Arya loses her sight. i didn't catch this part?
This was my first Stephen king book and I adored it, I thought it was like getting 2 stories in one. The ending made me so sad
I love that description - definitely felt like two stories in one! The ending was absolutely heartbreaking and honestly it is one of my favorites by him (maybe absolute favorite but that’s a hard choice haha). I hope you do end up reading more by him! This book has Shining Easter eggs so that could be a good next choice or maybe Cujo though it’s quite dark
1. Order of The Phoenix 2. Half-Blood Prince 3. Prisoner of Azkaban 4. Goblet of Fire 5. Deathly Hallows 6. Sorcerers Stone 7. Chamber of Secrets 8. Cursed Child
Actually i feel PoA and GoF is tied
Ooooh I didn’t even think to add cursed child! Definitely last for me as well haha OotP is such a long and rich story in itself and such an emotional part of the series.
2:00 tyrion does not figure it out. Holden told him
I love David so much. I’ve seen him live twice and both times were totally amaze balls. A long time ago, I went to visit a friend during his finals week. I had a day to myself whilst he was taking finals. I found Naked on his book shelf. To this day, it’s the only book I read in 24 hours. I love Mr. Sedaris dearly. He is way more gooder than the rest.
Yes! I’ve only seen him once but it was so special
Wait, Aemond did have a sapphire in his eye, why do you say it got cut out?
Melisandre is so delulu like you go girl!!! dilute yourself and misinterpret your visions!!! Give us nothing!!!!!! Also Asha Greyjoy (aka Yara on the show) is the only sane Greyjoy tbh, she is a bad bitch. I know that this video is old but I just finished the books and I'm digging up any ASOIAF discussion I can find and I like how chill yourself old recaps of them are❤
Hello Kayla Christenson Reads hello anyway this is indeed very heartwarming and very wonderful and very beautiful and this brings back such great memories of when I use to be a 90s kid and an early 2000s kid and I am a new subscriber as well:).
How dare you judge her for all the hookup stuff Sorry but that pissed me off It's almost as if she's just gotten out of an abusive relationship and is trying to regulate its almost as if she's struggled with homeless and she'sstarving for any kind of affection It's almost as if she had a fucked up childhood and a problematic mother and nothing in the past book actually helps her deal with it in a permanent way She just found the way to keep her head above water for a while and remove herself out of the abusive situation but she didn't heal therapeutically or otherwise Maybe she's not a perfect human being Maybe she is going through something extremely terrible and is dealing with it enough possibly maladaptive way because she has no resources or lacks the avenues to cope in a healthier way Like she's not some perfect person who just happened to her being in an abusive relationship she looked perfect Survivor To be fair I haven't read the book yet I'm just listening to you with you and I don't know how terrible she was, she could have went ridiculously too far but based on what I'm hearing I completely understand why she would go partying and have a pregnancy scare edit I'm meeting in the comments that she left her child with random men... And yeah that's terrible Maybe she didn't learn enough lessons on the first book Or maybe they framed what she learned wrong because geez
I understand I’m being judgmental and I have 3 small children. I can’t imagine a world in which I leave them with people I don’t know very well to go engage in risky behavior. This is something that could be understandable if she were very young but she is older than I am in this memoir so I will definitely judge her as a parent. I do commend her for including the less flattering parts of her story and I do think she’s an incredible writer. I don’t have to agree with her decisions and it isn’t meant as anything more than that 🤷🏼♀️ I’m hoping she turns her talents towards something other than memoirs as I’d be so interested to read more from her.
The world of ice and fire? Part of asoiaf. Gives more detail.
Curious about Euron after reading the Foresaken.
He is such an unnerving character
The broken man speech. Chills reading that.
Chyswyck's story was hard to read. I needed a wash after that. Probably the most difficult part of the book for me to read.
Read a book by this author. It was called Sundown Motel.
Can someone explain me what was the aim of this Cult and why the boys were murdered ? That’s a part of the book that I didn’t understood… thank you !
Goblet of fire is definitely my favourite. Hermione is my favourite characters and in Goblet she’s an absolute badass when she captures Rita Skeeter and keeps her in a jar.
Yes she was absolutely unmatched in that and I loved it! I was a little sad the S.P.E.W. stuff didn't quite make it into the movie as I think in general Hermione had such interesting development! It's a shame S.P.E.W. didn't make it but her makeover did, but that's a movie adaptation I suppose.
