1:17 Why length is important to how your bow tie looks

4:32 Getting the bow tie shape
    5:42 Forming your bow tie
8:08 Tightening your bow tie - the magic!
11:30 Where you can buy a bow tie
I go through each step slowly, making it easy for you to follow along with me. So, whether you're a complete beginner or if you've struggled before, I'm going to get you to tie a bow tie today. One you can be proud of!
Why am I able to help when you haven't been able to do it before?
Well, just a couple of months ago I couldn't tie a bow tie either. I went through the same thing as you are right now, watching video after video because I couldn't get it right. That's because most videos skip over too quickly, or completely miss out, some of the steps of tying a bow tie.
So in this video, I make sure that I cover the two critical steps where most people go wrong or give up. And you'll get a close-up view of the most critical steps.
    Tying it yourself…
Important: When tying your bow tie, stand in front of a mirror - it's MUCH easier to do it this way.
Here are the 5 steps to tying a bow tie yourself:
    1. Length
An important step which most videos skip.
    2. The first knot
Unlike almost every other video I've seen, I'm not going to tell you to have one side lower than the other. What's more important is the placement of the first knot.
    3. Getting the bow shape
This is where you'll get an idea of how your bow tie will look from the front and how wide your bow will be. If it looks too wide or narrow, go back to step one because you'll need to adjust the length.
    4. [First critical step] The second knot
When I first learnt to tie a bow tie, this is the part I got stuck on. So try not to rush it.
    5. [Second critical and final step] Adjustments - (Here comes the magic!)
Hopefully you haven't given up yet because this is where it all happens and yet again most videos don't cover this in enough detail. I've got you covered!
Once you've mastered tying a self-tie bow tie, take a look here to add to your collection www.blueeyesbowties.com. You'll find bow ties for any occasion; wedding, prom or just because you're a fashion-conscious bow tie wearer!

Excellent. The length, never talked about in other videos. perfect. The detail of how and where of what. perfect. I was asked to tie my employers tie for a very very important Banquet bowtie event with over a 1000 people there. He arrived with security walking up to me, handed me his tie and I put it over his neck and proceeded to nail it first try while on him with many people watching. Pressure like you would not believe. I snugged it and told him he was a handsome man. he thanked me. 100% true billionaire story.

The first video I've seen that shows what to do behind the first half of the bow. I was having so much trouble figuring out how to get the back half right until I watched this video.

That's the part of the tying process that we wanted to highlight - it's the bit many videos seemed to miss out. Glad it worked for you!

Thanks for the detailed video, finally managed to get a massive bow tie, now to reduce length and get something less appropriate for a circus clown😂

Brilliant video, well explained. I was struggling with the critical parts of the technique which wasn't explained too well in other videos, but your explanation on how to position the fingers and how to find the thumb really helped me to get it right.

I'm so glad you found the pace of our video helpful - it's something we are sometimes criticised for, but the whole reason we did it like that is because we found other videos didn't give certain steps the time they need. Thank you!

This is the best video I’ve found for tying a bow tie. Thanks! Now that I’ve practiced it a lot, Here are two additional lessons learned: 1) To avoid major adjustment in that last step…In step one, you’ve got to pull the two ends until snug. But that makes the material bunch up. If you make sure the material lays flat it is much easier to do the later step of putting the bow through the back hole. 2) Might want to train up a close friend to tie it for you. After learning how to tie the bow tie on myself, it wasn’t too hard to figure out how tie it around my husband’s neck (my ultimate goal). I found it much easier to tie it on him than myself.

Thank you so much for making this video. I found step 5 critical, in particular when you explain that to tighten, you pull on the back of the right loop and the front of the left loop. Many other bowtie tutorials omit this detail! (I kept fiddling around with the loops and flaps, unable to actually tighten the center of the bow.) Also, your method of using a straight index finger to fold the edge of the first loop is very helpful.

Thanks Arthur! We're really glad the video helped you - it's particularly good to hear that the bit we added (that most videos miss out) was useful. That's one of the main reasons we made this video. Thanks again!
