  • You might remember a post from our Instagram page about a year ago asking if any fans out there had a wooden boat they would be willing to part with that needed some work. A fan from north Carolina hit us up and said he would trade some BLC flies for a boat he had been working on. When Adam was back in Alabama guiding for a month he decided to pick this boat up and get it back to SLC to rebuild it. BLC Project: Wooden Drift Boat was born.
Stay tuned next week for Episode 2 where we rebuild the boat and Episode 3 where we take the final product out on the water and get a review from a famous western guide.
Special thanks to TroutRoutes for helping with this project.

The “tippiness” could be the result of a few things: 1. Design 2. Additions. But ultimately it’s about your center of gravity being too close to your center of buoyancy; in other words you need to drop your center of gravity because there’s not much you could do about the hull design. Some things you could do are: 1. Lower the seats (as mentioned) 2. Use lighter seats (rope maybe?) 3. Add a plywood shoe to the bottom of the hull 4. Add rub rails 5. Use lighter oars 6. Replace the line deck with lighter materials 7. Make sure distribution of gear is low and evenly balanced.

I think it’s a diamond in the rough… a few tweaks (mainly a plethora of cup holders) and it’ll be fantastic!
