- I recruited my dentist husband Dr. Grant to help explain the best (& worst) ways to whiten your teeth at home! We explain the pros and cons of charcoal toothpaste, LED whitening lights, whitening pens, whitening toothpaste, Crest White Strips, & prescription whitening trays & gel. I also explain how I whiten my super sensitive teeth without any pain or nerve zingers. What's your favorite way to whiten your teeth at home?
Even though Grant is a dentist, he is not your dentist. Please consult your dentist or healthcare provider before starting a new routine or product.

1. no charcoal toothpaste.
2. No teeth whitening pens, maybe? No evidence to support that claim.
3. No tooth whitening lights, they are cheap and less powerful than what you get at the dentistss.
4. Whitening toothpaste isn’t ideal because it is too abrasive and not safe long term.
5. Crest white strips work well, the more expensive the better. Follow directions.
6. Opal essence from your dentist, works well but it is prescription and a little more expensive.
Thanks

Thank you so much! 😊
I have been told not to brush after drinking coffee. Reason being, coffee is acidic and momentarily softens your teeth. If you brush immediately after you could be stripping away your enamel and making your teeth even more porous. Instead brush beforehand and drink water with coffee to wash the coffee away from your teeth.

Same here! Like thanks guys for saving me from wasting 50 bucks! Lol
I'm so glad we could help, & thanks so much for watching Amy ☺️
Today was the first time I saw a dentist in well over 10 years. Pretty much half of my life (I’m 21) I’ve suffered with my teeth rotting away, falling out, and breakage. My dentist did my fronts first, and next check up (next month) I get morals fixed. I SOBBED in relief and excitement! I got so many cavities filled. He did a lot of drilling and cleaning. My molars are next.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH, AND YOURSELF. Seriously I didn’t brush my teeth, and my oral health had gotten so bad I couldn’t even brush them my teeth would hurt as she described that “zing” and my gums would bleed all over.
Now that I have fillings, and possibly implants in the future, I can’t stop smiling.
We did not get any compensation for this commercial.
I don’t get it. Did you just never brush your teeth? No offense but your breathe must’ve been devastating.
@@HollerAtcherBoi my parents never entirely cared about making sure I would brush my teeth every day, so when I was younger I just never really did it.
As I got older my depression was settling in and I eventually never had the energy to do it. So pretty much I rarely would brush or even floss.
Now that my depression has lifted some I have the energy to take proper care of myself. And none taken! It’s understandable that you’d think that! My breath probably was smelling horrible. I brushes when I could but most of the time I just rinsed with mouth wash when my mouth felt gross and went on my way.
@@SmolBean98 I'm so glad that you got help. I know what it's like to not have energy to do anything when your not mentally there. I hope you continue to take care of yourself. Much love 😊
I sympathize. My mom's parents neglected her. She had s roof over her head and bathed , that was the extent. Didn't care of she was sick, fed..anything. as she got older the lack of nutrition and care wreaked havoc. About your age is when she went to the dentist and paid for all the work herself.

Dental school is brutal. You’re poor for what feels like forever. While you see a smiling couple here in front of you now, he endured horrific times in his life and it’s now well deserved. My father was a dentist and my mother sacrificed with him. Much love.
My father too. He just retired after nearly 50 years. Tough gig!

Amazing video, love the tips. Grant looks so charming, kind and compassionate. He makes me forget the usual fear that going to a dentist implies. As for me I prefer the last tip. I Will rather go to a dentist and let him conduct my teeth whitening process. My mouth is not a lab where I will try various chemicals to see what works lol. Thanks for the video.

Loved the video Sara!💞 Definitely have new ideas of how to keep my teeth white. I haven’t asked my dentist if I could use the crest white strips with my braces I’ll have to ask him next time I see him. But I cannot wait to try the strips once I get my braces off!😁
So I asked Grant about how to whiten with braces & he said that you have to be careful not to whiten too much because when you take the brackets off later your teeth can be dark underneath those because the whitening didn't reach that part of the tooth so it's better to wait until after the braces come off. Definitely ask your own dentist who knows you best, but that's what he told me lol Your teeth are going to be GORG when you get them off I'm so excited for you Karlee 😻💗

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing! Honestly I was using a whitening toothpaste too until Grant told me it wasn't the best option & I literally share a bathroom with a dentist 🤪 so don't feel bad! Please come back & let me know how the Crest white strips work for you 💗
how did it worked out? 1 year later
I think there must be different charcoal types cuz I use a charcoal powder. It’s very fine...and not gritty or abrasive at all! AND IT WORKS!! 😁
Thank you pretty people! I did Opalescence years ago, and it made my teeth soooo sensitive and I started getting cavities as an adult and had never had any in my life prior to that.

Omg I love this, I was definitely using charcoal 😨
It's ok! I just wouldn't use it going forward. Honestly the white strips work sooo well you should try those instead 😊 Thanks Elle! 💗

Solid advice, definitely not a channel that I’ve ended up on. Honestly though when I want too know about certain things, especially comparing products, it’s always channels like yours that give the best advice. So I’m not a subscriber because topics like this aren’t in my main viewing preferences, but I really appreciate all you guys taking the time too make good, informative content. Now when I go too buy whitening strips I’ll spend the $40-50 and get results instead of wasting it on the equate brand lol. Big thumbs up and I’ll subscribe because you guys kept me from wasting money lol
I used to swear by all crest products and after years my teeth became extremely sensitive. Crest strips were my go to as well but one day I put them on and immediately got that shock of pain. My teeth have gotten better with sensodyne and 2 new mouth washes but they aren’t as white. I tried charcoal but just a little in the cracks and it did work a little but I am afraid of the abrasives. I might try sensitive strips hopefully they work so I don’t waste money.
Agree! Crest are the best! I used them years ago and they made my teeth super white. People actually complimented me on my teeth haha
So lovely, informative and professional.

