20:08 I bet the creator got SO excited when they saw him do this
The fact they totally predicted Simple’s star duping was 110/10
That was insane
They pulled a 300 IQ play on the 200 IQ man
REALLY starting to wish YT let you flag your comments as video spoilers... :/
Prestige I would make a typical “don’t read comments if you haven’t watched the whole thing” but I feel you
@@CelloGamerMatt It's not your fault, and I'm not calling you out or anything. Your comment was at the top and I just happened to glance at it before rotating my phone and I was like "😬😬😬 I think those are spoilers..."
God EVERYTHING about this hack was incredible, the 11 star message, the surprisingly simple but genius shark tank bit, the one ups repurposed into deadly monsters, the destructible pillars that make the path to the star, the incredible way he hid the warp/treasure so no one would ever get it by accident, the shell boat, the star names that ask if you got the stars, the drowning mips/toad, the boo holding a level triggered by stars collected... and best of all the vast majority of this was just creatively repurposed stuff from the game.
hopefully this guy winds up getting into game development for real. He has a ton of creativity and fresh ideas.
Yeah. The one ups were two different enemies, a purple and white molgera and two gyorgs.
Gotta really call out how perfectly the treasure hunt went, like in most like AAA games I can't recall a treasure finding section that wasn't riddled with some amount of guesswork even after finding the clues. It's genius because once the clues were assembled the path was clear from the palm tree to the rocks it was a well indicated path, but what blows my mind is that it also didn't stick out before you had the clues. Literally this hack was nothing but brilliant execution of incredibly novel ideas. Like this isn't just in my top 5 romhacks, this is also going into a personal list of some of the best video game design.
I wish Morrowind gave directions to the player this well. Half the time its so easy to lose the trail
@@mmmmmmmtoast Morrowind really just went "yeah go west and find the house" and you find the house 2 hours later, south from where you got the quest.
I think if you have the first, third and fourth hint you are probably able to guess the second hint, as the third hint is talking about another rock and the direction is kind of intuitive. Brute forcing the third hint when you have the other three hints might be possible as well, but a lot harder.
@@mmmmmmmtoast sometimes morrowind does give you intentionally bad/wrong directions.
The entirety of outer wilds is this. Amazing game
I like that the rocks mentioned in the riddle are a slightly lighter gray than all the other rocks, so you know they're the right ones.
23:18 I think elarix might literally be living inside Simple's mind, because this was the HARDEST read I've seen in my life
Rent F R E E
You don't think that text box would only show up if the player has 11 stars?
Bruh, that's GENUINE joy he's showing us right there. made me super smile

This is absolutely, without a doubt, the zelda hack winner. I felt immersed and it took me on an adventure whilst being a spectator. 10 as fuck/10
@@anonymouspikminguy I mean, out of all of them from these videos, this is the best. I watched all the videos.
@@anonymouspikminguy There may be a better one, but out of the ones that have been played, this is the best. Not to say that the others are bad, this one is just so good.
@@anonymouspikminguy Ok, I'm just explicitly stating my opinion, it is up to my judgement and opinion to tell which one is better later, and the second comment was to clarify better than the first one. The fact that you are eager to try and instigate and win an argument is alarming. You have no obligation to tell me which is or isn't better, let me think for myself.
@@anonymouspikminguy which hack?
@@caseyhyder6803 it's probably his own tbh and he is just jealous that someone did 100 times better and got an infinite amount more compliments than he did. 😂
People have probably already said this but the thumbnail art has been bangin recently
I’m loving how they’re going with the Mario & Luigi RPG art style
@@Zacharoni_DX totaly!
@@Zacharoni_DX I can't help but smile whenever I see Luigi's striped socks. RIP alphadream.
Epic reminder that just about everything in this hack was done without custom code
All you need to make a banger hack these days is models and creativity!!!

This hack creator didn't just have Simps downloaded, he straight up knabbed the entire source code.
add bdsm toad to the allies list
23:18 He took the whole library. Read it all, put it back.
Damm that dude anticipating players duping coins was so smart damm
I liked the part where twitch chat would be spammed with “cock rock” anytime a rock was mentioned at all
makes me think of rockcock64 every time cock rock is mentioned
@@TheShredFaster hey gamer
@@scacknewman hello gamers
Honestly the coolest part about this hack was not exactly that there was a ton of custom stuff, like it didn’t seem like there was a ton of custom code or anything, but just how CREATIVE the dev was with using stuff already in sm64! The boat model for the shell, the masts being copies of the breakable walls from whomps, the tentacles as 1ups, the mips as the drowning toad, all such incredibly creative use of existing stuff! Mad props
I can't believe we finally get to use the boat from Jolly Roger Bay after years of just looking at it and platforming on it
I remember when you had a pixelated Chara pfp
@@salj.5459 but do you remember the 21st night of September?
