I’m really loving seeing this BA come along! I never really paid much attention to them but you’ve changed my mind. We had a silver BF MkII XR6 as a rental many years ago and I really loved it as a kid. My neighbour has a mint condition early 2005 BF Futura wagon in Blue Pearl, which seems to be pretty rare as it’s actually a BA colour. It’s great how there’s so much stuff that is interchangeable with Fords. Like E series looms being the same between wagons and sedans etc, everything is pre run!
You should replace the catch can with an oil air seperator and have it return back to the air intake/manifold so it's fully legal...it's like a 10k fine for having a breather that vents to atmosphere and isn't subtle at all haha
@MotoringBox Remove the breather and get an adapter so the air comes through the filter inside the catch can up through the top through some tube back into the EGR port on the intake Or you could just an oil air seperator 😅 only found this out because I tried to do the same thing after being told it was illegal and ended up returning the catch can and buying a mishimoto seperator for my car
Exactly, venting blow-by to atmosphere is an instant defect. Sealed system should be fine. Only around pre late 60s cars can vent to atmosphere (and race cars)
Was thinking the same thing, vent to atmosphere catch cans are highly illegal. Look at brands such as pro vent or ryco. I use a ryco RCC 350 on my turbo diesel and it works a treat. These catch cans have filters inside them so they actually work.
I installed the lower snorkel two weeks ago. I’d read the posts about the difficulty of reinstalling the bolt sits under the snorkel. After cutting the hole and ensuring it fitted nice and snug I then put the snorkel in hot water. Once it was hot and pliable I placed it under the headlight. Then fitted the air box back including ‘that’ bolt. You can (just) fit an extension down between the air box and the snorkel. As the snorkel was still nice pliable I then simply inserted it into the air box. Worked a treat and all three bolts are in place and looks OME.

I just had a tune and bluepower intake done to my BA XR6T.. sounds great. I wanted to do the turbo side however I heard laws get a bit grey and could not be bothered with the hassle. I hear these BA's have a tendency to bend rods with backfire etc so i'd be careful doing too much to add extra air without a tune ? You should do a follow up video on how your catch can performs though ! Curious to see if I should invest in one.
Next mod. 3 port bypass valve. I have one waiting to install just need to arrange the same dia silicone to match. Have a K&N high performance filter, and a 8 shaker bonnet snorkel... will sound ub3r AF
Thanks mate. I have a no-name BOV on there at the moment - but it is alloy (not plastic) and the spring strength is adjustable at least. Seems to work very well!
Hey nice video as always. Just curious, how do you drain the caught oil in that catch can when it fills up? I don't see a drain plug or a screw off bottom...
A lot of the cans for sale didn't seem to have one. So you'd have to un-bolt the can from the car, loosen the two hose clamps and pull the thing out. Tipping it sideways should allow any oil to drain out of the two connectors. Perhaps a bit of a hassle, but I imagine it'll be something you'd only need to check every 6 months or so.
Just received the very stylish braided kit from Antz performance, has some nice fittings but seems it’s too big for the factory port in the cai 😢 I think I will be doing some ‘macgyvering’
I don't think the stock air box on the FG ever had an under headlight intake, I could be wrong though. But there are some nicely designed aftermarket intakes for the FG, like the "Streetfighter" or VCM air boxes. The catch can also installs slightly differently on the FG, I believe the line which plumbs back into the intake connects down near the battery.
not bad.man, be careful because its a slippery slope of wanting more and more hahaa. The catch can setup isnt quite plumbed correct for that particular style of can, but nothing bad is going to happen, dont be concerned. hmu if you want to know the correct way and all the ins and outs about catch cans 😁
@@MotoringBoxTVconsidering the catch can you bought is an atmosphere venting style can. ideally you should have your main rocker breather plumbed into it (like you currently have), and your PCV valve at the rear of the rocker cover should be deleted and then also ran into the catch can. from there the blowby simply vents to atmosphere through filter on top of the can. The nipple on the turbo intake would then be capped off.
@@MotoringBoxTV that would work fine in your current setup, assuming the internal baffle setup is correct, but it defeats the purpose somewhat, as under idle/light cruise/off boost, the pcv gets "sucked" open and the engine draws blowby and oil directly into the intake manifold. only under boost or whatever pressure differential the pcv valve spring can overcome, does the pcv shut and only then will the blowby vent into your catch can.
@@MotoringBoxTVpicked an FG one up at a wreckers today, for all the NA Barra owners it's worth noting that the upper air intake and spacers off a territory is a cheap and decent upgrade to the falcons

Yup it has always driven really well, surprisingly so.
Good video bud
That's cool 🔥🔥
I just had a tune and bluepower intake done to my BA XR6T.. sounds great. I wanted to do the turbo side however I heard laws get a bit grey and could not be bothered with the hassle. I hear these BA's have a tendency to bend rods with backfire etc so i'd be careful doing too much to add extra air without a tune ?
You should do a follow up video on how your catch can performs though ! Curious to see if I should invest in one.
I'm not expecting it to be collecting any significant amounts of oil, but at least what it does end up grabbing won't end up in the intake.
