Dark Pixel Gaming I really enjoyed this game. I played both sides just to find all of the little secrets. And I kicked everything. By the way have you read some of the fan fiction? Especially the ones where Jack has an awareness after every New Game+.
As far as Radiata Stories go I think it's one of the greats. It possesses great story, music, gameplay, and well aged graphics. I loved the plot twists and characters, not to mention all the humor this game has to offer!
I kicked everything. I kicked everyone. My first playthrough would have ended 20 hours sooner if the simple act of kicking random stuff wasn't so _fun_ .
I remember when I was a kid, my sister had this. I would sit and watch her, and eventually took a shot at playing it myself. I loved every moment, so in the spirit of nostalgia, I must find a copy! Many hours of power walking shall be had!
Radiata's really fun. It's a nightmare for completionists, though. There's so much missable stuff, and the story branches based on your decisions, so it'll take a few playthroughs to see and do it all.
I remember there were so many ideas & mechanics in this game that I'd never encountered before--like the day/night cycle, and npcs going about their own "lives". I'm not sure if it was the first console game with these ideas & systems, but it was the first time I remember encountering them.
this game is amazing and still is one of my fav's, you're also just scratching the surface. the in game time, once you leave the knights, finding friends. Its jam packed and is a great game!
"Consistent tone" "6 hours into the story" Oh boi... This game really pulls a fast one on you when you realize it looks and acts goofy and aloof at first only to rend your heart later. RIP
I'm really happy you're having a look at this! This game for me brought a lot of realistic characters to a JRPG world. Each having their own schedule and "recruitment" quests. I really hope you enjoy it. If you are to think about thoughts it does feel like a certain path was really played down and that a lot of epic parts were taken away. Look forward to your review!
Oh man, I love this game. Played it a ton when I was kid and it was one of the motivations for me to fix my PS2 when I started to get that crappy disc read error issue. The jazzy music, the colorful environments, and the characters! Good GOD the characters in this game are hilarious. The split definitely is what makes this game, and while I know a ton of video games have multiple paths to take that you can mess with on various playthroughs, the split in this game really left an impact on me during my playthroughs, and the endings always made me think of what would happen later. Really wished this game's story was continued! Since it's your first time playing, I'd stick to the 'Human' route. It'll make more sense when you get there, and I'd take the other route after that. It feels like you'll experience the endings better that way, at least I always thought so!
My favourite tri-ace game and my second favourite ps2 game behind FFXII. I absolute love it and you'll be happy to know that the combat ramps up pretty darn quickly
Really nice looking game. It's seems to have the quirks and charms that are missing from a lot of recent games which tries to takes things too serious. Kinda resemble the Fable games, somewhat (and Brave Fencer Musashi). I know what game I'm playing next from the PS2 era this year. Might even play this as soon as I'm done with FF XIII, which should be sometime this week. Thanks for the exposure.
this was a very underrated game and i found myself playing it a lot back when i was younger and as one of the game that eased me in to action JRPG and made me love the genre. i forgot about the power walk animation until now and that made me laugh super hard, also my favorite parts of this game was the amount of characters that were recruitable characters there were and just made me want to get them all.
I remember the original, awesome and complete underrated game! Love how you didn’t give any spoilers! Great video to open the game up to people. Can’t wait to hear you opinion of the endin....... **writer was sacked*
i'd love to see your followup to this review. one of my favorite games of all time! pretty much every unique character that you encounter throughout the world is recruitable and they do actually manage to give them all their own personalities and stories for the most part. they all have their own little sidequests and things you have to figure out to recruit them too. plus, this game has some of the best easter eggs, particularily if your familiar with tri-ace's other works up to this point, but i think theres even a zelda reference in there at one point. as usual with tri-ace games, there's also a pretty good post game dungeon where you can go really over the top with power and abilities if you're so inclined.
Man, Mike has really filling his review list for the future with all this first look and Breath of the Wild and the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda. In any case, i didn't play this game, but well, all the images of this video + Mike opinion has put it in my eyes.
yeah, first look! I played about 10 hours of Radiata Stories a long time ago and was a little overwhelmed by the amount of stuff it felt like i could do. I remember worrying too much about trying to get all the characters and not missing anyone. In hindsight I should have just played the game and worried less about it. I will pick it up again at some point because I enjoyed what I saw
Damn this was one of the greats, one of those games I discovered with FF12. In the days where it was okay to stumble across a game because you know generally they were made with heart and quality in mind. Hope you do a full review!
