As a local pier fisherman that's caught well over 1000+ king mackerel off the piers since the 1970's, two things that will help new pier fisherman catch more kings. When I first hook a king I'll loosen the drag a little and let it run until it can't take any more line then I'll tighten up the drag to about half the lines pound test and fight the fish. When allowed to run a king will usually run until it can't pull against the drag anymore and they're easy to manage when you get one to the pier. If he wants to run let him run don't try to lock the fish down he'll go around a piling. In the event he's headed down or under the pier opening the bail (like this fisherman did) or taking the line off the manual will usually cause the fish to swim away from the pier, if the drags tight he's going under the pier. Second, one gaff only please. Using two gaffs just complicates things and usually results in the mess those guys had. If you need two gaffs for a big fish, gaff the fish and then use the second gaff.
I love your pier fishing videos, my favorite way to fish. Keep on teaching, I always learn some from your videos. By the way you never told me the measurement of your pier fishing cart.
Awesome video man, love watching all your content and all the catches from you and your fellow fishermen on the pier. I've been starting to go to my local pier to fish and was wondering if you had a list/video of the gear/setups you use... Rod types (length/power/brands), Reel types (size/line weights). thanks brother and keep on doing what you do
Thanks a lot! I don’t have a specific video of a tackle break down. I should probably do one soon! This year I used an 8ft Star rod paired with a 6000 Daiwa Saltist spooled with 20lb power pro
Great video VitaminDee! I was surprised to see those people were getting a ticket and that they do not have dedicated parking for the bikes. Most people would be upset when they see bikes taking up car parking spots and part of me wonders if they parked there so they could save a spot for the cars.
I once hitch-hiked thru & stayed in town for a week before ending up in Key West fishing for 11 months. Started in Dallas & went to Key West just to fish & I wish I'd known about this but it may not have been there?(1982) Next time I'll know/peace
There used to be motorcycle parking in that lot closer to the lifeguard/public restrooms, it even had a sign "motorcycle parking" at one point. Next closest one is by Crabs.
@@fearmyglock_850 That’s a REALLY good question! TBH I haven’t figured it out yet. But a few ppl I’ve talked to use an over hand not and then twist really tight to lock it on. I’ve been using the perfect loop knot and have had good success with it. You just have to keep an eye on the strands. Once they start to fray, I would cut and re-tie. 👍
Just show up where they are being caught and put in the work. Just like any other fish, you have to be patient and wait your turn. You’ll get one sooner or later!
Not just unattended rods but a bunch of buckets underfoot near the rail. If no one out there is willing to call these people on their lack of pier etiquette maybe pier management needs to send someone out a few times a day to enforce the rules.
Yea, but you also gotta remember that for some people that meat might be all their family gets for a little while. Or at least thats what i tell myself when I run into people that ask for fish.
Always good to see you out killing it !!! 🧨🧨🧨

Excellent advice. Learned that fishing for Jack's back in the 80's off the old 3 mile bridge in P/cola .
Catching Reel Memories.
Solid advice! I love it.
Absolutely correct! Also open bail or take line off roller when a shark is on it and they usually outrun the shark. Then bring it back.
All facts! We definitely apply all these tips. There are a lot of amateur fisherman who clearly don’t know they tips!
how can u tell when a king mackerel is eating ur bait i get it confused with remoras
Well heck yeah. I sure miss being on the pier. Haven’t seen kings like that in a while. Great vid bro! 👍🏻🤙🏻
We’ve had a pretty good year! They haven’t shown up like this in a few years.

Almost every fishing video I watch now turns out to be you man . LOL Cool ! Notification bell rang Sir .
Awesome! That’s what I like to hear! Haha Thanks for watching!
Great! Now we got a fishing pier bully!!

Apparently the designated bike parking is just a bit of a walk away.

Now this is pier fishing
Haha! Heck yeah! Best day I’ve seen all year!!!
I wish we had a pier like that down here in south texas. Jetties will just have to do 🤷🏽♂️😁
Jetti fishing can be just as good!
whats the best 7 strand wire knot for an xrap/treble hook

@@VitaminDeeTV alright appreciate it man
nice king man
Thanks brother!
I have a question for you! When using your Xrap do you have it attached to a small wire leader?
If I’m expecting a King mackerel to hit it, yes!
Was you there around the 4th in 2020
I can’t remember where I was then. Haha. Probably not though…
Aloha. Stupid question. Do those guys just show up to gaff fish, or are they fishing as well? If it’s the former, do you tip them?
We are all fishing. If someone shows up with a gaff, we tend to help one another out! It’s a team effort on the pier and tipping is not expected.
Do you gone out to fort Pickens Pier at all?
Yes! I Go there every now and then! I may go there sometime soon!
Which pier do you prefer Pensacola or Navarre?
I much rather fish Pensacola. It’s home for me. Navarre is cool to though!
@@VitaminDeeTV Thanks. They both pretty close to me. I'm liking Bob Sikes for the lighter crowds.
That guy's gaff was trash, cool video why don't you guys use peir nets I use them in the keys and works like a charm
We use both. Gaffs and pier nets. We prefer gaffs due to the height of the pier and the wind can make using a net difficult.
Do you know what blank the yellow rod is?
They’ve told me before, I just forgot!
Pops.
There's just so many people in pensacola now. I am born and raised here and lawd have mercy the crouds make it impossible to fish lol
I feel the same! But we have to just get in where we fit in! Haha Can’t let the new comers take over!
@@VitaminDeeTV 😆 Factsss
I wanna catch a king so bad I never have before
