This video is way above my ability but is extremely useful to me. Even with just noodling around a bit I can see how much my range, sound and power have expanded. Thank you so much. I've been using it a couple of times/week as the later part of my warm-ups and I really see and hear the improvement the songs that I'm working. on.
Jeff, I've been using this video for a few months now and wow, do I hear the difference in my voice. Thank you so much for this. Would love more on the passaggio as I'm still trying to build all parts of it. I'm more of a baritone and am trying to build my mix but it's hard to know exactly how to build the musculature. My teacher and I both love your work. Please keep posting.
Thank you Neil. Definitely plan on doing more on this subject! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Thank you Jeff! I can't wait. Merry Christmas right back at you. @@JeffAlaniStanfill
One of the most powerful, informative and enjoyable vocal training videos Ive ever seen. It's refreshing to see a vocal teacher who is also a great singer. After trying the techniques in this video I found myself saying 'what passagio?"
Peter Kalmus thank you for your thoughtful and kind comment! Glad the exercises are working for you!!
Great video! Being a tenor, the passagio is so tricky to master. These are great exercises.
Matthew Daniel Gordon thanks so much Matthew! You are an amazing tenor and it is an a joy to see and hear your voice soar year after year!
Hahahaha. You think it’s hard being a tenor thru the passagio? Lol. Try being a true bass. 😉
Thanks Jeff Alani you are amazing ! 👌🏻 I’m gonna take this video as a daily warm up ! Best warm up ever 👏🏼
Alban Gueidao thanks so much! New video coming out today with a really cool exercise and concept. Happy you’re finding the exercises helpful! 🎤🕺🎶🎶🎶
I watched this again today - and had two lightbulb moments/discoveries. Thank you, Jeff. These videos keep on giving! :)

I am very happy that the tutorials
are helpful! More to come! Thank you for the lovely comment.
Thanks Jeff, very inspiring. And also love the background, makes me feel like im back in Verona or somewhere! Thanks,Colin.
I’ve been singing essentially wrong all my pretty long life. I am what I refer to as a necktie tenor. Many years ago, I had a successful 20 year Broadway run, followed by 25 years of inactivity. Recently, I have been taking voice lessons again, hoping to find that elusive passagio. Typically, up until now, I would belt to E4 or some days F4, then yodel into falsetto! My voice teacher tends to lead me to lower keys, basically reasoning why sing up there, but most contemporary musical theatre songs too damn high for me. I will definitely replay this video hoping to find that tilt and placement that you describe. Thanks!
Hi Jack. I hope you find the tutorial helpful. And if you are looking to take this further, please contact me for online one on one instruction at jeff@voicesoaring.com

Gabriel Jimenez Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind comment. I am so happy that the exercises and concepts have helped you! Please feel free to share this video with your fellow singers. Happy singing 🎤
Hi Jeff! Great video. Was wondering if you could post a video regarding the mental aspect of singing, i.e., how to get out of your head while singing so that the technique can serve the song? Or how to stop the self-judgement long enough to actually allow the voice to improve? Love your videos. A rare teacher indeed
Hey Justin! Thank you so much for the kind comment and for the wonderful suggestion. The mental aspect of singing and getting out of your way is truly an important one to cover. I recommend checking this video out by the great mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato: ua-cam.com/video/krI-UnjIu_U/v-deo.html
I've shared this with many students and fellow teachers over the years and they've all learned from it. Hope you enjoy it! Peace and harmony to you, Jeff
Jeff Alani Stanfill awesome! Thank you Jeff! And thank you for sharing your talent with us and posting these videos. They are my “go-to” vocal warm up and the best I’ve found .
Awesome! I love the interactive lesson!
Thank you! It was great fun working with David!
@@JeffAlaniStanfill looks like it! I love that he is such an experienced singer/teacher yet so teachable and open to what you teach him!
Awesome exercises Jeff :-)
Thanks so much Paloma! Glad you're finding them helpful. :-)
I also purchased a Superior Health 3 pack which includes the throat saver and sinus cleanse. Ill let you know how they work for me!
u likin it so far?
@@eyumbreal6305 Yes, its working for me pretty well, esoecially the Throat Saver. Living in Houston, I seem to have year around allergies so its challenging, but using these products seem to be helping.
Excellent video and demonstrations by both of you. My tenor voice feels like a brand new Ferrari after doing these wonderful and efficient exercises. Ill be doing with my students as well!!
Thanks so much Charles! Ferrari! That's very cool :-)
I've been practicing my voice for 2 months but my passagio sounds very hoarse when I sing it lightly. My chest voice and head voice are fine (not hoarse). Does that mean my passagio is absolutely terrible, or did I damage it?
