These roads were the original mountain roads in CO when people lived in those areas for mining until they cut through with highways. In the 70's I visited most of the abandoned towns and it was amazing to me how much people left behind. I one small mining town the houses were full of stuff plus clothes in the closets. It really gets cold up there in the winter so without work they left.

The scenes in this video showcase the poetry of overlanding - the rhythm of conquering obstacles and the melody of finding solace in nature. The seamless transition from traversing rocky terrains to setting up camp under expansive skies is a reminder that adventure and tranquility are the threads that weave our connection to the wild.

Thanks for sharing. It’s been several years since we’ve been able to get out to Colorado to enjoy the mountain trails... Silverton to Lake City is a fun route as are they all.... Fingers crossed, Maybe fall 23 we’ll get the chance again....

More great scenery and a beautiful day to do that loop. Hope you took the time to make a side trip to American Basin to take in the views and the wild flowers.

I can see you are using UTVs but a jeep should be able to do this easily or any 4wheeler for that matter, right?

Does not allow ATV on the street. I wish ALL of the USA would do this. So sick of the razers being allowed to run the streets with no inspection , insurance or anything that most cars or trucks are required to have

I've done Engineer Pass on my motorcycle. Going back to do Alpine Loop. Which way do you think it's easier coming down clockwise or counter clockwise? You've got to come down either way, but looking for the easier direction. TIA!

You can't park in Silverton as the town wont let ATV in town. Parking along the trail.

Lake City was NOT ATV friendly about 4 years ago. My wife, son and myself were arrested and anything 'Barney Five' could dream of was thrown at us, simply for riding our ATVs around the loop through town during a hail storm. While being written up there were many ATV's with Texas plates legally allowed to be on the street. Being a Colorado native that was salt in the wounds.
Attended phone court and most of everything was thrown out due to rouge a deputy. Later found out the city goes back and fourth on allowing ATV's about every 4 to 6 years making it impossible to know ahead of time.

Lake City was open to ATV’s in 2022 when we were there. If you have a question about them being open to ATV’s I would suggest contacting the Lake City Chamber of Commerce.

@@Bowhunter3283 I actually checked on the town's web site where it said allowed prior to visiting. Your probably right, a phone call might be more up to date as often as it changes.

Curious, you were arrested? Handcuffed? Mirandized? Did you have proper and legal registration and stickers or permit for the ATV? Did you have liability insurance? Did you know that Coloado does not recognize ATVs as street legal, but you said you drove through town? Yet pretty much everything was thrown out at court time, but you seem to still be chapped by it. It used to be that people riding/driving unlicensed vehicles would load up or park outside town limits. Now that respect is typically gone and operators feel they have the right to ride/drive where and as they please. I wonder how you all would enjoy ATVs et al cruising through your neighborhood all day long, all summer long? I bet you'd be on the phone to Barney Fife in a second, and yes it is Fife not Five. So next time start from the knowledge that your ATV is not street legal in Colorado and respect the towns people, it's their home. 😎

@@kurtloptien185 If you bothered to check the town website states ATV's and SXS are allowed in town to complete the Alpine loop which is FS approved for proper OHV registered vehicles. During a golf ball sized hail storm, that's exactly what we had to do to get back to the toy hauler. My dirt-bikes have been licensed and street legal with proper insurance likely for more years than you are old. During a 6 month period the town counsel ran a period to no longer allow ATV's on the streets but failed to advertise the change on their website. Shortly thereafter local business complained about revenue so they reopened up the town once again. I used to 'be that guy' to jump on UA-cam and insert opinions of matters I know nothing about.

@@HighCountryRambler I'm sorry. I agree with kurt. I get tired of ATV's and the individuals riding them. Sorry but write a check and load up everybody and trash the whatever because now you are an off road expert.

What's with this? The incredible fancy cameras do not convey the bone-jarring feel of these trails. I've done half of them in my 1979 Fiat high on whatever was in the market in Telluride that day. You Must Focus Like Your Life Depended OnIt anditwill all becool and then you go down toDurango for nachos and beers. The marmots at the top were the best.
