My dad always lived by those words and always taught me to do the same... dont EVER give up... the day we got told he had cancer it took on a whole different meaning.. and dammit.. he didnt give up.. he fought til he couldn't a second longer

In 2011 I was diagnosed with cancer, and given 7 weeks. Knowing those fighting words, " Never give up, don't ever give up", I didn't. Smile every day, think your most deepest thoughts, every day, and let life bring you to tears, happy or sad, every day, is what Coach "V" says " Is a full day. I know this dog can bite, but I will NEVER give up.

i have to tell you all this...this speech was very powerful and very instrumental in my journey thru life...i had an 18 year drug addiction...at the time this speech came out..i was wanting to make a change...i would listen to this speech every morning before i would begin my day....i can not tell you how many times i listened to it...but, the message is--don't give up...don't ever give up...and, i can proudly say at that 08-02-2018 was my 22nd year since GOD healed an addiction out of my life...thank you jimmy v....RIP!

The saddest part is that he said he wanted to come back and present the award the next year. You could see he was happy and looked forward to it but he didnt make it. He would be gone only a few short months later.

I remember my junior year in high school when I watched this for the very first time. Our English teacher wanted to teach us about life and how important is is to live every moment because it’s a gift and he showed us Jimmy V’s speech. When the video ended, the class was dead quiet because of how touching it was and I couldn’t believe how amazing the speech was. Thank you Jimmy V for your greatest phrase, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.”

I know that my comment is a year or more late but I just wanted to say that I sincerely hope that you are doing well in your recovery Sir! I know what you are dealing with and it's so difficult, so good luck to you on your journey to sobriety!
How's the recovery going? Hopefully you're still clean. I to had a problem with alcohol a few years ago. I used to crank 10+ beers every evening and I'm 5'4" and about 140 lbs, so 10+ beers was a ridiculous amount.
Im a Recovering Addict. This speech keeps me focused on what is important. Hope you're well in your recovery and life.

I always find myself coming back to this speech. It applies to so many things in life in general. Disease and illness will always be the unfortunate things that happen in our lives as people but Jim gave us a great example on how to not let the unfortunate things that can happen change your mind, heart and soul.

This speech means more to me now than ever. I’ve always known how amazing and powerful it was but it truly has new meaning for me. I got covid in August and watched this while I was sick. I ended up in sedated in the icu for over month with machines keeping me alive and it wasn’t looking good. I’m sitting in bed at a recovery center off a ventilator learning to walk, talk, and breathe on my own again. I haven’t been home in a couple months and it wears on me but this speech single handedly gets me through some days. I laugh and I cry and I think. I’m grateful to be alive and breathing. I hope everyone watching this stays in good health & spirits 🙏. R.I.P. Jimmy.

Laugh, think and cry every day. RIP your words mean more than you could have ever envisioned. I think of you very often. Watch you when coached and seeing you win the championship with State was just a lifetime of a great man summed up in a season. You are sorely missed.
Every year about this time I reflect on this speech. I use to work at a country club where he was a member and I got to meet him. He wanted to know about me and my dreams and what I was passionate about and I realized then how special he was. I will never forget it and I will never give up!