Not many people play Radiata Stories, I really love ALL the characters in it, even though some are clearly not viable for endgame since besides Jack, they're pretty much stuck with their skills. I even had to painstakingly get the original Japanese Version, since the Dub for the Japanese has some stellar cast. lol
This game was my Kingdom Hearts. I played this as a kid, and the story seemed so vast and touching. Revisiting it as an adult, some moments were a lot less epic than I remembered, but in some ways it surprised me with the things that younger me had missed. I would definitely buy this again if they remastered it and put it on Steam
One of my favorite games of all time, if not my favorite. There was never a dull moment in this game, and it was so brimming with life and personality that I would get lost in it for hours at a time as a kid. I still have my PS2 copy, but god what I wouldn't give for a PS4 remaster.
my favorite game. every character has a house and a schedule and their own abilities and gear. and just wait til the final secret dungeon. ibhave the strategy guide and its fucjibg amazing. this game made me try every tri ace game
I loved this game so much back in the day. I really wish it had taken off and become a series. And trust me: the combat gets HARD out of nowhere after the split.
I loved that golden oldie. When you beat it and if you do the extra content, if you're a Star Ocean/Valkyrie fan you'll get a nice surprise. Watch out for bosses in a diaper and a night gown.
What am I missing? I am about six hours into this game and it is just a button masher. Does the fighting style improve or is it just O+O+O+O+o+O+O+O+Square?
I LOVED this game. It was an excellent play thru. The best part for me was the armor change and being able to get all the knights to join me and one of my armors looked like there's. So for me it was like I had my own brigade. Again, superb game. I have it for one of my collections.
there's a tonal shift in the story when you're forced to make a choice, without any spoilers, you have to pick a side, and the side you feel is the right side to be on will have a depressing ending.
I really do hope you make a follow-up video to this, because Radiata Stories is my 4th favorite game of all time. Only behind 3)Assassin's Creed 2, 2)Mass Effect, 1)FF9, and as someone who has played through the game at least 5 times I can tell you the combat has a few difficulty spikes if you don't over level. And the secret super bosses of the game can be difficult even at level 99 and the best equipment and top character party. I'm just trying to say there's layers. Hope you have fun.
I LOVE Radiata Strories. I'm so sad it's so underrated. Kind of makes me mad that this game doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. Honestly, I think this game is better than the Star Ocean games. (Not that I don't love those)
Pretty amazing game. Watching this review gave me a little nostalgia because as a kid i used to play it alot at my uncles house in like the late 2000s when i was like 7 or 8. Very fun and reccemend
and amazingly this is one of the super rare plot where you play as the main villain jack, who actually win and able to slay the main hero silver dragon aphelion who want to save humanity how many games or any story out there where the villains win? and you really root for this villain, because jack is quite charming and funny
I beat the game, got everything, done everything. I prefer the non human path myself. The dragon lair after you beat the game is damn cool especially when you go to the alternate dimension and fight demons and eventually Jack Russels father Cairn Russel.
Love the new opening and excited if Shining Force is going to get a look, SF2 is one of my all time favorite RPGS, because of course...it was my first RPG lol
This game was so good. Played it as a kid 10 years ago :) It's tales of and suikoden character recruitment in one game. Hell, if they plan on remastering .Hack GU which was also one my favorite series on the ps2. There maybe hope for suikoden, radiata stories, Valkyrie Profile and legend of the dragoon.
The combat catches up around the time when you make the plot altering decision, at least it did for me. That was around the point in the game when combat became more difficult and I needed to play smart. I ended up rebuying this years after originally playing it as I've never been able to finish it (first PS2 wouldnt read disc past a certain point but I could progress on a friends PS2 then come back to mine once I was past that point) and its currently in my cousin possession. Ima see if theres a rom for it as I'd like to avoid buying it for a 3rd time but this time I'd be lacking my memory card and any other PS2 games. I think about this game often and always wished it would get rereleased on newer consoles or remastered
still a great game to replay during this time and age. would be nice if it was remastered, or remake. sequels would be good too i'll take all i can get if this game is being remade
I’d say you should have finished the game before doing a review. The game is amazing, I want it on current gen so bad, and a sequel. At one point I was told there was to be a sequel called “Cairne’s Stories” but was canceled. Rereleases, remasters, and sequels I’d heard would be a lisencing nightmare because iirc square doesn’t own the rights. The game is so good, I need to get a hdmi ps2 adapter to play again.
