I'm in a Nancy Brophy novel! My character is "handsome podcast listener" Unfortunately the cops don't bother questioning me. In all seriousness, Nancy Brophy gives me off Kathy Bates 'Misery' vibes. Why Staven?
I believe these are some of the most sinister stories when someone plans a murder of a loved one for that long of a time and never had a change of mind about it. Sleeping with the enemy. Poor Dan, doing his best, showing her love, being agreeable and for a whole year and then some, she had murder on her mind about him.
I agree. Poisonings are so creepy for this reason. They often do it over months or even years. And pretend to be nurturing, bringing their victim poisoned chicken soup in hospital if they seem to be recovering. So evil!!
I’ve been waiting for your take on this. I mean, if she wasn’t a murderer… her whole character and personality is hilarious, hideous, evil, but hilarious.. Watching her on the stand was truly fascinating… how she made it this far in life is beyond me, Dan was quite simply, the best thing that ever happened to her, and she was, the worst… that ever happened to him. Schmeeeda
Ikr? Looking at photos of them as a couple, especially when they first got together, it was hard to know what he saw in her. Frankly she was a very plain, overweight woman who tried to stand behind him in photos (though he hadn't a hope of blocking her bulk!) As the marriage progressed, Dan's physical decline was dramatic, he gained weight and aged badly. A relationship with a narcissistic abuser will do that to you - poor Johnny Depp's another example, he seemed to age 20 years in his 7 years with Amber Heard. But once these bloodsuckers have got their hooks into you, it's very hard to escape them. One can only imagine how miserable poor Dan must have been, sharing his life with such a pathologically self-centred, majorly deluded partner. One reason she decided to kill him, was that she had selfishly spent their retirement money, and even taken out credit cards in his name to continue spending on frivolous purchases for herself. If he'd found out, it's possible he'd have had an opportunity to reevaluate the marriage and leave her. She was not going to give him that chance. For me, one of the saddest aspects of the murder trial, was seeing Dan's elderly, frail mother take the stand. Her heart was broken by her son's murder. However old he was, he will always be her little boy. And he died a violent premature death, because he was duped into marrying a vile woman who didn't love him, but valued money far above him. Narcissistic killers like Nancy create many victims. 😢
I watched this lady testify, and she was really unconvincing. You get the feeling of self importance and narcissism a few minutes in. I'm not a professional, but it was painfully obvious she was telling a version of the story where she was the innocent wife with nothing but good intentions. "I'm so charming and glib, how could little old me kill somebody?" Nice try, old lady. Try to enjoy that institution food!
She might have thought she was charming, but she sure didn't come off that way! I think the jury must have had her number about 3 minutes into her testimony! A ghastly, deluded, failed writer, whose ability to laugh inappropriately revealed how little her husband's death bothered her. Poor Dan - utterly chilling!
Her testimony had my eyes rolling into the next courtroom over. She actually thinks she's just sooo talented and sooo much smarter than everyone and she's trying to expert-splain her writing procedures to the court like it was a TV interview. Such a truly awful and evil hag.
Narcissists always think they're smarter than everyone else because they know how to manipulate. This causes them to underestimate the intelligence of others, which is a pit fall. So really....they're DUMB.
@@kristenjustkristen9462 Yeah, Dreading has it, and I believe that Law and Crime might have more footage of the trial. She is really creepy looking on top of her condescending attitude. Oh man, I made the mistake of googling this case and a picture of her and Dan popped up. He looked like the kindest, most harmless grandpa/friendly neighbor type guy.. I feel so bad for the poor man, Nancy is truly the worst.
Imagine the life he was living and how so many women would have loved to have a husband like that. Dude was a teacher, guest chef, farmer/gardener, grew his own food he cooked, had chickens, hunted mushrooms, was a staple of the community, everybody loved you etc. I mean Jesus.. Can you live a more fulfilling life??? Guess it wasn't good enough for Nancy. What an evil human being.

