You know what the ultimate troll move would be? To put this rom in the place of the actual Super Mario 64 rom in emulator sites. I bet it would spooky the hell out of someone that is not aware of this game existance.
My personal theory about this game, is that apart from the AI stuff the Mario subplot is using the SMB1 Japanese manual cannon, where Bowser and his Koopas practice the dark arts and thats why they got kicked out of the Kingdom and seek to conquer it, and the "Inside the Walls" phrase/story motif refers to Toad souls being trapped inside the castle's brick walls and suffering endlessly, and probably Peach is just freaking dead Lmao. So yeah it oddly fits.
I think the line "this castle is exclusive to the show" means like some E3 thing where it's like a showcase of what the game can do and this isnt the final design.
So that timer level you showed, it gave you a minute to climb a shadowy whomps fortress. It only gave me 40 seconds. Also I remember encountering a slightly scary Luigi painting missing his eyes that I don’t remember how to get to now.

I haven't played the "unabandoned" release so I don't know how that handles things, but one thing caught my attention. Most of the hack's content is supposed to be locked behind one red star (which would be the Bowser one at the lobby, if you play normally), but seems like warping with 10 stars bypasses this necessity and lets you explore the rest of the castle... But then what you mention at 3:55 caught my attention. (SPOILER ALERT) You see, that star isn't supposed to be.. let's just say readily catchable, and there'd be a warp somewhere between. But looks like not having a red star prevented that from happening. I do not know if that would happen on the recently released 1.0 version but it's interesting that your experience was this much... I think your theory about the on-screen text actually being from the AI itself is very interesting, and it's different from what I had been thinking! When I was playing this hack, I always interpreted the text as being messages from the Toads in the game, trying to communicate in a more subtle, under-the-table manner, as opposed to them speaking to you more directly as they often do. In the hub where you get the "FIND THE CORE" message, there is a Toad NPC who says that it's peaceful here. It was from this that I took the FIND THE CORE message to actually be from the same Toad, who was actually trying to help you. Almost like he was trying to tell you something while the AI "isn't looking". I don't think my interpretation was necessarily more or less correct than yours, though.
that's actually a really interesting theory considering some toads give you stars ONLY when it's night time on your pc's clock (they say something along the lines of "come back at night plumber"). It does seem like the toads are at least semi aware that something's wrong and are actively trying to help you, minus the ones that jumpscare you and crash your game

I still think people are exeggerating about SM64. There was nothing scary about it. Maybe a few, very few unsettling things but scary is not the word i'd ever use to describe them
Maybe it's to do with a lot of horror stuff namely FNAF but also other things using retro styles to depict horror that makes people think it was scary or unsettling
9:13 it has 5. the one with the 3124 is copied twice and hteres a beta lobby copy in the one with the 3313 doors, going to the leftmost door sends you to that copy.
15:54 is just a reference to super mario classified where luigi drowns. The way to get to that area is going through a brick door. That luigi went in n drowned. Which made it got bricked up.
I think my favorite bit of this is the community making maps and exploring This feels like Yume Nikki all over again, a game thats mostly fun because you are exploring this dream logic driven world and see what you find, its just that Mario 64's nature allows for more interactivity than Yume Nikki's RPG engine It's amazing and i love seeing all the finds
You know what's weird is that I got an alternate ending without the need for red stars or the credits, and it spawned me in a room with Peach and cake. I guess every copy IS personalized!
Mate you were playing the Unabandoned build and used the ceiling method to access the plexus and found CHW where you death-warped to the post-credits area where the room you described can be found Nice speedrun btw
Honestly, by the way you describe feeling and orienting youself in this game it HEAVILY reminds me of Yume Nikki. There you visit weird worlds, and always need to find a way back to some places you wanna visit again. And feeling too - mystirious , unexplained world
Well I was gonna say how your take on the series more or less IS the plot of Greenio's series but I see someone beat me to that. The only other thing I feel is worth pointing out is that Luigi drowned in that series too, and I still don't really get what that part of the series meant. But the drowned Luigi is another Greenio connection most likely.
am not sure if the wiki is right but it says the story is that mario and luigi are trying to escape the AI and the ending you saw is actually a piece of the unfinished ending
If I'm not mistaken, The Shadow's segment isn't actually an homage to Slenderman. It's more likely an homage to Super Mario Dolor, a stealth-horror Mario fangame that features a similar antagonist with the same name, The Shadow.
from what i can tell it's really similar to the greenio mario series. that was features a lot of the "every copy of mario 64 is personalized" and specifically features luigi drowning. it's based off a game dev who like fucked up or something and the game and it's characters are in pain because you keep playing. it's kinda vague (as good creepypastas should be) but one of the main similarities is that it has lots of weird beta like content and areas that don't exist within the game itself, like a whole extra floor to the castle. the BIGGEST thing is the core, which in the series gets destroyed but doesnt seem to fully free whatever is in pain within the game.