Good review
Gide, Andre (1925) The Counterfeiters A novel written in the form of a memoir - Edouard's/author's diary, without a substantive flow and connected plot, flooded with random dialogues of numerous characters. With the central character of the author "metabiotically" transformed in the form of Edouard, who along with writing his own novel keeps a diary about the progress of his work, representing a kind of autobiographical criticism. Putting aside the diversity of modernist expression and literary style, the novel "Money Counterfeiters" is essentially a dramatic text of narrative form written in the form of Edouard's findings according to the descriptions of memories, events, and experiences, which evoke a modernist stylistic opus of participation in the activity of appearance with heartbreaking undertones of dry realistic narration, which after a certain period of time take on an expression like: "The atmosphere in that room was so strict, it seemed that the flowers there had to wither immediately" Gide, Andre the comic book hero. However, not everything is so black, for this purpose, they were used - elements of suppressing dry narration shaped in a handful of random questions, thematically undefined dialogues with a focus on monologic "diaphragmatic" episodes constructed through the stream of thoughts, punctuated by short sentences and interruptions of own observations connected with occasional introspective inputs, not by allowing the breakdown of character, bypassing psychological characterization and skipping the action. The modernist expression of the novel represents a stylistic play of words - "games with glass beads", a literary solitaire of the brevity of thought, a prosaic expression that evokes the game of shadows, the interrupted action of simple-minded everyday events - presented in the youthful expression of the boyish characters Bernard, Olivier, and Georges through the modernist literary correlation of avant-garde personality traits in the archaic epochal period of the futuristic manifesto apostrophized in the wooden frame of the medieval French castle during the development of its own conception of the so-called"the interesting things", one to the other. The author through the peculiarities of the introspective characters - "All that exists for the subject is an imagination that at the same time cancels the psychological analysis of the property", which exists in the relational relationship of the self and the world builds the content and course of action of the work. With his distinctive style and his own modernist expression, he tries to grasp the single extension, to explain the generality with individuality - by describing the unequivocal feeling and state within a particular event, to arouse in the reader the presentation of a multi-meaningful creation in a dynamic action. The content of the novel structurally corresponds to the narration of a dramatic action written for a theater piece, a dialogical form with a multitude of didaskalia - monological figurations without conceptual connection and linguistic content, but rather the stigmatization of the narrator - the author foreshadowed in the role - the "traffic light narrator", the describer of minimalist depictions of life and vivid reality immersed indepictions of the characteristics and peculiarities of his own characters, trying to approach the artistic values contained in literary theory, which the author wants to frame in his own style, trying to use different semantic elements and sentence structures, with the exception of overly intellectually distinctive expressions that truly want to avoid stereotypical retelling, unfortunately without much success, remaining withwith the bitter taste of the presence of an atmosphere devoid of special literary inspiration, far from any recognizable style down to the previously mentioned didascal form of a theater piece accompanied by an undertone of comic elements. The work is characterized by a narrative content description of reality, without the influence of social constructivism, except for short religious taunts disguised with humor but intensely intellectually evoked. The most pronounced construction of the relationship between the characters is outlined in Vincent and Lilian, evoked in the aristocratic stylistic dialogue of Paris Alabaster, showing the dialogic framework of individuals about the peculiarities of their ownness and the interactive inclusion of individual sociality, imbued with sensitivities and ways of social expression, at the same time devoid of social dogmas, a dialogue freed from disputes, efforts, aspirations and materialized, caught in the trap of momentary which opens the way only in building one's own character. The main stylistic feature of the novel "Money Forgers" interwoven with modernist elements can be observed through three levels of "nominalization" starting from the metaphysical reality read in the framework of social constructivism and at the same time united in their artistic reflection presented by the conceptualization of the novel in the reflection of abstraction and reality as a reflection of the real versus the fictitious of money that circulates at the same time metaphorically loaded into the content of the novel - through imputing means by fickle youth misunderstood as a material artifact but a reflection of adolescent immaturity. Furthermore, with the level of "nominalization" which is apostrophized by the episode of Bernard's crystal coin, external gilding - symbolizing the superficiality of human characters - external social splendor and value, and internal vanity and insignificance. In a narratively written form from the background of the author's realistic-criminal mind, the archetype of the thief, fraudster, and social manipulator, at least this is the basis of his attempt, which is not achieved until the very successful initial manipulative retrospective intellectual games of high school peers' boys' jargon - which the author tries to transfer to higher levels, however, the matter ends in dry didascals of "poetic inflation". With a few more inspired stylistic episodes of intellectual play - content-wise, completely insignificant descriptions of the subjugation of Christian ideals by emphasizing the classically antique spirit and considering the scope of art at the beginning of the 20th century. This is followed by the action of the last chapters, where the author introduces a completely new figure of an angel, diametrically opposed to the divine, mystical form, metaphorically symbolizing the book of revelation - why? For Georges’s redemption of paying the restaurant bill with fake money?
I found this novel to be extremely poorly edited.
edit. For the author to then list her 7 or 8 editors at the end of the novel made me think how much of it she actually wrote. #literaryconspiracy
👋
SPOILERISH COMMENT: I listened to this book on audio so didn’t experience the formatting issue that you noted but I actually think it sounds quite genius. Do you think the lack of quotes was somehow a foreshadowing of how we had an unreliable narrator? Basically those quotes wouldn’t have been real and were only the story Ava was spinning.