Next mod. 3 port bypass valve. I have one waiting to install just need to arrange the same dia silicone to match. Have a K&N high performance filter, and a 8 shaker bonnet snorkel... will sound ub3r AF
PS. Huge difference in the induction notes. Nice work!
Thanks mate. I have a no-name BOV on there at the moment - but it is alloy (not plastic) and the spring strength is adjustable at least. Seems to work very well!
I have a BA XR6 MAGNET TURBO UTE and my car has that setup from the factory. Was that an option
Sounds good
Good work. Run your car on 98 ron ULP too as will help with performance!
Always do!
@@MotoringBoxTV good work. Try changing out the fuel filter too!
That intake also come on my Na sy territory ghia
Hey nice video as always. Just curious, how do you drain the caught oil in that catch can when it fills up? I don't see a drain plug or a screw off bottom...
A lot of the cans for sale didn't seem to have one. So you'd have to un-bolt the can from the car, loosen the two hose clamps and pull the thing out. Tipping it sideways should allow any oil to drain out of the two connectors. Perhaps a bit of a hassle, but I imagine it'll be something you'd only need to check every 6 months or so.
that thumbnail... gonna have to bleach my eyes
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
@@MotoringBoxTV I miss the old thumbnail
And where can I get one of these snorkles
Just received the very stylish braided kit from Antz performance, has some nice fittings but seems it’s too big for the factory port in the cai 😢
I think I will be doing some ‘macgyvering’
Do you think that under headlight intake would fit an N/A FG model?
Probably not FG I'm guessing.
Good video
Can someone please do a vid on removing trim to get airblower out of a ba xr6 thxs
Wonder if this can be done to the FG XR6 Turbo.
Does this work with a FG falcon?
I don't believe FG's ever had their own snorkel.
not bad.man, be careful because its a slippery slope of wanting more and more hahaa.
The catch can setup isnt quite plumbed correct for that particular style of can, but nothing bad is going to happen, dont be concerned. hmu if you want to know the correct way and all the ins and outs about catch cans 😁
How would you plumb it?
@@MotoringBoxTVconsidering the catch can you bought is an atmosphere venting style can. ideally you should have your main rocker breather plumbed into it (like you currently have), and your PCV valve at the rear of the rocker cover should be deleted and then also ran into the catch can. from there the blowby simply vents to atmosphere through filter on top of the can. The nipple on the turbo intake would then be capped off.
Hmm ok. How about if I cap off the atmosphere vent?
@@MotoringBoxTV that would work fine in your current setup, assuming the internal baffle setup is correct, but it defeats the purpose somewhat, as under idle/light cruise/off boost, the pcv gets "sucked" open and the engine draws blowby and oil directly into the intake manifold. only under boost or whatever pressure differential the pcv valve spring can overcome, does the pcv shut and only then will the blowby vent into your catch can.
A link to the intake part would be nice, as the most common search results all show these stupid $300 aftermarket kits.
Not possible sorry - they're not available any more. Wreckers or marketplace will be the only spots.
@@MotoringBoxTVpicked an FG one up at a wreckers today, for all the NA Barra owners it's worth noting that the upper air intake and spacers off a territory is a cheap and decent upgrade to the falcons
Does this have stock bov still hooked up and everything?
I would like to know where I could purchase one of these headlight intakes
Any points would be useful I’ve tried to look on line for them thanks
Haven't seen any around for a while. Facebook marketplace or wreckers may be the best bet from now on.
Did he really say big flange, and force it into the hole?
Indeed
Cool
Your thumbnail scares me
Cool.
MotoringBox I’m not being mean am I??
Might try that on the AU!
Not sure if it'd fit to be honest, from memory the airboxes are quite different. Will have a look tomorrow.
@@MotoringBoxTV
Ues, you are correct. AU air box is very different from the BA.
But I might try to make something similar.
Had a look today - aside from the airbox being different there's no room under under the headlight. So it wouldn't work sadly!
Not sure if it’s the same in qld but in nsw that catch can is illegal with the little pod on top can’t have it vent to atmosphere
Haven't heard anything about it up here.
Venting to atmosphere is illegal up here.
Needs to be plumbed back.
When is the clutch getting done?
Soon as I can find a mechanic who wants to get involved with the channel. I'm willing to pay regular/full price and everything for the work. I wouldn't have thought it'd be this hard.
MotoringBox that sucks, I would have thought a local mechanic would jump at the chance!!
Check out Elite Automotive. They know their stuff.
Sorry to bother you again, installing a catch can, same set up as yours. However the plastic fitting that screws into the crossover is broken, trying to find a replacement or a barbed fitting that will suit, also could do with the rubber elbow on the other end.Any help/link would be great
I remember finding a brass replacement at Supercheap - can't remember the exact size, but take your broken plastic one down there and see if they'll help. The rubber elbow is harder to find from memory - you might have to see if Ford still stock them.
@@MotoringBoxTV Thanks again, you fucking rock! Keep up the great work
@@MotoringBoxTV Got one from Super Cheap, thanks again.
I watch your tutes before any others, great work.
Love your videos mate I have a ba xr6 turbo manual stock.
I can't find these snorkels anywhere 😫. Can you please help get one 🙏?