I remember that game I got stuck at a certain point because I couldn't tell what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go and I couldn't look it up because I didn't have internet back then
Radiata Stories is hands down one of my absolute favorite games. This was my first game I got with my ps2 and I think I made the right choice when I picked it out, and it's really a shame that it seems to have flown under so many folks' radar. I'm glad you took a look at this lovely little gem of a game
You know, this is still sitting on my shelf unfinished -- I think the sheer amount of things to do, combined with a battle system that didn't keep me engaged after 20 hours or so just wore me out. Charming game for sure tho.
I'm really digging this game so far. Let me know what you guys think of it! -Mike
Dark Pixel Gaming saw that JACK BATAY flash across the screen 😃
Dark Pixel Gaming I really enjoyed this game. I played both sides just to find all of the little secrets. And I kicked everything.
By the way have you read some of the fan fiction? Especially the ones where Jack has an awareness after every New Game+.
Dark Pixel Gaming
(Power)Walking around, kicking EVERYTHING in sight...what a dick!!
One of my favorite games on PS2 that are under the radar, Radiata Stories, together with Odin Sphere and Dark Chronicles.
Dark Pixel Gaming this game was good. Great review. Can you check out two games called Jade Cocoon and Legend of Dragoon for future reviews.
This classic underrated gem deserves a REMASTERED version. I had a HILARIOUS time playing this game on the PS2
I think it's one of the best RPGs out there
I agreed. it needs a remaster or a remake
Yasss I loved it!!!
I would die for a remake .... :( We must riot so square enix does a remake
One of my all-time favorites.
As far as Radiata Stories go I think it's one of the greats. It possesses great story, music, gameplay, and well aged graphics. I loved the plot twists and characters, not to mention all the humor this game has to offer!
great game of it's time!
So many Tri-Ace games get thrown under the rug... Infinite Undiscovery, Eternal Sonata, Valkyrie Profile, Exist Archive..
So glad you took a look at this underrated gem
I kicked everything.
I kicked everyone.
My first playthrough would have ended 20 hours sooner if the simple act of kicking random stuff wasn't so _fun_ .
So true lol. The ooof sound was so satisfying.
You can kick the guard at the beginning outside of your room after you've finished meeting Leonard for infinite gold!
I remember there were so many ideas & mechanics in this game that I'd never encountered before--like the day/night cycle, and npcs going about their own "lives".
I'm not sure if it was the first console game with these ideas & systems, but it was the first time I remember encountering them.
Yessss you actually had to wait around for people.
Nah there were games before like shenmue
Man, you just made my day by reviewing this. This is my fav game ever. Fun, silly, and enjoyable game. Thanks man, and great review like always.
you could say that Mike got a KICK out of it!
one of the best game I've ever play.
Square has a lot of underrated gems I hope they bring back especially for switch.
I’d buy a switch for this. 100%
One of my favorite games on PS2 that are under the radar, Radiata Stories, together with Odin Sphere and Dark Chronicles/Dark Cloud 2.
this game is amazing and still is one of my fav's, you're also just scratching the surface. the in game time, once you leave the knights, finding friends. Its jam packed and is a great game!
This is one of my favorite games than none of my friends have heard of. x3 I'll have to play it again soon!
"Consistent tone" "6 hours into the story"
Oh boi...
I have extremely fond memories of this game. It is up there for me with games like Star Ocean Til The End Of Time.
I was so happy seeing this video! Underrated ps2 RPG.
Where can we request a remastered version of this for ps4
LOVE this game! So many people missed out on it! I still replay it every once in a while.
This is a must to bring to Ps2 on ps4 sony, make it happen already!
I wish this game would get a remake or HD remaster. This is my single favorite game ever.
I miss this game. The only reason why I got this game back then was because of Lenneth. But as you have said, the game is fun and charming.
My favourite tri-ace game and my second favourite ps2 game behind FFXII. I absolute love it and you'll be happy to know that the combat ramps up pretty darn quickly
It took me 14 years to realize his PJs were on backwards in the intro cutscene
I agree that the game really is fun. from combat, story, to the small elements. I have around 240 hours in that game. I'm glad you really enjoy it.
One of my top 10 of all games story is the best part.
My favorite rpg hands down two stories together they even made a manga about each side of the story with more detail
Love this game n wish the would make a remastered one of it for the ps4
this was a very underrated game and i found myself playing it a lot back when i was younger and as one of the game that eased me in to action JRPG and made me love the genre. i forgot about the power walk animation until now and that made me laugh super hard, also my favorite parts of this game was the amount of characters that were recruitable characters there were and just made me want to get them all.
Oh yeah, I remember this game :D. brought back so many memories. Might play it again since i didn't had the chance to play the other storyline :)
I remember the original, awesome and complete underrated game!
