The common thread that I see with Ridout, hot-mic and Iswaran pay is also about the public perception of the party members' sense of privilege and entitlement. This perception is something that, I think, the PM missed. Already many people feel that the party is increasingly less in touch with the average Singsporean. Just because the PM could allow Iswaran to draw $8500 per month, does not mean he should. That amount is more than what the average Singaporean make. Of course, Iswaran deserve to be treated innocent until proven guilty. He is not an average civil servant. I think the threshold of expectation is higher. After all, these ministers get much more pay based on the notion that it would deter corruption.

I completely disagree that we have to have a PM's permission for the CPIB to operate. I think the most trustworthy and most effective arrangement is the CPIB being completely independent. Like it or not, any scandal regarding politicians, especially those part of the ruling party, will sully the party's name as a whole, and there could be good reason for one to deny CPIB's investigation to protect the perceived integrity of the party.
By what is said by our Prime Minister, the president of Singapore should not and cannot be an ex member of the parliament so as to prevent biased or sentiment based decisions.
This is ridiculous ! His pay should be withheld until the investigation is over. It makes zero sense to still pay Iswaran when he has been arrested and out on bail !
Sir PM Lee, i will continue to vote for you just like 61% of other Singaporean. You need not have to explain anything, you can grant Iswaran full salary even if he was found guilty and serving jail term. No question raised from 61% of us 😊 Please do what you want with tax payer $$ ❤
Since S. Iswaran has being suspended from his work regardless of his ministerial post or member of parliament position, he SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN any single penny of his regular monthly salary or perks! The state SHOULD NOT EVEN PAY him 85cents! This $8,500 pay is tantamount to at least 5 junior workers’ monthly salaries, PLEASE DON’T FORGET THIS POINT!😮😮😮

Feels kind of sick to be in a political culture and country where there seemed to be More EMPATHY and SYMPATHY from the ruling party for the VERY rich earning less due to their indiscretions. While the basic salaries of the Singaporean Working Poor are DELIBERATELY made RIDICULOUSLY LOW to the point where any mere suggestions of minimum wage are simply DISMISSED as so called “populist”!
Had the CPIB conducted an investigation into the massive discounts given on the sale of luxury properties at Nassim Jade and Scotts 28, involving the Prime Minister, his father, and other family members? Only after the Lees got found out, their crafty plan of restitution was a simple act of kindness, donating their discounts to charity. 😊 So, the very initial acceptance of the offer, in most cases, would contravene the guidelines for ministers, especially those with very "high" moral standards like the Lees. 😊 Anyways, the audacious and irresistible discount offered to the Lees by HPL was through Ong Beng Seng, and one to get into the Lees's good books for favour. 🎉 Legally speaking, it is clearly evident that such an act to receive favour in the form of a massive discount before the soft launch of the development/s would construe misconduct and an equivalent to graft. Clear double standard or is the law meant to be flexible for those in government office, where the rule book is applied differently accordingly to social groups? 😅

