Yeah. In the anime light went ballistic drunk with power, here he is a lot more calm and he acts like an idealist more than a man drunk on power. I like this interpretation surprisingly.
ikr i no kira supporter but even i can admit light i really rolling in with the mind games with the police making look like he's the true hero and they and near are the villains i do perfer the manga confession though but this one is a close second to me
This Light is more relatable compared to the Original Kira. He has none of the arrogance, cruelty, or the desire to become a god. He isn't doing this out of boredom. This Light genuinely wants to do good, and knows its a terrible thing to do what he does-but he can't stop it because of the sacrifices he made, and he will forever be a sinner due to it.
@novisla in this drama, light didn't do it out of boredom. At first he wanted to throw the note away, but was put in a situation where he had to use it. He then started eliminating criminals, cause he knew throwing it could have it fall into the wrong hands
Light's explanation was way better than the manga and the anime. And he's right. Nobody understood him,and he wanted them to understand what he feels. The Death Note was his cry for help. Only Soichiro and L knew this but everyone else didn't. After Light's speech,I wanted to hug him so bad and tell him it's alright, and that I believe him. You can tell how much he suffered and the pain in his voice. He cried for help and no one was there. That poor sweetheart. I know he's Kira and he kills people but I just can't blame him. Light is very sensitive. He's an emotional person. L wanted to stop him because they're friends. Soichiro wanted to stop him because he's his father. But Near and the others had no remorse. He grew hating criminals. He got his chance to get rid of them. I know murder is wrong but he just wanted to make a better world without criminals.
The live action drama version of Light Yagami is the most sympathetic and fleshed out version of the character yet. I could never empathize with the manga/anime version as I felt he was a privileged borderline sociopath who never really struggled in life.
I agree with you on that. This version, I think I would have dropped my gun after this speech. The manga/anime showed him to be an utter delusional psychopath who didn't even care about his own father dying. This version at least shows he still maintained some of his humanity eve if he sold his soul to create a better world.
I empathize with all versions of Light (well, except the netflix one) Actually, I can relate a lot more to (pre death note) Anime!Light than Drama!Light

But for some reason ,this confession is more convincing than the one in the anime...in anime ,Light was nothing but a psychopath with God complex but this adaptation has brought out the more human version of Light and now I'm actually beginning to think Light was right (unlike anime)
Faith and truth are two different things. Just because he made it more believable doesn't change the fact. He's a mass murderer, and be must be stopped under the banner of justice.
I actually preferred Light's speech here to the manga and anime. It gets right to the core of it. "Sorry to tell you, but that's the world we live in."-Light's ideals in a nutshell.
And they're observations that I agree with. Unfortunately, we don't have a death note in the real world. What we can hope for, is to make this system work more efficiently and more punitively against criminals to prevent and deter crime in the future.
Superhero18 Ah I see. Yes, I agree. I was rather surprised at the backlash Light got (it was expected for his personality, but not his ideals). Perhaps people have just been brainwashed.
Having a similar personality to Light's, I kind of expected it. It's the gift and the curse of having knowledge. When one has knowledge and when one wants to expand that knowledge further, people become jealous of those who are able to reach those realms and lurch out at us for doing so, complaining that we "talk down to them". But is it the fault of the words used, or the interpretation of those words? So I decided not to give a shit about the haters, and just to continue to preach out the truth, regardless of what people think of it.
The one thing Light never factors in his speech is innocent people. In the anime there was the girl that died by suicide, his father that got the eyes, L. People that weren't murderers died unnecessarily because Light wanted what he wanted/felt threatened. So Light is not as justified/good as he thought. In trying to become an awesome person and a god like figure he ends up becoming the very thing he hates.
This scene alone pretty much confirms my theory that Light Yagami is Kira. It's subtly hinted at throughout the show, but this scene alone confirms my suspicion.
I really applaud Kubota Masataka for portraying Yagami Light. He's really a good actor. Although there are some changes in terms of character in this version, the story still went well. I just don't like the part how Light died and Misa forgets him. I'm still hoping for a sequel of this. 🙏🙏🙏
In anime/manga he looks and acts like cult leader,he only wears emotions when he doesn't even relate to humanity. Drama Light is so calm with his beliefs he sees them as right because he's human,he has emotions,he's more sincere
The question is how many people did Light inadvertently save? If he killed criminals, did he save lives in the process since those very criminals would no longer be able to conduct violent crimes?

