- Watch this excerpt from “The Minister of Defense” where Brett Favre reflects on a play where Reggie White tackled him and hurt his left arm, sending him into a particularly difficult time in his life.
“The Minister of Defense” premieres December 13, 2023 at 9 PM ET on ESPN.
“The Minister of Defense” examines the complex and sometimes controversial life of Reggie White, one of the greatest and most faith-driven players in NFL history. Told in part through never-before-seen footage from a 2004 interview filmed two months before his death, the film chronicles both White’s incredible dominance as one of the best defensive players ever and his spiritual journey as an ordained evangelical minister who questioned his blind faith toward the end of his life. Along with interviews with teammates from both the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, the film features Reggie’s son Jeremy who embarks on a journey to understand his father’s life, which ended tragically short at the age of 43. “The Minister of Defense” is a portrait of a man who constantly strived to “do right” but found that sometimes there is no easy answer as to what “right” means.

Reggie’s victory lap at the Super Dome is something I can’t forget.
I was a kid when that game happened I still have vivid memories from that game and afterwards
Brett Favre is and always will be the last great ironman Quarterback of the NFL. There will never be another QB that goes through so many injuries and, yet, never miss a game despite broken bones. NFL these days would never let their star QB play through such injuries. Because of this, when it comes to Quarterbacks, Brett Favre's most consecutive starts record will never be broken. Many QBs have gotten close, but getting older means more potential injuries equaling less likely of ever breaking that record. Favre has set both other great and bad records that will not be beat.
He will always be considered one of the top 5, if not top 2 toughest players to have played the games. All it would take is one look at his consecutive starts record and the list of injuries he played through. Loved watching that man play football when I was a kid.
Thank you Lord for letting me know and and watch Reggie
So am I Brett Favre. So am I. He was such a beautiful human being. I miss our study's together with his family also. Those were the days.😢
Hard to believe it's been 20 years since the football world lost Reggie White. He was my favorite Packer player along with Brett Favre.
Got some bad news abt ur boy Brett Favre......
Favre is a criminal.
@@crittoneida958what he do?
@@headsdownharry u serious or trolling?
I’m serious what did he do?
I was born and raised in Tennessee and old enough lol to get to see Reggie play at UT and became a life long Eagles Fan when he left the Memphis Steamboats and went to Philly
Thank you Courtland and Ken for sharing Reggie's story. It gives the younger generation a peak of the greatness their parents got to be a part of!!!
Reggie White legitimately one of the top five players in NFL history people talk about LT being ferocious. I think people forgot. Reggie White was a beast mode on the field before BEAST MODE!!
He was Beast me he at Tennessee too I also saw Herschel Walker run down our necks lol and Bo Jackson
I remember a game against Dallas. He had an injured hand or wrist or something. Even with that, he dominated. And saying he dominated isn't accurately describing what he single handedly did to Dallas. If I remember correctly, he picked up the lineman with 1 arm n moved him out the way. And I think Dallas at the time had what was considered the best o line. Reggie made anyone in front of him look foolish
Greatest defensive player ever
@@GODISGREAT_12 It's between him and LT
@@flyguy7825 nah....L.T didn't steal from poor people. He just had a drug problem
Reggie White was a gift from above man i really wish i could have grown up in the 90s to see him play
Aww wish you could've too. I'm thankful that I got to watch him play as a kid. Him and Favre are the reason I love football.
@@ASMRshaylasame! The Lambeau Leap wouldn’t be a thing without Reggie
I was a kid during these wonderful years, and am so grateful for the awesome memories... I forgot how much these men admired and loved each other... made for some amazing football all around
Reggie white legit is probably the strongest person in nfl history!! Absolute monster on the field
I remember him in the superbowl against the new england patriots in 1997, he made Patriots guard Max Lane look like a little boy, he literally would just toss him to the ground, go right through him like thin air, push him aside with one arm, Max Lane was 6'5" and weighed 315 lbs,,, Reggie White definitely one of the strongest if not the strongest football player ever to play in the NFL
Larry Allen 💪
@peterlundsten3302 yes we know larry Allen got tossed by reggie too
@@peterlundsten3302
I agree. Reggie was one of the strongest players ever, Larry Allen was the strongest.
Reggie coming to Green Bay in 1992 free agency was such a monster deal for our fair city.

What a great 30 for 30 I loved watching him play when I was a kid. He was a great human being we need more people in the world like him. R.I.L Reggie
Some players are in the hearts of all football fans for as long we live... the minister of defense Reggie White is one of them. I love sports. I love football
That move altered the course of the franchise from one of the worst, to one of the most consistent for three decades.
What a great man of God.

What a time to witness the greatness of the 90s
1992 Packers season is still my FAVORITE Packers season ever, that win vs Eagles in Milwaukee was first win of a six game winning streak to get GB to 9-6
Reggie White is the greatest defensive end in NFL history
Probably. I believe Derrick Thomas is 2nd.