I sure hope Dan's colleagues and former students come together to create a book full of his recipes, shared pictures of his gardens and egg stand, photos of him none of Nancy, mentioning Nancy only once in the book as his murderer. Publish it under Killer Recipes and *let Dan be the successful author* with the proceeds benefitting grants for Culinary Arts students.
7:54 Nancy thinks she's a great writer, but really she's "...just flicking the bean to the thought of a Navy Seal". LMAO!!! You nailed it Scott! 🤣That just about sums up this unspeakable, pretentious, narcissistic murderer and failed writer! Dan Brophy was obviously a generous, genuine and much-loved man who went the distance for other people - including, tragically, the evil woman he was duped into marrying. She never loved him - she isn't capable of it. And he really deserved to be loved. His heart-broken, elderly mother trembling on the witness stand, having shed many tears for her murdered son, was one of the saddest sights I've ever seen. Killers like Nancy create many victims. Clearly she didn't think Brophy was such a trophy, in her eyes her husband simply didn't measure up to the man she thought she deserved. So she decided he was a far bigger asset to her dead than alive. It was chilling to watch her performance in court, smiling and even laughing inappropriately, like she was giving evidence at someone else's murder trial. It quickly became obvious she didn't give a damn about her dead husband. But the real Nancy emerged under cross examination, when her eyes narrowed and her body language and demeanour became darker and more hostile. She went from smiley, cuddly, grey-haired grandma and dedicated author, to the devil in a neckerchief. It must be said, it quickly became clear she's as manipulative as hell, but simply doesn't possess the brains to be a bestselling author, or to get away with murder. One can only imagine what kind of horrible married life Dan had, tied to such a pathologically self-centred woman. The photos of them during the marriage tell the story - like Johnny Depp, whose trial played out at the same time, poor Dan's physical deterioration was dramatic. He aged massively in the years he was with narcissistic abuser Nancy. People really need to know this - narcissistic partners will age and sometimes even kill you! I happen to think Johnny Depp was lucky to escape that horror story with his life. Sadly Dan wasn't so lucky. It's very hard to know what those men saw in such awful women, but it's a given they were originally suckered in with love-bombing, flattery and sex, the same way narcissistic male abusers get their hooks into female victims. And once these bloodsuckers have their claws in, it's very hard for their emotionally compromised, kind-hearted victims to escape. I hope Nancy Brophy lives a long and miserable life in prison. I also hope at some point the realisation of how lucky she was Dan Brophy ever looked twice at her, hits her underpowered brain. Because while she was living in the fantasy world her husband funded and enabled, in which she was a talented writer who'd settled for a second best husband, in truth Dan was always, way too good for her.
The dumbest part of her trial is where she claims to have been working on a story about a ghost gun, and that's why she bought the parts for one. It's hard to even describe how dumb her testimony was on that point, because the testimony is so incoherent, any summary of it requires me to be incoherent as well.
Yep, like so many of these narcissistic abusers, the success of her defence depended on the jury being even dumber and more deluded than she is. So she was screwed before she even got on the stand! I'm still laughing at Scott's description of Nancy 'flicking the bean' to Navy Seals, while her long suffering, soon to be dead husband was going out to work to keep the lazy hag drinking Starbucks in her nightshirt all day (though that mental image made me a little suck in my mouth!)
Then said she stop because she need to finish her other book. Like then why did u buy the gun now then . Also u could went to a shoot ranger play with gun ask all gun ppl u know an store google . I read books about bombs an mass shooting I don’t think the author bombed or shot ppl for the story or made a bomb lol
I would like to request that my character in Nancy Brophy’s novel be a 25 year old swimsuit model with PhDs in rocket science from both Harvard and Yale. Please.

Yep - she thought she was so damn smart! She'd lay it out like a Basic Instinct movie plot, but, she was just as smart and smarter than anybody in a movie or book or courtroom. She's sickens me.
RIP Dan, you deserved better. what a loser she is, he was an attentive & caring partner. the self pity she has is so fucking annoying. Thank you Mr. Scott for another great video. 100k is so close!⭐️
You're hilarious. The hunky Navy SEAL is her gift to comedy. Anyone who hasn't - be sure to watch her testimony on UA-cam. You will want to jump out the window. I can't stand people like her... but it's entertaining, if you've taken your anxiety meds.
I get the joke, and it is funny, but anxiety medication is so god damn detrimental to people. Benzodiazepine addiction is psyically the most severe, and even with that fact aside it turns people into unproductive zombies. Medication is for the weak who are unwilling to put the effort forth to fix the issues in their lives.
She was so smart she thought it would bolster her claims she purchased the ghost kit for her research if they had another writer take the stand to testify she herself had once bought chastity belt for research. And even worse, the witness then testified that she'd cleaned it (the chastity belt) and then she and the defense attys laughed. UGH! ! I mean, it's cringeworthy stuff!
"Why do you assume you're the smartest in the room? Soon that attitude may be your doom!" said First Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, verbatim (it was common to present legal trials in rap battle form at the time)