@@b_but_not_2b i remember 14 21st nights of September
It’s actually awesome the way this hack repurposes stuff like chuckyas and 1ups. That kind of thing is really impressive to me in its own way from custom programmed stuff.
I hope this one wins the comp, its really solid and that 11th star message just the icing on the cake of this romhack.
On a boat 64
But wait, you start off in the water, You lied to me.
We have all been bamboozled
I don't know much about making ROMs but it seems like a lot of the things done in this hack are pretty common (changing models, text, custom levels, etc.) but the implementation is extremely clever and simply astounding.
It's a simple reminder that it's not what you do, but how you do it.
Yeah for sure, this hack is like an 11/10 and its entirely due to outstanding fundamentals
I come back to this video every once in a while and it always makes me feel better. I think the biggest part is how much simple genuinely seems to enjoy and love the hack.
I remember seeing the clip on twitch about the moneybags dupe. This entire hack was nutso, dude. (Nutso in a good way, of course)
After having watched the livestream and seeing the creator call him out for collecting too many stars, this is definitely one of, if not the best hack that we have seen in the competition so far.
d e f i a n t l y
The plot twists here were amazing. When the game called him out for duping moneybags, my jaw was on the floor for real. 10/10 romhack
Honestly a hack with a great concept, good execution such as finally solving that riddle in the end. Definitely deserves the top spot in my book.
That 11 star message was probably the most unexpected thing I've ever seen from one of these ROM hacks. The amount of foresight that you'd have to have to put that in is insane.
This was super impressive. The fact that all of this was done with vanilla mechanics speaks to the creativity and deep understanding of the SM64 engine from Elarix. Hopefully we see more cool hacks from them in the future!
Simple pushing the stone the wrong way at the end was edited out I see 😂
This deserves to win top spot in the competition
Easy 10,000/10
The blue flames on the Ghost Ship was such a cool little touch, since it looks like that in the real Wind Waker!
That hidden 11 star message was the highlight of the whole competition.
Congrats, Mr. Flips, you played yourself.
15:00 The fanart behind Simple gives justice to his aura.
11/10 after that dupe read holy shit LOL
Literally ;)
Gooooooood DAMN, that Moneybags duping prediction was top tier!
This hack is the ultimate proof that you don’t need to custom code much to make an amazing rom hack. This hack basically had no custom coding but it’s level design and creativity was so amazing that it didn’t need any of it
A great romhack hides the quirks of the sm64 engine behind story/lore. For example, the looping hiding the koopa shell (boat) was explained as the KotRL's power being weakened in the ghost sea. Good shit
Love returning to this video just to rewatch simple's reaction to the realization that the creator had invaded his mind.
The getting unintended 100 coin stars thing happens quite a bit. In fact some people deliberately look for them in hacks, and they've been found in hacks like Kaze's SM64Land
Amazing hack. Really inspiring that this was all done with creative use of vanilla Mario 64 code.
Why are the "bruh"s in the intro so quiet?
I keep thinking about mentioning it every time I start one of these videos. Good to see I'm not being picky about my bruh-based sound design.
Squatch Josh I thought I was alone in my yearn for bruh
There wasn’t a Wiggler fight in this episode.
Current drystreak: 5
I’m not even mad at the fact there wasn’t a Wiggler in this episode, this entire hack was such a joy to watch, especially with the call-out on the moneybag duplication.
Also 22:03 dad almost said bup out of pure fear
“I’m early, huh. Will update if there are any Wiggler fights” was the first name
110% message!?
Straight up 10
Holy shit I wish I was there when this was streamed. The most deserved 10 ever. Everything about this hack is great, and the 11 star message is an absolute cherry on top.
Oh my god absolutely beautiful hack. This was so incredibly done and fit the immersion of Zelda, even if in my opinion it wasn’t AS zelda themed in the way Zelda games have dungeons and progressive items and stuff. This hack states that it’s not even NECCESARY to have all that to be Zelda themed. The thing about this that fits is the essence of a vast world to explore and each level highlighted the uniqueness of it. So many brilliant mechanics and ideas here based around a fantastic Zelda game.
As a small bonus that call out was phenomenal LOL
Seeing a really good hack like this with no custom coding gives me hope for my ability to make a mario 64 hack. I'll be waiting for your next contest, Simple.
