Where I've found the paddle shifters in the Pajero Sport useful is in mountain driving - both for climbing and descending. The manual-shift mode is good for holding gears to let you maintain peak torque or compression braking, and it's very easy with the paddle shifters to just flick gears as you need to to maintain both of those. You don't have to move the shift lever to activate the manual-shift mode - as soon as you use the paddle shifter it engages, and you just long-hold the gear-up paddle to go back to auto mode. I semi-regularly have to cross a mountain range to get from place to place, and I've very much enjoyed having the paddle shifters for that.
I bought the MUX last year although I was tossing up between the two. Personally I wanted the truck like and proven reliability of the Isuzu engine. I do believe I would of been happy with whichever car I bought but over the moon with MUX offload performance. Each to their own.
The 4jj1 is a truck like motor - slow yes. Benefits, tough (have 2009 colorado which is an Isuzu)- no motor defects or work 280K. First brake replacements at 250k. About to upgrade to DMAX with 4JJ1 motor. When towing a camper around Australia - no motor/drivetrain issues. Love the reliability (i am a landcruisre nut btw) Love the 4jj1 - it is UNBREAKABLE. And this is ALWAYS more important than a factory fitted radio that does android auto/iphone equivalent to me its my choice! If you are towing - Triton is terrbile - black stuff or dirt.
I've drove both and the Isuzu feels more like a truck than an SUV, The Pajero Sport drives more smooth and I found better off road stock standard. But both cars are better than the competition
Pajero has better interior however once u try it u will find the biggest issue, the pajero is so narrow and third row is completely useless, unlike the mux, u can fit 3 people in the second row and anyone below 170cm could fit the third row nicely. That's the main reason I choose mux.
Found the same thing. If you want to hold a gear on a snowy descent, they are great. They are also great to pre-empt the gearbox and force a kickdown when overtaking.
Mux is my choice to take on hardcore 4wd like cape York, but the Pajero sport is my choice for a family camping car to tow a caravan but still go 4wd like go on the beach
Last month after looking at these both I chose MU-X because of the better 3rd row seat access when you have a child seat in 2nd row and felt like More space inside and Mu-x rear looks better than PS specially with tow-bar :)
The Isuzu has 2 major reliability problems unfortunately. The 4JJ1 engine suffers from carbon build up worse than other engines, but the biggest worry is the weak chassis. Adding a bull bar and winch especially causes too much flex in the chassis which cracks the front subframe around the strut towers. There are a few companies around now dedicated to fixing and strengthening damaged Isuzu chassis.
Isuzu has less electronics, has a simpler engine setup, will definitely outlast the pajero sport, but if u want a more refined ride, take the mitsubishi
Mux is one of the most underrated 4 wheeler, I’ve owned both of them, got my Pajero early last year and mux 2 months ago and I have to admit izuzu edges the mitsu, but each to their own
Isuzu doesn't need that fancy mode things like the pajero for me isuzu is a go anywhere vehicle i have no doubts and regrets in my Mu-x 3.0 4x4 A/T simple, robust, enough power an all arounder suv😊🤘 for me....
I had a Jackaroo years ago, the fore-runner of the MUX. It had no traction aids at all but still went all over the Vic High country tracks. Sadly Isuzu lost it's way with the interiors of the MUX/D-MAX and I could never bring myself to accept how bad they are. The Jackaroo was way, way better. Also Isuzu messed with the rear axle housing on the MUX/D-Max, and they are prone to breaking in half, something that never happened in the Jackaroos which had bulletproof axles and diffs. Lets hope the long awaited update fixes things, especially the weak axle and crap interior. On looks, neither is fantastic, the MUX has a bad c-pillar area but imagine walking behind the Pajero on your way to the drivers door (as I do in my garage) every day - cleaning up the spew each time you look at the rear end of it would get tiresome.
Owned Mitsubishi Monterro Sport for 1 year and 9 months, loved top to bottom and made me sad when I was selling it. I will definitely buy 1 soon in future, hope they get it upgraded with more features.
The mux is almost identical to the chev trailblazer... Wonderful vehicle but this time i will go with the pajero. It has been updated recently... Good value for your money here. Avi in South Africa Durban.
Super select really makes a difference on road and in poor conditions and when towing on hard surfaces where sharing the drive across both axles really adds to grip.
Great review Sam. You packed a lot of information into just a few minutes. I also agree with your choice. The Isuzu is falling behind in terms of technology and driver dynamics. (My opinion).
judging by the way the Isuzu performs on 4wd action videos, I would take the mux hands down over the mitsu any day. And Graham Cahill doesn't drive his near standard Isuzu too hard either and it still keeps up with the other 'highly modified' 4wds on those hard tracks they drive.
Can I suggest if you're going to compare 4WD's off road, that getting the basics right, like holding the steering wheel correctly, would add to your credibility. I'm thinking that tyre pressures could go down a bit too. Maybe time to do a 4WD course
Youre right the way he failed to drive up that hill was embarrassing... Oh wait he did it easily. Maybe the tyre pressure was fine and he managed to steer the right way after all. Can I suggest you stop being a giant girls blouse.
Think it's still 2 years away. isuzu will put the new dmax to market at least 12months before the MUX. But the new one will be the ute based SUV to beat👍🏻👍🏻
so which one if these two have more comfortable ride? and is the difference is significance? because he should comparing the 2 cars but instead he only review each car without comparing the two car directly
and guess what the mu-x ls-u that we receive is the actual bottom of the range not even sold in s/e asia this can be checked anytime just by going to Isuzu Thailand , if Isuzu ever get serious about getting better quality vehicles here they will wipe the market clean and the so called bar will be raised extremely high for the rest of the competitors
The pajero looks futuristic, this mitsubishi has a different name for every market. mitsubishi just needs to stick with one. you have Montero, Pajero and Shogun.
Does anyone know if the montero or pajero sport have a tow hitch? I haven't seen any with and I want to put on a bike carrier for a dirt bike. If it doesn't, is there a way to professionally install one on there?
Hey, I'm in Aus and use my paj sport to tow a horse trailer. The towing set up was an additional cost to add on here, but it is made by Mitsubishi and it was installed by the dealership before we took our car home. A lot of people here use them to tow caravans and boats too.
Fortuner , mux , forget the rest , even ranger 3.2 auto facing torque converter claim under warranty , lol 😆 😂 , hilux 400k km 2004 still running happily
I drive (and tow) with a 2011 Pajero Exceed. Met a guy who had towed with the Pajero, had an accident, and his son talked him into a MUX replacement. Said he regretted not having the ride of the Pajero as the MUX was "to truck like".
If you fall for the usual "Fortuner is the best because it's a Toyota" trope, it would be, but if you're a consumer who uses his brain rather than be swayed by the general consensus then it's easy that the Fortuner is hardly within a shout of being the best ute-based 4WD SUV. Lacks quite a bit of basic kit, drab interior, crap infotainment system, too basic of a 4WD system, in short, not worth the high asking price. Don't forget the DPF fiasco experienced generally by Ozzy and Kiwi owners.. so..
The Pilot Ok it is very simple would YOI Buy a Car that wa NAMED, BASTARD, or BULLSHITER, or WORSE??? PROBABLY NOT.."PAJERO" IS A BULLSHITER WHO MASTURBATES👎👎👎
Finally an Aussie not advertising Ford Ranger/Everest in a so called comparison video