Yes I do think it was intentional to portray exactly that! It was such a clever book and definitely exceeded my expectations but I think the entire format helped with the sort of diversion of expectations
What’s yer take on audio books is that considered reading
I would say broadly yes! Of course it is different but still consuming a story and not different from a person reading a book out loud! Since having kids I’ve gotten way more into audiobooks because they are more versatile
I loved Maid and really sympathized with Land. However, in Class, I feel like I got to know her better.. and I did not like what I learned. She is reckless and entitled. There was zero reason why she couldn’t get a better job and go to school part-time, prioritizing the financial-well being of her daughter. But instead, she prioritized partying, casual unprotected sex, and a writing degree. Don’t NOT get my started on her leaving her little daughter with any men as a babysitter. I am definitely judging, and I’m not sorry about it 😬 The one positive thing about the book is that she is indeed a great writer.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt a certain way about it, especially the stability for her daughter - that made me so nervous! The whole time I sort of felt like she was acting like she was a 20 year old with an unplanned pregnancy, then I remembered she was older than I am and I can’t imagine leaving my daughter to hook up with sketch guys. But it’s not my life and that’s what makes memoirs interesting at the end of the day! She’s a very gifted writer even if I don’t agree with her life decisions so I do hope she writes more cuz I’ll definitely read it.
If quentyn interacts with Dany..."0h"
This is one of the things I’ve been most curious to see unfold 😆
@@kaylachristenson9664 I really just see it as one of those stories where overstepping your ability is tragic. And more of a setup for Dany and Aegon and Arianne to have common ground.
That’s a really good point and honestly a big reason why I have enjoyed the Arianne plot in general. It feels very cautionary in that way and I could see that entire thing being a type of foreshadowing for the more prominent arc of Dany for sure
@@kaylachristenson9664 I'm sure being locked in that tower taught her a cautionary lesson. I'm just very curious about the Arianne marriage future. I'm thinking Aegon tries to set her up with Edric Storm.
I live up in the Adirondacks and unfortunately spring means gloomy, muddy weather. Acccordingly I started reading a compilation of spooky old Shirley Jackson short stories. We Have Always Lived in the Castle is an absolute favorite of mine!
Still nice to read something for the mood! I remember we often had similar springtimes in the upper Midwest!
I found interesting that a book made you teary-eyed. I went through this when I read The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. it speaks volumes to me because there's a lot of so many subjects I love: Formula 1, Ayrton Senna, the brazilian racing driver who died in 1994, racing in general and the protagonist who goes through so much struggle. it touches on subjects I don't necessarily believe in, and it does not reinvent the wheel, but I love when I book can really touch your heart and make you feel raw emotions. One that I def. wanna read later on - there's so much on my list right now LoL - is Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday... i'm not really that into self-help books, but its always good try different things 😄
It’s always good to try out genres you don’t normally read! I’ve had some of my most transformative reading that way. Yessss I finished a book called Shark Heart- not my typical read but very well written and made me emotional with the story! I have heard the Art of Racing is good so it is nice it had a powerful effect
1. Goblet of Fire 2. Order of the Phoenix 3. Prisoner of Azkaban 4. Sorcerer's Stone 5. Chamber of Secrets 6. Deathly Hallows 7. Half-Blood Prince
HBP always is low on my list too but yes the storytelling in Goblet is so rich!!
I guess the most interesting thing about this book is that you can't know exactly how some of the events took place, cause the narrator is baised and that in itself adds so much to the lore. It was def. a great read
That’s such a good point and it does add another layer for sure!
What!?! The iron islands story is RAD… Vic is so stupid, and Asha is so hot, and aeron is so demented, and Euron is so brutal!! Brienne was rad too!! Biter ate her face! And poor dick crab!! Come ooooon!!!! Arianne is insufferable tho.
Brienne was the hardest part about feast. I think feast was so hard to read because of how great storm of swords was
That’s so true. Storm was a masterpiece so anything following was sure to be a let down in comparison
This read will raise the hair on yer arm
The suspense had me so glued to it!
First full day of spring…happy springtime 😊 I eat seasonally but never read that way, gonna try. Well done
It’s a good way to eat and read if you’re so inclined!
