    Pro-tip: Once you've finished the knot, there are two sides: one with the loose end in front of the folded loop, and one with the folded loop in front of the loose end. On the side where the folded loop is in front of the loose end (should be your left side), take a bobby pin and slip it over the loose end and the back part of the folded loop. If you've done it right, the front of the folded loop should conceal the bobby pin, and the bobby pin will help hold your tie together for the rest of the day. I do this especially when attending events to keep my tie looking crisp and sharp.

    G'day Brett,
    In my 45 years of existence I have never once worn a bow tie (standard neck tie plenty, but never bow). Thanks for making an easy to follow video. It worked a treat and I nailed the bow tie first try after watching you do it.
    Top stuff, keep up the good work.

    THANK YOU!!!!!
    Your Four Original 'How to Tie a Tie' vids were Really well made, and made us long for one about the Bowtie
    Yes, it's a 'less common need' but still it's a Man Skill, and more to the point, a Gentleman's Skill, every guy should know.
    Personally, was supposed to be attending a Wedding in early May, and was frustrated, cause the Bow Tie completely confuses us.
    THANK YOU

    With the help of this video, I cut apart one of my daughter's black unitards, (yes, I typed that *shudder*) shaped it into a bowtie with scissors, and learned to tie it correctly for my son's Abe Lincoln costume for the school play. Thanks for teaching me how to tie it right. Sorry I one-upped things by actually *making* it too--if only out of a toddler's unitard....but I'm a chick, so we're resourceful like that. Good video.

    Brett, I work at a local news station in SW Oklahoma as a photographer and I have a production suggestion. By investing in a lavalier mic you will greatly enhance the clarity of the audio in your videos, and in doing so, the entire presentation becomes more palatable and immersive. It's worth it if you're attempting to make these videos a larger part of the AoM. Just some friendly advice.

    I'd never wear a clip-on or pre-tied regular tie, so years ago, I upped my game with a standard bow ties for my tuxes. But the first time each tux season (we've got about 3 black-tie events each Fall), I need to review how to tie it. Calling out the tricky step helped me as did mentioning that you tighten the knot by pulling the two folded ends

    I like a nice small tight knot so I pull on the middle (out of the three pieces of fabric) piece to draw the knot in tightly. I then gently adjust using the third (back/last/free piece) piece to expand the backwing to to re-align the back wings with the front bow on either side of the knot.

    Good demonstration. Once you start wearing a tied bow tie, the pretied kind feel strange. I forced myself to learn this about 14 years ago by buying a bow tie with my tux for singing. It took quite a few tries following the small card of illustrated instructions, but eventually it clicked.

  • @matts.6234
    @matts.6234 11 років тому

    This helps a lot, but another tip that helps is to tighten it a LOT when you tie the first knot at around 0:46, because if you look at it, the same knot that ties around your neck also ties around in the center of the bow, so if you tighten it a lot, then you can tighten it to make it look better and have it a comfortable fit.