He was not only under the CPIB probe.... he was ARRESTED and on bail !
having a poor governance can you be able to make judgement call when CPIB has a case to follow
Atleast wear your jacket and collar properly
He still gets pay???
Arrested for corruption and still being paid. . .🤔
8500 ?????????????????????????? $1500 can liao lah !
Guy has more money than 99% of Singaporeans and here he is pretending to be a hobo.
People want to dress comfortably also want criticise
Sure Looks like HOBO
Imagine if the accused absconded. Wow. It will be so sensational the story!!
Just like Ng Poh Too ex-PAP , who asconded to thailand and came back was forgiven because of old age.
Sure i would like to know where else in Singapore you can get retal at $0.20 per square foot.>>
Similar property in that area is going for $60,000 month how come they can get $20,000
Look like till now, he still clueless cpib investigation findings or he is hinting Iswaran will be cleared.😂
Time will tell, ownself serve ownself system, anything is possible😂
Sure clear after election huh ?
Iswaran is DONE For
Well thought out decision. Good information about how CPIB had functioned independently. Like u have emphasized, we need good people in this role and also at the govt. level. Perphas the govt. should explore how to build a more independent CPIB.
If u r not in the inner circle, once caught wind with the slightest crime. U will be ask to leave with immediate effect.
However not everyone got this benefit
...
After all, these ministers get much more pay based on the notion that it would deter corruption.
so 8500 is ceiling or floor?
How cpib found out had to be revealed. Who blew the whistle?
Minister Teh..... at that time , the Business Times was a Section in the Straits Times....about 6 months after Teh committed suicide, that Business Times reported that his Son was in China with US$600 MILLION to buy a Hotel...... WOW !!! US$600 MILLION !!!.... That article can now no longer be found ??? Does anyone else remember reading that article ???
I completely disagree that we have to have a PM's permission for the CPIB to operate. I think the most trustworthy and most effective arrangement is the CPIB being completely independent. Like it or not, any scandal regarding politicians, especially those part of the ruling party, will sully the party's name as a whole, and there could be good reason for one to deny CPIB's investigation to protect the perceived integrity of the party.
By what is said by our Prime Minister, the president of Singapore should not and cannot be an ex member of the parliament so as to prevent biased or sentiment based decisions.
So sad iswaran probably can only afford for beer hostess no more high class entertainment, not even KTV hostess 😢😢😂😂
No question raised from 61% of us 😊
Please do what you want with tax payer $$ ❤
Since S. Iswaran has being suspended from his work regardless of his ministerial post or member of parliament position, he SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN any single penny of his regular monthly salary or perks! The state SHOULD NOT EVEN PAY him 85cents! The $8,500 pay given to him comes from every single dollar and cent which are contributed taxpayers’ hard earned and sweat money! This $8,500 pay is tantamount to at least 5 junior workers’ monthly salaries, PLEASE DON’T FORGET THIS POINT!😮😮😮
2 sets of law!!
is that like a 90% paycut?
my pay only 2000. I no corruption one.😁
Is he saying now, pre-trail, that there's something there?
mm. CPIB should be reporting to the PEOPLE?
Well said by the Prime Minister. Minister Iswaran has not been charged. Is presumed innocent. We need to stop being persecutors like those in the crowd that chanted "crucify him, crucify him..." We have the Rule of Law. Let us folllow the Law.
pm speaks very well... very articulate ... good english
It’s taxpayers money! Why is he still paid salary?
CPIB pick up, no one told them, PM approved despite ongoing challenges on rideout and tcj. PM choose to protect the system that safeguard Singaporean over party reputation. Period.
CPIB suka suka arrest people ?
Come on he was not just assisting in the investigation !
He was arrested and is now out because he posted bail !
If he did not post bail, he would still be in prison, kids !
Don't you guys know anything ?
Is this a serious fault in SG education ? Make you lot good in only regurgitating facts !
It seemed so !
CPIB should NOT report to PM office. Where is the independence?
wonders what is the REAL truth behind truth? 😏
Absolute clownery
if you listened carefully what PM Lee said , yeah he believes iswaran is guilty
Had the CPIB conducted an investigation into the massive discounts given on the sale of luxury properties at Nassim Jade and Scotts 28, involving the Prime Minister, his father, and other family members?
Only after the Lees got found out, their crafty plan of restitution was a simple act of kindness, donating their discounts to charity. 😊
So, the very initial acceptance of the offer, in most cases, would contravene the guidelines for ministers, especially those with very "high" moral standards like the Lees. 😊
Anyways, the audacious and irresistible discount offered to the Lees by HPL was through Ong Beng Seng, and one to get into the Lees's good books for favour. 🎉
Legally speaking, it is clearly evident that such an act to receive favour in the form of a massive discount before the soft launch of the development/s would construe misconduct and an equivalent to graft.
Clear double standard or is the law meant to be flexible for those in government office, where the rule book is applied differently accordingly to social groups? 😅
His argument sounds fair and logical tbh.
no bad for a sit-at-home-do-nothing allowance, where to find?
Sir, if i may, i have a question to ask thru you. Lets say in countries other than Singapore, corruption is known if the wrong doer is caught. What happens to those who have never been caught?
Why is Edwin Tong very silent?
All salary should be suspended... and all his allowances stop. He is not working. This is our tax payers money. We are not an endless atm machine for the Mp. Pap need to stop over paying their mps. Reality bites.
Sir I sincerely hope u can summon mr eswaran to the court of 3 donkeys to clean his name
This is ridiculous to me...not justifiable at all
Who knew, the EAST COAST PLAN was actually the WEST COAST PLAN.
May be EAST COAST AND WEST COAST will combine GRC nex GE. 10 Mps a team.😇😇😇
Pap... is sinking liao.... take high pay still kenna investigated by CPIB for corruption. That's why we need oppos in ...
We can see language is very flexible allowing different views and interpretations😅 i wonder do laywers enjoy this property or attribute of language? Very lucrative work?😅