Fun fact: This game has multiple copies of the main castle, at least 3. You can tell by the number on the star of the very left door. One will play a weird tune and bring you to a different version of the same hub when you go through. There's tons of garbage here to throw you off, even with the star list in the start menu not showing shit. You can beat it in 70 stars, or more depending on what path you take. People believe that there's 150 stars in total, but nobody knows for sure. To quote simpleflips, "How many stars are there? It depends on your zodiac sign and the month of the year. Right now it's looking like a March Libra route."
Mario after eating one too many mushrooms. On a serious note this is probable one of the best rom hacks I've ever played, only one that come close to being my favorite is SM64: Decades Later (you should check it out if you haven't)
small corrections plus add ons. 1: this is heavily based off greenios series. 2: you mentioned how you basically called people wrong for saying it hurts is for luigi. this is another thing from greenio's series. luigi (created by stanley) drowned. 3: the textureless mario is called stanley. who is ONCE AGAIN from greenio. 4: the reason destroying the core gets reset when opening up the game again, it's not canon. if i remember correctly. the core is made up in the main protagonists head. to make them feel better.
This makes me want to get a PC and re live my youth I was 9 when Mario 64 came out it was a magical time… Mario 64 turok 64 the first men in black film lol all core memories in my life

Man this is deep
I’m gonna get backlash from saying this but
I wonder if anybody would make a “if this was in Mario madness v2” song
isnt b3313 already really closely related to 64 classified though? i doubt anyone will be able to do anything unique with the concept since the concept itself is already used
I still think people are exeggerating about SM64.
12:49 WHY'D THAT ACTUALLY MAKE ME JUMP
I think my favorite bit of this is the community making maps and exploring
This feels like Yume Nikki all over again, a game thats mostly fun because you are exploring this dream logic driven world and see what you find, its just that Mario 64's nature allows for more interactivity than Yume Nikki's RPG engine
It's amazing and i love seeing all the finds
You know what's weird is that I got an alternate ending without the need for red stars or the credits, and it spawned me in a room with Peach and cake. I guess every copy IS personalized!
Mate you were playing the Unabandoned build and used the ceiling method to access the plexus and found CHW where you death-warped to the post-credits area where the room you described can be found
Nice speedrun btw
@@Mordecai02 Nope! I even made a map as i played the game showing how I got there. I'd share if I could in a UA-cam comment
3:58 HOW? IT LEADS TO A JUMPSCARE?!
I'm built different
What happened is he entered the area without collecting any red stars, and they are what enable the jumpscares
Great video as always. keep up the hood work ❤
Honestly, by the way you describe feeling and orienting youself in this game it HEAVILY reminds me of Yume Nikki. There you visit weird worlds, and always need to find a way back to some places you wanna visit again. And feeling too - mystirious , unexplained world
I can really appreciate that the game doesn't really have spooky images or jump scares it's just unnerving. Cool vid though btw slaps hard
one of my favorite things is at the health meter will randomly change
the entire hud actually
I’ll never forget being high and playing this game for the first time
both the infinite stairs and the mansion music and ambience made me cry various times
Great video man, ive been super into b3313 recently and you managed to express so many of my thoughts on it perfectly + great editing!! Subbed :)
Well I was gonna say how your take on the series more or less IS the plot of Greenio's series but I see someone beat me to that. The only other thing I feel is worth pointing out is that Luigi drowned in that series too, and I still don't really get what that part of the series meant. But the drowned Luigi is another Greenio connection most likely.
am not sure if the wiki is right but it says the story is that mario and luigi are trying to escape the AI and the ending you saw is actually a piece of the unfinished ending
the wiki is not mad eby the devs iirc, like any other wiki really
Imo thats better used as one way to interpretate the story
If I'm not mistaken, The Shadow's segment isn't actually an homage to Slenderman. It's more likely an homage to Super Mario Dolor, a stealth-horror Mario fangame that features a similar antagonist with the same name, The Shadow.