I actually skipped this video for a bit because of time, and only was able to get to it today, and boy do I regret it/not regret it. This was THE greatest hack I've seen Simple play, by far. It's an expertly crafted game, balancing "new" as in making expert use of blending existing elements to use them to fit the hack with classic good Mario levels. The only thing I could ever think to speak ill of is maybe the occasional Star placement on the level with the octopus, tentacles and golden rings/five secrets, but it's definitely a 10. I'm curious to see how other hacks fare. Props to the creator, and just the entire competition for creating some great hacks, and the sick thumbnail art. Shoutouts to Cock Rock 4.
This one's my favourite I think. The creator didn't just try and make a hack, he made a game
The part where it called you out on the moneybag duping was incredible
the creative use of existing enemies and objects in lieu of custom coding was both creative and really well done. that scene of dropping in the diving bell while the 'sea monsters' just chomped at it was honestly sick
I always love how the video shakes once Simple reaches a certain volume.
Those fish bones were a prelude to the last level the whole time and I'm over here in awe.
My personal winner of this contest. Mainly because it still plays like a super mario 64 hack, theres basivally no custom coding.
While the other banger hacks with custom coding are mindblowing and incredible, this one has that special SM64 charme to it
This is my favourite hack I’ve ever seen you play, genuine happiness flowing through me
9:48 I fucking lost it. Whoever's idea it was to put that sound effect there is a damn genius
God damn, that 11 star text had me laughing my ass off! What an awesome hack. Great video, thanks again dad!
hands-down the best one of this competition so far. honestly gonna be shocked if somebody tops this. wow.
this might be one of the best rom hacks i've ever seen
yooo the 11 star message was real hype
What a hack, dude, that 11 star message, the genius level repurposing of existing mechanics, deeply incredible stuff!
"He turns around pretty quickly once Mario is out of the picture... Just like dad used to!"
😵😵😵
I was here for this! Such a great stream, and this hack was absolutely a 10/10 from me. Oh, and Simple even read one of my messages about the bob-omb committing "MUTANY" (Didn't make it into the highlights, but that's alright!)
"We found some thing in the cave to my right"
Simp immediately heads towards Bup's left.
I_don't_know_what_I_expected.jpg
One really neat thing I noticed is that the fossil simp found earlier into the hack underwater was the same kind as the ghost bone creatures, and their message says “our bones don’t sink” so it’s interesting that the one fossil did. Normally id think I’m reading too far into it but with everything in this hack I’m thinking there’s no way it was unintentional.
This is the best hack I've seen, hands down. The masts being breakable walls, the tentacles being 1-ups and everything like that are so creative. And of course the crazy 11th star read. I hope to eventually make a hack that compares to the creativity of this one.
This is the most incredibly made hack I’ve seen in ages
This is the type of video that in 4 years I'll want to rewatch, just because its so fucking great.

7:38 "Grief *these* balls!" is now in my all-time favorite Simpleflips moments
This ROM Hack is inspiring in its quality and on how much fun simple flips is having Let's Playing it.
Makes me feel motivated to work on my unrelated projects.
23:15 this is the greatest hack I've seen in my life
Windwaker is probably my favorite Zelda game and I love SM64 and now we have both, one man shouldn’t have all this power
I fell in love with this one
Shoutout to elarix for making this great hack, and also making great levels involving the green shell to get around without making it just the most annoying shit to deal with
This hack was siiiiick, definitely top 3 for me at least
When you removed your glasses I realized you have to team up with this guy to make a game together.
This game's an 11/10; one for every star
WHY IS YOUR CHANNEL SO UNDERRATED
I really hope this one wins.
No assembly at all, just reskinning, texturing and great level design.
I love that quick little kirby song insertion in the outro.
nice meme!
The 11 star message was incredible, I'm so glad simp went for that
The 11 star message was the hardest read I've ever seen in my life, and I've read books on assembly language.
On A Boat 64 is a PERFECT/10, them adding special text for duping money bags was a good call.
Gotta agree this is one of the coolest rom hacks ive ever seen
I’ve seen this intro so many times it follows me on my nightmares
This hack is straight up an 11/10. Awesome as HELL

I've been watching these hacks for a while now and I gotta say, this is probably the best hack I've seen probably ever. That says a lot to me because I didn't like Wind Waker.
When it called you out for the money bags I lost it for a solid two minutes, it was a 10 for me before that. I'm glad I wasn't there for the original stream because I'd have been disappointed I couldn't rate higher than ten.
Man, ROM hacks have come so far. Never in my life could I have predicted a game this creative and thoughtful could even be attempted from a hack, yet here we are. Easy 10/10, I hope this wins the competition.
