As a Dewsbury fan, he is my hero. I saw Dewsbury best Wigan at Central Park (the only time for me) and in the clubhouse afterwards, he came and chatted with us (he had retired some time before) for a good while. Did I shake his hand? He offered and I willingly accepted. I can see his smile now.
I used to travel regularly up from Rushden early on a Sunday morning for opening time in the Griffin. The great man was assisted behind the bar by his wife and daughters. What a great player. What a wonderful man.
Great tribute to Billy, I have one of his Jerseys from GB v Auz in 1962, I would love to have it signed by Billy happy to travel to meet him do anyone have a contact number for him please.
@@thedockhouserugbyshow1271 - Boston was exciting but primarily about power and bulk. Sullivan had a better rugby brain, was faster, more versatile, a terrific defensive tackler and imo the better all round player.

My claim to fame isn’t a playing RL one but rather that the late great Colin Dixon served me my very first legal pint of ale in Halifax 👏😂

My Dad a dinki di Aussie rated Billy one of the best wingers he ever saw
Autograph off bill Boston when I was 7 unill I was 18
That took a long time to write, oh you mean you collected his autograph from the age of 7 through till 18! Gotcha 🤣🤣
He is top 3 in the best Wigan wingers ever. Johnny Ring and Martin Offiah would be the others.
Top bloke 👍👍👍
And great player
Do you think Offiah was better at Widnes or Wigan ?
How many times have you seen anyone hand off three Aussies to score a test try? Not often.
That’s why he is in our legends series
£3000 is about half a million in today's money. I'm not surprised his mum signed the contract for him.
🤣🤣 true, well done Billy’s Mum
I could do with £3k now 😁😁😁
Visited his Griffin pub, Rugby League great......should have been a Welsh Union great! Not one of the WRU'S greatest moments, Cardiff RFC either!
@john Fox, Their Loss Rugby leagues gain 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks @john, shame he didn't play more in Wales
Nice little video. Mispronounced Pontypridd though which made me cringe, but loved this tribute otherwise.
Yes I realise the error of my ways 🤦🏻♂️ apologies to all.
cheers Ian
Great player but Mick Sullivan was still the better player imho.
Close
What qualities made Mick Sullivan better than Billy Boston ?

@@E171955thank you for your comments, definitely food for thought. Who else has other favourite wingers ?