@memelord I see your point. In fact, "poor healthcare, home and teaching system" are responsible by the major part of injustice and "bad people". However, the statement "they aren't born that way" is not an absolute true: 1) the main responsible people for the poverty in the world are immoral people on power (politicians, for example). Most of them doesn't have psychological/psychiatric problems and have a better life than the most of people who doesn't have power and still they're evil; 2) Secondly, scientifically speaking when we are in really bad situations, our instincts speak louder than our reason/moral. So, "good people" can kill too if they are under "pressure" (wars, starvation, sickness, etc.). That way, we can conclude that even with the best "healthcare, home and teaching system",a society as close to perfection as possible would demand something capable to punish and control anyone by fear (death note represents it as Kira, an omnipotent god). As Hobbes would say, “man is wolf to man“. Have a good day ;)
@memelord 1) “actually too much money and power can (and most likely) make a person have a mental disorder (i think light is a good example of the power part), Plus even if the person seems to have a better life than most people, depression and other disorders can still hit them at anytime and the money taken from these politicians will be enough to actually treat everyone properly.” That exactly my point: since everyone can develop such disorders is a proof that even with an excellent "healthcare, home and teaching system" people can be bad. Also, a minority of these politician have mental illness. I mean, pooverty in the world is caused by their lack of moral, not because they are sick. Therefore, an excellent "healthcare, home and teaching system" won't be ENOUGH to create an world as closest to an ideal one as possible. Got it? even if everyone would have the same living conditions, some people would try to take vantage from other people because we work that way, we evoluted that way - As would say Charles Darwin "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change." In fact, that "change" can be "doing terrible things to anyone in order to survive or take vantage", as i will explain better in another commentary of yours. In deed, we can see in human history that trying to resolve the problems making everyone has the same living conditions simply did not work. A classical example is communism that failed every single time in every single country. Of course you can say " it only did not work because they were not the truly communism" or "they were socialism societies not communist ones", but since the ideia of communism was trying in different countries (a lot of them, by the way) by different people and in different times it ridiculous to guess that the problem is "that they did it wrong" - obviously communist itself does not work. In short, an ideal world won't be possible only by the ways you suggested. 2)“Plus if Kira where to dominate the whole world by fear and kill anyone who did anything bad it would just be a dead world where all humans (and animals if kira went that far would be dead) or people will just go mad and kill anyone who is even suspected to be kira and this will catch up to light.” That's not a fair comparison, how could you know that it would happen? First, at the beginning of the show, a lot people was glad by what Kira had been done (and so did a lot of people like them at the end of the show - telespectateurs from Sakura TV, for example). Anyany, in a real world most of people would rather a "dead world" ruled by Kira since there wouldn't be wars, for example. By the way, answer me honestly: which is more moral? a world that no one is obligated to do good and so a lot of innocent people will suffer with wars, starvation, murder, etc. or one which everyone is obligated to do so in order to prevent it - before you answer this, see the homicide rate and at least try to imagine the suffering of these people.(www.statista.com/statistics/195331/number-of-murders-in-the-us-by-state/) 3)“From the start of human history ruling by fear has never worked.” - that why i said “a society as close to perfection as possible would demand something capable to punish and control anyone by fear (death note represents it as Kira, an omnipotent god)”. In deed, it is impossible because that is no such power. Something divine would be necessary to watch everyone, everytime, for their entire life, and there is no scientific reason to believe that it will be happen, but it would be our better chance, our society “as close to perfection as possible”.
@memelord That ones you said about the human behavior are not true (i will let a classic book on psychology below, so you can learn some basic aspects about it): 1) First of all, people don't "sacrifice their own life to help others" in danger situations. An example: If you drown, you will try to save yourself no matter what, even if it means drown another person - that why it is allowed to lifeguards to hit you when you are drowing because you can try to drown them too in order to save your own life. 2) Secondly, "humans never do things without reason and every human can choose between instinct and the greater good" is not true for the same reason. A really sad example about Napoleon's Fatal March on Moscow: "In early December, the temperature fell to minus 36C. Men, reduced to "savage beasts", were prepared to kill each other over a dead man's coat or a lump of horse meat" (www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/3614183/Reduced-to-cannibalism.html). 3) Finally, when you said "Even sociopaths who are born without empathy" you just proved my point. Sociopaths WERE BORN that way and EVEN WITH THE BEST HEALTH CARE TREATMENT they still can do bad things to anyone. Seriously, wake up! if you truly believe that the only reason for good/evil acts is the way/the place we live you are a naive person and you apparently does not have enough scientifically knowledge. IMO, both the movie and the drama did Light's death better than the anime. And they also had a real confrontation between Kira and L - something I wished the anime had done.

Because when it boils/comes down to Adaptions especially this one (Drama Version) did it just right close to a tee on par with comparison to the "Anime".
Idk I definitely liked the anime way better. Everyone seems to be talking about how light seemed too much like a psychopath or whatever but that’s what makes it great for me. Average in intelligence? How the fuck could he survive so long, if he wasn't very intelligent? Don't tell me, that an average Light wouldn't be caught by L not long after the police found out, that Light is a student.

