That Lewis and Clark gun was made by the Dutch and had tech way ahead of its time. Like Schrader valves, before Schrader. The air tank was cast iron but drenched in led making it impermeable. I held that gun owned now by Dr. Beeman - of the same BB gun maker. It was incredibly well made.

It's unfortunate that better self-defense options are pretty limited outside the US. Looks like I'd go with those lightweight aluminum rounds if I had to use one of these, as it was able to damage the skull which was surprising. Only real issue with this is that you essentially have to be hitting headshots to do any significant damage. Fortunately, firearms are legal in most of the States, but again this seems decent for those in areas where that's not possible.

@@coldspring22 Shotguns are great for that specific reason actually. If the verbal warning doesn't work, first round is a beanbag, if that isn't enough the next one's bird shot which probably won't kill the bad guy but will hurt real bad, and then if they still haven't given up it's buckshot for the rest of the tube. I'm surprised the arrows went that deep from 20 feet away. Any closer and it's a through and through, and that's even more fatal. Nothing stuck in to help stop bleeding. Might be a good "last line of defense" option, but I wouldn't ever want to use it as a primary, for several reasons. Presumably only going to get one shot, and it's likely that one shot will be fatal if it lands. If you want fatal, there are a lot of better options.
Aluminum round balls seem to hit pretty good for a less lethal option, tho.

Air guns are worth considering especially in places like where I live where it's unreasonably hard and expensive to get the permit for a firearm.
Vast majority of air guns sold for home defense are rebranded paintball markers but that has an upside- you can tune them up quite a bit.
From factory most of these markers are well bellow 17 joules but if you tune them right you can go to 60 or even over 80 joules and that is enough to be seriously painful.
It's still very much non lethal and not a replacement for a firearm, but an option worth considering for people who can't get a firearm for one reason or another.
Plus shooting them is a really fun pass time and .43 cal balls are a LOT cheaper than actual bullets and you can have a full auto marker for a bit extra fun on top :)

Regardless of how deadly each different round was, the pain inflicted from each would be enough to deter any would be home invasionist from progressing past the point of contact with the home owner which is the main outcome to begin with.
Saying that though, you can certainly feel the pain the dummy would be in after taking each shot so the idea of using a Air Pistol for home defence instead of a firearm certainly has its merits and would make for a ideal option for anyone with children who are worried about the possibilities of accidents especially with the variety of loads shown here.

My city ordinance allows pellet guns being fired in town as long as it's on your own property, so I purchased a Crosman Nitro Venom .177 break-barrel for controlling critters in my garden. It's surprisingly powerful and while sighting in the scope, it was actually going through ¾" OSB. The problem is it has the wood stock and with the scope it looks too real at a glance. That, and with a lighter pellet, it sounds like a .22 rimfire going off and it sometimes attracts unwanted attention. Pellet guns are leaps and bounds more advanced than what I grew up with. But as far as home defense goes with a CO2 pistol, you had best make damn sure the first shot is true and accurate because you'll likely end up getting yourself killed by a highly pissed off intruder. For home invasion defense, I wouldn't go with ANYTHING LESS than a short barreled .410 shotgun.

Probably not a bad thing, you know how most of the uk feels about this shizzle (none of them aware you can’t so much as hit a burglar with a rolled up newspaper without risking a custodial sentence here) 🤔
Pretty sure the darts could get you locked up here on their own. That said, we have zero laws about owning a crossbow or a compound bow. You just have to be 18.

@@AirgunAlley It's similar here in the Netherlands, though we still can have firearms for sport shooting (licenses are heavily controlled though). Guns like these are outlawed not because they are dangerous, but because they look too much like the real thing. Same for Airsoft weapons, though recently these have been made somewhat legal as long as you only use them at a closed Airsoft range.
For self defense, there are some good crossbows these days. The Steambow Stinger 2 performs pretty well, especially with the 90 pound limbs. 6 shots in under 10 seconds and fast reloading with 6 bolts in a speedloader clip. At 10 meters, that thing penetrates half a bolt-length into an archery target (made of super hard foam). 100% legal though not for self defense... the crappy part is that these days, home invaders aren't just after your stuff, they are after YOU: they want pin codes and bank passwords, and they'll get them one way or the other. Running / hiding (what the law mandates) is not really an option anymore.

Although I have heard it's pretty much war on legit firearm owners in the UK lately, and I seem to remember that guy who shot a couple of burglars (repeat customers) back in the '90's got a fairly hefty stint, although it didn't help his case that he basically hid in waiting (one can almost picture the guy stroking his weapon, NO innuendo intended!) Over here, a guy who was sent down in virtually identical circumstances was let out after a few months due to the public outcry, though they would never SAY that, obviously!

I don't think the drug dealers in the alley behind my house cared that they got shot with an air gun, but they ran away really quick and haven't come back.

Firearms shoot bullets, Airguns shoot pellets and slugs. They're both guns, they're both weapons, they're both deadly. A weapon is just that, A weapon..

The BYRNA gun is really good too. Pump a load of pepper spray balls at the intruder (like paint balls but with pepper spray) . It hurts too, nice bruising and while hurting the intruder you can make them cough and cry like a little high school girl that can't get her way.

Thanks man could I suggest you doing a video shooting that same dummy head with the .50 cal Dragon Claw from a 50 meter distance and maybe the air Saber please 🙏 just to see penetration and damage from a distance? Hahahah you want me completely demonetized eh? 😂 that may be a bit too splattery for our judges at UA-cam hahaha but boy that is a great idea!
For now, I’ll shoot what’s left of it with my HDR 68 30joules, then it’ll probably be the end of this bust (they only have 2 weeks of life once you unbox them).
This said, my dear Mogamed, I do plan to get more ballistic toys (maybe not in the human form) to blast with my pcp rifles :) yours is a great idea and I appreciate your request!
And thank you as always my friend!!

I really like HDR 50. I often shoot with this leisure weapon, even if it can be used in an emergency for defense. In France the 9 mm Parabellum or the calibers of the shoulder weapons is prison. The legislation is not in favor of the victims.

    • @AirgunAlley
      @AirgunAlley  Рік тому

Hehe mon ami! I know. But at least, if I’m not mistaking, in France you have one of the highest “joules” limits for paintball markers 🤔
Anyway, did you see what the HDR 68 did to the same ballistic dummy? Salut monsieur Gaston

I am looking to get an hdr 50. Is it necessary to upgrade a 7.5j version to an 11j value to achieve max power or can you modify the 7.5 version to achieve the same outcome. Trying to decide which platform to purchase and modify to get a 25-30j total outcome and it appears the 7.5 is more readily available for purchase however if its worth the upfront money I can go with the 11j version vs buying a 7.5 and changing and then buying a 11j value. Great vid and I look forward to your advice.

How far back were you set for the back? The harder the impact.
I have a 22 pellet rifle that will put pallet slugs through a piece of plywood.
They're huge heavy. Travel a lot slower than alloy pellets but they are tack drivers
