Ok here are the hopups there: Motor plate is from Litespeed, called litesink, front arms are Andy's, bell-crank is from an RC10, chassis might beTrinity or Home made. ESC is a Novak 1X
checkpoint motor, andy's racing front arms, it has a chassis of a different brand, also the steering bell cranks are ball raced and from some other brand, Lite Heatsink motor mount
Crazy thing, I remember Action Hobbies was a hobby shop based out of Charlotte N.C. This was back in the mid 80's into the 90's. It has since dissolved. Unique Ultima's indeed Glenn.
As a kid in the late eighties and early nineties I know of a few people who had the original Ultima. Nobody had the Pro I feel like those were more for the racer not the basher. Awesome video and display of vintage RC!!
Super cool....as you said and so true a time capsule! What is that motor Glenn??? I would love that in my little motor collection! Beautiful looking motor! Thanks Dennis great to see this. Great vid Glenn. Cheers James.
I’d be willing to bet those nicd saddle packs would come back to life if you charged them on an old school charger like a pro tech.. this is like stepping back to the pages of RC car action magazine in the early 90’s.
The rear toe-in adjustment is Robinson Racing part #3005. The instructions tell you to file a notch in the rear of the chassis so that you can insert a tool into the center of the adjustment bar, and twist it without taking the car apart. But I think most people couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Gonna be great when Dennis is done with it. Bloody Kyosho shocks could be blown up with a 12gauge and still work unbelievable. That car oozes the hand made racing gear to me.
The speed controller seems to be a novak super rooster. That was a cool alternative to the individual cell that would normally laying in The slots. I sure do love the power that lipo batteries have brought us but I missed the way the old Battery setup used to be using battery bars to build your Own packs individual cells and plus the batteries looked so much cooler the neon color's. Sorry i'm having a real nostalgia moment 😂 I'm really glad you showed this buggy in the condition. I was surprised to tamiya connectors and not power poles but but that was a different time
Thanks for this Glenn, complete Ultima geek out. It looks like in its day, it raced and got serious go fast bits. Front arms are Andy's, the rears look like stock Ultima, because the Pro and Pro XL have rear arms from a Kyosho Lazer. Chassis is a Trinity unit. It might be a Pro and not a Pro XL because it looks like Dennis or the owner previous cut the radio tray down, the Pro XL only had a short plate that covered between the front bulkhead and went as far back as the steering posts. Robinsons for the toe adjustment. One of the rears looks like a Optima wheel or JC racing reproduction wheel. Not sure about the battery hold down system. The steering assembly isn't Kyosho so maybe the radio plate got modified up front. Some racers preferred the platinum shocks over the golds, but golds were the dampeners everyone wanted. I think the order was, Ultima, Turbo Ultima. Pro/Pro XL. Ultima 2, Sideways, Turbo Ultima 2, Triumph and then the RB series.
The Ultima filled the podium at the 87 2WD worlds. The cars which were second and third had the same bronze coloured harden alloy chassis as the Turbo. The car that was first had a trinity graphite chassis similar to pro. That pro there has a aftermarket chassis which is similar but not by trinity. The trinity chassis has a longer tail at the rear end. The upper radio plate looks like a cut down standard Ultima Pro. It has a litespeed motor plate and heat sync. Aftermarket front wide arms, might be Andy’s arms. Ball raced bell crank based on the RC10s and a rear tow adjustment mount for the rear arms. The rest looks pretty standard Ultima pro should have rear UJs, ball diff, .6 DP counter gear. FRP shock towers and the mega option house gold shocks.
This is seriously cool Glenn. I love the original Ultima, my all time favourite buggy. I actually slightly modded a Turbo Ultima to have the OG Ultima body on it, cause I’m weird that way. Great vid.
Thats crazy that on the side of the body says action hobbies I got my first 2 rc cars there plus many more years later. They were in Selden NY at one time they had a race track. They were around for many years but unfortunately after someone new bought them out they slowly dissapeared such a shame. Awesome ultima by the way. My second rc was a turbo ultima. Always wanted a ultima pro xl maybe one day 😊
Andy's wide track front arms, Houge bellcranks, Trinity chassis, Novak NESC-2 ESC, Robinson Racing rear toe adjuster, Team Chackpoint motor. The crinkle finish on the motor is supposed to help dissipate heat.
Just discovered the channel and this video. Did your friend ever figure out what the chassis is? I have one and would love to know where it’s from. Checkpoint is Jim Greenmeyer. He was a friend of mine that passed away. He used to consult for Mike Reedy and had a hand in the design of their brushed motors…I still have a prototype of a stock motor he asked me to test for them.
I have no idea about the kyosho cars, so no idea what hop ups are fitted 😂 im looking out for an ultima 2 i think i need one atleast in the collection 😂
Don’t know a great deal about vintage Kyosho rc’s but I’m learning and this one looks like it’s had a great racing life😊 I think that motor is an early Kyosho le mans probably virtually impossible to see which exact one it is?
Some of the car is a mystery for me as well- any info is greatly appreciated!
I’ll give it a day and then comment what the motor is-😮
I too would like to see what the motor is.
@@kyleteal5888 team checkpoint platinum
@@dennisharold8934 Very cool motor! I even like better as this without the sticker.

Motor - team checkpoint platinum. Original alloy end too.

Just love it and I agree leave it as it is tells a better story than a shelf queen 👍
Andy’s front A arms, trinity 7 cell carbon chassis, light sink heatsink? Upgraded ballraced steering. Custom alloy adjustable rear toe in mount?
Gonna be great when Dennis is done with it. Bloody Kyosho shocks could be blown up with a 12gauge and still work unbelievable. That car oozes the hand made racing gear to me.
I love the Ultima series of buggies, great video Glen
The esc is obviously made by novak. The orange gives it away in the same way lrp use blue.
This thing is awesome. A true time capsule.

I had a Triumph and it reminds me a lot of that car.
The rear tires are from a toms . They are rarer than a rare thing marked rare 😁 love it😎
Toms? Let me know if they are worth saving-
@@dennisharold8934 definitely worth saving . turbo optima mid special 👍
@@Mrtrc33 I’ll set them aside for someone w a mid special
@@dennisharold8934 that would be me then 😂
Awesome!!! He probably left that gear off so you wouldn’t be tempted to give it a rip 😄
😂I’m actually looking for a factory gear to go there - I 3D printed one for now.

Ultimate video mate 👍
Glenn I think that is a mish mash. Pro XL front arms and standard Ultima rear arms I think. Pro XL style chassis with aftermarket motor mount

Motor is a check point team platinum i got a few love them
..green ultima, noice
Would be good to look at these and compare the timeline with the Triumph.

I prefer the Platinum shocks over the gold ones.
They need to bring it back under the legend series cars.
I'm wanting to say that the motor mount/heat sink was a unit made by LiteSpeed.
The Ultima 2 was after the Turbo Ultima. It kinda has a tub chassis.
Isn't that a Black Magic motor?
I have no idea about the kyosho cars, so no idea what hop ups are fitted 😂 im looking out for an ultima 2 i think i need one atleast in the collection 😂
The Ultima that won the worlds had a flat carbon Trinity chassis, didn’t it? Not the metal ladder.
Looks like a Factory Works steering set-up on it or an RC 10 set up?

Optima mid rear wheels
The Pro looks to be a shorter wheelbase?
Also that isn't the original top deck. Chassis looks a bit thick for stock
Not really the speed control is a Novak t1x i think.
The ESC is a Novak.
Pan chassis.
