An interesting conversation developed giving some insight into what it's like to come into a band that already existed and taking over the role of departed hugely influencial musicians.

Yes, they both stepped into some pretty big shoes to fill. The only real difference is, a young Metallica treated Jason Newsted like crap, whereas a middle-aged Alice In Chains treat William DuVal with respect.

yeah jason got his ass beat up by them boys, I enjoy listening to metallica and that shit I don't care about, but I know about it and it sucks, but all we can do is enjoy the music and forget the bullshit.
He endured said abuse for far longer than most of us would have.

A wicked guitarist also. I learned the first 2 albums with him front to back. New life in AIC🤘🏻

It seems that every time Jason is interviewed, he treats it like a self therapy session about his issues with leaving Metallica.
I have an interesting theory, I think I know the real reason Jason left, it's even sadder than we think

Nico Constantine left CWTF too to pursue other projects (Program the dead and Lady Gaga), I don't think William or Nico sold out, I just think the wanted to explore other avenues which there is nothing wrong with.
William left because their drummer left and CWTF wasn't very successful I believe (despite being awesome)
William seems like a genuinely cool dude, but i just can't get on board with the new AIC. sorry. Layne was Chains. period.
