- Last week we took our New-2-U drift boat on an inaugural float to see how bad it really was.
The answer? Pretty bad. A lot of work was needed if we wanted to keep using this thing.
We sanded, fiberglassed, painted, and with the help of a lot of marine epoxy we had a boat in working order!
Stay tuned next week for Episode 3 where we take the boat to float a famous western trout river to put the build to the test!

I love to see old boats brought back to life….and Hi Pete!
....probably wont even get to fish in it ever. It's fine, I'm fine.
After having done a few of this type of boat in the past a good belt sander is the safest way and fastest way to strip off everything from old paint/varnish to old fiberglass. We learned the hard way burning out two orbitals'. Good luck and fallowing sea's.

The cross pieces you removed add rigidity to the frame . Removing them may not help performance when rowing
Put the support back in on the floor under the rowers seat. No issue with rigidity.

Pete didn't do hardly any work. Mostly it was complaining.
Definitely looks like the transom got some work done. Looks way more solid!
I think you'd still be there in 2025 if you stuck with the original sandpaper and sander.

Forgot to record the last bit of the boat?? Got to the last player of paint on the bottom then the next clip was a new boat.
