    2. Bring a picture . A visual actually helps a lot
    3. Be honest with your barber . It’s ok to be picky because it’s your hair and u want it a certain way

      @jasonkelly1692 5 років тому +8

@@wrathfullys That's really more of a salonist's job. Many men feel uncomfortable going to a salon, however, due to gender associations.
Generally a good rule to follow is a salon for the top, and a barber for the face. Salons handle women more and are thus much better at hair and fitting styles to faces, whereas the male-dominated barber is, obviously, going to be less experienced with complicated hairdos but will handle facial hair like an absolute unit.

Normally I just say cut the sides short and cut the top by half but now that I'm older I feel I'm leaving out too much detail. My normal barbers just cut whatever they think I mean so every time I go my haircut looks slightly different. They also won't cut the sides flat, so my head is like an upside down egg

You sit down, he walks a few circles around you while scratching his chin, he cuts your hair, and you look great every time. While this generally works, one of the worst haircuts I've ever had involved me giving my usual description (3 on top, 1 1/2 on the sides, long taper, blocked in the back). I got no taper at all and a ragged neckline. So, step #0, especially if you get a clipper cut, is to find someone whose hair looks good and ask where he gets it cut.

Thank you for giving these tips. Last haircut I had completely unevenly cut the above the ear fade. I told my regular stylist it was an important cut as I’m going to vacation in Palm Springs. I wear glasses, so if this isn’t done well, the hair sticks out from the frames. She’s always had a problem with this. Before she worked on the ears, she had someone come in wanting to buy gift certificates so she rushed my cut and was a 1/4 inch difference on the ears! I was self-conscious about it the whole vacation. I will never go back to her again.

Wow... I always wanted to find a barber shop around me that was a little old school like you guys recommend, as it is easier to just go to a Sportsclip or something like that. But now that I have found a barber shop (I Have yet to visit) I know exactly how to tell the guy what I would like. I have never heard any tips given like this before. Thank you guys for posting this and for helping a young lad like me communicate better with my barber.

Etc) that barber hears every single day. Along with clients cliches (there you go.. I feel ya.. it is what it is. Etc) and don't have the same conversation with him every time you go in..
Keep in mind, a barbershop is 90% bullshit... But if you feel him speeding up on your haircut as he's cutting your hair, it might be a good idea to shut up.

The all out best thing to say is "hello" or some other kind of greeting first. A lot of people walk in, and because they're fixed on what they need, just start asking or demanding things like; "how long before me", "do I have to wait", or "how much is it".
Where those questions are expected some kind of greeting first is awesomely appreciated when people walk in.

Though I will say that at said salons populated with women hair "stylists" I did get one bad haircut once. And by "bad" I mean she missed a spot on the back left of my neck. I just shaved it off when I got home.
But yeah my hair is so thick I can literally do NOTHING with it. Just "shorter". And once I get a job I'll buy my own set of sheers and just do it myself.

Another thing, avoid being overly specific in terms of how you want us to do what you want done. I'm talking about clients that try to map out a haircut for us, like a number one here, then fade up to here with a number 7, and then cut like this, etc. Stuff like this is usually more restricting, especially when you (the client) don't know a darn thing about cutting hair, and you usually sound silly and misuse terminology. You'll get a much better cut if you answer our questions, and just let us do our thing within the realm of your answers.
How do you wear your hair? Do you want to be able to comb it? Do you usually style your hair? How close do you like your sides? We ask you questions to figure out what you want. If you don't know what you want, it's our job to probe.
Also, if you're a grown man, don't bring your wife or girlfriend to talk to the barber for you lol Unless she's cutting your hair or I'm cutting her hair, I don't need to talk to her!

The problem is: i don't have any idea what kind of haircut i want, or what kind of haircut will suit met. Another problem: the closest and most affordable real barbershop has turkish barbers, so i'm not even sure they speak my language, lol(last time i checked they didn't, instead they've got a boy-translator).

Look online for haircuts for men with your hair type. If you like one, try it. Generally the rule of thumb is that if you have a wider head, you want to go short on the sides and longer on top to elongate the look of your head. If you have an already long head, you generally want a haircut that gives your head a wider appearance. You also have to consider your jaw line. If you have a super square jaw, and you get a super boxy hair cut, your head is going to be a square, so you should avoid haircuts the stand up in a boxy symmetrical way, unless you're going for a square look. Thats the gist of it

I have a simple skin fade with a scissor cut on top. I do it myself then that way I can do it exactly how I like it. It's taken 5 or 6 cuts to learn how to do it. But now I scissor cut the top every month, and keep the sides and back looking fresh every few days, and don't have to leave the house or pay for it. If you have a short haircut I highly recommend just trial and error learning to do it yourself