Hey Scott, could you cover the case/interrogation of Nick Browning and his friends? The 15 yr old kid that annihilated his family. I found the interrogation(s) super interesting to watch. Thanks dude! (Also loving the change in thumbnail setup, pleasantly surprised)
I’ve told a few family and friends about this channel, and they all end up binge watching all the videos. I’m still surprised there’s not way more subs.
@@AParallelReality Agreed - I think Scott's analysis is great, but he would benefit from more sophisticated editing. People want to see clips and even some still images from the trials, of the people involved to make it visually interesting. Just talking about them to camera isn't enough for today's typical UA-cam true crime audience. I really hope he considers doing that, and if necessary hiring help. Because I agree, he really deserves a bigger audience. I think if he produced slicker videos that included courtroom footage he would up his views and subs considerably.
@@glamdolly30 Completely disagree. The whole charm of this channel is that it's just a guy, his thoughts, and a camera. Scott's a comedian, this is what he does best! Talk unfiltered! This show is basically a podcast anyways. There is no glitz or glamour, none needed. His charisma and storytelling ability is more than enough, the only reason most of us are even here is to just hear him talk! If you get it - you get it. If you want flashy editing or corny eerie music in videos about murder there are plenty of generic and crime channels on here that do just that. Scott is a much needed breath of fresh air
@@elliott6986 I'm glad Scott has loyal fans like you, he's a great guy. He's also a very talented one, who deserves way more than the 100k UA-cam subs he's amassed after working at this for so long. 'True Crime Loser' should be right up there with the best, highest ranking true crime channels on the platform. So why isn't it? The reason is obvious - he's cruising, pushing out pleasant but unpolished, under powered content. Scott's smart. He's also a stand up performer who understands the value of preparation. He more than anyone knows he could do way better, if he only set the bar higher. If he's OK remaining a 'niche product' and treating UA-cam as a casual hobby, good luck to him. But gifted people like him don't usually lack ambition. They aren't typically content playing it safe in the slow lane, watching lesser talents overtake them. That's his UA-cam experience right now, and I'd be willing to bet no one's more disappointed about it than him. First and foremost, he simply needs to work harder at his craft. That means devoting more time to scripting, better editing and generally more preparation/rehearsal. If he puts the time in, he'll massively improve both his content and his presentation. He's created a strong foundation to build on, and launch a really impressive channel. It's time to shift things up a gear! His 'Nancy Brophy Part 2' video proves my point. The storytelling is muddled, with too much rambling, repetition and even a few awkward 'rabbit in the headlights' moments, when he loses his thread completely. That's a real shame, it looks unprofessional and compromises the trademark quick wit and sharp analysis that could make 'TCL' a must-see. Scott's static, talking head format works well, but there's no question it would benefit from the addition of some visual images of the cases he's covering. Some judiciously selected and placed moving and still pictures would really enhance the narrative and bring it to life (it potentially adds to the laughs too, if for example we see wild haired, braless husband-killer Nancy Brophy, as he's describing her). It's quickly and easily done too, requiring the most basic editing skills - I'm not suggesting he invests in high tech CGI! Not sure why you think adding some pictures and court/police footage equates to being 'too slick? In fact it's the norm, it's rare for a true crime channel to include no images whatsoever of the cases it features (outside of the thumbnail pic). If Scott wants the same level of support as the most popular true crime channels, he needs to up his game. I'm not saying he should lose the spontaneous feel of his content. The point is, the best videos look spontaneous and effortless, precisely because a ton of work went into them behind the scenes! It's the proverbial stately swan, appearing to glide effortlessly across the lake - while it's feet are paddling away like crazy, unseen under the water. Right now Scott's just not paddling hard enough - and it shows! Incidentally my perspective is a professional one, as a British TV producer. I suspect you mistook my constructive criticism for an attack on 'TCL'. In fact it's the opposite - I wouldn't bother to watch, sub or comment if I didn't 'get it'!

Precisely
My character is "beautiful young groupie" of podcaster!
So evil!!
In her world once you graduate Seal training they take away your shirts forever 😂
😂
I’ve been waiting for your take on this. I mean, if she wasn’t a murderer… her whole character and personality is hilarious, hideous, evil, but hilarious.. Watching her on the stand was truly fascinating… how she made it this far in life is beyond me, Dan was quite simply, the best thing that ever happened to her, and she was, the worst… that ever happened to him. Schmeeeda
Ikr? Looking at photos of them as a couple, especially when they first got together, it was hard to know what he saw in her. Frankly she was a very plain, overweight woman who tried to stand behind him in photos (though he hadn't a hope of blocking her bulk!)
As the marriage progressed, Dan's physical decline was dramatic, he gained weight and aged badly.

Nancy dreaming of the ex navy seal is not a pleasant thought 😬
I watched this lady testify, and she was really unconvincing. You get the feeling of self importance and narcissism a few minutes in. I'm not a professional, but it was painfully obvious she was telling a version of the story where she was the innocent wife with nothing but good intentions.
"I'm so charming and glib, how could little old me kill somebody?"
Nice try, old lady. Try to enjoy that institution food!
she thought she was the next incarnation of Nora Roberts. Yeah right.

The thumbnail for this is hilarious it almost looks as though you are sitting behind her or with her in court.
thank you for covering this. Dan was my sister's teacher and it's insane she thought she could get away with it.
Man, this delusional woman took a truly wonderful man's life.
Devil in a neckerchief! Perfect.
Watching her on the stand, what that poor man endured for all those years
Watching her on the stand, what that poor man endured for all those years
The dumbest part of her trial is where she claims to have been working on a story about a ghost gun, and that's why she bought the parts for one. It's hard to even describe how dumb her testimony was on that point, because the testimony is so incoherent, any summary of it requires me to be incoherent as well.
My personal favorite is when she “blacked out” for the window of time where she was in the vicinity of the crime while it was occurring 🤣
@@c.2538 not the old temporary insanity chestnut!! 😂
Yep, like so many of these narcissistic abusers, the success of her defence depended on the jury being even dumber and more deluded than she is. So she was screwed before she even got on the stand!

Another one that thinks she is the smartest person in the room.

Been obsessed with Scott's content lately and our boy is almost at 100k!!! 😁😝So happy, such an underrated UA-camr. He deserves !!!
