Also the Alt+[right click] also works in weight paint mode so if a vertex is not deforming right and none of the closest bones seem to be the culprit, you can see what bones are affecting the vertex without having to go to edit mode, then you can select the bone using the context menu to edit the influence, it saves little time but can help you not hate weight paint as much
to add on to the weight painting tips, sampling vertex groups does the same thing, and is a cool tool to switch between groups, especially when adjusting weights during rigging! no more having to unhide the deformation bones!!
I saw you using those during your rigging course and i always wondered what were the hotkeys for them and here i am watching this video. Very helpful, thank you!
As always, indispensable information. Thanks, Pierrick.
This was a very dense information video! Thank you! I'll be watching it many times over!
The selection sets alone is such a game changer! I wish I saw this video 2 years ago when I started to learn animation! Than you a lot for this, hopefully this will make animation a lot less frustrating for me
happy to help
the selection set is Super Mega Helpful, Nice Vids
Thank you for these helpful tricks, especially the last one.
Great Tricks, even expereinced users will find tricks they didn't know!
Congratulations on making 100K subscribers. Here's to 10X more
Thank you ☺️
Always new video will be useful for blender user or Animator like me. The last video about make proxy for rigging is really helpful. Thanks for make this video
What a great addon! I love Blender more and more every day!
Bro this is amazing, thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
This was amazing ❤
Nice work 🙌🏻
I'll have to try Alt + Right Click for selecting bones! Thanks for the tip!
I use brackets, mirror select, shift bracket and selection sets)
Very helpful. Thanks
Thank you.
Awesome
Thank you
Thanks for all the great work Pierrick! Working my way through Alive! Right now and some great tips in here. A great trick I picked up recently (Cg dive I think) if you are animating with 2 armatures, while in pose mode, hover over a bone of the other armature and hit alt-Q, and it selects that bone
And puts the other armature in pose mode. Lovely when you’re animating multiple characters and props and stuff in your scene.
Thanks for sharing, this short cut actually works with any shareable mode. Like 2 meshes to enter edit/sculpt mode from one object to the other.
You also have mutliple armatures in pose mode at the same time.
Just select them all in object mode and press ctrl+tab
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN Ah thanks Pierrick! Another piece of the puzzle 🙂
I need to give selection sets a try!
select mirror is another good hotkey to have handy too.
Also I was wondering if you have any tutorial or course that covers bone orientation? Like which axis is best for a joint to bend on?
As someone who originally learned rigging in Maya for Unreal Engine - I was so confused when Blender wasn't able to change the primary bone axis to something other than +Y... I felt like I had to go back to square one.
I thought there would be some common standards that people follow, but It seems like every person/program/engine has their own preference, which is a nightmare when trying to reuse animations or collaborate or even learn about rigging in general.
I've been learning for years and I still constantly run into this problem😅
the master .. great video .. i have a question though .. is there a way to reset a certain value of an object .. like in maya .. for example .. u have select just the X axis from the object rotation n reset it .. u can even select it amd use the tween machine just for that specific axis .. i hope that u got what im tryin to say man .. keep up the good work brother
Shift + G is very good shortcut, selection types there are awesome, b-bones trick too, thank you. For selection set i thought it would be an addon somewhere, but blender have it all in the box again lol
You tutorials are in another level thanks
Would you please make a tutorial about how to fix fps ? When I play space key my fps drop how can I fix it ?
😮 woaw
pier how would u tackle a grappling hook for game but instead of a lineRenderer or idk how is called in unreal i want to do some kind of big hand made of fire. I was thinking maybe morphers/blend shapes but the distance would be always fixated something like instancing an arm that stretch all over and grab something with a shader/vfx particle but i dunno tbh better ask professionals. Our theme is fire everything we do has to be related to fire, so we are using a character that can light fire in her hand and in dark places sometimes she can reveal some paths with her fire and such but we need more that would be the context of the question.
Your big fan and student from Pakistan ❤
Love ure voice :D
Is there a way to have bones be bright dots like in SourceFilmMaker? Because Custom external bone shapes or standard bones shapes are still too much visual noise, my current setup is "Skin Selection Addon" as the mesh highlights and that's it
Hi everybody. I have a question about rigging in blender. Please tell me, how do I color a certain weight of a connected mesh, like when we select related objects in editing mode, using the letter "L" only to color the entire object in a certain weight?
4:26 I was trying to figure out why Alt+[Right Click] didn't show the select menu for me but apparently it is actually Alt+[Left Click] if you are using Blender's default preferences (Left click select) as tested on 3.6.1. If you need to need to change it, it is under 3D View -> 3D View (Global) -> Select key with the enumerate option checked.
I'm showing it at 05:00
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN Oops, I stopped right before that section when trying to follow along. 😅Thanks for showing it off in the video as well, great tips in here too!
And what do you think about ai is it gonna replace 3d modeling or animating?
and what?
I'm jk lol
i love your videos dude