I'm looking forward to reading the dune series. The first one has been sitting on my shelf for a while now. I just got the other 5 recently and I am excited. Probably cause I watched the movie last month, but let's see. Thanks for recommending these other ones btw
Ohhh let me know how Dune is! I’m curious but idk if I’m curious enough for the potential time commitment lol so I wanna hear your thoughts
It's so interesting stumbling on your channel because on my first read through of this series I had absolutely ranked my list the same way you did. However, on my 2nd read through of the series I actually appreciated "A Feast for Crows" so much more and personally appreciated the setup of the Iron Islands (especially Victorian and Euron Greyjoy's characters) and Dorne's importance in its play for the Game of Thrones. Personally my favorite storylines are Jamie & Brienne's relationship, Reek/Theon and Ramsey's relationship(yikes), and Jon & Dany's buildups with their respective stories(Ice and Fire). The Dance with Dragon's novel moved up to my number one specifically because of how exciting the buildup is for literally every single plot point. It is setting up The Winds of Winter to be quite possibly the best novel ever(assuming it gets finished). Anyway, happy reading!
Rhaena is my favorite Targaryen of this era. Such hardship again and again. Her marriage to her brother has them in a scandal right as their father dies and uncle usurps the throne. Aegon dies against Maegor. She’s forced to marry the man who killed her husband. Skipped over in the line of succession for her younger siblings even though she helped put an end to Maegor. Her third husband poisons her friends. Her daughter Aerea died a horrible death. I would be bitter towards my younger siblings getting the life and crown meant for me too. I think she would have been a good queen maybe not as charitable as Allysanne but ruthless when need be but not evil like Visenya. I wish we knew more about Jaehearys and Allysannes older brothers Aegon the Uncrowned and Viserys.
Ihhh yes she is an interesting character. Honestly I find myself so interested in all of the family tree, especially during this era! I think Rhana is fascinating as well but I’m also so curious to see the history that unfolds without all the dragons.
after 4 years to watch this when i finally finished Dance with Dragons. I had started and gave up on it like 3 times but finally with the help of Audible and Stardew Valley i finished it. I absolutely love it.
Yes i definitely like where the story is going - this book in particular built up so much anticipation! I'm so so eager to see where Danaerys' storyline goes
I like how are the fans just like the characters of asoiaf, they think winter won't come until it will
Dear Kayla. Great video. I'd also like to be able to get Fire and Blood Volume 2 better than Winds of Winter. I think Fire and Blood is Martin's best book in the whole ASOIAF series. It's has a flavor of real history. In regarding to other books, I have read The Kingiller Chronicle book 1 and I liked it a lot. I need to read book 2 and book 3 isn't out yet so there is a lot of space there also.
Yes it does have a flavor of real history! That is a good way to describe it. I have heard of that series a few times now so I need to check it out ☺️
Right now all we have are the fun fan discussions. Especially the tinfoil ones. Because they are silly. Varys IS a merman!
I'm almost 5 chapters in and I agree with your thoughts on her recklessness with men, especially after having a miscarriage. Great review!
Yes it made me so nervous reading that!! She is such a skilled writer though
saying that jaehaerys & alysanne simply "did not vibe with" vaegon is soo funny to me 😂
I kind of feel like that’s the short version tho 😭
@@kaylachristenson9664 yeahhh, pretty much lol
Omg i cant wait to catch up. Im 1/4 through Dance with Dragons
Happy reading! Fire and Blood is fantastic if you get to it 🤗
Spoiler alert: I was really expecting more from the ghost resolution and who the killer was, but I enjoyed overall. Just finish reading it and it’s my first Stephen king book.
I’m glad you pointed that out because I definitely remember thinking a bit of the same thing. However, the entire ambience of the story felt so tangible and real to me otherwise that I really enjoyed it as well. Exciting it’s your first by SK!
The Bolton storyline in Dance is literally the best part of the book.
Been thinking more about this - Have you read the Witcher series? The first one is The Last Wish. Another great (starting) show and world. I'd love to see videos on that series!
I haven’t read the Witcher series but have heard great things!! I’m just getting over being sick and in NEED of something new to start. I haven’t even heard of The Last Wish though so I need to look into that 😌
@@kaylachristenson9664 Hope you feel better. Yeah, none of the books are actually called "The Witcher", but if you google it you'll find them. :)
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. First book was good. I liked it a lot. Second book seemed like the writer was trying to date his editor or something. Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time) did the same thing with his Perrin/Faile storyline. No writer should ever do that unless the ENTIRE series is a harlequin romance (looking at you, Outlander!) so your readers would know not to pick up the books and get disappointed.
Omg thank you for letting me know! I definitely don’t typically like that kind of romance vibe as much but I may still check out that first 😌
75% and 1200 pages after 12 years. That means we've another 4 years to go for a 1600 page book. Looking at a 2027 release.
Omg I hope not but you’re probably right
I love love loved it
So good 😊
I’m recently re-reading the books. I forgot how much the show actually leaves out. But now I can’t stop seeing the show characters in my mind as I read!hoping by the time iodine re-reading, we may have a date for WOW !
I haven’t reread any of them so my rankings could change but my ranking worst to best would be as follows: Dance with Dragons, Feast for Crows, Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords
Yesss this is pretty in line with how I feel