Terrific video. I have rediscovered my upper extension because of watching your videos and retraining my voice. For years I tried to push my chest voice up above the passaggio and as you know that does not work. I have never been a high tenor but now I am ale to vocalise up to an E flat above high C using this technique. I do have a question about resonance. When I reach A flat above my primo passaggio to high C I am able to sustain the note but it lacks power. It is not falsetto, but sounds weaker on recording than it should. Is there a particular exercise to help with this. Thanks so much for all of your wonderful teaching!
David Hamilton Hello! First off thanks so much for your wonderful comments and I am so happy that the exercises are helping you discover your upper register.
Although it would be difficult to assess your voice without hearing it, I can give you a tip that might help.
As you ascend in your scale, try placing a hand firmly on your sternum and gently pressing down on it as you ascend. This will allow the back rib cage to stay open and will create more sub-glottic compression which will in turn, keep the cords more firmly together for the upper note and therefore create more of a chestier sound without actually inviting the check voice to pull up.
I hope this helps!
Happy singing to you, and thanks for watching! Peace, Jeff
Great video! ...And such a beautiful tenors😍
I am from Europe and I would like to know whether these products will be available here soon? I just purchased the book Superior Vocal health. I myself am very interested in natural remedies and was looking through internet to see if there is something specific for the voice (herbs, oils...) and found out the book and the products. I found the book here, but not the products. The shipping from US is a bit expensive (like half of the price of the 4 products).
Thank you
Hello there. I don't know if the products will be available in Europe, but you can write them at this link:vocalcure.com/contact
Can lower voice male expect vocal chesty resonace with power above C4 cause I feel the only reason the head voice pull works so well for him is because his a tenor and a baritone or bass might not be able to get half as much sound in the upper register
this is incredible. was wondering if the first few exercises are all in head voice? or are all the exercises in a mix
Hi Nikhil. All of the beginning exercises are in a light head/mix. In my opinion, it os always best to start a vocal warm up in a light mix, while keeping a connection to the chest voice. Thank you for watching and we hope you are subscribed to the channel! Peace and happy singing to you! Jeff
By the way, you have a wonderful voice!
I have been trying the preyawn during my breaths....you say we should feel a wide and high soft palate but when I try it I don't know what am feeling..could you break down the sensation one should actually feel if he does the preyawn exercise
I am in the planning stages for a tutorial on the soft palate and how to utilize it to it's best efficiency. Thank you for your comment! Let me know if I can mention your name in that future tutorial.
who was your teacher at NEC? I am a local Massachusetts tenor getting my masters at The Manhattan School of music but I know a lot of their faculty!
Hey Travis. I studied with the late Edward Zambara way back in 1990. He was a wonderful teacher.
Thank you for this great tutorial. Great exercises, as always, Jeff! P.S. I love the Throat Saver!
Thank you so much Debra!!!! And yes, Throat Saver is a miracle in a bottle!
As a lower voiced male..my larynx rises so high at E5...does this mean I'm singing with a closed throat or I'm pushing my breath or its just my vocal anatomy
Is your throat rising up or or your larynx? The larynx does come up at E5, but should not feel like your entire throat is rising upwards. That is definitely a sigh the throat muscles are squeezing.
@@JeffAlaniStanfill definitely feels like a tightness and no space to go on
Great video. That's what I call tenor technique.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
jungkook Daily vocal exercises please.
I am a baritone and will this excercise work for me? Or is it only for tenors?
These exercises are good for all male voices! Thanks for watching and hope you’re subscribed to the channel!
@@JeffAlaniStanfill thank you so much! Will defenitely practice this and yes I have subscribed!
Its was really interesting to see him struggle through a contemporary song (his voice is still amazing) but it makes you realize how much control and perfect placement of the voice opera singer have because of the requirement to sing over an orchestra, contemporary is able to be more “lazy” for lack of a better word.
How the heeell is the tongue lip roll?
Are you asking how to do the tongue lip roll Alvaro?
Jeff Alani Stanfill yes plsss
Jeff Alani Stanfill can u hlep me?
@@alvaroromerohernandez1778 I will be doing a tutorial on the tongue/lip trill in a future episode so be sure and turn the notifications button on if you are subscribed. Until then, you can you lip trills or rolled R's as a replacement. Peace and happy singing!
Jeff Alani Stanfill thankss!!
Is it me or is that piano out of tune? 21:30
Oh it’s for sure a little out of tune! This was filmed at the largest rehearsal studio in NYC and the pianos are played constantly. 😂