This was really helpful, I’ve been struggling with stained teeth for a while so I can’t wait to try this

I felt like I was slapped through the whole video! Thank you
You should have your husband make you bleaching trays from your current molds and then use desensitizing gel in the trays such as UltraEZ, 3% potassium nitrate, .11% fluoride to reduce your sensitivity as your postules are exposed during the whitening process forming sensitivity within the roots.
CREST - I was so worried these were going to be on the bad list, haha! You can't get them here in the UK - next time I'm in the US I'm definitely looking into getting some. Feel so lucky to hear from an actual professional on this stuff - good job, Grant!
That is such a bummer you can't buy them in the UK! That seems so weird to me. Haha I kind of forced Grant into filming with me 😅 I told him that it's not going to be nearly as legitimate coming from me as it is from an actual dentist! I'm glad you agree ☺️💗
this one s helpful! thank you

I’m not even surprised the Crest strips is their favorite because it actually works. Michael Jackson used Crest toothpaste with the whitening gel and his smile was one of the most gorgeous smiles I’ve ever seen. No need for expensive kits.

Just finished the equate strips and have started the crest ones & your description was spot on. My teeth are already kind of sensitive but they were THROBBING with the equate ones. Crest so far has no issues with sensitivity and also they definitely stay on way better!
Just use baking soda on your toothbrush after brushing a few times a week.
I used crest strips on my teeth for 4 weeks once and it took the enamel off my teeth! 😭
My teeth became white but went from shiny to dry and matte. It took YEARS for my teeth to recover. Now I use baking soda and it's so cheap yet quick, safe and effective. Several dentists recommend it as a safe, cheap way to whiten at home.
@@savannahrhodes7259 how many times a week do you recommend brushing with baking soda? because i don’t really trust using crest whitening strips

I've gotten compliments on my teeth using baking soda. That's when I share the "secret".
You'll notice whiter teeth with every use.
After brushing your teeth with toothpaste, dip your toothbrush (with remaining toothpaste residue) in baking soda and brush the visible fronts of teeth. Then spit and rinse.

thank you so much for this video I watched it a month back and have had amazing results whitening my teeth I am unable to use the White strips every day but every other day has really worked for me the process is taking a little bit longer but nonetheless it’s working I have implemented the Sensodyne which really helps with zinging in addition got the crest gum detox toothpaste I do plan on getting my next dental check up next month so I will probably ask about the opal escence and see what my hygienist says
I feel like you summarized the video pretty well (I did watch it) with product advice for sensitive teeth. I appreciate that! I’ve actually had a tooth appear to crack the enamel? It’s been 10yrs since I’ve tried strips and I’m sure they’ve improved since then.
what would you guys say about brushing with baking soda? is it effective or damaging to the teeth?
I think the best thing is to brush your teeth 2s a day and I used colgate for 2 months and my teeth is soo white and my dentist said I have the healthiest teeth out of all her patients

I was reading about those strips possibly causing tooth weakness in the long term
Yea I read that too but I think that was is only if you used them too often
Its better to just put them on the visible front portion of the teeth, not too close to the gums and not the underside where you chew or behind the teeth cause that would cause faster tooth sensitivity. I used crest strips b4 and they definitely whiten teeth faster fs.

I just got my teeth whitening kit off amazon. Its called Ms. Dear but its actually the exact same kit as a lot of other ones. I noticed an immediate improvement after 1st use. I've been using the Smile Direct club whitening gel with the blue led light mouth guard. It's been 4 days, and I've already seen HUGE improvements that whitening toothpaste has failed to show in 2 years. It's super easy, and the gel last a lot longer than they say.
I don’t hv my light but you can use without it
Yea and what’s the cost? I just looked it up and for a single payment it’s $2570. Gtf outta here
Have you noticed if it increases sensitivity?
You did not mention peroxide, which is the base for most whitening products. Years ago a dentist told me to swish now and then with peroxide. Can't tell you how often when I go to the dentist they ask if I've used their whitening product. You can get a bottle of peroxide for pennies!
any kind of hydrogen peroxide? also, should I rinse it with water afterward or just spit it out?
@@paolagonzalez4017 Hydrogen peroxide from the Walmart (drug store). It's usually around .88. Just swish a few time/mo. It's easy if you keep it in the shower :)

Me: bout to make a comment about being a smoker.
Y'all: calling me out immediately 😐😐😐
I felt this im a smoker too
What about baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mixture?
That works the same way as the charcoal. Its an acid so its going to rip through your enamel and just make your teeth more sensitive. So yeah you might have slighly whiter teeth but good luck drinking any cold or hot beverages.
I hear it’s very bad for your teeth
just use the hydrogen peroxide gel... you don't need the baking soda XD or use carbamide peroxide, it's more effective and less abrasive. these are the components that you would get at the dental office, so if you can get your hands on these, it should help :D
• Hydrogen peroxide is a key ingredient in whitening strips.
• Hydrogen peroxide is a weak acid.
• The enamel weakens when the mouth is at an abnormally high or low pH (usually too acidic), so that's the logic behind adding baking soda, a base.
• Hydrogen peroxide gel does whiten teeth based off the studies so far.
• The danger of hydrogen peroxide products is not only in how they may damage the teeth, but also the impact they have on the gums.
• If you want to whiten your teeth, _keep hydrogen peroxide products away from the gums._ Carefully apply the mixture, gel, or other whitening agent to only the teeth and remember to hold off on using these if you find that your teeth feel weak or uncomfortable with the treatment.
The end.
Don't listen to me.