2)“Plus if Kira where to dominate the whole world by fear and kill anyone who did anything bad it would just be a dead world where all humans (and animals if kira went that far would be dead) or people will just go mad and kill anyone who is even suspected to be kira and this will catch up to light.”
That's not a fair comparison, how could you know that it would happen? First, at the beginning of the show, a lot people was glad by what Kira had been done (and so did a lot of people like them at the end of the show - telespectateurs from Sakura TV, for example). Anyany, in a real world most of people would rather a "dead world" ruled by Kira since there wouldn't be wars, for example. By the way, answer me honestly: which is more moral? a world that no one is obligated to do good and so a lot of innocent people will suffer with wars, starvation, murder, etc. or one which everyone is obligated to do so in order to prevent it - before you answer this, see the homicide rate and at least try to imagine the suffering of these people.(www.statista.com/statistics/195331/number-of-murders-in-the-us-by-state/)
3)“From the start of human history ruling by fear has never worked.” - that why i said “a society as close to perfection as possible would demand something capable to punish and control anyone by fear (death note represents it as Kira, an omnipotent god)”. In deed, it is impossible because that is no such power. Something divine would be necessary to watch everyone, everytime, for their entire life, and there is no scientific reason to believe that it will be happen, but it would be our better chance, our society “as close to perfection as possible”.
@memelord
That ones you said about the human behavior are not true (i will let a classic book on psychology below, so you can learn some basic aspects about it):
1) First of all, people don't "sacrifice their own life to help others" in danger situations.

正孝と賢人大好き王子様。
Actually kind of convincing
Way better than Death note by Netflix
Light & L is so cute
IMO, both the movie and the drama did Light's death better than the anime. And they also had a real confrontation between Kira and L - something I wished the anime had done.
Kira voice so deep..omg
Awwwwwwwwww Masataka as Kiran's voice is very good 👍❤️👍🏻
The best actor playing Yagami light role
I haven't watched this version, but this confession scene is very good too (thank god they didnt make him do dramatic speech version like in anime), he's right, but in this instance the rotten people hes talking about is he himself, I like it, well thought.
the dramatic speech was perfect and fitting for the stage the story was at.
He's not rotten. Trash like L and Near are.
Why do we love anime ?
Because there are things which if we do in real life it looks weird.. like getting furious and other things... What i like about this that light is calm here
I love that hair:)
Every single second of the death note drama is better than the whole movie of trash Netflix adapt
This guy(kira’s actor) is also Kaneki Ken actor in the live action
probably the best death note ive ever seen
i love the anime but this is better in my opinion because they made raye to mark dwellton
and best part about this is that it was mikami teru-san who killed Lawliet and not rem
I really wanted to see that infamous Light Yagami laugh.
ua-cam.com/video/Skdx_g-FIUU/v-deo.html here
just like this i am saying"world don't need kira world only need is trust to people" pluse i am saying this my self"world don't need kira world need me yes i am lelouch
I agree with everyone else who says the speech was better than the anime, even though the anime speech is still iconic. On a side note, am I the only one who notices that Light uses "Ore" instead of "Boku"?
俺がキラだ
Wait the hell. Hol up a min. How did i miss this 4 years later.!???
lmao this is a real life anime
I swear I was sitting normally
Kinda For an anime adaptation it was surprisingly good.
I love the wigs XD
same guy who played kaneki i love it
*A few seconds later*
Near : *NO*
悪がありとかじゃないけど、、
キラにつくかな。
正直まじで考えると夜神月の考えは間違ってそうで間違ってないんだよね。。。まぁこのお話が現実だったら俺は夜神月につくかなー
I like you light.....best portrayal after anime👍
うん、腐ってるのは警察
I like the way he laugh
The best actor, acts good,I like Yagami Light (Kira), Kubota Masataka
Good
Why people like this version? I mean, it's not the worst version ever, but anime/manga version is SO MUCH better.
Because when it boils/comes down to Adaptions especially this one (Drama Version) did it just right close to a tee on par with comparison to the "Anime".
Because they can identify with him.
Soda,Bokuwa KIRA YOSHIKAGE.
Bites Za Dusto
Jjajajaj no mames x3
Light: Es cierto, io soi kira -_-
*Más de 30 hombres le apuntan con sus armas al mismo tiempo*
Idk I definitely liked the anime way better. Everyone seems to be talking about how light seemed too much like a psychopath or whatever but that’s what makes it great for me. The beauty of death note is the consequences that sort of power would have on someone, it would drive you mad. This series made light way too much of a bitch who was also kinda average in intelligence for me :/
Well said
Average in intelligence? How the fuck could he survive so long, if he wasn't very intelligent? Don't tell me, that an average Light wouldn't be caught by L not long after the police found out, that Light is a student.
