I really appreciate how you broke down the reasons that you love each of the books and I would say you have compelling reasons for ranking them in the order that you did, great video!
I haven’t read the books yet but I’m going to read them soon. I have been watching a lot of book rankings and I realized that 99% of the time Chamber Of Secrets is their least favorite.
Ohh hopefully you enjoy them! Yes I think it’s a common least favorite, but I understand why people like it a lot too! I think I just outgrew it a little 🤷🏼♀️
Goblet of fire is definitely my favourite. Hermione is my favourite characters and in Goblet she’s an absolute badass when she captures Rita Skeeter and keeps her in a jar.
Yes she was absolutely unmatched in that and I loved it! I was a little sad the S.P.E.W. stuff didn't quite make it into the movie as I think in general Hermione had such interesting development! It's a shame S.P.E.W. didn't make it but her makeover did, but that's a movie adaptation I suppose.
I’ll be honest... I always completely forget about Order of the Phoenix haha even though that big thing happens at the end that should make it memorable for me
Very Interesting list and nice to see someone putting the GoF first! The middle of my list is always changing but I’d go 1. Half-blood prince 2. Deathly hallows 3. Goblet if fire 4. Prisoner of Azkaban 5. Order of the Phoenix 6. Philosophers stone 7. Chamber of secrets
Thank you! Yes, lately GoF has been up there and DH has really moved up, I think. I enjoy the horcrux-hunting. CoS just feels a bit too young for my adult self haha but it seems it also falls last for you too at the moment! Mine is definitely pretty fluid as well though.
@@kaylachristenson9664 ya I only read them for the first time last year and I’m 18 so I did find CoS a bit too young also lol. I feel as though my list will change as I’m planning to read them for a second time this Christmas I think!
TDH has to be in everyones top 3! lol. mine from least to best would have to be order of the pheonix (to long), chamber of secrets, prisoner of askaban, philosophers stone, goblet of fire, deathly hallows, and the half blood prince.
OotP is super long! Sometimes that’s a good things, sometimes not haha. DH is good for sure! It was pretty recently my number 2, but it shifted (once again lol). It’s hard to keep it constant because I think it depends on my mood? HBP has grown on me A LOT since I first read it!
Lovely list! Goblet of Fire was always one of my favorites growing up, and I know it was BY FAR my father’s favorite haha. I’m going to get some hate for my bottom placement, but bear with me: 7. Deathly Hallows (Deathly Hallows gets lower and lower on my list as time goes on to be honest. It’s a great end for a series on an emotional level, but I really dislike J.K. Rowling’s need to introduce last minute lore at the very end of the series. It makes it feel tacked on, you know? You could even argue that the Horcruxes were introduced too late in the series with Half-Blood Prince, but that book at least had the benefit of focusing the entire plot around it. Deathly Hallows somehow manages to feel slowly paced and rushed at the the same time to me; it’s hard for me to explain. The camping ended up being my favorite part of the book, mainly just because it felt like a nice character study of our main trio. As for the epilogue, I didn’t like it either! It made the future too set in stone, so there’s very little room for the reader to be imaginative in interpretation. I also have an issue with time skips, but that’s a separate personal issue I have with off-screen development haha) 6. Goblet of Fire (this was originally in my top 3, but over time I sort of think that the hype of the plot was what made it so engaging to me. This book is really variable, so it can go from bottom of the list to very top on a whim depending on my mood. For now, I’ll put it here, but it often makes it above Order of the Phoenix on most days. This is the shonen book of the series, and I love it for that!. My issue with this book is more with how the characters are written. I’m not a fan of this western trend of teenagers being written like petty 7 year olds at times. I fully understand puberty has hormonal effects that can dictate behavior, but to the degree that nearly everyone can’t think rationally? It’s bit insulting, and it reminds me of how a 45 year old Hollywood executive thinks a 14 year old acts. I wouldn’t consider this an objective issue with the book itself, but it’s a bothersome trope that annoys me the more I read it. Teenagers and children can be way more mature than they’re often given credit for. Additionally, a lot of issues in this book could have been solved with proper communication, and that has always infuriated me since I first read it. Subsequently, the Hogwarts staff is blatantly irresponsible for not immediately conducting an investigation on how an underaged Wizard with a clear target on his back got his name in the Goblet. Mcgonagall is the only competent staff member in this book, I swear! This books has the lowest lows and highest highs for me, so it’s hard to place. It’s the “Saturday Night Wrist” of the series, if you will 😉) 5. Philosopher’s Stone (not much to say here, just a fantastic introduction and children’s book) 4. Chamber of Secrets (it’s aged better for me, but I can respect any placement for this one. Most people argue that PoA and GoF are where the series turns dark, but the seeds of it are really planted here with some of the plot developments. The writing style is still pretty lighthearted though, so it goes under the radar). 3. Order of the Phoenix (The community annoyingly blames Harry’s outbursts on teenage angst, which is really infuriating to me. He was genuinely struggling from trauma, and maybe I’m a bit biased with spite of the community for how it’s treated that, but I genuinely enjoyed Harry really taking some initiative. This book and PoA are where Harry actually goes out of his way to both learn and act) 2./1. Currently, Half-Blood Prince and PoA are tied for top rank. I can never really decide between these two, and it switches almost all the time for me. I’m a sucker for Time Travel of any kind, so long as its rules are maintained. While alternate timelines are a little more interesting to me in general, the closed loop approach made for some incredibly clever moments and twists in PoA! I fully admit that it probably wasn’t the best idea to include the time turner in a series where it would be a bit too sought after for its incredible power, but at the very least, it’s influence is subjugated to just closed loops where nothing can really “alter” the flow of time (Screw you, Cursed Child!). Half Blood-Prince is also masterful in my eyes. It’s fun to read, filled with incredible and interesting lore, and it fleshed out a lot of secondary characters which I really wanted to see. Ginny is so fun to read about as well! If I were to nitpick though, Ginny and Harry’s blossoming relationship was way too abrupt. I don’t know if I blame the book itself or the one before it, but there really should have been some more buildup besides just “ooh I guess I’m horny for you, now”. For example, perhaps an epilogue in Order of the Phoenix where the Dursleys leave the house for vacation during the summer, and the Weasleys come by to give Harry company? Something like that showing Ginny and Harry spending quality time together before the events of HBP would have made the transition lot nicer. I’m pretty sure that would break some continuity rules, but I hope you get the idea haha)
Ohh I actually have to agree with your thoughts on DH! It does feel like more was “tacked on” to tie up loose ends. A good ending, but definitely felt like some of the pieces were forced to fit together. Good point for OotP, it was full of “take charge” moments for Harry, which I have to admire. He could’ve been consumed with victim hood, but instead stepped up so much! Love Dumbledore’s Army too, what a cool group.
