I can post replies not comments. I am not into records because of what is involved yet appreciate them and it is great that so many places are seeing a comeback for people to enjoy!
Very cool ! I would come out of there with 20-30 records as well, and a bunch of 45's especially since folks weren't digging through there very much..🙂
8:00 If I had attended that same Plaid Room sale or a similar warehouse sale of 10,000 records, I'd probably focus on LP records first while honing in on specific genres I like (or working from one corner to the last) and then if I had time, I'd tackle 45s which, as much as I enjoy them, they truly are the most exhausting and tedious of all to sort through when in so many cases, one relies on having to scrutinize the record labels to pick out individual songs or artists compared to LPs that offer cool covers to draw the eye. Either way, that sale and variety of records looked amazing! :)
I managed to be there on the 1st day of their 1st warehouse sale, it was so hot & humid but had a really great time! I just randomly picked boxes to go through and found some cool stuff. My favorite find/gamble was Little Saints’ album Slapping Houses, something I probably never would have come across otherwise.
Too much fun ! 😊 I still find great records thrifting.. I'm pretty locked into my region. knowing folks around town, and some that call me when records are in ! What a warehouse, and enjoy your 17 LPs and 45's ! Cheers from Nevada
And we're going back one more time next march. This time I will hit up a smaller shop called Reco Fan in Ueno, Tokyo as I only have a few hours to visit a record shop this time around. Thanks for checking my channel out !
This is the ticket dude! Great adventure, thanks so much for making it into a video!! Whew. For me man, in a place like that, knowing I couldn’t see everything in one day and only had one day to see it, my first aim would be genre only, and first genre in a place like this, I have to see the classic rock, what late 60s through 70s and even rare 80s rock albums they have, then after that, I’m hoping they have a specific post punk cold wave new wave goth 80s fringe section
I would have been in heaven - as an EX-DJ myself - thanks for the video - I'm in NJ - that would be a great trip to check out! New to your channel!!! Awesome finds!
I'd go to a warehouse sale offering 10,000 records in a heartbeat because it's all part of the thrill of the hunt. It's a daunting quest to sift through so many records, but it's a great way to pass the time as well as to discover some real gems. :)
@@OldGuyHifi I wish I could but my November is shot with a big event at work happening right before the holiday break so things will be crazy! I might try to make the one in April?
I don't have the patience to dig through junk anymore and from what i saw here thats what it is. After digging through say 5 to 10 boxes i would have went home. 😊 I find you end up buying stuff you don't really want just because its cheap. Looking at all those 45s just gives me a headache.
I have a cool nearby shop that does 20 records for $15. Usually I get VG++ for that. But it takes a lot of work on my knees for hours. And not all, but many need deep cleaning.
@@ForeverAnalog Yes, It's mostly b list stuff from the 70's and 80's, or someone big who does a solo lp like Rodger Hodson, etc. Many are in mint condish which is the corker and all analog sound production before records were digitized. But it's records I never had time or money for so I enjoy a whole new listening experience.
2:59 wait…stop…”Burning Love”….I was after this one, a while back. A 45 from eBay…two live via satellite. All kind of flat. Then, finally…this version…from a little antique store- between Buffalo and Rochester, NY. About as clean as it gets, I’m thinking. Anyway I had to seek you out tonight…Oh exalted Analog Guru. The old BX-300 just grabbed ahold of another tape. It’s got one more strike…then the hunt for a JVC direct drive begins. Of anyone…. I know you’ve been there. Keep being awesome. Content, from me, coming soon…🍻
This would definitely be too overwhelming for me to handle. My game plan would be, If I was allowed to go back for another three hours, then it would definitely lower my anxiety level. Remembering the sections that I've looked through is the key. Thanks for sharing this incredible crate dig.
I saw two there that caught my eye, have one and the other one was lent out back in 1969 to a friend and was never returned, which was “Crown of Creation”.. Jefferson Airplane ( I still can’t believe I’ve never replaced it to this day. ) and the other LP that I saw there was “Live! In the Air Age” ..Be Bop Deluxe 🎶
I would probably bounce around. I normally do that pretty much while shopping regularly for things. Often seeing one thing will make me think of something else that I have to check on immediately.
I went to a guys house in Indiana he had almost 20,000 lps in his garage 10,000 at a flea market where he had a booth and 10,000 at an abandoned home in the basement.I bought 300 from him.He unfortunately passed away in 2019.
Were these records not in a particular order of era or genre or alphabetical to help navigate the search for those gems? It looks a fascinating place to go crate digging. If only we could have warehouse sales like that here in the UK.
For every record I own purchased from thrift stores (over 2,000 used records, give or take, which I'm not saying to be boastful since it's kind of horrifying to me. Haha!), I had to sift through 200 to 500 records to find them in great, playable, and mostly scratch-free condition. That means over the past 30 years or so, I had to sift through between 400,000 and 1 million records. Oh, brother! Still, I wouldn't have had it any other way. :)
At first I thought go for the LPs as they're easier to see (picture sleeves) etc. But then I considered your comment about other buyers cherry picking the LPs before your visit. So perhaps forget the LPs and focus on the 45s. You're certainly more likely to find an overlooked 45 in a charity shop (thrift store) than an album. People have got much more canny over records since COVID.
$3 for a record is kind of high for this type of sell. It would take ages to finish up the stocks. It should be marked $1 (as a dollar box sale) and people will tend obsessively buying anything for the sake of a dollar.
Both - I fund my personal buying with picking up items to resell if I can find them. I have a booth in an antique mall and also set up at record shows.
Thanks again to Plaid Room for letting me shop and make this video!
