    Excellent video! i use a 44% solution, that works for me about every two weeks or so, but, great info about the blue light, I think it's kinda of a scam. Thank you for the comparison.

    You claim you’re not a scientist and yet you’re making scientific evaluations, wait no you’re not you’re just giving an opinion.

      Well, I’m a dental hygienist who has training specifically in dental products and procedures so..there’s that. Not scientific evaluations; professional opinion. I mean by all means grab an LED whitening kit and judge the results for yourself. Just trying to help people make an informed decision.

    How long should you leave a blue light on your teeth and how often should you use it. should you use them.

      Sooo..not all blue lights are created equal. Most over the counter stuff is not effective. Either way you should follow instructions on the manual of what you purchased. I don’t use an over the counter blue light when whitening. I don’t actually whiten at all at this point, but when I did, my go-to has been whitening strips by Crest.

    Of course, $100 dollars is stronger than $10, right? :)

      I feel like there’s a bell curve to that equation haha. It’s not always the case, and I wish there was a more transparent way of finding out the quality of a product than basing it off the price tag, but generally a more expensive product is higher quality. Not always 😅

    The stronger stuff isn't sold to the public because they don't want you to be able to do it at home. They want job security.

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  2 місяці тому +2

      There is also an element of safety. The stronger stuff can mess your mouth up if you don’t know what you’re doing, which is why you have to go through a professional. It’s the same for renting certain heavy equipment or staining products for flooring (recently discovered this with our own remodel haha) they will only sell to professionally trained/certified people who know what they’re doing because the stuff they’re using is potentially dangerous.

    I noticed a major difference with the blue light. I use Crest Whitening Strips.

    Great vid! 😊 can you use whitening toothpaste etc on a tooth with metal filling? I notice the tooth has a grey hue to it, so wondering can whitening make tooth look white again? 😊

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  Рік тому +3

      Hm, the grey discoloration can be internal from the metal filling, whitening toothpaste only takes of external stain so no it wouldn’t really help making the tooth look white.

    • @ruddz1660
      @ruddz1660 Рік тому

      @@askahygienist yes the metal filling is the cause, but my dentist won’t change it because it’s too deep. Would bleaching be an option? Or what do you Recommend?

    • @saniainez
      @saniainez Рік тому +1

      @@ruddz1660 as she said, it's INTERNAL, caused by something IN your teeth (which is the metal filling).
      Whitening routine can only remove EXTERNAL stains.

      @@ruddz1660 no. It won’t work at all. It’s the black/metal, that is giving the tooth the grey appearance. The tooth isn’t grey at all. Basically the tooth is as if it’s a little transparent, hence why the black is coming through the tooth. So no matter what you do, aside from having the metal replaced, nothing will work. My husband had a front tooth knocked out when playing football, and the dentist used a black (literally black) type of “cement” to put it back in. You see the black come through at the gum line and top and edges of the tooth. It makes it look like it’s starting to decay, but it’s not. Why the hell a dentist would use black on white teeth is beyond me!! Especially for front teeth. The back of his entire tooth is covered in the “cement”. If he has a good laugh and puts his head back, you see it so clearly. Not only that, they didn’t apply it properly and left a little lip or gap at the back near his gums. It’s a very small gap across the top of the entire tooth BUT because it’s so small, a toothbrush can NOT clean it. Food build up get stuck and nothing he does at home can clean it. We found out because I made him go to the dentist about an unusual odour that was so strong, I could smell it from a distance. She found the stuff up and said the only way to clean it is with regular professional cleanings. Even so, the build up happens within days and the smell comes back. It’s very costly to have it fixed. So he relies on chewing gum for work.. it happened when he was a teen. If that was my child and they tried to use black, I would have refused. I have severe sensory issues, and I feel bad when I have to ask him to brush and floss. It’s not his fault.
