Not a true 900 😂

I’m getting to old to mountain ride , and a friend died in an avalanche in Idaho 3 years ago , setting a high mark ,

He's rite no comparison to a polairs at all especially an Artic Cat, Polaris is way above them all!!
Delusion is a heluva drug, lol.
Hey... stay off your Daddy's computer.
Way above Polaris is top of line p.o.s. and will always be overpriced who has most recalls in history Ha
You're right. When in comes to recalls, Polaris is above everybody. Half a dozen recalls alone on my 9R alone.
Very nice powder wish I was there
