    Johnny Cash was an American legend. He recorded this cover at the end of his long career and life. He was known as the "Man in Black." He has a song where he explains why he always wore black. He was a champion of the downtrodden and the overlooked. His catalog of songs is impressive to say the least. He was also a part of the Highway Men which consisted of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristoferson. Each one a legend, but together unbeatable. Any video from their live performances is worth watching and listening to. I wish you continued success with this second channel.

    This song is actually a cover of the song ‘Hurt’ by Nine Inch Nails. The song was written by Trent Reznor and Johnny Cash asked if he could cover it. most people agree this version of the song is much more powerful than the original. He lends a level of gravitas and serious to the song that makes it hit so hard.

    • @kreiner1
      @kreiner1 4 місяці тому +27

      After hearing this version, the singer said it was no longer his song. This is one time the remake far outstripped the original.

    • @LordGrokken
      @LordGrokken 4 місяці тому +19

      The two versions are essentially bookends. Trent's is a young man looking at the road ahead, Johnny's is looking back down the road from near the end. Anxiety for the future, regret for the past. This song is part of a number of albums known as the American series produced by Rick Rubin. I recommend "God will cut you down" and the Soundgarden cover "Rusty Cage".

    The reaction was great, but you should never stop a video prematurely. Right after you stopped it, he closes the lid on the piano keys and caresses it. It is quite possibly the most powerful image in the video. After seeing this video his daughter said “It sounds like you’re saying goodbye” he responded “I am.” It was his last release.

      You are correct! I thought the same thing when he stopped it. That image of his crippled hands closing the piano lid and then running his hands across before he rests them on it, was indeed the most powerful part. It was the end.

    I am 69 years old and have been a Johnny Cash fan from early childhood. It took me about a year after his death to listen to this song. I was afraid of how I would react. I watch every music reaction to this song and tears run down my cheeks every time.
    People WILL complain that you pause too much. Ignore them. We all know these songs by heart and, personally, I get quite alot of satisfaction watching people hear them for the first time.
    Another amazing country singer you will like is Patsy Cline. Her song Crazy (written by Willie Nelson) is a great introduction to a short but illustrious career. She died in a plane crash at the height of her career.

    Johnny Cash was a very famous musician in the US. The song represents his rise to stardom, but at the end of the day (life) realizing that all of the honors didn’t really mean anything. The song was written and originally sung by Trent Resnor about his battle with drugs. I have not seen even one reaction to Johnny’s version that hasn’t had a serious impact on the reactors.
    Musicians to check out:
    Dan Vasc (power metal vocalist but performs all types of music) - Amazing Grace
    Disturbed (metal band) - Sound of Silence
    The Bass Gang (four professional basses) - Hooked on a Feeling with guest performer Tim Foust, bass from Home Free

    This was a cover, but Johnny Cash asked if he could record it because it spoke of his own pain, his struggles with addiction, his sorrow and guilt for the pain he caused. His addictions caused havoc in the early part of his life. With help from June Carter, whom he married, he beat it, only to fall again as a much older person. His wife June felt his pain with him, as you could see in the video. Shortly thereafter she died and he followed not long after. Anyone who knew anything about their relationship could have predicted it. He literally couldn't live without her.

    "The Man in Black" live performance, the first time he publicly played it, is a must; it shows who he was as a person. He has so many songs it's hard to pick just a few, but I'm partial to Sunday Mornin Coming Down, Flesh & Blood, Ghost Riders in the Sky. I hope you'll check him out when he, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson formed the super group, "The Highwaymen". There's a live concert of them on UA-cam/Vevo at Nassau Coliseum in the 1990's that's awesome. It's sad to know that only 10 years after that performance both Cash & Jennings would be gone.

    I saw a lot of information about Johnny and this song in other comments but in case it wasn’t mentioned, the older woman in the video is his wife, June Carter Cash. You don't have to excuse yourself for tears. That's why we're here for a TRUE reaction.... that being said... I highly recommend an Acapella group called Pentatonix and the "daft punk" mashup

    I have listened to Johnny Cash all my life. My parents were big fans. I didn't learn to really appreciate his work until I became an adult.(Elvis was always my "thing".) I was lucky enough to see him live in concert around 1990, along with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. Best concert I ever attended. Now, I am an old woman...looking back on my life...the smiles, the tears, the love and loss...and I live each day as if it is my last. This song is one I can relate to. Its deep and mournful words sink deep into my soul. As for your reactions....they are pure and real; don't change a thing. I love your involvement and your sense of wonder. Carry on, my dear man.❤