Love how you didn’t give any spoilers! Great video to open the game up to people. Can’t wait to hear you opinion of the endin.......
**writer was sacked*
This is my all time favorite JRPG :D
I think I replayed this game like 10 times because it was soooo good.
i'd love to see your followup to this review. one of my favorite games of all time! pretty much every unique character that you encounter throughout the world is recruitable and they do actually manage to give them all their own personalities and stories for the most part. they all have their own little sidequests and things you have to figure out to recruit them too. plus, this game has some of the best easter eggs, particularily if your familiar with tri-ace's other works up to this point, but i think theres even a zelda reference in there at one point. as usual with tri-ace games, there's also a pretty good post game dungeon where you can go really over the top with power and abilities if you're so inclined.
One of my all time favorite games. I hold onto my ps2 just to replay it.
OMG!!!!!! Someone's actually giving attention to Radiata's Stories and in this day and age no less, instant like and subscribe.
this game will always be one of my favorite games .
Man, Mike has really filling his review list for the future with all this first look and Breath of the Wild and the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda. In any case, i didn't play this game, but well, all the images of this video + Mike opinion has put it in my eyes.
This is a good-looking game from 2005.
yeah, first look!
I played about 10 hours of Radiata Stories a long time ago and was a little overwhelmed by the amount of stuff it felt like i could do. I remember worrying too much about trying to get all the characters and not missing anyone. In hindsight I should have just played the game and worried less about it. This footage was of the game running in pcsx2.
BRING THIS GAME BACK!!! Or at least port in on classics damn
Radiata stories is in my top ten favorite games of all time
Ah how I wish this game was released to the PS4 with a custom trophy list... I really love this game. One of my faves back when I was a kid with a PS2
I'm so happy to see you talk about it. This game remains a really fun game to me and I love it.
Nice introduction Mike!!!
People don't make games like this anymore...sadly
Years have passed and still miss this game.
Not many people play Radiata Stories, I really love ALL the characters in it, even though some are clearly not viable for endgame since besides Jack, they're pretty much stuck with their skills.

Fantastic review to one of my favorite games, great job!

I think of this game as "Silly Suikoden".
Noooooooo lol
Sometimes being paralyzed at the start of a battle services the story in ways unimaginable.
What am I missing? I am about six hours into this game and it is just a button masher. Does the fighting style improve or is it just O+O+O+O+o+O+O+O+Square?

that powerwalk haha

haha love that single frame mention!
I was looking for a good review to show and convince my friends about this forgotten gem. You covered everything I loved about this game
I used to (Alright!) really love (Alright!) this game (Alright!) but (Alright!) now I can't (Alright!) AARGGG!!!
Pretty amazing game. Watching this review gave me a little nostalgia because as a kid i used to play it alot at my uncles house in like the late 2000s when i was like 7 or 8. Very fun and reccemend
Wow i havent even seen this game or played it since like 2008 or 2009. Been a long time. I loved this game when i was a child.
Same character designer like Radiant Historia btw...
Would love a remaster...but they just don't make em like they used to hahah
What is the specific remix used at the end of the video? It's quite nice.
I miss this game so much.
and amazingly this is one of the super rare plot where you play as the main villain jack, who actually win and able to slay the main hero silver dragon aphelion who want to save humanity
how many games or any story out there where the villains win? and you really root for this villain, because jack is quite charming and funny
thats an awesome game, i hope ur next video about ur experience comes soon, look up for the bonus dungeon XD

How did you get such how resolution captures? Is this a ps2 classic?

I think about this game often and always wished it would get rereleased on newer consoles or remastered
Great game
Looks fun but it's yet another game we didn't get in Europe.
still a great game to replay during this time and age. would be nice if it was remastered, or remake. sequels would be good too i'll take all i can get if this game is being remade
I tried anything from square and enix when I saw them released and was happy when I liked this game so much.
I have a few games I'd like to recommend to you, Steambot Chronicles and Raw Danger (Zettai Zetsumei Toshi) for the PS2
I loved this game so much.
I always got a Seiken Densetsu vibe from this game. Really enjoyed what I played but never got to finish this game.
The JRPGS has come right here now.
I really love this game.
I remember that game I got stuck at a certain point because I couldn't tell what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go and I couldn't look it up because I didn't have internet back then
one of my fav of the ps2 era
Radiata Stories is hands down one of my absolute favorite games. I miss this game.
Only thing I hate is I stopped playing for a bit and now I can’t remember where to go or who to talk to
