    Ballistic tests are important to calculate penetration distance and give a common measure upon which to compare different projectiles to each other. I'm not particularly convinced that human shaped dummies are very predictive of effects on humans that have hair, skin, clothing, and the ability to move (i.e. they aren't dummies). But with that said, the lesson I take from this is don't be a dummy and just let someone shoot your head with a HDR or HDB. That would hurt badly.

    • @AirgunAlley
      @AirgunAlley  Рік тому +3

      Hahaha “don’t be a Dummy!” That indeed is always the best lesson. Absolutely my friend, you’re right - the variables are way too many to make this a 100% accurate test.
      But I guess it gives a good idea of what one or two shots can do, if well placed.
      I was surprised by the toughness of the ballistic gel and the “bone” structure… these things are really well made!

I think these guns are in the correct power range to make it a particularly interesting experiment. Plus nobody else on the internet has done that test with these guns.

    One small mistake, you said the bullets in the 68 cal mold were .45? That is NOT 9mm which is about .35"; the .45 is .10" larger.
    However, it does show that a .68 is not to be ignored. Nobody would want that in the face even at it's basic power level.
    Any bone fracture in the head or face will stop or un-exist anyone. Any shot in the eye socket that is strong enough will penetrate the skull.

    • @AirgunAlley
      @AirgunAlley  Рік тому

      Hello my friend! No what I said is “they’re like the 9mm…” basically this brand also makes the .50 cal version for the HDR 50, using 9mm bullets in 50 cal printed sabots - which I often show in my videos - so I was taking for granted everyone would understand… that’s my bad :) i

      I have spoken to guys who have been shot with both. They said getting shot with a firearm hurts less. More bleeding and damage, but less pain. A firearm projectile is designed to penatrate. The kinetic balls are designed to deliver all of their energy on the surface at impact, where the nerves are. Like the difference between stepping on a nail and smashing your foot with a hammer.

      Hi my friend! Very good questions and I hope we’re not going to jinx it with these comments.
      On the contrary of what it may appear, I’m actually a terrible handyman. I have tried opening these guns, with horrible results.
      This particular gun was modified for me from an airgun wizard/engineer/magician.
      He was among the first people to modify this gun (and the HDB68) and did an amazing job.
      I used to promote his services in my videos, til one day he got caught up with a ton of issues, and basically fell off the face of the earth.
      So, I apologize for the long unrelated answer, but that’s how my HDR 68 was modified. Now if I do blow something, I’m in deep trouble.
      As for maintenance I always put silicon oil on the seals, to keep them from drying up. A trick I learned from Rune Rebel’s channel - which by the way is also a great source for answers to your question.
      Wish I could’ve been more helpful, my friend! And thank you