2:16 (sees where the stained glass should be) well- (closes the video immediately because he don't want to get seizures)
5:52 got me dying bro
12:36 Ah, this place. This is Polygonal Chaos. Absolutely HATED navigating through here.
This game is all my N64 nightmares rolled into one game and I LOVE IT!!
Some part of it kinda remind me of the book House of Leaves
Fun fact:the silver stars is actually used in the ds version of super mario 64
2:56 its from the shoshinkai 95 beta
from what i can tell it's really similar to the greenio mario series. that was features a lot of the "every copy of mario 64 is personalized" and specifically features luigi drowning. it's based off a game dev who like fucked up or something and the game and it's characters are in pain because you keep playing. it's kinda vague (as good creepypastas should be) but one of the main similarities is that it has lots of weird beta like content and areas that don't exist within the game itself, like a whole extra floor to the castle. the BIGGEST thing is the core, which in the series gets destroyed but doesnt seem to fully free whatever is in pain within the game.
I think this game gives existential dread due to the nonlinear layout of the castle
This feels like the scoutigo mod for pizza tower (kinda)
Been playing this rom hack recently, and it is the biggest one I have ever seen. Billions of different areas
Spoiler Alert the AI Is actually peach
Fun fact: This game has multiple copies of the main castle, at least 3. You can tell by the number on the star of the very left door. One will play a weird tune and bring you to a different version of the same hub when you go through. There's tons of garbage here to throw you off, even with the star list in the start menu not showing shit. You can beat it in 70 stars, or more depending on what path you take. People believe that there's 150 stars in total, but nobody knows for sure. To quote simpleflips, "How many stars are there? It depends on your zodiac sign and the month of the year. Right now it's looking like a March Libra route."
I like to think of the "weird castle" as hell
boos Piano has left the chat...
Thing made me almost $*** my pants back in the 90's
8:09 big green rectangle is castle grounds so i could orient myself a little
Kinda gives me LSD Dream Emulator vibes a little bit
Mario after eating one too many mushrooms.
On a serious note this is probable one of the best rom hacks I've ever played, only one that come close to being my favorite is SM64: Decades Later (you should check it out if you haven't)
maybe i just haven’t played the rom hack enough but there’s area in this video i never saw before! makes me want to finish the game now 😢😢
small corrections plus add ons. 4: the reason destroying the core gets reset when opening up the game again, it's not canon. if i remember correctly. the core is made up in the main protagonists head. to make them feel better.
this game really is alot like sm64 classified. The ai wants you to end its suffering, just like Stanley.
I'd assume "The Show" is Space World where the beta was shown off.
10:31 cruelty squad type texture and sound design
The parallel universe glitch
This makes me want to get a PC and re live my youth I was 9 when Mario 64 came out it was a magical time… Mario 64 turok 64 the first men in black film lol all core memories in my life
The sentence I would love to use to describe this game would be "The Twilight Zone of Super Mario 64 romhacks", If you know what i mean with The Twilight Zone...
0:34 my computer bluescreened at this part, and i was watching on full screen
How did bro not get jumpscared in the black void at the start.
I found my copy at a garage sale held by a mysterious old man, that might have something to do with it
Ive been trying to find the music at 10:13 but I can't find it in the ost anywhere. Any idea what its called?
6:14 *snort* WHO WILL THEY FIND TO REPLACE YOU?
mr youtube video says ive NEVER played b3313......
That fucking pipe / wall flood area pissed me off so bad oh my god
i literally love this part 0:32
Calling the B3313 levels "ai generated" isn't too far off considering the un-lore personalization ai
I haven't seen half of the content shown here, damn. Should've played more of the mod.
Considering the title, I was expecting the video not to show so much of the game. I’m upset.
I have no mouth and i must scream, mario 64 version
When I first saw the video’s title I was like “why is he saying I shouldn’t play it?” Then when you explained your theory it clicked and I was like 😮
Holy heck youtube algorithm, are you really gonna let this masterpiece of a video fall behind garbage memes?
b3313 is one of my favorite games ever
two of my favorite areas are jolly roger coastline and tall tall treetops
10:36 Best weirdcore song:
Bro this is so limInAl, unCaNnY and SOOOo rETrOoooo!!!11one!
I still have dreams of going back and playing sm64 and finding a hidden castle room i didnt know existed. I feel like this romhack is literally taken from my dreams
I'm pretty sure a new version just released
it feels like a twilight zone episode
