If you didn’t get the chance to see this beast cut loose , bad luck. As a Dragon fan , he was THE bogey man. So humble , but his peers know how great he was.
This fellow used to disappoint and demoralise me and many other Dragon supporters. It seemed everyone time St.George played Easts in the 70’s when the game was in the balance he would race down the wing beating players left right and centre to score for Easts. He was spot on about Jack Gibson bringing Easts in to the ‘New World’ with his techniques and tactics especially during the 1975 grand final, they were definitely on a different planet that day against Saints.Really interesting to hear about his sporting journey.
Harris was one of the first centres who ran through backs like a forward rather than going round them. He was big, he was bulky and he was fast. A great footballer.
The funniest quote I ever heard from this great player was to do with the often misguided believe that his size and bulk meant he must be a forward. It was, "Every time someone mentioned me playing in the forwards, I picked up an extra yard of pace!" 🤣
My favorite memory of mark was when he came back from the US he was playing against Wests. Anyway the chooks got this penalty near the sideline. He took the tap and threw the ball clear across the field to Bill Mullins on the opposite wing lol
What a pity he didn't get to play state of origin for Queens land. Originally played in Gympie. I think A grade. Taught me to kick at St Peters. Rugby Union. Held shot put record for TAS, maybe still does.
He was 1972 World Cup and 1977 World Series, in the run-on first 13 with both. Two grand-finals, 1972 and 1974. He was with Eastern Suburbs throughout the 1975 season but missed the grand-final. Wasn't really required for that, as it ignominiously turned out. I never saw him play in real life outside the telly, but I was at a Manly-Warringah versus Canterbury-Bankstown match in 1972 and the Brookvale intercom with score updates from other grounds was giving Cronulla-Sutherland leading the fancied Eastern-Suburbs, with the crowd going, " Yoh ! Whoah ! ", sort of thing, with the update on that, but Eastern Suburbs went on to win that, probably as Ballesty and Harris, and co. got to rockin' and rollin'.
i remember watching Mark play at the Sports Ground, one moment i cant forget is the Roosters were playing ST George. I dont know if im spelling his name right or not, but Inosi Toga had the ball about 25 meters from our try line. He was running at top speed and Mark Harris lined him up and shoulder charged him. They both hit the ground and the game stopped till they both came too. Mark eventually had to leave the ground, he hurt himself more then he hurt Toga. Loved the man .
There were two Toga brothers with St. George. One of the Toga's passed away not that long into their St. George careers. One can wonder if such an on-field collision as that may have subsequently contributed to his unfortunate demise.

Oh don't feel special. He made Wests look stupid enough times lol.Funny thing is I don't recall any non East fans that hated him...Just pure respect

RIP Mark. What a lovely man. A sporting legend and sadly lost.

A true gentle giant.

'innocuously'...'ostensibly'...'unbeknownst' ....bloke just trampled the defence with his words.