We dont get that MUX in the UK, it looks like a modern day version of the Trooper we used to have. Shame we cant have this.
Any issues by not having a diff lock?

Pajero Sports traction control is amazingly responsive in rock mode. Both a great 4x4's.
I've drove both and the Isuzu feels more like a truck than an SUV, The Pajero Sport drives more smooth and I found better off road stock standard. But both cars are better than the competition
The MUX was clearly better off road in this video than the Pajero.
Ein Felder what do you base your comment on ?
Montero in the refinement department, no interior diesel rattle and an 8 speed cvt like transmission.
Pajero has better interior however once u try it u will find the biggest issue, the pajero is so narrow and third row is completely useless, unlike the mux, u can fit 3 people in the second row and anyone below 170cm could fit the third row nicely. That's the main reason I choose mux.
Satisfied MUX 3.0 4x4 owner from the Phillipines. Thanks for sharing your video review..
Hehehe pareho tayu pre
Isuzu reliability is a Beast!
The paddle shifters are great for off road use for proper gear control.
They're really great when towing, or travelling on snowy/icey hilly roads too, so you can downshift to control speed.
@@mattheginger the paddle shifts kind of make a cluth obsolete
Found the same thing. If you want to hold a gear on a snowy descent, they are great. They are also great to pre-empt the gearbox and force a kickdown when overtaking.
Yup. I also use the paddle shifters for down shifting and holding gear.
when you are towing, you really need the right gear while facing up hills, strong wind. I like this function tbh.
Definitely Pajero will be my next acquisition.

Loibz front looks good, interior literally the same but I thought they’d fix those hideous tail lights lol🤦🏻♂️

Isuzu's traction control is more than enough.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 👍👍👌👌👌👍👍

Good review, gives some good positives about the Mitsubishi to keep it on my list.
Mitsubishi pajero best in all categories
my father in law bought sportivo 16yrs ago, until these days,, its giving No prob at all.. design and everything is simple. but the engine reliable..

Good Choice!❤
Pajero Sport.
LSU with 3 accessories today $60,883 drive away.
The best mux interior and exterior with monitor inside the cabin
Wonderful review, with the comparison of off roading abilities 👍👍
isuzu is a beast same line with toyota.
really good review
I Bought the NU-X and the reason is that i tow a caravan and found that the 8 speed in the Pajero hunted to much towing the caravan

The sport looks good front and side but how could Mitsubishi even entertain the look of the rear? Much less produce it? What a joke
Pajero Sport is better in design.
Shouldn’t you guys be doing this comparison in the very near future when the MU-X is getting an update?

Pajero definitely for on road comfort and off road performance. Interior is better too. The mux is lacking features in these areas.
Mitsubishi pajero is the SUV king of cross country off-road rally racing champions hold titles Guinness book

Here in the Philippines its Montero Sport
Yeah its weird. Why do they do that ?
I felt Pajero was struggling to climb that terrain whereas Mux (though driver wasn't confident enough ) move it like a charm👍
Its good you felt that. Now look. It never struggled. Wheel slip never stopped.
Would like some slippery mud and slopes test.

Mitsubishi Super select 2 4WD
He basically says the Isuzu is better head to head - then says buy the Pajero.????
Pajero like if u agree..
The older Jack's had the option of lsd
Fair review, if towing a caravan around Australia which would you choose?
MUX is the no-brainer for towing.
You see more mu-x than any other suv towing in the bush

Future vs classic, why pay the same money for outdated tech and no difflock?

I remember the good old days when Mitsubishi Pajiro was winning Dakar and evo WRC