I have Reggie as the best defensive player of all time. LT, Butkus, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott, Troy Palamalu, and Mean Joe all right behind him.
Reggie was one of the Greatest Football players to ever play the game but he was even a greater Man
Reggie was amazing!!! One of the all time best!!! Brett too!!! (And I'm a huge NY Giants fan)! But what was more amazing was their friendship. They were brothers. They loved each other so much. Perhaps Reggie was Brett's guiding light when Brett kept playing quarterback. God bless. 🙏❤️🙏
An outstanding human being and a beast on the football field.
I’m so happy Reggie got a ring
Amen wish we won in 97 still lol that safety trio was one of best all time
Thanks man
Imagine what an NFL team would be willing to pay if they could find a Reggie White today. Great player great man.
Brett Favre is legendary, there's no doubt but does anyone agree with me that Reggie was the main reason that the Packers made it to the super bowl in 97 and 98? Reggie brought that packer team together unlike any other player could do in my opinion.
They always say defense wins championships people forget their super bowl team had the number 1 defense and number 1 offense something that's only happened a few times in NFL history yet it doesn't get talked about as one of the greatest teams ever.
Thank you, Mr Ron Wolf!
💯
@@brucekuehn4031I agree with you. Getting these two guys on the packers is probably the main reason Ron Wolf is in the Hall of Fame. Wolf had the right vision.
Reggie was a huge part but they go no where without Favre.
You won't see another player like him again
Reggie's greatest strength was his heart
Those 2 tough boys brought Glory back to Title Town
Much " Respect from Chicago" Brett " Your a better Human than others ! John 1: 16😢
I watched the 30 for 30. Really good but i was sad right at the beginning. I knew reggie had died but i forgot it was 2004 and he was only 43.
Goat defensive player.Reggie
My favorite duo ever
Remember going to trick or treating at his house. Reggie White candy bars. He was larger than life, gone way too soon. Same with Vince Lombardi.
💥💥 i never met Reggie white but i love Reggie white.
This is why you can’t compare qbs like elway favre and Marino stats to todays era. Todays era never had to deal with real fear in the pocket. Brady staying in the pocket an extra second to make the throw is cake compared to what these guys had to deal with
Reggie White was too good for this world.
I wish he was still alive he would be so good for the country he was such a huge man physically and spiritually

I love Lawrence Taylor but reggie white will always be the defensive g.o.a.t to me he was moving 300 ib plus guys around like toys and even until this day i haven't seen a player strong as reggie or Larry Allen it's a shame reggie died young i would've loved to see him coach defensive linemen for a team or be a coordinator
Lawrence went on record saying he doesn’t put himself number 1. He puts Reggie White number 1. A lot respect from the players on Reggie.
Beautiful
“Man this feels great”
I just watched Reggie Whites 30/30 😭
If Reggie saw the nonsense that Brett Favre did, he would be disappointed 😢
Reggie is with Jesus now. He blessed everyone while he was here more than being the best defensive pass rusher to ever play the game.
Reggie was the real deal, the spirit of the lord was upon him.
4:03 That moment when you in county & Nasty Nate wants that fruit cocktail after you were traded for a pack of cigarettes.
The greatest football player of all time on the field and off the field
Yea complete defensive lineman breaks my heart we didn't go back to back in 97 was watching NFLs greatest games on that loss 😢 even though glad elway won
Love Reggie more after his preaching at the state capitol
Brett Favre , Sterling, Reggie white and Charles Woodson are on my packers mount Rushmore
Reggie is a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. ESPN made him look like he had changed his mind and views in this film. God bless your soul Reggie. My brother in Christ ✝️🙏☝🏼
I didn’t know Farve had this kind of admiration for Reggie.
Reggie was the Best. 4evr
Greatest D lineman of all time and an incredible human being.
But after this seeing this program I’m looking sideways at ESPN. This was a bunch of people who disagreed with Reggie’s faith now trying to put words in Reggie’s mouth since he’s not here to correct them. They make the implication that he renounced his Christian stance on social issues when he never said that at all.
He changed his approach not his stance.
Noted good guy Brett Favre
Regardless of what they say about Brett favre, he is one of my top five favorite players ever.
Favre is literally the walking definition of separating his on the field accolades from his off the field issues.

Awesome like the NFL throwback video lol
Did Reggie sell a fake spin move on this play?? If that was on purpose - that's the best athletic move by a big man I've ever seen.
If it wasn't on purpose, and he was reacting that quickly to the flow of the play - it's even more athletic.
They don't make football players like them anymore.
Reggie would only be 63 years old if he were alive today and hes been gone 20 years. Sucks that God always seems to take the best of us
God takes all of us! The when and the where is not predetermined. If you can grab one more breath you take it!

Deion Sanders should really watch this especially with emphasis on religious overtone and how it could be a detriment to real life vs. a spiritual experience. Overall vey good bio-pic.
The code in regulation. Working perfectly confirming what the plan was in a powerful way thus is how it is implemented
Seems to me God has spoken.

Love Reggie White but it sounds like he became Jewish and started to reject Christ. Hope that wasn't the case but notice after he studied Hebrew he doesn't mention Jesus at all.
Check out the minister of defence nobody like him in football
Funniest statement made. He was a man of god who made many hypocritical remarks 😂🤣😂
Favre getting punch drunk
Good show. Unfortunately in todays football he’d be penalized for half of those hits on QB’s
Brett sits in a church acting like a hero when he stole from poor people. Gtfo.
They interviewed everyone in the documentary in the church due to Reggie being very religious.. Reggie was an actual minister for years..
@@qaxcgyujm they shouldn’t interviewed him outside the church then
Great player. Delusional, but great. There’s no such thing as god.
I respect everyone’s right to have their own beliefs. However, I wish a professional athlete would come out and endorse atheism. It’s not a god that makes people good and moral, it’s choice. Some of the best people I know are atheists. Conversely, some of the worst people are christians.
As a Christian, I know that is 100 percent true, that there are good atheists and bad Christians. It’s like that with every religion there are good people and bad people.
Brett farve is a sad dude that sues people for calling out things