    ❤ andre, i thought that this was a perfect reaction. I follow your other channel and your wonderful positivity and your fun cheeky comments make me laugh ,i have to say i have watched a TON of reactions to music and some other things but i solely watched music reactions for almost two years and the reaction community had literally helped me navigate and find value and companionship in when i had slowly spiraled in this shell of a person . So i can say with confidence your reaction was perfect. Please take note because i have seen every complaint hurled at reactors( i moderate for a channel now i see it first hand ) you cannot make everybody happy, each group of fans of bands or genres will have different standards of what they want to see you get out of " their"song . Some will want you to not pause at all cuz " it ruins the vibe"and if you dont pause at all you may get a copyright claim, or people will say you didnt pick up on the lyrics or a moment in the music video ( even if you did but you didnt pause to point it out or comment ) i have found that when you feel moved in a song like you had in this reaction you felt it was important to take moment , to digest and listen again and truly HEAR this song not just listening to it. So i can say puase when you feel you need to have an emotional moment to recoup, go back to relisten , or let it play out if you are enjoying the vibes. Remeber most people who are fans of music reaction videos, we have heard these songs A LOT, like really a lot, so most of use are here to watch you react as you see fit, making conversation about it, asking questions when they come to you, if we wanted to listen to the song with no pauses we COULD and let me be clear, we SHOULD then just go to the artists channel and watch it thetr. We are here for you and reliving some of our first times with our favourite songs through you essentially, or were just here to experience new music together. Either way please dont let pushy, rude, or fervent fans of certain bands oe musicians try to discredit you, or bully your format , or talk any kind of crazy at you because it is extremely apparent you have the utmost respect for everyone and you being vulnerable enough to listen to new music and feel so authentically and with genuine thought, opinions and feelings, all the feels that you are hearing and watching for the first time is a gift that is something that truly keeps on giving, to your subscribers and those who watch your content. I apologize for this giant essay of a comment but i see crazy disrespect from so many people to channels who did nothing wrong and they havent come to terms with the fact that people are not ever going to see or hear exactly what they see or hear with their favourites, but what we can do it be respectful and thoughtful that someone took the time to patiently engage with new things and sounds that are probably not even what they have ever thought about listening. I suggest since you have now reacted to hurt by Johnny cash , when you have time watch other channels who have reacted to it, like A LOT of them, some are older people just enjoying music, some are cukturally more hip hop and rap - centric and they tend to ' breakdown bars (or lyrics and lyrically intricate rhymes/schemes/flows/cadences) or some are friends who do it together or couples or meet ups online yo reacts and they can be fun enjoying with more of a social and party like vibe, or just single persons navigating through new music cuz they cant find anything they want to listen to n their life anymore , its so vast. But you will see how they all react to the same song you did, but how different or the same they are and see their approach, analysis, vibe, patience, ( or lack of patience lol) .check out big channels small channels click on them all if you can but only to what you have reacted to or a song you are not going to make a reaction to becuase ** most, not all** people usually will click off if you have heard it already. There are always exceptions to that but im just speaking about the majority. You have created a wonderful positive , comfortable and fun atmospehere for your reaction videos on your main channel and i can see that translation over to this new channel immediately so i think you will do very well! when you can, search around for other channels to watch and see how their comment sections are. That all usually tell you a lot! Oh and one suggestion , when you pause ( if you pause) then you unpause after commenting, go back a few seconds in the song so as not to miss out on any lyrics or to get back into the musical vibe of the song :)thank you sharing yoursef and thoughtful insights with your viewers i look forward to future music reactions !❤ much love from Sacramento California United States

    "Needle tears a hole" reference to drug usage. Not his. This is a Nine Inch Nails song that he "covered" After hearing his version they said it is his. The way he sang the words is epic. He overwhelmed the original songwriter/singers.

    Johnny Cash Ring of Fire reminds me of my grandma and childhood. Johnny Cash was a huge American legend for our parents and grandparents generation. Although Elvis Presley was/is the biggest music star the US has ever seen. The movie Walk the Line is about Johnny Cash and it’s a great movie. You would love it.

His life was just as fascinating & you should watch his movies, videos, interviews...you will only grow to respect this mans talent & the FACT he did it HIS WAY! Theres a reason he was called a rebel!

    I am a little sad you missed the last few seconds where he closes the piano and caresses it in the end. I heard that this was one of his last performances and it was like symbolism of his goodbye to the piano, his old friend. Makes me want to cry every darn time. This cover is so ripe with meaning, from a man who supposedly had everything.
