  • Morakniv proudly presents the greatest collection of outdoor knives in decades.
Introducing The Ash Wood Outdoor Collection with a new generation of four different beautiful handmade solid, full tang knives. Made by our skilled craftsmen and women at the knife factory in Mora, Sweden.
With the new knives, we look centuries back in time and note that the story of our dear Morakniv begins long before our company first saw the light of day.
Morakniv Finn, Wit, Lok, and Rombo all represent some of the finest well-known knife manufacturers there ever was in the area around Mora.
The knives in this collection reflect how they originally made knives that would last a lifetime. You see, all handles are made of bright ash wood, have full tang black knife blades of recycled Swedish stainless steel, and are secured in protective black vegetable tanned leather sheaths.
Making the new collection entirely out of natural materials.
Never did we look for the easiest path, the cheapest materials, or the fastest process. Because we know, just like you, that quality takes no shortcuts.

do you mean hitting the handle part when batoning? I dont know, but I never hit the handle of my knife when batoning..on the contrary, I think it is much less comfortable to hold the handle with a protruding tang while batoning as the protruding tang might create a hotspot without gloves..

    • @chrisvonpimpenstein

@@hb.canada the tang sticks out because it is cheaper automated manufacturing, not because of batoning. You baton on the blade, not the handle. To get the tang flush with the handle requires hand finishing and that costs money/labor. That's why they didn't do it.

"Never did we look for the easiest path, the cheapest materials, or the fastest process"????
How can you make that claim when you're literally a mass production company churning out thousands of knives using very cheap (average) steels with plastic handles & sheaths? & this new line is still using the same cheap 12C27 steel as a €15 Mora.
Seems strange that Mora keeps spamming the exact same copy & paste replies as well. Why not put out a statement, or at least address the overwhelmingly negative feedback?
Seems like virtually everyone that's happy with the pricing are Mora affiliates/shills who stand to make money off them.

  • @jmknives
    @jmknives Рік тому +14

First I would like to say that I like Mora Knives very very much.
But: The prices... how this prices are composed? Is it because of this recycled steel? Hardly likely.
    A Mora 511 costs around €6.00 - €7.00.
In the future, "Ash Wood" could also be a term for how to get money out of people's pockets.
Mora will also turn the price screw on the standard models.
And there is probably another very simple market analysis by Morakniv... let's assume that 2 - 3% of 100% potentially interested buyers cannot resist.
These 2 - 3% would be enough for Mora to be successful with this series.
In addition, there will certainly be discounts on the Ash Wood series quickly. For example, instead of 200.00 "only" 170.00 €. Many fans will buy... and Mora rubs his hands because there is still more than enough profit to be made.
    Market economy can be cruel.

I'm so disappointed in the direction this company is headed. I'm sure these are good knives but there are many vastly superior knives at this price point. When you build things that last a lifetime "recycled steel" is an unnecessary gimmick to attract more gullible customers. Using sly marketing to sell an average knife at premium prices is a betrayal on your hard won reputation as a sensible and reliable company.

    Dear friends and family,
Today, we gather to honor the memory of Morakniv, who has passed away from the terrible and sneaky disease called marketing greed. We come together to celebrate his life and the impact he had on all of us.
Morakniv was a manufacturer who during all his life made it his mission to bring quality but affordable knives to the masses. He was always eager to help others and had a kind heart that touched the lives of many. He was so strong that even the far eastern land that makes everything and cheats on everything, could not beat him. It's a shame that his demise came from the inside, from this organ called marketing department.
Although we are saddened by Morakniv's passing, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the memories that we hold dear, and the impact that he had on our lives will never be forgotten.
Morakniv, you were a gift to us all, and we are grateful for the time we had with you. Your spirit will continue to live on in our hearts, and we will always remember the joy and love that you brought into our lives.
Rest in peace, Morakniv. You will be sharply missed.

Well, I know that handwork comes at a price. I advocated your new knives in many less than agreeable discussions. I own a great many Moras and use them hard. I have a Garberg black carbon, a Kansbol, a Bushcraft Triflex, several Companions, Basics and Robusts, several vintage classics, the whole woodworking lineup and love them all to bits. Of course I do. And at one point I even worked for Siljan, and it was fun and I am convinced that Moras are the best Bushcraft knives you can get. You can buy other knives altright, and fact is, I have and still do, but if you want performance, resilience and endurance for real woodworking, I will always recommend Moras, period. I am more loyal to your brand than you can possibly imagine. And while I understand the price tag and the handwork involved, and while 12C27 is a pretty decent steel, so is the 14C28N on the Garberg. It comes at an OEM price per length that is only marginally more expensive as the 12C27 and can deliver a lot more performance. This is the first question I have. It is also recycled steel, if you so will. The second is that you shortened the tang on the classics. This decreases production cost, but also only marginally while decreasing the iconic strength of these knives. If this development is in line with your choice of steel ,that is not pretty and does not suit you well, and I am really, really sorry to say that, because I am really and emotionally connected to the awesome people working for you, and the otherwise amazing products you offer. If you would change the steel to 14C28N orUHB-c carbonsteel or both, you might have a better standing. You could also grind down the tang a bit to maybe injection-mold the coconut fibre- handle material around it you use on the Light My Fire model you produce. It would also carry a message of sustainability, be extremely durable and weatherproof while dramatically cutting down on production prices. As is, you do not do yourself and your marketing Image a favor, this much I have to give the critics proof of point. But you can change this, with little cost (as far as I am competent to guess). I really hope this doesn't come across in a wrong way, just trying to be helpful. But I also owe you guys to be sincere. Lots of respect, and I hope you can sort it out!

Cheap steel, a basic common wood and from what I can tell you don't even use full grain leather, it's inferior cheap genuine leather. You're trying to fool your customers with marketing jargon and a large portion of you LOYAL customers feel very very let down, I really hope you can see this and the longer term impact on the reputation of your brand. Here’s my question. Rather than putting these knives on at INSANELY higher prices than your previous models, while they’re made out of *RECYCLED MYSTERY STEEL,* why don’t you just take your most highly praised and sung models - like the Garberg and the Kansbol - and give them an optional *SUPER STEEL UPGRADE? 😃😃😃*
You have any idea how many people would come SPRINTING to snag a Mora Garberg and/or Kansbol in CPM Magnacut? Best thing about steels like Magnacut is that you also don’t have to put coatings on the blades to protect them from corrosion, cause Magnacut is already highly corrosion resistant. Like, come on, Mora. People LOVE those knives (the Garberg and the Kansbol,) and love the way those handles feel. Why ruin a good thing and attempt to pawn off recycled mystery steel on your consumer base, while pricing it like its super steel? Not when you’ve literally hit a SLAM DUNK with the designs of the Garberg and Kansbol and you can now make them even better (just as long as you heat-cycle/-treat the steel well.)

Although as people have said the price is a bit much, however I can think of many "custom" knives from other companies with a similar price. Well, I have to say you could have marketed this line quite a lot better and be more transparent with this product; It would still be very significantly overpriced, specially if the steel is the same as in the companion stainless.
Don't mistake me, those knives are gorgeous and being full tang and having wooden scales is a huge selling point, but come on guys, the companion line and similarly priced stainless knives are good quality-price. They are inexpensive and a superb quality for that, but these are all the price, but it's not balanced by the quality, boss. Ash is not a particularly pretty wood even if quite tough, but this entry level steel is THE slap in the face to the customer. It doesn't matter it's recycled; that's the same quality and a good practice to reduce pollution, props for that, but nothing in this world justifies that price tag even if the production had more hands on it than on the usual injection molded handle knives. Please don't go that way folks
